Northernpilgrim 387
Two wins from our final three games and a late goal by Frosinone was all that prevented us recording a perfect finish Which saw us finish fifth, enough to qualify for the Europa League, if I end up still here next season
Northernpilgrim 387
Time for the season review Beginning with our three new arrivals, who unfortunately underwhelmed We had a horrible run in March and April, which was the major reason we failed to make the top 4 There were some very good results though Finances have improved, which is good news if I stay on for next season This is our seasons best eleven, although no-one really shone and finally, a couple of players picked up awards
Northernpilgrim 387
Following the Euros, England offered me the job again. I turned it down for a second time
Northernpilgrim 387
I did get an interview over the summer though but whether I got the job won't be revealed until Friday evening, I'm off to bed now
Northernpilgrim 387
It was a no from Juve, but they appointed the PSG manager, so of course I've applied for that one
Northernpilgrim 387
I got an interview
Northernpilgrim 387
I got the job
Northernpilgrim 387
We join after the season has started, and already we're top of the table with the squad looking like this, although the transfer window is still open
Northernpilgrim 387
Four points from the two games I took charge of in August but dropping points away to Guingamp, after taking the lead, was disappointing although we are top of the table, our nearest rivals do have a game in hand
Northernpilgrim 387
There was one arrival, plus two departures, before the transfer window closed Wesley Fofana adds quality at centre back. Defence is the only area of concern, and two of the board objectives are to sign high reputation players and to spend the original transfer budget. This signing ticks both boxes, although I'll be looking for wing backs in the next window, assuming they back me again
Northernpilgrim 387
One match from perfect in a September in which we were without Kylian Mbappe and Ferran Torres for the Nantes, Anderlecht and Monaco games, and Danilo Bologna for the Monaco game. All should be available for our next match, after the international break We were good enough to have beaten Monaco, but given the injuries, not a bad performance and result which leaves us 4 points clear of Monaco at the top of Ligue 1
Northernpilgrim 387
A perfect October, including winning both games of a Champions League double-header with FC Barcelona and whilst there was nothing lucky about the home win we were more than fortunate to win in Camp Nou. On another day, we'd have been well beaten but I'm delighted with 32 points from a possible 36, and the 4 point lead at the top
Northernpilgrim 387
One match from perfect in November as Rennes took advantage of us picking up a red card to deny us a win with a late goal but we have managed to extend our lead at the top to 8 points, almost halfway through the season
kingjericho 353
6 conceded is a great record
Northernpilgrim 387
3 hours ago, kingjericho said: 6 conceded is a great record It's absolutely ridiculous, especially given that we're not playing defensive, or even counter, we're on positive or attacking at all times.
Northernpilgrim 387
We round the year off by winning all five games in December and we see in 2029 with our 8 point advantage at the top of Ligue 1 maintained
Northernpilgrim 387
A perfect January in terms of wins, but we made very hard work of Reims, surrendering a 2-0 lead before scoring 2 late goals to win it and we now lead by 11 points
Northernpilgrim 387
No arrivals, but four departures in January, which reduces the wage bill and should help generate funds for the summer
Northernpilgrim 387
One match from perfect in February, almost assured progress in the Champions League, and through to the Coupe de France Final. You'd think I'd be delighted with that but the defeat to AS Monaco means that, as we went into that game 15 points clear, instead of being 18 clear after it, defeat has reduced that to 12, and, for now at least, kept them in the title race
Northernpilgrim 387
An awful youth intake this year, but one potential wonderkid. This guy
Northernpilgrim 387
I did a better job of squad rotation this month, and we reaped the rewards. The only game we didn't win was the Champions League second leg, but a draw means we qualify easily, and we thrashed third placed Lyon as well leaving us 17 points clear, although Monaco do have a game in hand
Northernpilgrim 387
Again one match from perfect, and the defeat has cost us the chance to meet one of the board's objectives, reaching the Champions League Final. As that was mandatory, hopefully it won't cost my job Maybe the fact we have completed a domestic double might be enough to save me?
Northernpilgrim 387
Three wins, and three clean sheets, to finish the season and we finish on 105 points, 20 clear of AS Monaco in second
Northernpilgrim 387
Time to review the season Beginning with the new arrivals We finished the season by dropping only 3 points between February and May racked up some impressive wins but coming up short in the Champions League has been expensive This was our best lineup, although everyone has contributed There were too many awards to fit in one screenshot and confirmation that we did the double. We'll be trying to go one better next season
Northernpilgrim 387
When this job came up over the summer, I had to apply, and I got an interview, but you'll have to wait to find out if I got the job. If I don't, I'm happy to stay at PSG.
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Wednesday at 16:55 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 16:55 It was a no from Bayern. They went for the Ajax boss instead, so I'll be staying at PSG for at least another year
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Wednesday at 17:18 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 17:18 Preseason offered plenty of encouragement, our only defeats coming in the Club World Cup Semi Final and away at Ajax
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Wednesday at 17:20 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 17:20 Two players have been released at the end of their contracts
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Wednesday at 17:27 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 17:27 and two players were signed. We paid AS Monaco £91m for Nianzou and Atletico Madrid an initial £67m (rising to £95m) for De Ridder Six players have left the club, either permanently or on loan and so our squad now looks like this
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Wednesday at 21:31 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 21:31 We began the second season in Paris with four wins out of four, and no goals conceded and that left us top of the table, although the two sides below us have also made perfect starts, and have a game in hand
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Thursday at 01:48 Author Share Posted Thursday at 01:48 Unbeaten in September, despite rotating the team several times to keep players fresh for the Champions League and that is enough to keep us top of the table on goal difference from Lyon
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Thursday at 17:27 Author Share Posted Thursday at 17:27 Also unbeaten in October, again with the side being rotated to concentrate on the Champions League and despite the draw with Lens, we are four points clear at the top, although our rivals all have a game in hand
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Friday at 00:21 Author Share Posted Friday at 00:21 A perfect month in November, despite the rotation policy continuing, and that sees us secure Champions League progress as group winners and we're 4 points clear at the top, free to concentrate on the league until Champions League knockout rounds begin in February. We do have 1 group game left, but with the group won, it'll be that game, rather than the league games either side of it, that see us play a rotated side
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Friday at 17:43 Author Share Posted Friday at 17:43 Despite abandoning the rotation policy in December, results got worse, as we head into Christmas with just 2 wins in 6 and our lead at the top is down to a single point
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Saturday at 09:30 Author Share Posted Saturday at 09:30 A perfect January and although we still only lead Lyon by a point, the fact we're both in red hot form means that it's now definitely a two horse race for the Ligue 1 title
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Saturday at 10:01 Author Share Posted Saturday at 10:01 (edited) In the transfer window, we made one signing, and there have been five departures since the last transfer update Baptiste Husson is a goalkeeper, and replaces the departed Strakosha, who was almost 35 and declining rapidly Edited Saturday at 10:02 by Northernpilgrim
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Saturday at 20:49 Author Share Posted Saturday at 20:49 Six wins from seven was a pleasing February and our lead at the top is up to four points
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Saturday at 22:48 Author Share Posted Saturday at 22:48 Youth intake was once again awful, with only one player having first team potential
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 00:07 Author Share Posted Sunday at 00:07 We only failed to win once in March, but that defeat saw us knocked out of the Coupe de France but we were incredibly unlucky against Marseille and we end the month 9 points clear, although Lyon do have a game in hand
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 11:59 Author Share Posted Sunday at 11:59 A perfect April, and we absolutely battered Manchester City in the Quarter Final of the Champions League Leaving us 12 points clear, with 4 games to play. A single draw anywhere and we're Champions again
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 17:29 Author Share Posted Sunday at 17:29 Perfect in the league in May, but we crashed out of the Champions League after a shocking second leg performance but obviously we secured the title, lifting the trophy after beating Nimes and we end the season 15 points clear at the top
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 17:44 Author Share Posted Sunday at 17:44 Time for the season review Beginning with the three signings, who all excelled Results were excellent all season, but to drop only 2 points between February and May is unbelievable We were involved in some incredible games, not least a 9-0 win in which Weickert bagged 7 Finances haven't improved this season, but they are still fine This is how we lined up this season, the only underwhelming performance was that of Piccolo, but he wasn't awful There were plenty of awards, and records broken and confirmation we won two trophies this season
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 22:06 Author Share Posted Sunday at 22:06 Despite a less than easy set of preseason games, we picked up a full set of wins
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 22:10 Author Share Posted Sunday at 22:10 We made two signings, with six players leaving Liam Roth is a young defensive midfielder and Urrutia is a central midfielder
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 22:11 Author Share Posted Sunday at 22:11 This is our squad for the new season
Northernpilgrim 387 Posted Sunday at 22:17 Author Share Posted Sunday at 22:17 Although the squad depth chart provides a much better view of where we are as a team Ideally we could do with upgrading the backup options in both full back positions, but if Wijndal and Bologna play most matches, I can't see any other positions giving us too many problems
Northernpilgrim 387
One match from perfect in August and we were worthy of a draw against Lille but that was enough to end the month top, although several teams have a game in hand
