Recording a club best in most wins, points and goals scored in a Ligue 2 season despite being tipped to finish bottom again. Playoffs looked to be on the cards but proved a step too far in the end. We aren't in the best shape financially and had to sell a few young prospects in January and I expected a drop off in form but the guys deserve credit once again. We were well beaten by Ligue 1 Brest in the Ninth round of the French Cup Club Captain SC Julien Sere 22b was our outstanding performer and is now Sannois SG all time leading goalscorer. France u19 MC Johan Pineau 25b was the new creator in chief and is attracting interest from bigger teams. MC Brahim Amari 22d and DC Amara Sylla 21b are also two of our best talents. Expectations for next season are much the same. All in all it was a good season and we will stay in the CSL for another year. We startet off quite bad but then were able to get some lucky wins. Bai Ran actually was our Topscorer, the first time in 8 years it has not been He Sen. But also I think our squad is getting stronger, which is reflected in the progress some players made during the year. Especially Bai Ran (33A), Fu Yibing (32A), Li Yan (32B) and Zhao Wenbin (34D) become starters and contribute to the progress. This years intake preview was absolutely outstanding and it was a good intake with a few players who could be part of our future. Especially Liu Honliang looks good and I need a right winger badly. So that was nice Our finances are looking ok but at the moment we cant upgrade the facilities and I still dont know if the revenue will be better if we finish higher. I think in china alot is sponsoring and we are dead last in that regard. I think we will try and improve and with that improve our club stature. Hopefully we will be able to attract some sponsors. It would have made my fears less of an issue going forward. That being said though, I also understand why the pundits don't consider us to be that good, given that most of my first team are only really good enough to be considered Serie B players at this point. It just annoys me more and more that it feels like we're not really making that much progress in this regards and it almost feels like we're getting weaker and weaker instead. In other news. Season Details League Table - We were in a relegation fight after losing seven of our first ten games, though we recovered somewhat and qualified for the promotion play offs. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Early on we were appalling and couldn't buy a win. Some consistency followed though and all was good. Play Offs - A narrow home win in the first leg over Heracles Almelo gave me hope, but we were soundly beaten in the return leg, losing on aggregate by six goals to three. TOTO KNVB Beker - A tough draw away to giants PSV Eindhoven in the second round saw any hopes of a cup run evaporate. Pre Season Friendlies - With only three wins from our eight games, pre season was tough. Squad - The best players are continuing to improve and it is getting harder and harder to keep them. Squad Dynamics - Marvellous. Really, really marvellous. Transfers In - None. Transfers Out - No major sales though a few departed for nominal fees. The usual plethora of loans left for experience too. Youth Candidates - A very poor intake with Sem van der Heiden YP51L476 supposedly the best player. Finances - We have quite a bit of cash, which has allowed us to upgrade our facilities. Key Players Miroslav Mrkonjic YP47J410 - Not as prolific as last season, but he is still the best striker we have by some distance. Jari van Dijkhuizen YP48E421 - The defender signed a new long term deal with the club...with a minimum fee clause, which worries me somewhat. Regilio van Aken YP45A369 - Another splendid year from the goalkeeper. Her is now the highest earner at the club. Youssef Benhamou YP48D420 - Now a full Moroccan international, the right winger was exceptional throughout the season. Mostly defensively solid, letting in less than a goal per game, despite a couple of 4-0 losses along the way. Ending up in a solid 3rd spot, then making it to the play off final, in which we got completely destroyed by our welsh compatriots Wrexham. In the FA cup we had an excellent first round, beating League 2 Lincoln City 4-1 away. In the second round we lost 1-0 to League 2 Bristol Rovers. Incidentally, those two teams were the top two teams in League 2 come the end of the season, with BR first and LC second! Team performances were good, with the absolute stand out performer our new right winger Oliver Rawlings 41a. Half the world wants him now, but so far they only offer less than 100k for him, which we're obviously refusing. Darren Kift 35b is still solid in goal, but facing competition from Jude Bell 40b and Huw Symons 39h this season. Both of them were out on loan last season. Youth preview | Youth intake The intake preview looked the worst we've had for a few years, despite our recruitment upgrade. Only three players stood out: Christopher Murphy 43a, Craig Jacka 43b & João Baldé 43c. I guess the start could lie, since the likes of Oliver Rawlings 41a has developed so rapidly. As far as finances and facilities go, there was a steady increase in attendances again, and Duncan Trotter 37a got sold for € 9 mill from Bristol City, and via a sell on on a sell on we got € 725k. €1,5 mill got rapidly invested in youth facilities after that. And we're back to less than €400 k in the bank. Still no interest from the board to going pro though, and next seasons odds have us as a bit of an outsider for going up (odds of between 17.0 and 7.0 depending on when I checked). Board muppets overruled me and said yes to an offer of 155k, at least I managed to lock in 50 % of next transfer before that. Way under priced in my opinion. I reckon he's a better prospect than my previous big sales, and the went for way more than that. Annoyed, but got another right winger who I think can step up. We threatened the playoff spaces a little but settled in mid table towards the end. In the French Cup, we achieved our best finish so far, Although we are disappointed to lose to National team SO Cholet 1-0. Once again, SC Julien Sere 22b was our top goalscorer with 19. MR Yaya Toure 26e provided 8 assists in just 20 starts and one of better performers was MC Brahim Amari 22d. In terms of sheer talent, GK Mohamed Fernandez 23c is our best player but the vultures are circling. Boring as it sounds, we will have much the same expectations as next year. Season Details League Table - Whilst we were never serious title contenders, we were always in a play off spot. League Fixtures 1 & 2 - Goals galore as our strikers wrecked havoc. Our defence was a bit leaky, however. Play Offs - We never turned up. A dreadful performance at home to Thame United saw the club eliminated at the semi final stage. F. A. Cup - We made it through to the second qualifying round where we lost at home to Dorchester Town, after extra time. We won in the previous round against Long Eaton United by the extraordinary scoreline of nine goals to five. F. A. Trophy - Curzon Ashton, who play in the league above, beat us on penalties after a close match in the third qualifying round. Southern League Cup - A very disappointing defeat away to Newport Pagnell Town, after extra time, saw the club eliminated at the first hurdle, in the first round. Pre Season Friendlies - Eleven wins, one draw and just the one loss represent a successful pre season. Squad - We have a lot of quality for this level and the squad is so young, they should continue to develop. Squad Dynamics - It is rather smashing. Transfers In - None. The general play and how we fared were much better this time around so things are progressing very well. The best example of why it's so much better is simply the goal difference, last season we ended with -5 while this time we had +38! We also got 25 more points, so I guess that's a nice increase as well! Still, we were never near the eventual winners Larne, my nemisis, who ran away with things. The only team close to them were Linfield, while we were left fighting for 3rd against Glentoran. We missed out by a point, so we finished 4th. Still quite the distance ahead of Portadown and Cliftonville. It did mean we went into the European playoffs. We beat Coleraine in the semis and then Portadown in the final to reach Europe for the 2nd year in a row. It seems we are establishing ourselves as a Championship Group regular. Now, we need to push for the automatic places for Europe going forward. In the Irish Cup we beat Warrenpoint Town, Glenavon and Portadown before losing to Cliftonville in the semi final. In the NIFL Cup we beat Harland & Wolff Welders and Glenavon before losing to Larne () in the quarter final. In the County Antrim Shield we beat Harland & Wolff Welders before losing to Ards in the quarter final. We played in Europe for the first time ever and entered the Europa Conference League in the 2nd qualifying round. Here we lost narrowly to AaB of Denmark in both legs and got knocked out. Youth Looks good, but after the poor intake last time, I'm cautious. The personalities are so poor... I need some good ones! Lewis Hill 32c is not a bad player, and has a decent personality. Hopefully he can improve and help out the first team. Reserves: In the Development League they finished 2nd this time, improving a couple of places. In the Steel & Sons Cup they beat Glentoran II, Carrick Rangers, Portstewart, PSNI and Lisburn Distillery to reach the final. There they beat Donegal Celtic to win it! In the Intermediate Cup they beat Bloomfield, Fivemiletown, Cliftonville Oly, Moyola Park, Newlington Youth and Crusaders Reserves to reach the final. There we lost to Knockbreda on pens. U18: In the Academy League they finished 1st, but not as clear winners as last season. Statistics: Spoiler Italy and Montenegro added to the list. It was exciting until the very last game of the season. We could became champion, but also finish 5th. It was that close. We won our last game against Dresden (1-4), but Hamburg SV and Kaiserslautern, the other two title chasers, also won their matches. So we finished 3th, the same as last year. But this time only with 2 points behind the nr 1 and nr 2! So when HSV or Kaiserslautern didn't win their last match, we would have been promoted to the 1. Bundesliga.... Now we had to play against Werder Bremen in the playoffs. And it was a bit of the same as last year against Koln: they were just too strong for us. We lost the away match: 4-2. And at home we played only 1-1, so Werder Bremen will still play Bundesliga next season, while we need to fight for promotion again next year in 2. Bundesliga. But I am very happy with how we performed this season. Hopefully we got some more luck next season. Transfers Well, this is a bit of a strange one. We lost our best player Brkic 22b, because he accepted an offer from Gladbach. It was such a good offer that the President accepted the offer by himself. I didn't protest against it, because it is good money, especially the add. fees. But: the transfer was with an Loan Back agreement. I don't know if it is against the rules, but I kept on playing with him because it was not my decision to loan him back. And he never left the club, he will leave after this season. So I decided to keep on playing with him, also because he is my best player. If it is against the rules: then I am sorry. I will continue this save ofcourse, but then I will never do it again when something like this will happen again. We re-invested this money into our facilities, so now we have great Training- and Youth Facilities, Exceptional junior coaching and Good youth recruitment. The development of our players is going way faster then in the beginning of this save. Youth intake Again a good intake. Only two wins and tie in October and only one win and a bunch of ties in December. If it weren't for those two months, we were be comfortably in the league lead. Instead, we are duking it our with several teams for automatic promotion, playoffs or mid-table. Tranmere is trying to pull away but can't. Meanwhile, ten teams could make a legitimate claim to finishing anywhere from 2nd to 11th. We are one of those 10 teams. Accrington Stanley are just playing out the string at this point. They are just a bad team. Just got to get the offense clicking on a consistent basis and we are pushing Tranmere for the title. This defense is a rock. We've come a long way in this department only to watch the offense start to let us down. And the offense looks like it won't be getting better in what looks like our worst intakes in recent memory. Reece Dukic 33A is an automatic callup for the USA U20 team and I would not be surprised if a senior team callup is coming soon. No movement here. Joe Baitup 23D has probably topped out at 397 appearances. He's now the third choice at left-back. I could really use Stephen Lynch 30D, now on loan at Kiel, on this team. His clinical finishing is much needed. Nobody has really filled his shoes since he left. Sorry @Winski you are not allowed to play players who are loaned back if your board sells him with the clause. (This is decidedly false) Yeah was just catching up with the thread and glad to see someone reply already. Don't worry @Winski we won't make you replay the 2nd half of the season or anything, just in future if this happens you should stick the player in the reserves and not use them. I know the chairman accepted in this case but for anyone else reading the best thing to do is to try and arrange the deal for the end of the season rather than a loan back. 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
