Transfers - Mar 2036

Less business this season but we may not be finished yet, Hien is unhappy and wanted but no club has offered me a good enough deal yet. A few other players are wanted too and I'm looking to loan out a few more youngsters for development.

Mvuemba and Simons are HoYD signings, we've got the cash and need to bulk up the 2nd string. Ferreyra is a right winger that well rounded with no outstanding area of speciality except work rate, hopefully he will be better than his real life namesake. Makarov had to wait until he was 18 to join. He instantly becomes the 2nd best RB at the club but I will loan him out first to get plenty of game time.

Some stagnant 2nd team players leave for more than we paid plus some loans for development including Comper and Lystad who came through in the 2035 intake.

Loan Development - July 2036

In the past I've been haphazard when loaning players out, not really looking at whether the player would be getting good game time or in a familiar position but with the introduction of a loan manager to the club its been a bit more straight forward and I haven't had to think about it too much.

Alf-Goren Boe is a casing point, my loan manager has loaned him out to clubs where he would get plenty of game time in relation to his ability and its helped him improve tremendously.

He came through in 2033 and was immediately loaned out to a 2nd tier club, KFUM Oslo and played 29 games in total, a season later another loan and this time to top tier side Stromsgodset and another 21(4) games followed albeit at a lower average rating. He then almost immediately was loaned out to Brondby in Denmark for their season and played 31(5) games including in the Europe League group stage.

As you can see over this time of practically three straight loans he has developed very well, key attributes for a defender like marking, concentration, decisions and positioning all increasing by two or more plus his physicals increasing exceptionally. His personality has also changed from Fairly Determined to Determined.

I currently have another seven players that the loan manager has sent to other clubs.

17 year old Italian striker Comper is doing well in a struggling Bodo/Glimt team. Hopefully he can following suit of Boe and develop well on loan and have the chance of first team football in the next season or two.

Significant Sale - Aug 2036

We were seemingly delaying the inevitable and had rejected smaller bids from Chelsea and Sevilla. Selling to Dortmund was preferable however, a club known for their player development and selling for profit.

Unsurprisingly the squad was unhappy but this gives me the opportunity to play Alf-Goren Boe in his place.

2036 Season Review -IK Start

Another title in Norway but it felt a little flat, we still scored 90 league goals which meant we averaged three goals per game but I don't think we played with the same authority as we had in previous seasons. Maybe adding the German leagues to the game saw too many players heads turn despite no one other than Hien leaving, who left for Dortmund. Mohlala was being constantly bid for by Gladbach, Wolfsburg and Leverkusen and only managed 16 goals this season, a prime example of outside influence effecting the season.

We won the Super Cup beating Lillestrom 6-2. We lost in the Quarter Finals of the Norwegian Cup to Stromsgodset.

We went straight into the group stages of the Champions League and were drawn with Barcelona, Porto and Universitatae Craicova. We were hammered by both Barcelona and Porto but beat Craicova home and away to finish 3rd in the group and qualify for the 1st KO Round of the EL once more.

Helstad (27 goals) and Emberland (26) top scored for the club. Krokbo, Suleiman and Mohlala all hit double figures. 7 players hit double figures for assists with new signing Ferreyra creating the most with 18. Interestingly, Comper on loan at Bodo/Glimt scored 27 goals for them, finishing 2nd in the leagues goal scoring charts.

I think my plan for next season is to sell Mohlala and keep Comper at the club as the 3rd/4th striker.

We made good money this season, the CL Prize money plus sale of Hien brought in plenty of profit. The board agreed to improve the training facilities once more which should max them out, they are currently at a Superb level.

Loan Development - Philipp Comper

Two seasons out on loan for Philipp has done wonders for his development.

A season in the 2nd tier was more probably more about his physical ability and then a season at top flight Bodo/Glimt was more about honing his technical skills. He went on to finish 2nd in the leagues goal scoring charts with 21 goals for a struggling side who finished 9th last season.

There's some good improvements here, especially overall physically as well as development of key mental skills needed for a striker; composure, decisions and off the ball have increased by at least two. At 18 years old he still has plenty of time to develop more and being exposed to first team football this season with Start and the use of our Superb training facilities he could develop further quickly.

Wonderkid - May 2037

Signed from Elfsborg two seasons ago, Alagie is fast becoming the first name on the team sheet with his performances in defence and his goal scoring threat from set pieces. He's currently wanted by Rosenborg, Chelsea and Man Utd, so we could struggle to keep him.

Europa League - May 2037

I haven't previously made an update in regards to the latter stages of any continental competitions as we've always been knocked out at an early stage. But, this time I have to make an update because...

We won the Europa League for the first time! I've achieved something which means I feel like I could walk away from Start now.

Finishing 3rd in our CL group meant we dropped down to the EL. We obliterated CSKA, needed extra time to get past Sevilla, got pretty lucky against Monaco and scored a 94th minute winner against Bilbao.

We join an illustrious group of winners including Juventus, Arsenal multiple times and Danish side Midtjylland.

Nicolas Aguirre - Sept 2037

We have our first model professional player in Nicolas. He's not exactly what I'm after at LB due to his low attacking output (no goals but 9 assists so far this season) but he is solid defensively.

Wonderkid - Sept 2037

I signed Javier from Tigres this summer for just £800k, I had this deal pre-arranged for the past two years from when he was 16. He was a wonderkid upon arriving at the club. If I can improve his technical ability we will have a very good player on our hands for a while.

Staff Update - Oct 2037

We now have 54 members of staff at Start, lets take a look at them.

First Team Coaches

Go figure, I've got the poorest personality of the lot :D. Joaquin has been with me long term and if I move I would take him with me. Four Englishmen in Rastrick, Gibson, Kane and recently recruited Billy Sharp.

2nd Team Coaches

Only 3 coaches here, the 2nd team don't play competitive fixtures plus many of the players in that squad are out on loan. In time I will increase the team here.

Under 19s Coaches

Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are the stars of this coaching team for their reputation and their personalities. We somehow have two assistant managers  .

Scouting Team

A wide mix of nationalities here to try and maximise our scouring knowledge. I need to look into bringing in an Oceania and South American scout.

Great stuff man, just caught up with this.

Safe to say you have an amazing scouting network - some of those wonderkids are phenomenal

Thanks chap!

We've had to do some more scouting as I've lost a couple of first teamers this window.

I also had internet trouble yesterday so I've completed and gone past the end of another season so need to do a brief update and then show my transfers for the new season.

2037 Season Review - IK Start

We won the league again but it wasn't plain sailing, we lost to Valerenga in game week 3 but we eventually overtook then in game week 25 when they lost to Rosenborg, having 3 players sent off to see them really shoot themselves in the foot. We beat our own record of 111 league goals by scoring 115. Most of those goals were scored by Emberland with 34 in 26(3), Ferreyra with 16 in 23(2), Mohlala with 17 in 28(2) and Comper with 12 in 15(8) games.

In the Champions League we were drawn with Milan, Porto and Celtic. We beat Porto and Celtic home and away to finish 2nd to Milan who we lost twice to. We drew Man City in the 1st KO Round and they hammered us 8-2 on aggregate. We were poor in the Norwegian Cup, lost the European Super Cup to Dortmund and also lost the Norwegian Super Cup to Valerenga.

Facilities are maxed out in every aspect and we moved into our new stadium which we bought for £14m, we're already filling it regularly in the new season. I signed another new contact taking me to the end of 2041 and increased my wages to £22k p/w.

2038 Transfers

Outs first, Lystad was a product of our academy and was valued more than his ability, off to China for twice his value and 50% profit clause. Torgesen was subject to a bidding war, Chelsea and Arsenal offered £5m for the reserve player who had been out of loan but Spurs swanned in and offered more plus 50% profit clause. I finally had to sell Aguirre, Chinese clubs kept bidding for him but he wanted to go to City, I renegotiated to £15m + 50% and off he went. He's already unhappy as they left him out of their CL squad, top work! Makarov was bought a few seasons ago for £1m and was developing well but with the arrival of Ramirez at right back he fell down the pecking order again, profit made plus 50% clause.

The ins, I actually signed a Thiago as a DoF prior to the window and Franken was one of his signings for small fee. I made an agreement with Felipe for a summer deal at the end of his contract but as we needed a LB I opted to click buy now and they wanted £160k, get in the van! Juninho joins as the biggest fee we've paid for a player, the Brazilian left inside forward has made an immediate impact. Palmer had a release clause of just £800k and the young forward has room to grow, profit will be made on him in the future.

Wonderkid - March 2038

Our very own Philipp Comper who came through the 2035 intake has just become a wonderkid. A couple of progressive loan moves and a season behind him at Start has seen his ability increase month on month over the last couple of years.

I've knocked back plenty of bids for him over the transfer window with no harm to his happiness, although the bids in question were from one club which was Mainz, that's not much of a step up in my opinion.

Back to this save as the new game I started was a little buggy.

Clauses - May 2038

Just two clauses available to sell and I think I'm going to sell both.

We sold Lystad for £4.5m and he's now worth £9m, to get just over £7m from this clause is a good deal. Players don't tend to leave China until the twighlight of their careers in FM, especially mediocre ones.

Aguirre has only played 3(2) games for Man City since joining and is only worth around £10m. Yes his value could improve with regular appearances but I don't envisage it, £5m here plus the £5m they still owe us makes this a much better deal for us.

We're guaranteed the following money; Jiangsu still owe us £1m for Lystad, Dortmund owe us £875k for Hien, Man City owe us £5m for Aguirre, Seattle owe us £500k for Oppen and Tottenham owe us £1m for Torgersen. That's £8.375m still owed.

We also have 50% clauses on Hien (valued at £44.5m/sold for £15m), Kondo (valued at £6.25m/sold for £5m), Makarov (valued at £2.1m/sold for £2.5m) and Torgersen (valued at £14m/sold for £5.5m).

Clause Sale - June 2038

It popped up on the financial overview email so I took a look and found this.

He's valued at £35m but no one is interested at the minute, I can see him being transfer listed for less than his value. We sold him for £15m so to make £11m he would need to be sold for around £37m. So I'm going to take this deal.

We're extremely Rich now. I wish I had kept track of all the clauses I have sold to show how effective my sales/clauses have been for the club.

Dubbed the Next - Oct 2038

New signing Jan Erik Price was born less than 2 hours away from Kristiansund where we are based but it was Real Madrid's academy he ended up at. I signed him on a free transfer at the end of his contract.

We also have another player who is dubbed as another former Norwegian international player. Randolf Helstad is into his 5th season with the club having joined from Rosenborg back in 2034.

2038 Season Review - IK Start

A quieter goal scoring season in the league but as clinical as ever as we win another title, this time by 12 points to Rosenborg. We lost just once, against Lillestrom, who have become a bit of a bogey team at times over the past four or five seasons, that loss ending a 40 game unbeaten run stretching back to last season.

We had another poor cup campaign but through no fault of our own as we had around 10 players called up for international duty for the tie against Rosenborg. We lost 5-4 in extra time and Rosenborg went on to win the competition. We lost the Super Cup to Valerenga 4-2.

In the Champions League we beat Besiktas comfortably 9-1 on aggregate to reach the group stage once again where we drawn with Barcelona, Saint Etienne and Midtjylland. We beat St Etienne home and away, drew in Denmark but beat Midtjylland at home, we also somehow beat Barcelona 2-0 at home but lost at the Nou Camp. However, we still topped the group on goal difference.

This seasons star signing Juninho won Premier Division PotY with 19 goals and 14 assists in 30 games on the left wing, he also won Goal of the Season. Comper (YP35a) won the Breakthrough Award and Top Scorer in the division with 26 goals and 10 assists in 29 games.

We set financially for probably 10 seasons with our current rate of spending, wage wise we have a weekly budget of £1.4m but we are only spending £200k p/w, our highest earner in Juninho on £23k p/w. Our youth setup is only costing us £400k per month which is much lower than I expected.

Big Sale - Jan 2039

Not a player I wanted to sell but he became unsettled when I rejected a pitiful offer from Barcelona. I offered him out for £15m + Clauses and a couple of Chinese clubs bit. I managed to negotiated Wuhan up to £20.5m plus the clauses.

This sale leaves us extremely light defensively.

I have a contract offer in place for a new Norwegian CB from Rosenborg but I still feel I'm a CB short if that deal goes through. I need to hoover up some talent and get them out on loan for a couple of seasons time, most young Norwegian talent is being snapped up by Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus at the moment.

Transfers - April 2039

Our transfer dealings for the start of the season are done, lets take a look. Outs first;

Just three players left permenently for a fee; Krokbo was back of the back up last season and wanted out, at 26 he could move on again from Spain so I do have a clause in there. Reinartsen was a youth player that wasn't very good and we saw Sonko's transfer above.

I also mentioned above about how short we in defence, lets see who came in.

Four players and three of those are defenders. There seems to be a real lack of out and out full backs in my game but I found one in Bernardo Mas, the young Uruguayan LB will be rotational with Felipe. van der Donk was on an amateur contract in Holland and rated as 5*. The defender from Rosenborg who I tried to sign turned down my £17k p/w offer to stay which seemed silly, anyway I panic bought Jan-Erik Hadler-Olsen who turns out to be a lot poorer than initially thought but he is Norwegian so home quota and all that. I then saw a former player of ours (well on loan), Per Nygard spent the 2035 season with us. Valerenga brought him from Juventus for £1m two seasons ago, he joins to be first choice CB along side Alf-Goren Boe.

Wonderkids - April 2039

Javier Ramirez continues to improve and is wanted by Liverpool, so far I've managed to keep him. He has now played for Mexico 38 times at the age of 19. Comper (YP35a) is out injured at the minute with a lower back stress fracture but is due back soon. He's been called up the senior Italian national side but as expected is yet to appear for them.

We have two new Wonderkids at the club.

Tokelo Solomons joined the club back in 2037 for £775k from Cape Town City in South Africa. He spent last season on loan at Rosenborg and has been promoted to the first team for this season but is unhappy due to me not including him in the CL squad for the 1st KO Round ties against Chelsea. Primarily an AMC, a position we don't use, he will be utilised as a striker and I have him working on his Aerial ability at the moment.

Bernardo Mas joined this transfer window for £1.1m from Penarol in Urugauy. He has already made his debut for the senor national side, he is currently out injured with a hernia but will start work on his ball control to help make him more effective driving forward on the left hand side of the pitch.

Away from the club on loan we have another Wonderkid who is on loan at Tromso. Norman Carnarius is a young German striker who I signed from Carl-Zeiss Jena for £1.5m in 2037.

Coefficients - June 2039

Another drop in the rankings which is really disappointing. We topped our CL group but lost in the 1st KO Round to Chelsea. We continue to do our part but other teams are failing in Europe.

  • Rosenborg - Lost to Anderlecht in EL Play-Offs and dropped into the EC2, topped their group then lost Dynamo Kiev in the 2nd KO Round.
  • Valerenga - Lost to Vojvodina in CL 2nd Qualifying Round, dropped into EL 3rd Qual Round and lost to Galatasaray then lost again to Pacos Ferreira in the EC2 4th qualifying round.
  • Molde - Lost to TSV Hartberg in EC2 3rd Qualifying Round.
  • Viking - Lost to Charleroi in the EC2 2nd Qualifying Round.

Overall this is really disappointing to see, Rosenborg aside no other clubs reached a group stage which is really hurting us. I need to look at helping these teams whether through loaning players to them or buying a player or two to give them money to improve their squads and thus improve their chances in Europe.

Player Sale - July 2039

Obviously not a player I wanted to sell as he was a wonderkid but his head was turned and I didn't want another unhappy player on my hands. We received nearly 10 times the value we paid for Solomons and we also get the 50% profit clause in there. Solomons is now worth £33.5m upon signing for Liverpool.

Mentoring - August 2039

I've never had any success with mentoring since it was changed in the last edition of FM(?) but because I have a player with a Model Citizen personality and that had recently become a team leader, I thought I would give it a try again.

Jon Hansen

I had a few players in mind that I wanted to see if I could improve their personality/determination to help make them a better player, including the recently departed Solomons. I created the below group.

Tomas Vars and Jan Erik Price are very much back up players but get plenty of game time, whilst to me their personalities are not negative they could do with improving. I want to push Comper from fairly determined to at least determined.

I've just had my first feedback email from this mentoring group.

Whilst neither players personality has changed, their professionalism has improved which will help with their own development and their loyalty has improved, neither player is at the point where their ability will see bigger clubs come in for them so this will at least allow me to keep these back up players at the club much easier. Interesting to see that Vars sportsmanship has decreased whereas Price's has increased. Maybe that means that Vars' was more than Hansen's and has decreased to his level whereas Price's has increased to Hansen's level.

Hopefully Hansen can continue to have an effect on the group and we can continue to see positive growth for these players.

Unexpected Income - August 2039

I signed Hajji as a freebie back in 3033 from Monaco but he never really got the opportunity to play with the limited number of foreign spots we had. After a few loan moves to Ranheim, Molde and Reims he made no real improvement in his ability, so I was happy to sell him to Nantes for £675k. Just over four seasons in Ligue 1 with Nantes has seen him make the move to fellow French side Rennes. He has developed nicely into a good centre back.

Model Professional - August 2039

I missed the email in which it notified me that Sthembiso Mohlala changed to a Model Professional.

He joined for £450k back in 2031 from South African side Sundowns and has played 358 games for us in all competitions and scored 197 goals for the club. I was actually actively look to sell him last season but he refused contract offers from a couple of German clubs. Seeing as he has Norwegian as a 2nd nationality it would be better to keep him around. He is also a team leader so this gives me the opportunity to create a second mentoring group.

2039 Season Review - IK Start

We end the 30's in style winning the league with tremendous ease, winning all 30 league games, we didn't even look like losing. We scored 110 goals which was our 3rd highest total scored but we also had our 2nd best defensive record, conceding only 20 goals.

League Table

We had a slightly better season in the Norwegian Cup, we reached the Quarter Finals before bowing out to Tromso, I will continue to rotate the squad in this competition.

In the Champions League we had to start in the 2nd Qualifying Round against Dinamo Tblisi, we won 6-0 on aggregate, then beat Valur 5-2 on aggregate and Rangers 4-3 to reach the Group Stages again. We were drawn against Dortmund, Milan and Zoyra. We finished the group top and unbeaten, beating Milan home and away was a great feat. We play Man City in the 1st KO Round when the new season starts.

Comper (YP35a) struggled at the start of the season, he scored one goal in 10 games after suffering a stress fracture in his back, he eventually ended the season with 33 goals in 39(1) games and is now listed as an Elite Striker. Mohlala and Emberland both scored 23 goals whilst wingers Juninho and Ferrerya notched 19 and 18 apiece.

Financially we gained again, CL prize money, player sales and transfer clauses meant we made big profit and took our balance up to £230m.

Great read when do you decide to move on though that is the question, are you getting many job approaches?

Thanks jack!

That is the question! I'm not getting any job offers despite having Germany loaded which would be the natural step up, that might be due to my £22k p/w wages/compensation too high. I'm at a cross roads really, I've won the Europa League but I've not made that next step, I'm never going to win the Champions League but I've also never won a knockout round in that competition.

I have an attachment to this team and a couple of players like Hansen (because he's Faroese & a Model Citizen) and Comper because he's such a good product of our academy. I'm enjoying the constant battle to find new players, I've just sold two more wonderkids for example and I need to replace at least one before the window shuts.

Player Sale - June 2040

I'm annoyed to lose my starting LB but its annoying feather in the cap for the scouting department. Signed for £2m and sold for £5 + £1m + 50% profit. He's instantly worth £25m but is in the U23's.

Its not the first time this season that Man Utd have bought someone off of us, they signed Javier Ramirez for £20m rising to £27m + 50% profit. He's their starting RB and valued at £40m.

Clauses - July 2040

I've spent some time to put the outstanding clauses from player sales into a spreadsheet. It makes it easier for me to convey that information into the thread without multiple screenshots.

This isn't everyone that has a clause as some are for thousands of £ in appearance fee's or total an insignificant amount in the grand scheme of things.

Basically I'm looking to see how much profit we are making including the clauses. Its a shame a players transfer history doesn't include when clauses were paid out or when/if they were sold. Then historically we could go back to see how much has been made purely through clauses.

2040 Season Review - IK Start

Another season ticks by and another unbeaten one, although we drew three games this season. We had our best defensive season, only conceding 14 goals. We failed to break the 100 goal barrier though falling just short with 98. It was a remarkable debut season for Norman Carnarius, he scored 26 goals in 27 games and got called up to the German national squad and made his debut.

We made it a double by winning the Norwegian Cup for the first time in seven seasons as we beat Valerenga 5-2, Italian Philipp Comper banging in a hat-trick. We lost the to the same opponent, Valerenga, 3-2 at the start of the season.

We faced another three rounds of qualifying to reach the Champions League group stage. We beat Ludogorets 9-2 on aggregate, then Shakhter Soligorsk 8-2 on aggregate before beating Salzburg 11-1 on aggregate. We drew PSG, Athletico Madrid and Roma in Group H. Wins home and away over Roma was the best it got for us as we finished 3rd in the group and drop down to the Europa League, hopefully we can make a good go at the competition again in the New Year.

Normas Carnarius ended the season with 49 goals in total in 36(7) games, he top scored in the league, scored 14 goals in 10 games in the CL and scored 9 in 5 in the Norwegian Cup. He was ably backed up by Comper (YP35a) who scored 36 goals in 42(1) games and Juninho on the left flank who netted 28 goals and assisted another 23.

Player ability has started to decline on a couple of key figureheads in the squad, Pickering has been ousted by new signing Nonato in goal, Irishman Mark O'Connor has began to decline technically and Facundo Ferreyra has stagnated. We had a record 18 players out on loan at clubs of various quality, Popovici spent a 2nd season at Djurgardens in Sweden and contributed to a consecutive league title whilst Connor Browne was on loan at Valerenga and scored 15 goals in 32 games from the left wing, he even scored against us in a league game.

Another £26.5m in player sales combined with numerous clauses and prize money has seen finances jump again and we sit with £276m in the bank. We're currently spending just a tenth of our £2.26m weekly wage budget.

Norman Carnarius - Dec 2040

I wanted to give Norman his own post to show him off. Picked up from Jena for £2m back in 2037, he spent the two previous seasons on loan at Tromso to give him much needed game time.

He has developed really well in all the key areas of his game. I currently have him on AMC training to hopefully boost his dribbling, passing and vision a little more.

He signed a new contract this season to keep him here until the end of 2044 plus it has the +3 year option which I will definitely exercise towards the end of the contract if needed.

Head of Youth Development - Dec 2040

On paper going from Rastrick to Rashford looks a big decrease in HoYD but I felt it was time for change after 9 years of mediocrity from intakes, we've never had a Golden Generation for example. I don't suggest for one minute Marcus will change that but he has room to grow (I've seen HoYD's take coaching courses) and he has a better personality, Model Professional versus Resolute for Rastrick.

Lets see what Marcus can bring to the club!

New Contract - Jan 2041

There's just too much keeping me here at the moment, the attacking duo of Carnarius and Comper, the scouting network, the staff network, unfinished business in the CL and a few more things.
