Season 2 - 2023 - Second Youth Intake

From the last update, we were languishing just 3 points above the relegation zone before the mid-season break.  I think teams in Chile have a month ( to ) where they do not have any league games scheduled, and I think the latter stage Copa Chile games run in this window.  Having only won 3 of 15 before the break, Concepcion needed to start new.  We began a more attacking based 4-2-3-1 that miraculously began a ridiculous run that won 9 in 11 after a couple of morale-boosting friendlies during the break,  We are now in 3rd place and the middle of the playoff pack.  Our retiring 37 year old striker has been put aside for a more younger and athletic frontman, and our rightback also came back from a 5 month layoff following a broken ankle.

Our second youth intake has now arrived and there are a few very promising players within the group.  There are whispers of a "golden generation", but our coaches all aren't very good, so what do they know?  I hope they're right...  Many of the intake are especially determined.

A few players who look quite promising:

 

Alex Jara 23A - Hope to retrain him as an Advanced Forward and could lead the line for years to come.  Is there anything as too brave?

 

Daniel Vasquez 23B - He might even be able to come off the bench in the attacking midfield.  Seems to make good decisions.  Like joining Concepcion and his simple hairstyle.

 

Alex Santis - 23C 17 Determination!  Sign him up!

 

All in all things are looking up at Concepcion.  If we can finish the season in the playoffs again, and start to properly develop this new youth intake, we might be able to turn this season upside down.  We still need some more central defenders though...

That's the thing, I can't even offer them PT contracts because they are unhappy about being transfer listed. I even holidayed the whole season to see if I could do anything about it but nothing changed. Also 2 of the 5 transfer listed players were no longer there at the end of the season.

Well, the intake didn't disappoint.  Some tremendous players here.  I was promised a good goalkeeper and that is exactly what I got.  In fact, he is the standout player.

My team is professional and even at the end of season 3 I still can’t offer contracts to players who were non-contract and transfer listed when I took over. I still have one left who hasn’t had an interest but the rest gradually got poached.

End of Season Review

Season 2022/23

SV Babberich

League Table - We were top for most of the season.    We did finish the finish the season poorly, however and nearly blew it.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - A great season all around.  Whilst we never hammered anyone, it was our consistency that proved vital.

Pre Season Friendlies - A good pre season with only one defeat.

Mid Season Friendlies - With long breaks between games in the second half of the season, I played a few friendlies to maintain fitness.  Alas, the results were not good.

Squad - An excellent group of players that are only going to get better.

Squad Dynamics - Not great, but then most of the squad have only just arrived, so not entirely unexpected.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - None.

Youth Candidates - A terrific intake, with goalkeeper Olivier van Brakel YP23B18 being the clear standout player this year.

Finances - Not good at all as we continue our slide in the red.

Key Players

Olivier van Brakel YP23B18 - The best player at the club and has started his career very well indeed.

Tim de Jong YP22E5 - A goal machine.  He is not rated that high, but scoring at more than a goal every game, shows how good he has been.

Hussien Ayoubi YP23N30 - Afghan midfielder who dictates play in the middle of the park.

Yassir Amrani YP22C3 - Moroccan central midfielder who had a fine season.

Tom Zandvliet YP23A17 - Versatile centre back or defensive midfielder.  He should prove to be a vital player for us.

Nooit Gedacht - Season 2021-2022 - 8th division

Predicted: 12th

Final position: 3th

 

My team ended the holiday season in last position and was 1 of the 40 possible teams to manage. In the end my daughter made the decision who I should play. What I didn't know before was that this was the first team of Ruud Van Nisterlooy, and we all know what a carreer he had. Let's hope we can have a new Ruud in the intakes.

We had an incredible season. We were in 1th position with 3 games to go, but suddenly we played terrible football. Before the last day we and Margriet were tide in first postion with exactly the same points and goal difference. Margriet got the upperhand of us as they had scored 2 more goals. VVA was the team in 3th postion and were only 1 point behind us. During the last game of the season we took twice the lead, and on thoose 2 moments we were champions. But again we couldn't hold the lead and ended the game with 2-2. Margriet won theit game and were crowned as champion. In the last minute of the VVA game they could score the winning goal, leaving us in 3th postion. Gutted to lose the title in the last game of the season, but proud on what we have achieved in this first season.

Youth intake: A good preview. But at the moment of the actual intake I didn't had any coaching staff, so didn't know how good the players were. 

Steve Copabianco (YP1a): GK. At the end of the season I finally found my first staff memeber, and he gave this GK 5* CA and PA

 

Transfers: Only 1 outgoing player and I didn't understand this trasnfer. At that moment we were the leaders and he went to a team also in the 8th Tier who were bottom.  I do think that he was the missing link in the second half of the season and that this 1 of the reasons that we missed the title.

 

Finances: In black, so that's good.

I know this is a bold statement with so many great players that have come through intakes on this challenge, but I don't think I've seen anyone as talented as Carlos Brunetti. This guy is only 16 and he is one of my best players. He only has 11 in determination and a light-hearted personality so he might not develop as good as some other players, but I truly think he can become world class.

SC Eendracht Aalst - Youth intake - Season 1 (2021/2022)

A striker from Egypte? can't wait. I need players to fill my squad and bench.

Signed them all (16) because i need some squad depth. Happy with overall personalties and some of the special nationalities. Four or five could feature in the first team next season.

Some mixed Nationalities, a few from Africa and two good Italian boys.

Best of Class 2022

 

 
Jacobs 22-1 is the best prospect, he could be my main MC next season. Lucarelli 22-2 will be retrained as WBR . Urso 22-3 has potential to be a squad DC and he is tall. Ghany 22-10 isn't starting with a lot of CA but he has the best PA. Driven personalty and good determination is a very good thing.

Arzachena Academy Costa Smeralda - 2023/24 Season Review

Cup - Squad - Finances - Transfers

Another decent season in the book. In some ways it could be seen as disappointing to miss out on the playoffs by only two points but the reality is it would have taken a minor miracle for us to get through them and get promoted from 10th place. We started very strong with 3 wins from our first 3 games and were briefly top of the table, floating around the top 7 until just after Christmas. This time a really poor run of form in the new year saw us drop to 12th, bringing about a change of tactics that led to a decent pick up of 3 wins from our last 5 to end the season in a respectable 11th place.

Our finances are still dropping so i'll need to keep an eye on our facilities to make sure they don't regress. We have some decent players and I wouldn't be adverse to one or two sales to secure the long term financial future of the club but unfortunately our best player and Maltese international Al-Tumi is only worth and underwhelming 39k, with the rest of the squad even less so I don't think anyone would pay us enough to make a difference. Gabriele Dore has been our best outfield player over the last three seasons but unfortunately has outgrown the club, refusing a new contract and will leave us on a free in a months time. Barcella (22d) has big shoes to fill and will be joining Budroni (22c), Corradini (22g) and Constantini (24g) as the fourth player from a youth intake in our strongest starting 11. I'm confident that whoever gets promoted will be weak enough to keep us out of trouble for another season whilst I continue to integrate the youngers players more.

Lots of potential here again but the personalities very much need some work. Constantini is the pick, and is already in the first team as right back has been a weak position for some time. We won 6-2 against Fidelis Andria (our biggest win of the season), with Constantini putting in a steady performance down the right flank.

The man boy is a beast!  Genuinely one of the best NewGens I have seen.  He is going to get some red cards though.

So I've found that this tactic doesn't get us as many goals as I would like, and we've as of late have conceded too many goals for my liking. Admittedly, some of the players I use are not good enough for the division, but I had been hoping for better things from this tactic.

Instead, I went back to this tactic, and immediately we managed to pick up a 3-1 victory against one of my fiercest rivals. So it seems I'm going back to my previous tactic from last season. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised since it almost got us in the playoffs last season.

Merthyr Town FC – Season 2022/23

Survived again. 3 points better off than last season. Had a decent start, winning 6 of the first 12 matches. Petered off rather quickly though. Again had a poor end to the season, but with the four bottom teams being so far back points wise, it wasn't too much of an issue. Tried changing the tactic up a bit midway through the season, from sitting back and countering to being more proactive and keeping the ball. The idea being that if I had the ball, the opposition couldn't score. Had mixed success with that strategy as well, being countered to death against a couple of sides. The shift in tactics made us score more, but also ship more goals, ending in approximately the same goal differential as last season. Again our wins were mostly 1-0 or 2-1, our losses tended to be 0-2 or 0-3.  We did beat the league winners York 1-0 at home, but got battered 1-6 away.

Best performer of the season was the goalkeeper Absalom, while the top scorer was Camden Duncan, who finally signed a new contract in may. Performances average in general, with 3 from the 22 generation establishing themselves in the team. Jonathan Williams 22a starting regularly, Steve Davey 22b becoming important and Ryan Richards 22c taking over the left back slot. Andrew Savage 22d surprised with a few good cameos, just goes to show what pace can do on this level.

The youth preview seemed fine, but not really worth reading too much into it. The intake was similar to last, but only one player ready for the match squad. Tending towards undesirable mentalities sadly. Jamie Richards 23a the pick of the bunch with his pace. Luc Claridge 23b could become an ok utility player. Bryn Kelly 23c might make it, with his good teamwork and work rate. We'll see in a season or so if they can make the first team on a regular basis.

The facilities is as they were at the start, having no finances for any improvements. I'm hoping we'll finish a place or two higher next season, but according to the season preview it'll be more of the same. Not predicted last for a change though!

Started this around a month ago in Greece with AO Kavala. I initially lost a bit of interest and then decided to just plough through and we're now in 2026 so I have a fair few updates to post, this being the first one.

 

 

Season Review 2020/2021

I could of chosen Niki Volou, Olympiakos Volou or Panserraikos but where would the fun be in that? So Kavala it was and a long hard struggle began.

 

Predicted to finish bottom in the 2nd tier.

Never in trouble of relegation the first season but also never troubled higher up. No Transfers as always!

The youth intake preview was a 'golden generation' but with the standard of our first team opposed to the leagues standard it was always going to say that.

The intake was good but a striker was the position we needed the most! I'll link the guys below I signed up.

I am using some variation of Priisek Natural Green Pitch Background Skin, although not fully updated.  I fiddled with the IBH match screen as well.

Praying for someone to create a proper light skin for FM21, they all seem to pumping out dark skins this year.

South Shields 2029-30 Season Review

Fixtures 1, 2, 3, 4 - We started really slow and it's all my fault.  I tried to have the team play in a 4-3-3-0 formation and just didn't work.  I switched back to the Base 4-4-2 and we started to play a lot better.

League Table - We finished in the 5th place and earned ourselves a place in the playoffs.  We could have finished in the top two had I played the 4-4-2 all season but I tried to jam a square peg into a round hole.  So, it was the playoffs for us.

Playoff Tree - The tree doesn't reflect it but we needed extra time to beat Colchester in the semifinals as some of our former youth products (Robbie Newton 23B and Michael Wakefield 24A) tried to stop us from advancing to the final.  We defeated Peterborough 2-1 in the final and earned promotion to the Championship.

FA Cup - Another run to the 3rd round.  This year, it was Premier League side Brighton who knocked us out.

League Cup - One and done as Hull knocked us out.

Checkatrade Trophy - Knocked out in the group stage as I used the event solely for the backups and rested the starters.

Transfers - Nobody sold.  A few players out on loan.  A couple of future fees got activated for smaller than hoped amounts.  Robbie Newton 23D     Michael Wakefield 24A

The board decided that we need to move up a youth level for the 2031-32 season.  Not sure what happens when we make the jump to Category Two maybe our U23 team will play in a competitive league.  Right now, our senior and U18 teams play in competitive leagues but our U23s play friendlies all season.

Geoff Thompson has decided to step back from a full-time role running the club.  Mark Webster has taken over the club.  Not sure if he will have the same sugar daddy tendencies that Thompson had.  Thompson covered the yearly losses.  If Webster doesn't, I may have to sell players more frequently than I have been.

Club legend Jason Gilchrist has hung up his boots and called it a career.

So, he is more than a third of the clubs total wage cost, but the "pacy hitman" is worth it though!

Manager's Thoughts

Very satisfied with this first season. Almost perfect run in the competition, solid run in the cup and at the request of the board the step to being a professional club. Hopefully I will be able to extend the contract of a few more important players and survive or dream of more next year in the special 1b (8 teams) series.

Season 2023/24

SV Babberich

League Table - I had high hopes for a top half finish, but this league proved to be a big step up and we finished around mid table.

League Fixtures 1 & 2 - After a decent start, we went ten games and three months without a win.  We turned it around in the New Year, however.

Pre Season Friendlies - A mixed set of results, though I was pleased overall.

Mid Season Friendlies - Three games were arranged to help maintain fitness and to try and give the players some confidence.

Squad - A decent enough squad, though not good enough to challenge for promotion just yet.

Squad Dynamics - As good as I could expect.

Transfers In - None.

Transfers Out - Two players left after refusing to sign new deals.  As they were on non contract terms, they left on free transfers.

Youth Candidates - Not a great intake at all, with Ervin Sanches YP24E36 looking like the best of a pretty poor group.

Finances - We continue to be deeper into the red.  I am not sure how to correct this.

Key Players

Olivier van Brakel YP23B18 - The best player at the club, the young goalkeeper played well enough though he was kept very busy.

Mitchell Boeve YP23L28 - Versatile winger who had a mixed time.  He can definitely play better.

Arno ter Haar YP22B2 - The leading appearance maker for the club, the central defender was poor this year.

Tom Zandvliet YP23A17 - Centre back partner of ter Haar, he had a better campaign.

Kyran Arends YP24I41 - Striker who has only just arrived at the club via the academy and he hit the ground running.  An exciting prospect.

Next Season

A top half finish is my goal.

Nooit Gedacht - Season 2022-2023 - 8th division

Predicted: 11th

Final position: 1th and Champions

 

Again like last season we were almost the whole season in 1th position. In the second last game of the season we won and VVA lost their game. After this game we had an adcvantage of 3 points and a superior goal difference of +11. Only a loss of us and a massive win of VVA would mean that we loose the title again on the last match day. ANd we played terrible, and were lucky to lose with only 1-0. VVA won their game with 4-2, and that means that we were crowned as Champions!!! In the end we were the deserved champions, but we had less points as last year and lost more games than last year.

Youth intake: We've got a good preview, and the actual intake was very good. The only negative thing is that I didn't got my good striker, like mentioned in the preview.

Copa Libertadores Update 2029

We made big progress in the Copa Libertadores this year, making it all the way to the semi finals. We got knocked out 8-7 on aggregate against Sao Paulo. They deserved a spot in the final alot more than us, but we did miss a huge chance in stoppage time! 

We beat Gremio 2-1 in the first knockout stage, before beating Internacional 3-1 in the quarter final. Our captain Francisco Delorenzi and top scorer Leonardo Moustafa were both out with injuries for the games against Gremio and Internacional so I was impressed that we managed as strong results as we did! 

I still think we have a long way to go, as we need a bit of luck against the Brazilian teams!

Lost in the 3rd round, since I thought we can do it with a rotated squad.

TLDR; We can hang with all semi-pro teams, but not with the pro teams.

 

 

Slowly the team is gettin better.

Now we need to find the right formation.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds Season 2033/34 review

There we go! Finally eating cherries with the big boys! I think we are going to be thumped back down, but at least we will have given it a shot. Also, Fulham ran away with the league early on, and we were left to fight for the 2nd promotion spot and the playoff spots. The hardest fight was for the 2nd promotion spot against Reading and Sheffield United, but in the end we succeeded. It was a bit close though, as we had a mixed end to the season while Reading went on a winning spree and were suddenly at our heels going into the final match. We managed to win at home to Coventry int he final match though and the promotion was secure.

I will showcase one player here who has been with us for a long time now. Our captain and one of the legends of AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Bruno Costa 25e. He has been with us since VNN and is one goal short of 300 league goals. A real legend for us he is.

We are still continuing to improve the facilities, and expanding the stadium. The stadium now has a capacity of 9,931, and I've not been able to ask for further, so I don't know what will happen there. Edit: We are  building another new stadium.... with the same name as the last one. Nice...

The preview was decent, but the intake was rather poor compared to what we've had lately. Jorge 34a seems like a good talent and has some very good mental attributes for his age.

In the FA Cup we lost to West Brom in the 3rd round.

In the EFL Cup we beat AFC Wimbledon, Bournemouth and Arsenal (!) before losing to Sunderland in the 4th round.

Gutted, after 7 seasons.  Tbh, never thought I would ever progress.  My chairman was selling all my 4 star players, so had to rebuild every season.  Holidaying in Croatia now
