Only 1 defender: defensively weak and not much goals

In my save with Pogon from Poland, there were only 2 centre backs in the squad when I started. Therefore, I decided to set up a tactic with just 1 central defender. We create enough chances, but we have much difficulties with scoring them. On the other hand, defensively isn't it going well too. I can accept a few goals against because I know only 1 defender will make me weaker in the back, but I'm sure we can do better there. However, I don't know how. Anyone who can help me? Thanks a lot!

Not sure you can be helped with that formation to be fair, no one plays with only one central defender.

why don’t you retrain someone to play centre half if you can’t sign anyone? Surely someone must have defensive attributes, they don’t need to natural in the position to play there.

Totally disagree. You can actually play with one defender in FM21 very successfully. You just need to know what you are doing. I'm currently sitting 3rd in LaLiga with Real Sociedad while using 3-4-3 diamond with only one central defender. It all depends on how you set up the rest of your team. So you shouldn't make such absolute statements without evidence to back you up. Here is  the thread where I explain my system in case OP wants to look at the last couple of pages. 

@luuktkHowever you do need a pretty technical team to succeed with this. It's a heavily possession-focused tactic. Total Football.

I mean to when you said "no one plays with just one defender" .
