[FM21] Dial M For Merthyr

Merthyr Town Football Club are based in the Welsh town of Merthyr Tydfil, located about 20 miles from Cardiff and around 40 miles from Hereford, the nearest large centre in England. Merthyr Town are one of the few Welsh clubs that compete in the English football pyramid, along with Swansea City, Cardiff City, Newport County and Wrexham FC. Merthyr Town is in the lowest tier of the group, currently sitting in the 7th level but in this save I will be undertaking a dafuge challenge and taking the helm with Merthyr starting their first season in the Vanarama North.

As well as the usual confines of the dafuge challenge, I will also be signing and using Welsh players only for the duration of the save. While the other Welsh clubs do usually have a nucleus of Welsh players and have produced some star players, I want to give Merthyr Town a lasting legacy as a bastion and promoter of young Welsh talent.

My time-oriented goals for the save are:

Short Term

• secure survival in the Vanarama North
• field an entirely Welsh starting XI
• look to sign young Welsh players released from big clubs in England and Wales

Medium Term

• win promotion to the Football League
• become financially stable
• develop home-grown talent from within the academy
• have a player called up for the Welsh national team

Long Term

• win promotion to the Premier League
• become financially secure
• make up the bulk of the Welsh national team

I had a fun save with the club on FM20 in a similar challenge, so I'm looking forward to what I can do in the new edition of the game.
