[FM21] Another year, another Rotherham United save.

Recommended Posts

Another year, another Rotherham save

Different type of save this year.  We've got promoted (thanks Covid), had a good overhaul, bringing in some youngsters, some quality players and we have a team that can make a good attempt at stayin' up this year.  But, this is where I come in and take the reins so we have a better chance of staying up.

First, my database.

I love bringing in youth players that I can make homegrown so that'll be my attempt, especially sicne the board have it in their vision.  For what reason, I don't know.  We have Wiles but apart from that when was the last time we brought a player through?  Even Yates has moved on and it isn't like we have the facilites for it, which you can see below.

Attacking football aswell?  Right, okay. :idiot:

We're expected to finish 23rd but I think are teams strong enough to stay up.

So, the team:

We're solid in this position.  Blackman is #1 choice with our youngster Johansson ready to try and step in and he'll be getting cup games.  Vickers came to replace Lewis but won't see any action.

Our right backs are Harding and Olosunde, both easily good enough and you'll want to tie Olosunde down to a new contract.  Then we still have Billy Jones who can play here.

Left back is Mattock with players needing to fill in.  Olosunde, Clarke and at a push Robertson would do this.  Even Billy Jones can fill in here.  A youth left back being brought in would be great if possible.  Mattock is your #1 though.

Center backs, we have enough.  Ihiekew(Ikky) and Robertson will be starting with Angus MacDonald being backup.  That still leaves us with Wood and Thompson(who would be ideal to move on if could) and then we still have Tilt who's currently out on loan for fitness and will be pushing for a start when he comes back.

We're in very good shape here.

In the center we have our youngster Wiles who can improve.  We have Linsday and MacDonald that break down the play.  We have Crooks who can play in pretty much any role and then we have Dan Barslaser who was a huge signing for us and is our creative force in midfield.

The Wings

Ogbene is our main man on the right wing, absolutely rapid and knows how to put a ball in the box.  Jozefzoon to push for his spot who can also play on the left.  Mickel Miller looks like he'll be the starter on the left in the game though, with Saldier also being able to play their but he's more of an inside forward looking at his stats.  Heck, even Clarke looks like he could be a good left winger this year.  That's the difference I feel this year.  We have a lot of different sort of players giving us alot of options.

Personally I feel this is our weakest area.  Game wise Smith is our strongest striker and looks like in a 4 - 4 - 2 they'll make a good pairing.  Vassell would play backup to Ladapo and Hirst backup to Smith.

If you can strengthen, this where you'll need it.

On that point we have millions in the bank, might aswell ask for more.

Right, I think the next post be when I have formations and finished my squad.  I think a sort of 4 - 2 - 2, 4 - 4 - 1 - 1 and 4 - 3 - 3 will be our best options.

I got my extra wage in from 92k to 106k.

Problem is we have no space for registration.  I can't sell Wood.  Vassell and Thompson both rejected contracts at the interesting clubs so it looks like without a young loanee our squad is final.  They have been some interesting youths available but they've gone to bigger clubs for more money for backup/youth where I'd of needed to offer 4k+ for them to sit on my bench and we can't afford that.

I've settled on a Gegenpress tactic.  We have some good runners and we've done really well in pre-season, the only time we looked like losing was when we tried to play 4 - 4 - 2.  This suits us.

We travelled to France to face some good teams.  Beating both Ligue 2 teams and drawing with both Ligue 1 teams.  We looked like we were going to win at Metz but due to some knocks/tiredness I went counter 4  - 4 - 2 and Fofana scored a 30 yard piledriver.  With Brest being two days after I carried on switching and testing and it was only thanks to Jozefzoon who has been amazing pre-season scoring in the 92nd minute that we managed to get a draw.

I'm pretty pleased with the results and obviously the result that came after.  My first competitive match at home at Salford.  4500 Millers and 272 Salford fans to watch us win in style.

It's time to go into the Championship games and see how we do.  I've also asked for a parent club which the board have agreed and still waiting for a response on that, it might bring in that midfield cover I need.  I'd be happy with 4 points here but do I think we can get 6?  Yes, absolutely.

Turns out the very next day we get to a choice of parent clubs.

Based on the decision on players I could obtain now I chose Tottenham

Just so I can loan this player in for free.  Looks exactly what I need for my cover.

We go into the first game with a slightly different prediction.  I'm not sure what's changed but bookies now think we'll stay up, just.

And we've had a nice little draw here.  Can give some other players a run out.

I say a nice little draw.  We only won due to White scoring a debut freekick after Sadlier missed a penalty.  Not our best performance.  Then we get this.

Well, that's a bit tougher.

And we were so close.  Wiles missed a huge chance in the 86th minute but in the 87th Cavani missed an even bigger.  I went with my first team here and gave Miller a chance as Ogbene isn't getting any goals and he repaid me.  To take a team like United to pens is huge.

The League

So close to perfect.  We went 1 - 0 down to Wycombe, even when they had 10 pen!  But a perfect hat-trick from Smith gave us all 3 points.  We were absolutely birlliant against Millwall, they never had a chance.  Jozefzoon had two and could of had five or six.  The Birmingham game though should have given us a perfect league month.

We battered them, we had chances and then Wiles collected a ball from their goalkeeping kicking it out, Jutkiewicz has took it off him, it's bouced off Robertson back to Jutkiewicz and he's smashed it on.  That was Birminghams only chance and we paid for it.

7 points from 3 though is huge and it's shown in the stats by our attacking football.

Let's see what we can do in October.  I'm currently bringing in some more scouts to find some more youth players for next season.  We can't attract the best and only scouts that are 11/11 in A/P but I've branched out to try bring in overseas knowledge.

If we can bring in 9 points from those 6 games in October, I'll be more than happy.  We have both Olosunde and Harding out injured so Ihiekwe/Thompson are attempting to fill in at RB.

Jozefzoon got rewarded... hopefully I can purchase him off Derby

I aimed for 9 and I ended up with 12.  Quality performance from the lads.  Best was the Sheffield Weds game.  Crooks wanted a new contract so I gave him one and he belted in a 25 yarder after 7 minutes .  Norwich were just better than us and Reading, well I got it wrong.  I set it up wrong, putting Clarke at LB to rest Mattock and they punished me down my left.  Atleast we managed to get two wins on the back of that.  Stoke was 1 - 1 until I put Freddie on, went 4 - 2 - 4 and saw it putting in ball after ball where Smith got his 2nd and Freddie his 1st of the season.

I never expected to keep this going.  We're 3rd!

I'd be happy with 6 from next month.  Some hard games.

My three new scouts.  All adding a little bit of scouting knowledge.  They're all atleast 11/11 if not higher in judging and potential but I can't ask for much more at this stage.  It is weird seeing Kallstrom as a Rotherham scout

It should have been 15 points!  Swansea went down to 10 men after 50 minutes but we couldn't find a way through.  We attacked over and over and they held us.  Bournemouth gave us a penalty when Lewis Cook handballed in the 90th minute.  I'd subbed off Smith and Sadlier stud up again to... make it his 3rd penalty miss.  He's been removed from any future penalties

10 out of 15 is still very strong and it sees us sat in 3rd after 14 games!

Considering we're here to avoid relegation, not to try and get in the place offs.  This is going amazing.

Smith and Jozefzoon still playing a huge part in our success.

December is huge though, a lot of games coming fast and we'll need to rotate.  This is where we see what we're made off and if we can keep in the top six.

And we have our first FA cup draw.  Away at Forest, we can win that!

The wheels have fallen off and we need January to repair.

We started well and we were the better team vs Coventry we just couldn't score.   Last kick of the game gave Watford a win in what would of been a fair draw and Bristol was fair.  It just happened at Ewood.  We were 2 - 0 up, cruising and I made a couple of changes.  We failed to pass to each other, Blackman had to major mess ups to gift them the goals to equalise so I ended up dropping most the squad for the Derby win.  Boro just countered us which is my bad with the formation but it's how we play and we're doing better than expected and Barnsley was just dreadful to watch, bringing on what I can only class as deadwood as we have tired and injured players.

This isn't welcome, I had some good players that I could of snagged.  It makes it look like it'll be difficult to bring them in now.

We're closer to the pack now, we gotta change our fortunes in January.

Let's see what I can do to the squad.  Bringing Tilt back in should help at the back.

It's still a bumpy ride.

We were lucky to draw against Cardiff.  We didn't register a shot on target and they dominated from start to finish.  I tried changing the selection against Derby, bringing in some of the new players but it didn't change much and we were well beaten by bottom the league, not good.  Stoke looked good, we were 2 - 0 up and cruising, I changed some players for fitness and somehow we conceded two from nothing, I was raging.  We did the same against Luton though, I changed it round and we went 2 - 0 down.  We scored 2 in stoppage time to get a point, phew.  Swansea we were the better side by far but couldn't finish at all.  If Smith doesn't score, we look lost.

Still 19 games to play, can we get in the play offs?

We've got some money in from the Vaulks deal and we're 1 game from the same with the Ajayi deal.

The finances are looking healthy.

And I've still got 20k wage budget for new players + keeping our good players.

We've moved older players on for whatever money we can, they won't play.  I wish I could get Clarke to play but I have no position for him, the game doesn't allow him to be a LB.  Vassell is leaving to Ross County in the summer and I've sent Hirst back to Leciester, he's being paid 5k a week to not even make the bench.

I've used my parent club to fill the gaps including a LB!

Football fans know Jack Clarke, after Spurs purchased him from Leeds for 9.5mil!

Bowden is being used for cover since he has no wage cost.

A LB that can push for Mattocks starting place, MOTM performance in his first start.

And then Hinds, always been good for me on FM.  I wanted him at the start of the season but couldn't move on Vassell and we had Hirst.  He's replacing both.

February will be a difficult month but let's see if we can change our fortunes.

It's just not falling for us.

We have chances but we're not putting them away.  We thre away a win at Preston due to it, we should have easily won at Reading but two quick goals after we misseed an abudance of chances saw it get zero points.  A draw away at Bournemouth was good and Norwich just battered us but the Forest game we were ahead, comfortably and they squeezed out a 20 yarder that flew in.  We're throwing away too many points.  I'm having to change tactic now, to get some goals.   The win at QPR was thanks to Barlaser scoring two free kicks.

We're dropping fast and we need to see some green.  We could easily be 15th by the end of the month.

It's still, if Smith doesn't score, who does?

I'd like to think we can get 9 points from March.

We tried for 9, we got 7.

It was amazing to see green and get 3 points from our rivals over in Sheffield.  It wss a tough game but we managed to take all 3 points back to Rotherham.  Brentford just edged us, was a fair result.  We battered Coventry but a simple save was palmed into the net by Blackman who has been dropped since.  A very good performance saw us beat a much better side in Watford but it all came apart as we were helpless as Bristol City took home the three points.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy to be sat in 11th I just feel that could be more.. 5th/6th if we'd managed to get it together.

Smith still looking for that golden boot.  What a season he's having.

That's a huge blow.  He's been great for us and we'll be trying to keep him for next season.

There's no reason why we can't go full green in April.  That's alot of matches we can win.  12 points would be great, 15 would be better.  Let's see what we can do.

Now that's more like it.

Make a couple of edits to my formation and it's like watching how we started the season.  So close to a clean sweep.  Huddersfield xG was 0.38 ours was 2.02.  We played very well but they scored a screamer from the edge of the box which made us go home with 1 point instead of 3.  I want to say Birmingham stole it but it was fair, it was just that it came in the 89th and 94th minute!  They ended up being the better side and I should have gone more defensive towards the end of the game.

Miller has been amazing.  Scoring worldies vs Boro and Barnsley and Ladapos goal vs Boro was immense.  Shame Reach stole GOTM one of our lads.

Two games left to see who gets 6th and who gets the golden boot.  Can we?  Can Smith? Let's see!

It's going to be tough.. we're against 8th and 9th!  COME ON YOU MILLERS!

We beat Blackburn.. but lost to Cardiff.  QPR won both games so we didn't stand a chance.  What a season though and this post-season thing is pretty cool!

Interesting to see.

Oof, wage could be kinder but we'll put some of that transfer fee over.

Time to sort our vision out.  Play attacking football and the style we play that wins is slated yet it is attacking/pressing.  Yeah, no thanks.  It's got even madder!  Did I somehow wander into a Barnsley thread with these demands?  Sign under 23s and no over 30s?  What on earth.  I mean I try and do that but it'll be alot harder with the brexit we got.

Anddddd, they wouldn't budge.  So much for changing my formation!

On the plus to give us a different option upfront with immense pace who can play off the wing or off Smith is this guy.  Costing me 0 and 6.5k p/w.  He's just scored 18 in 38.

A couple more end of season bits

Barlaser makes it in Team of the Year which is really good going forward.

We're the overachievers

Since the club want us to bring youth through and our facilities are poor, they asked if I wanted to have more wages for physios.  Why, I don't know so I asked for an upgrade instead and got it.

The money that comes in through playing in the Championship is a bit good for us.  I've made all my signings, sold some deadwood and we've still got 7mil in the bank but, that'll be next.  Looking forward to season 2

Season 2

Pre-season couldn't have gone better.  Oof, that display at Tottenham with players such as Winks, Lamela, Ndomele, Dier, Alli and Davies in the starting line up.  Summer signing Osayamen Osawe was immense and would of had a hat-trick if Gazzaniga didn't save his penalty.  It's all coming together.  That end of the season run, better plays to fit the clubs mould and a solid pre-season, it's time to get things under way.  I mean, fair enough I played a few lower league clubs, but it's all goals and fitness.

Players Out

For some reason the players I sold at the start of the summer window are on last seasons sold?  So I need to add both.

820k brought in through sales.  Ladapo has a year left and I didn't feel like he'd get played much or be worthy of a new contract so I cashed in.  Every other player hadn't played well enough and I'd rather use the money elsewhere.

Players In

I thought I'd spend more but I'm about 500k spend more than I've brought in which is absolutely fine.

So.. who are they?

My pacey striker that if I keep forgetting his name will just be nicknamed "hitman".  As that was his media description at his old club.  "Pacey hitman".  He's to push pressure on Smith or give Smith a rest.

Next up is Ikkys cover and a player who can still improve.  Let's hope his jumping reach isn't a problem.

Was brought in to start at AML until I found Duffy.  He's been brilliant pre-season and will put pressure on Duffy to start.  Replaces Clarke/Sadlier/Jozefzoon.

Different type of midfielder.  Someone who can break up the play and win us the ball back.  Scouts loved him.

Could be an absolute star for me.  AML starter, potential Ireland cap?  We'll see.

I have Mr. Utility in Ben Wiles.. now I have the left sided version and I couldn't pass up on it.  LB, AML, MC.  He looks good in every position.

CB cover and lets Knight go into CM if needed.   0 wage.

RB cover.  0 wage.

I felt bad with this signing.  Just because Johansson had been brilliant vs Spurs but I feel O'Hara is better and hopefully playing in the Championship can fulfil the potential that he has.

And of course we kept one of our best players from last season.  He's bloody brilliant.

We have a better squad this year with better cover in every position.  We can make a real push for the play offs I feel.  It's time to find out.  I'm using 24/25 spots incase I need to bring in cover, we have time and we'll see.

Start of the season fixtures:

Tough start, 15 points is the target and obviously a cup win.

I've just checked the finances and they're in a really good spot.  So i'm going to try get our training facilities improved.

Oh, that was easy, I didn't even need to have a board meeting, they agreed.

Let's go

What a month!  For many reasons!

We were brilliant!  We started as well as last season.   We play so well as a team.  I forgot to mention a reason I sold Ladapo was to bring our own through.  Joshua Kayode came on and scored two vs West Ham, the winner vs Charlton and in the cup.  He's scored 5 in 3 and then on deadline day I got this.

I was like wait... what?  He only has the potential to be as good as Smith but he's a Miller.  I'll jokingly put 3mil and see if they want him then.

WHAT.  He was my 3rd choice striker and probably can't improve that much.  Heck if all else fails I'll buy him back for cheap.  I bit their hand off, thanks for the record sale Crystal Palace!  Hinds can come in and do exactly the same job, so I have money to play with in January if needed.

We've not had the best luck with injuries and after scoring a worldie yet again to get us the win vs Boro, we lost Miller and it's a blow.

Hopefully it doesn't cost us too much, especially with Pite and Duffy due back.

Another goal that he's been robbed of goal of the month!

The cup games went aswell as you'd expect and we have a tough draw next, let's hope we can show what we can do vs premiership opposition.

Now the transer window has ended, this is the madness of the league and the wage budget.  Look at the bottom 3 here.

Vs the top!

The fact we're unbeaten so far and playing well shows what a team we have.

This is the league standing and I'm hoping this year we can stay in that play-off place.

Let's see what we can do in September... I'm still shocked I just got 3mil for a played worth 94k who struggled in league two last season.  Wow.  This work permit thing maybe made English players worth a ton.

  • SpillBlood changed the title to [FM21] Another year, another Rotherham United save.

What a month!

Yeah, we've been absolutely brilliant, especially vs Hull.   Osawe is playing AMR due to injuries and his pace is causing every defense problems.  Then we have Smith back, TM scoring goals.  Duffy is also back and against Hull netted a hat-trick.  Those three as my AML/ST/AMR are insane.

Oh yeah and this happened

Don't get me wrong, for the first 30 minutes we were absolutely under it.  Southampton just kept coming at us over and over but Johansson was amazing, saving the barrage.  They did manage to get a goal but it woke us up and we were even for the rest of the game.  The difference being man of the match Ogbene whos direct running down the right was causing them all sort of problems.  Huge upset, brilliant.

Can we do it again?

On back of the Southampton win, Tony Stewart was more than impressed and asked me if I wanted to extend my stay at The New York Stadium which was obviously a yes.

Our form is insane.  We're doing brilliant and we're not the only ones!   I'll take 3rd.

This is where we get tested though.  West Brom, Norwich, Leeds all in the same month?  Come on you Reds is all I can say

Solid month.  Better than I expected .  Hinds played the part of the super-sub to get us the win vs WBA.  The front trio of Osawe/Duffy/Smith made Stoke have a long trip home.  Norwich were the better side, we tried, we pushed, they pushed harder and won it in the 84th minute, fair result.  You can see why their top.  Swansea another routine win and before the cup game this happened.  Huge blow to our league push aswell.  Was dreading play Aston Villa without him.  The Leeds side is mad, their striker Rodrigo is worth more than my entire squad.  They probably edged the match but they scored a 18 yard belter and we equalised with a penalty.  Not much between the two sides, apart from the cost.

But the very last attack of the game.  It's +4, it's gone over.  Mason is running down the left, he's still running, no one closes him down.  He crosses a low ball in, Cash misses it, everyone misses in except Pite who's ready to slot in.  Felt like it was deserved.  Smart play from Osawe played in Ginnelly who missed a sitter.  Thankfully he repaid us in the penalty shoot out.  We're still on a cup run .

Can it continue?

If we can play well without Smith, we should take 12 points in November.

It started well, winning vs Wednesdays.  I didn't get to change penalty taker in time.  Barlaser missed where White just, doesn't.  Then this happened, and it reflected the next two games.

Bristol City played better than us, they deserved the win.  Against Millwall we had chances, we were solid but our forwards has such an off day.  First goal from them was such a simple through ball and the second was a belter from Jed Wallace.  We scored but it just too late.  We had the possession, the shots but no points.  Then we played Portsmouth, Jackett had just been sacked and we took advantage of that.  Ginnelly putting in an amazing performance from AMR scoring a brace and Pite also scoring a brace from MCR.  Nice.   Shame we should of kept a clean sheet but our goalkeeper O'Hara made a rare mistake by literally throwing the ball to their striker and leaving an open net

It would have been nice to get atleast 9 but I'll have to take 6.  We're still 2nd.

We go into December with a striker less.  Hinds' agent is being a bunch of swear words so he has no place here.  I'm trying to move him on, he won't play for me again.  He wanted a new contract, I refused.  I decided to give in as I felt I was being harsh then his agent wanted to put in a 450k min fee.  Yeah, it ain't happening dude, you and your client can go elsewhere :herman:

We'll see what December brings, it looks like a difficult month.

Amazing, absolutely amazing.  Everyone went pretty much right.  Started the month a bit nervous after we drew.  Luton knew where to hit us with long balls and a draw was a deserved result but then we turned it on.  Smith comin' back and getting himself a brace to give us the three points against Reading.  Scoring again with Osawe to give us another three against QPR.  We battered Cardiff, how we only drew I'll never know.  West Ham we were absolutely class and I kept the same team vs Forest even if it was only two days after but we pulled through.  Sadly my new years news was this.

That's a huge blow.  I need to bring a striker in ASAP.

This is how the league looks.  Comfortly second at the moment which is great to see.

Oh yeah, I'm forgetting second... ANOTHER AMAZING CUP VICTORY!

Oh we grinded it out.  Watford missing their only CCC and hitting the woodwork but we managed to get to pens and steal the victory.... but the next battle is going to be a bit more difficult :(

I mean, the other teams could have been Manchester United or Manchester City so I guess this is our best chance.  Without our best player... yeah... let's see shall we.

January will be a month to see how good our football is.  That's alot of games of football to be played.  A couple of transfers will be made.  Hinds is leaving and I should have a CM with potential though he's already 20 coming in.

Pretty good month.  It didn't start well as MK Dons equalised in the 94th minute to force us to play another fixture in an already packed January.  We were 3 - 0 up and they back to what looked like might be another draw!  Thankfully we saw it through and then battered Fleetwood in the next round.

We gave Arsenal a good match.  First leg they scored in the 92nd minute, deserved.  We managed to go 1 - 0 up at the Emirates with a counter and finish by Smith after that were battering us.  They managed to get the win the 84th minute with Martinelli hitting the post and it bouncing in.  I thought Ihiekwe had equalised but his header went just over.  Crackin' effort against a much much bigger team.

We still managed to pull out three wins against one loss with so many games, I'm happy with that.  Huddersfields defense were solid, our defense had an off day.

Was a bit of a bumpy road though.  Smith got himself a brace and an injury so we had no strikers!

I had two options in mind and decided to bring in both for the rest of the season.  Thankfully it's been a good decision because both have played.  Edmondson picked up a knock in their first game, giving us a debut goal before hand and was out vs Charlton but Glatzel said no worries and picked up a brace, wasn't his debut though as he came on against MK Dons.

We also have an option future fee with Edmondson that's set at £2.5mil.  Younger Smith maybe?  We'll see.

There's something about Glatzels stats that I like.  If we got him playing and the correct stats up, he'd be a pain to play against.  We'll see though, we haven't got a future fee but 750k should bring him in.

They weren't the only ones to come in though.  Elliot Watt joins in our midfield.  He was on form in league two for Bradford City, listed for 200k and has potential.  Worth a crack.  He was very solid in his debut vs Barnsley but he was injured for two weeks with a virus (sounds weirdly familiar).

There's Rotherham though, happy to bring in two loan players and a midfielder for 200k.  Then there's Leeds... and we're above them

Oh wow, the league is in 5th overall spent aswell.

We're 3rd at the moment but have a game in hand.  Can we make February count?

Oh and the fifth round.

7 games, 7 wins please :D:D:lol:

Not the best for us.  12 points out of a possible 21.  Birmingham were better, it was that simple.  We managed to turn it on for Blackburn and Preston but somehow even though we battered Hull we only came away with a point.  West Brom got their goal from a penalty, we equalised from a 20 yarder from Matt Crooks, his second in two games as he also got the goal vs Hull.  Stoke was just even, nothing to seperate us.  Swansea though... we battered them and Pearson said we were lucky and undeserved!?  I mean, come on... Really!?

We're still 3rd on goal different and it's all to play for.

We were the overachievers in the Carabao Cup, what a crackin' run we had.

Can we get another cup run?

This is the month that tells a tale for me.  Leeds and then Norwich, that's two very difficult games.  Come on Millers!  Lets get a green March!

I played a second string so I had my first team fit for the Leeds game, I didn't mind losing.  Oh man though vs Leeds.  We played well but they scored two screamers, we can't do much about that one.  Norwich was worse, 4 - 2 up and so really really silly mistakes at the back let them equalise.  I have no idea how we didn't win that match.  I can only see it as two points dropped.  We've bounced back though and scored 9 in 2.  Heck we've scored 15 in 4.  We just gotta keep this going.  We're close, WBA are #1 in the form table and have been for a long time.  They're now ahead.  We have 6 games to decide who gets automatic.

On the plus side we have a player of the month.

And Leeds wanted me, I'm not going anywhere.

There's no reason we can't take 18 points from this.  No reason at all.  Come on Millers.  One last push!  It's crazy to think we could get 100 points and finish third.

It's down to the wire.

And we lost our starting LCB.

3 to go.

And we're now without our RB.

We lose to QPR in the 91st minute.  Two to go.

We beat Cardiff thanks to a brilliant solo goal by Ogbene And O'Hara being MOTM.  West Ham do us a favour.  One to go.  ONE GOAL DIFFERENCE.  Will that throw away draw to Norwich that we should of won really be the reason we don't make automatic?

The last day

Walcott has picked up a knock and White has gotten injured before the game so we're without two of our key players.

The form table may have us favourites here.  We're against 11th and West Brom face 5th.

How we're lining up to start.  No Robertson, Walcott or White is a huge blow.  Atleast we have Olosunde back.

Lets go!

First half:

27th minute:  We steal the ball and counter but it's a hide and wide shot.

31st minute:  We're 1 - 0 up!!!  Corner swung in, Smith heads it.  Their keeper gets a hand to it, it his the bar and into the net.  We're still 3rd though.  Grant puts West Brom ahead.  WE NEED MORE GOALS.

33rd minute:  What a goal.. it's 1 - 1.  Pritchard scores an absolute belter from the edge of the box.  Top corner.  COME ON FOREST HELP US OUT.

34th minute:  We attack with venom and their keeper needs to make a good save.  Again, down to make a good save this time from Wiles.

It's half time.  It's not what we want.  I thrash my arms.

Second half:

54th minute:  Barslaser free kicks!  But it's saved.

65th minute:  Two subs.  Barlaser off for Watt and Duffy off for Ogbene.  Crooks is playing deeper, we're really missing White.

Wait.. we're winning?!  65th minute.  BEFORE the subs.  Olosunde hits a ball over and Osawe puts it in!

It's 2 - 2.. wait it's not!  They score but O'Hara is fouled!

West Brom just went 2 - 0 up.  Penalty in the 71st minute.  We'd need 3 goals iirc.  Oh well, might aswell attack!

I cannot believe that Norwich mess up is going to cost us promotion... it's over.  It's the play offs for the Millers.  You only needed 95 points to be promoted last season as Champions!

I guess we won some awards at least?

Or that damn QPR 91st minute winner.  I can't believe how close we were.

And it's decided, this is going to be tough.

First leg:

Think we edged it personally with a silly mistake gifting Leeds a goal.  Then again 1 - 1 was probably a fair result.  Can we get the victory at home?

Second leg:

Wiles scored an absolute belter and Duffy tried one, it bobbled infront of the keeper or something 'cause he absolutely messed it up.  The xG

We really should be beating Stoke.

The last day part 2.

And we start with another injury.

This also leaves us without Glatzel.  Two strikers down.  White is back so we line up like this.  Robertson is also back but only to the bench.

Right again... LET'S GO!

First half:

2nd minute:  Crooks bursts through and plays in Osawe but he hits wide.

14th minue:  Ball over the top to Afobe and pretty much he just kicked it out of the stadium.

21st minute:  Corner in and Walcott has a shot but  it's at the keeper.

24th minute:  Pite smashes it but it's saved for a corner.  We swing it in and it's easily saved.

28th minute: Another corner, headed over by Walcott.

29th minute:  Stoke go ahead, 1 - 0.  White makes an awful pass to Crooks, Woods steals, plays in Brown who smashes in.  No idea what White was doing there.  Under no pressure.

We go in behind at half time and I'm giving them an absolute bottle throwing.

Second half:

Stoke lead 2 - 0.

49th minute:  Ball over, Afobe unmarked, hits in.  Edmonson is replacing Ogbene.

53rd minute:  We've got one back!  Walcott heds in Pites corner.

55th minute:  WHAT!?  It's 2 - 2!  Olosunde crosses in, everyone misses it but Edmonson slots in!!!  GAME ON!

2  -2!

58th minute:  Afobe header, onto the bar!

62nd minute:  Stoke corner, also onto the bar!

Barlaser replaces White.  20 minutes to go.

It's full time, time for extra time.  I'll be nicer this time.

First Half ET:

92nd minute:  Thought Stoke were going to go ahead but turns out he was a mile offside, phew.

There's a goal.. TO ROTHERHAM!

95th: Quality passing, Olosunde plays to Osawe who hits a cracking ball, keeper no chance.  VAR havin' a good look, do one VAR.

Second half ET:

It's 3 - 3.

Ball played through, Afobe shoots, O'Hara saves... into his own net!

106th minute: It's 3 - 3.

108th minute:  Crooks has a good chance but saved.

It's penaltys, bloody heck.

Well they missed their second and we scored ours... but they scored their third and we missed ours..

Two to go.. O'HARA SAVES!!!!  Can Duffy score?! HE CAN!!!

COME ON EDMONDSON!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might buy him just for that goal.

Oof, look what I can do with that money.

And on the list of unrealistic visions from the board.

I've just been promoted, I need to play high-tempo, pressing, possession, attacking, entertaining football.

They just don't expect you to change you're style of play. It won't be a bug.

Attack is the best form of defense! I can't remember the last time I played a defensive tactic whether I was playing with a poor attacking side or against a much better side than mine.

I think you'll stay up if you continue with the same philosophy.

I understand they're not but we're a small fish in a big pond.  If I wanted to play defensive, I don't feel I have the option.  That seems far fetched.

To be fair, I agree with this .  I don't know how to play defensive formations and my signings so far are showing this.  Oh I need a new full back.. and attacking full back

Congrats on your promotion.

Cheers man.  Hopefully I can stay up.  Our reputation hasn't gone up enough so I might be shy on a little bit of quality.  Then again I've had some very very good free transfers.

Transfers so far

We're about to hit our first Premiership game, at home to Tottenham and I haven't finished my transfers yet.  I'm still after wide players.  One will be joining aslong as the work permit is accepted.  The other well, Monaco and Napoli have just bid for him aswell so I offered him a bumper contract, he'll be a star.

Talking about big clubs interested.  Meet my favourite of the players I've brought in.  Absolutely free.  Manchester United also offered him a contract but I plan to play him.  He could be an absolute star for me.

Whilst I've shared one CB I'll show the other.  ALOT of clubs were interested and I somehow beat them all.  750k in compensation and potential England CB in the future.

To finish my defensive recruitments, two solid fullbacks join the ranks.

When my loans went back these two found themselves listed.  They still have potential, they scored for me.  They'll be given a chance here.

My replacement for Harvey White.

And I guess what we'd call our marquee player.  Shame he's out for 3 weeks.

Hopefully I can get rid of a couple of dead wood, even if it's on loan and bring two wide players in.

This is the player we're waiting on a permit for.

And this is the player that we're in talks with against Napoli and Monaco.  Milan and Dortmund are also interested.

This is how our season starts.  Potentially can get 6 points here I reckon.

Well, we started off well vs Tottenham, we were probably the better side of the two by the end of it but then..

And this happened.

We even went 2 - 0 down in the cup.  We signed the new side players, it hasn't worked out so far.  Everything hasn't.  West Brom were the better side.  Fulham were and Johansson was a rock.  Manchester United have played 5 and scored 24.  They're amazing.  It looks bad but they beat Norwich 6 - 0 who had just beaten Manchester City 4 - 2!  The again game was frustrating.  Bree just passes them the ball to slot in, it was awful.  Bree and Bola have felt like absolute flops so far.  Bola unable to prove himself as he's currently injured.

We did make a change on transfer deadline day.  We sold Tilt for 500k and brought in a LCB.  It's a complete punt, especially on those wages.  But if he finds form next to Vinhas I honestly think that's one heck of a CB partnership.

The window closes, let's see if we can bounce back.

If we play our best, we can get 9 points from this.

Simple cup game which we dominated.  We couldn't take that into the Burnley game though and our creativity was poor.  Wolves managed to take all three points in the 87th minute and thanks to super O'Hara saving a penalty we managed to draw vs Sheffield United.

I changed to 4 - 4 - 2 against Sheff Utd and Duffy really should have scored.  Going to try it for a few games.  Every team seems to be playing it.  We're lacking chances.  I gotta try something to stay in the leage.  Especially when next month looks like this :(

I expect full red and for this table to have a gap between us and 17th.

Atleast we managed a win so we're not so down and out.  A lot of football to be played.. next year.

4 games in 2 months due to the World Cup, that's such a weird feeling.

Pretty sure January will tell us a tale or two if we'll stay up.

Up to January and January

I said it'd tell a tale.

Where everyone just chilled over the early winter, I played a ton of friendlys to get morale and fitness up and test our new formations.  I mean, I left the friendlys to Richie but it proved to work.  Back to 4 - 3 - 3 and change to 4 - 4 - 2 if we need to look for a goal.

It's worked.  We were class against Newcastle, we won a penalty in the 94th minute against Bournemouth to secure all 3 vital points.  We lost to Arsenal in the 93rd minute!  Osawe with a poor clearence and Eleny scored an absolute rocket.  Tottenham we took to the 86th minute, O'Hara making an awful clearence, they pinged it back and Hojbjerg had an easy finish.  West Brom, one of the best teams I'd played this season have hit a rough patch and we took advantage of that.  Poor in the first half, great using 4 - 4 - 2 in the second.  Brighton we battered, it took one cross and one header for them to score.  We should have had 3 or 4.  Fulham we were the better side but I'd take an away point and then to be the better side vs Everton shows we're improving.

Now that looks alot better.  Let's keep it going.

Vinhas is improving nicely.

He has a 36mil release clause to Champions League teams.  May try and get rid of that in the summer.  He'll probably be asking for a new contract by then.

The market was a quiet one.  With Leeds in the Championship still making the second biggest purchase.

And Premiership money is crazy.

Another month with important games.  We gotta get results vs Palace, Burnley and Norwich.

It went incredibly well.   A wonder goal by Mason Greenwood was the only reason we didn't pick a point at Old Trafford, compared to how we last played against them it showed how much we've come along (we lost 7 - 1).  Palace was even, we didn't break each other down, switch to 4 - 4 - 2 to try and get the goal and Edmondson decided to drop kick the palace defender and got an early bath.  I was glad to hold on.  We battered Burnley in our next game, battered Norwich both home and away where in our away game Osawe should of had 5, he absolutely terrorised their defense.  Glad to see players stepping up in the absence of Edmondson.  Osawe scored a quality goal against Wolves but so did Boga and they were the better side to take all three points.

I forgot to mention our FA cup run.  A solid display and late headed goal from Smith let us get a historic victory vs Arsenal and it was just routine vs Portsmouth.  We battered them from start to finish.

We're 12 points from relegation zone.  I think we should be able to stay up.  11 games to go.

Could get some points in March.  Wonder who'll we play in the FA cup.

I've managed to keep some good times going and they've already offered me a new contract

We were really good vs Sheff Utd, just edged the game and we went down to 10 men in the 63rd minute with Vinhas handballing and getting a second yellow.  we held on.  Osawe doin' great.  Villa we were amazing, how we only won 3 - 0 I'll never know, could of been 7 or 8.  Everything worked.  Arsenal were just too good for us.  I switched from 4 - 4 - 2 to 4 -3 - 3 and we had no chance.  4 - 4 - 2 works for us, I need to build on that.

We took that into the FA Cup game at home to Spurs.  We battered them, we should of killed the game off in the first half.  Robertson came on, gave a pen away but Glatzel got his 2nd in extra time to send us through to the semi final.

Vs Sheffield United .  Final will be either Manchester United/Manchester City vs Rotherham United/Sheffield United.

I'd say we're safe, heck we could potentially finish top half.  At worst is 13th place if we keep it up, that's huge.

This is nasty though.  I hopefully can get 3 points away at Brighton and an FA cup win.  Any other points are welcome. Going to play 4 - 4 - 2 and see what it brings.

We did it.  Hard battle with a few injuries but we came out on top

And I'm glad we have City.  We have a better chance against them compared to Manchester United.

Talking about City, some clause money we'll never see

We were brilliant vs Chelsea.  Osawe giving their backline no room to breath and they kept making mistakes.  They got a red card which made it even easier in the second half.  City was so close to being 3 points, we were good and they got an equaliser in the 92nd minute!  Leicester was an even game, fair result.  Brighton we were the better team, we hit the woodwork twice and had a bad day infront of goal, they scored, they win.

13th is the worst we can finish, that's a great first season.

Should be able to get 9 points from May aswell.

We made so many mistakes vs Palace.  We gifted them two goals and their third was a Townsend strike which hit the post onto my keeper and in.  It was just great to see how bad they were at the back so we could get the goals back.  We matched Liverpool all the way, they went in league leaders, not anymore.  We battered Newcastle and somehow couldn't score and then we relegated Bournemouth.

We finished 8th.  Bloody buzzin' with that.

FA Cup Final

First half:

2 mins: That's a great block from Vinhas to deny a through ball to Jesus or he'd of been clean through.

5th minute: The other end.  Davies makes a lunging block to stop Ogbene getting the shot off.  It falls kindly to Son and City start to counter but Rotherham block it.  The balls stolen back and City attack again, we're managing to clear but City keep coming at us.   It's 1 - 0.  Jesus hits in Davies' cross.

9th minute:  Ogbene managed to find his way through but it's only the side netting.

15th minute:  Lucky deflection lets De Jong play in Son and it's.. wait, Son is offside.

Nothing else has really happened, it's half time.  Time to encourage the lads.

Second half:

60th minute: I'm going to change to my pressing formation.  Ogbene and Pite are struggling to make any impact.  Crooks and Abraham are coming on to replace them.

72nd minute:  Wiles hits a great ball out to the right.  Osawe collects and goes through but Laporte finds a way to block.

79th minute:  Odd sub as I don't want to change much.  Robertson is off and Clarke-Salter is on.  I mean, he's headed some in this season and I try and attack as much as I can.

92nd minute: It's city with the ball and they nearly score.  We go forward but it's over.

Unlucky Millers.  They absolutely nullified us.

Fantastic season mate! Great to see Ryan Gauld doing well for you too :D I have him too and he has been unlocking defences for us!

He's been great and someone who's automatically in the team :D.  Just need a better B2B next to him and I think I have him.  A gem from my save last year, not yet reached his potential 'cause he needs to play but my scouts gave him a 91 scout rating.  Transfers nearly done and there's a few proper good signings for us :D.

Shame there's some deadwood that nobody wanted :(:D.

Also out:

My left side was my weakest.  It felt like Bola was either injured or playing poorly.  Clarke-Salter was often played out at LB and Pite at LM.  It's where we needed to strengthen the most, so I spend some money and got some good players in.

First is my starting LB, I think he can push on and prove his record transfer.

With a LB that is breathing down his neck to take his place.  Absolute great considering he was free.

I needed a new left winger and the best player I could find is this guy.  Could be good.  Love his Determination/Flair/Work Rate.

So, Grimes didn't cut it, at all, anywhere he played.  Wiles isn't performing that well.  I need a B2B and this guy was class on FM20.  Hopefully I can push him to that level.

My scouts told me about this striker for only 4.2mil.  Yeah, I bid for him straight away, it gave me a steam achievement called "rushed signing"

Another CB, can I partner him with Vinhas I wonder.  Big teams were interested, no one bid, so he's a Miller.

A RB to replace Bree.  Man I hope we can get him to hit his potential, he looks good!

Young with bags of potential.  Try and train him into the next Ryan Gauld.

And just a young goalkeeper so I have 3.

Time to start the season.  Hopefully players such as Abraham, Glatzel and Matko can hit their potential this season.

I think we can grab 6 points from August
