(FMT21) My go at the Pentagon Challenge

Hi all. So with my laptop seemly incapable of running FM21 in anger I've decided to go for an FM Touch save.

Taking On The Pentagon Challenge | FM Base

As the title says I will be doing the Pentagon Challenge. I'm sure we all know the idea but for those who don't here are the basic rules:

Win all 5 Champions Leagues

UEFA CL

African CL

Asian CL

NA CL

Copa Liberatdores

You have to start Unemployed with Sunday League Reputation and No Coaching Badges.

Wish me luck!

The Setup

So I've gone all-out and added every Nation/League I want right at the start. I'll remove them as and when I've completed a specific continent.

The Manager

Please welcome Simon Hill (me!). The FM Touch screen is much less detailed than the full fat version but I set myself Sunday league rep at the start and my favoured tactic which is a 4231.

Now let's go on a job hunt!

March 2021

Much much better. A couple of massive wins against the teams in and around the relegation battle.

So close to getting out of the bottom four.

It was a good month for Striker Terence Boyd who scored 4 goals in the 3 matches taking his tally to 12 for the season.

2020/21 End of Season Review

a774755172ab7f58d71d912356ed3854.png

Joining in Mid-December we looked odds-on to go down and after a poor run we looked absolutely screwed, somehow though we managed the great escape!

THE ARRIVALS

c4b88a7f1c38ec6309c1c02411997f14.png

Obviously only two of the above were my signings, Manneh provided some much needed goals up top and alongside Terence Boyd proved to be a dangerous partnership. The other signing Cinaz didn't make as bigger impact!

THE SEASONS RESULTS

Nothing like cutting the relegation zone off of the end of season review!

All in all we did really well to get out of the hole we were in.

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER

b647862c6bcdbc039a5cdae1696a3970.png

The 4-0 win at the end of February ended as our best results and the 1-0 win over bottom of the table Saarbrucken was put down as the match to remember (not sure about that!)

THE FINANCES

The above picture doesn't really tell you how the actual finances are does it?

All that green would make you think we are looking OK whereas the next picture tells a different story!

HOW WE LINED UP

31a0ae364817cc304e3e891b552576ec.png

I actually went with a 442 when I joined which worked pretty well. As you can see the back four rated the highest which is odd seeing as we conceded 55 goals. Terence Boyd up top was the key man though.

THE ACCOLADES

Player of the season went to centre back Stipe Vucur, a quality season from the 29-year old.

Young Player of the Season went to Lukas Boeder, the natural right back filled in alongside Vucur at centre back and played fantastically.

WHAT NEXT?

Fingers crossed we can continue our decent-ish form into next season. We have quite a few players out of contract and as expected we have no money to spend, even if I did I wouldn't be going mad seeing as the finances are a shambles. I'll be taking a good look at the squad, who my key men, who is earning too much and who didn't perform and start shipping out some of those players to shrink down the squad, save some cash and in turn try and bring some better quality in all over the park.

2021/22 Season Preview

Wow not much turnaround until the new season, either that or FM Touch goes way too quick during pre-season!

As I said previously the main aim was to reduce the wage bill and I've managed to lower it by £18k per week. Out go a lot of the rubbish players earning too much.

In comes loans and frees players for hardly any wage.

As you will see there is one player I spent money on. A top quality Icelandic player from Dortmund.

I have high hopes for this guy.

So here is the squad as we head into Matchday 1

It looks good and all for a lot less money.

The Season Preview is very optimistic.

They have us down for 9th! The board also agree and expect us to end Mid-Table.

We also look better financially but mainly because of the £1.8m we received in sponsorships.

I would love to see that stay above £1m when I get to the end of the season
