PORTALEGRENSE (2042/43)

We went into this season as Champions and I wanted us to give a good title defence, even if we did not win it, I wanted to be in and around the top places and also to qualify for the Champions League again next season. Our early season form, was for once excellent as we started off by winning the Supertaca Candido de Oliveira with late goals winning it against Benfica 2-1, before we started the season in earnest and it was a joy to behold, the defence was stronger this season, we had Miguel Pinto in defensive midfield and everything looked a lot tighter this season. We all our games in August to immediately the top of the league and only dropped point for the first time in September away to Porto with a 1-1 draw. October produced more wins in the league as we added another 2 from 2, and in November we won our only league match as well.

December rolled around where the league normally takes shape and you can easily lose ground and we were having none it, another 5 wins had us opening a significant gap at the top of the league. In January, a draw against Familicao barely hurt us as we followed up with wins, and then another draw away to Sporting, before winning the final game of the month against Vitoria and at this point it was looking like the title was coming back to Portalegre for a second successive season.

February opened up with Porto away and we got a great away draw 1-1, before we won every game until we faced Braga away where again we got another 1-1 draw. Benfica were now emerging as the team who might be able to stop us around this time.

March went the same way with two wins, and then our first loss of the season away to Benfica to give them a slight chance to catch us but they would need us to really mess up from here. A 3-1 win followed the Benfica match at home to Braga, and despite a draw away to Estoril, the win against Alverca in April gave us our second successive league title. PORTALEGRENSE ARE CHAMPIONS OF PORTUGAL AGAIN!!! We ended the season with a win and our customary loss away at Feirense to complete the season with just two losses. A brilliant domestic achievement for us.

In the cup competitions, we fell pretty early on to Sporting in the 4th Round of the Portuguese Cup, but in the League Cup we were more successful dispatching the group fairly easily and then making it past Braga on penalties to book a final with Sporting. Unfortunately this time around after a 1-1 draw, our spot kicks failed us and Sporting lifted the trophy.

And now we come to the main event, the Champions League. At the outset we were very long odds, sitting at around 9,000-1 to according to news article before the competition starts. Our group saw us drawn against Manchester United, Lyon and Zenit St Petersburg. We had never failed to escape a group stage in all our years of European football, but this was the Champions League and I was little worried. We started the campaign in the best possible fashion as we went out to Russia and got a 2-0 win at Zenit. We then hosted Manchester United in a mad game, we led 1-0 early on but quickly fell 2-1 behind in two minutes of the first half, before we managed to restore parity just before half time. In the 2nd half we took the lead again as new boy defensive midfielder bagged us a goal and 9 minutes later Patricio put us 2 goals ahead, making it 4-2 on the night. Manchester United were not done however as Lukas Norremark pulled one back for them before just 4 minutes from time they got their equaliser through Deon Mariappa. 4-4 on the night but the scoring was not done as from the kick off, the Man Utd defence had fallen asleep and Cassama stole in to score our fifth of the night and make it 5-4 on the night and that was how it finished.

We then hosted Lyon in a game, that could all but put us through and second half goal from Patricio was the only goal of the game as we came away 1-0 winners on the night. Next up was the return fixture in France, and a win here would really put us through and somehow we managed to achieve just that as we were brilliant on the night, controlling Lyon's attacks and winning 3-1 on the night. Zenit were up next and a win would mean we would win the group as Manchester United had dropped further points after our win against them. We left it late but full back Cremona came up with the only goal of the game to assure us top spot in the group.

The final game of the group saw us face off against Manchester United at Old Trafford and this was a step too far as we lost out 4-2 on the night.

In the First Knockout Round we would draw Italian giant Inter Milan. They had annoyed me all throughout my career with their annoying bids for my players and had stolen away Barros years ago. I wanted revenge, and this would be the perfect way. We got absolutely battered in the Giuseppe Meazza but Inter didn't take all their chance and only led 1-0, Djalo got a chance late on and put it away to give us a 1-1 draw from Italy to take back to Portugal. The return leg was more even, but were the better team throughout, and we took an early lead through 17 year old and newly promoted to the first team Swiss midfielder Arthur Amsler on the 13 minute. In the second half Patricio made it 2-0 to the good, and Inter seemed shellshocked, although it ended up being a good thing that he scored a 3rd in injury time as, somehow Inter finally found their scoring boots managing to injury time goals to end the game 3-2. We had done enough getting through 4-3 on aggregate.

The Quarter Final would see us face a well known enemy in FC Porto. The first leg was in Portalegre, so it was important that we got ahead and we produced one the best performances of the season as we took Porto apart over and over again, and won 4-1. The game was actually far more even but we just seemed hit them with devastating counter attacks and the more desperate they became the more we could hurt them. The return leg has been a sore spot for me from winning positions so I was worried. Porto did take the lead in the second half through a penalty, but we shut them down well and in injury time Madrueira made sure as we got the equaliser on the night to end the game 1-1, and 5-2 on aggregate.

We were now in strange territory. I never thought we could get this far, and next up was English giant Chelsea. They also had taken a few our best players in Jacinto and Lucianto Santos, and again I wanted revenge on poaching two of my best prospects. We hosted Chelsea in the first leg and they were the better side but we managed to contain their attacks and 10 minutes from time David Cassama got the oh so important goal that put us ahead, and we hung on to win 1-0 and take a narrow lead back to Stamford Bridge. I was expecting an onslaught in London for the second leg, and boy did we get it, but dealt with them well and frustrated them as they were shooting from everywhere, but in the second half we could not hold them any longer and they took the lead through Cvetic. We at least managed to hold out until full time and we now went into extra time. The first half of extra time seemed to drifting away but then they struck again and it was the same man as Cvetic bagged his brace and we were heading out of the Champions League. In the second half of extra time it was clear we needed a goal, but there was no panicking and we just kept playing our football. Suddenly we found a bit of space and that led into a superb one touch flowing movement of the ball that ended with Rego receiving it in the box and he smashed it home to make it 2-1 and now we were heading through on the away goals rule. Chelsea tried to mount a comeback but they could not get the job and done, and somehow we had done it, we are off to play Manchester City in the Champions League. Next up is that match in text format.

We are almost ready for kick off here, the team news is that Sergio Branco who we heard early in the week would likely be out, has not travelled for the game, which is a big loss for this Portalegrense side, and added to that Fabio Rico, the young centre back who has been making a name for himself is also out injured for this one. David Cassama, we knew already would be missing out is also not here. Castro comes in for Rico, Luan is in for Branco on the right and Marco Rego, a player that is being followed by seemingly every club in Europe will start up front for the Portuguese Champions.

For Man City, there no such worries with the only doubt being Pedro, who has only featured three times this season for Premier League runners up.

This is a real mismatch in terms of honours with Man City having lifted the Champions League 3 times and lost in the final another 4 times, against Portalegrense, who won only their second Portuguese league title a few weeks ago. Will David be able to slay Goliath, Manchester City will look back on some of those lost finals in recent years and want to make sure that this one is not another one.

[1] Portalegrense have the ball in defence with Soares, he plays it forward to Assuncao who receives and plays to Patrico facing away from goal, its a one two win Amsler and he plays a throughball to Pinto who runs onto it, Man City have been caught sleeping here. Pinto fires low, the keeper gets a foot to it but it comes back to Pinto he rounds the keeper and amazingly just one minute into this game, its 1-0. PORTALEGRENSE SCORE!!!! Pinto runs away to the Portalegre fans arms outstretched. Well what a start to this match, Man City have been caught cold.

[12] Karaflat picks up the ball on the left wing and he is running with it, Assuncao is tracking him back, Karaflat uses his pace to get away from him and there could be an opportunity here. He moves into the box, he drives with the ball towards goal, Soares can't stop him, but he hits it straight at the keeper and he could not help but save that.

[29] Manchester City have given a freekick away some 25-30 metres from goal. Patricio stands over it and he looks like he is looking for the shot here. He curls it on the outside of the wall and he has the goalkeeper worried....it's hit the side netting, that was so nearly a 2nd for Portalegrense, a brilliant freekick there, just needed to curl a little bit more and it was in the bottom corner. Goal kick to Manchester City, and they really need to get into this game.

[36] Man City have a throw in and Walstra plays it to Baldi, who is tightly marked. He gives it back to Walstra who is shaping for the cross, but instead a deft ball inside to Mera. Mera picks up the ball a drives towards the box, he could shoot here but plays in Karaflat on the edge of the box and he smashes it across the keeper and that has flown into the net. GOAL FOR MANCHESTER CITY!!!!! It is being checked by VAR, not really sure for what exactly, perhaps an offside in the build-up, the referee had a short conversation there into his earpiece and the goal stands. They started slow, but it was a goal of quality, and they are back in this one and now they must surely believe that they can go one an win this one. Karaflat looks overjoyed as he turns his back to the Man City fans.

[38]  Pombo has the ball wide on the half way line. He progresses it down the wing and play a short pass to Karaflat, and he gives it back before Pombo play a majestic throughball to Zitte, who makes the perfect run and he is now in behind with ball at his feet. He shoots hard and low to the keepers right, and that is a superb low save from Baessa, showing superb wrist strength to push that round the post. He saved his team from a certain goal there and Zitte looks forlorn at that miss. He really should have put that away and Man City should be leading this one now.

[80]  Since the break neither side has created anything, it looks like they are both playing for extra time now, with Man City having overcome Atletico on penalties and Portalegrense having overcome Chelsea in extra time, both teams are proven. Urso clears a failed Portalegrense ball up the field. And wait a minute the Portalegrense defence has been caught here on the half way line and Keraflat is running onto this one. This a very dangerous move for Man City. Keraflat is running onto it and is in the clear here, he is through on Baessa. He tries to fake the keeper out before the shot, the keeper buys it, but what is this??? He has put it wide, the ball hits the side netting! That is an terrible miss from a player of his quality. If Man City don't end up lifting the trophy, they will only have themselves to blame, they should be out of sight by now, but Portalegrense still find themselves level here. Look at Keraflat he looks disgusted with himself.

[84] Baessa has the ball and he kicks it long, that ball only finds Baluta and there is a vaccuum in the midfield here. Gomez recieves the ball and he play a brilliant pass to Vaz, who controls on the edge of the box, but his speculative shot is well wide. He should have done better with that one. Another miss that Man City might regret.

[86] Man City play the ball long and Castro lets it bounce but manages to recover and clears the ball back up the field, he looked like we was caught out there a bit, but he has got it away. Madrueira receives the ball on the wing and he has space, the full back is reeling and Madrueira is driving at him. He chips a ball forward subsitute Djalo, Urso is tracking him back but Djalo has a half step on him. Djalo drives towards the goal from wide and shoots, oh my word the goalkeeper has been completely done with the low shot as he drops to his knees and the ball flies by him and finds the net. PORTALEGRENSE SCORE AND LEAD 2-1!!!!!! There are just 5 or so minutes to go and Portalegrense, who have been second best for most of the match find themselves leading the Champions League Final. Djalo can hardly believe it and he reels away to the Portalegrense fans pointing at the badge. He could have etched his name into folklore.

[90+3] It is the last throw the dice, Man City on the ball looking to play it forward, but there is not any time. The referee blows his whistle!!!! And they have done it! The team that were in the District leagues of Portugal only 23 years ago, have now ascended to the top of European football. They European Champions!!!! For Man City, questions will need to be asked, as they blew chance after chance and have ended up losing yet another European Cup final.

After relegation I have taken a long, hard look at my current players and my youth players coming through. The future is the Wide Target Man. Granted, it may not prove successful at elite level, but that is a long way from my current level. In Mickael Laurent YP1, I have a player with the potential to carry the team into promotion and then Top tier stability. 16 years old, already a consistent performer and bossing nearly all the key attributes required for the role (In my system, he receives the ball into feet far more than in the air (averages 35 passes per game and 5 Aerial Duals, thus  First Touch >Heading). For me, it bodes well that he has just received his first cap for Greece U19's.

My plan is to send the ball his way and surround him  with willing runners:

Things are looking good so far:

Club Deportivo y Social Lord Cochrane - Season 2026 (Season 5) Review - Tercera División de Chile (4th tier)

Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances

The season looked so good for such a long time. We were in the fight for promotion until the latter quarter of the season when we imploded. I mean, look at our positions:

M6q91Sa.png

We looked to really have a go at promotion, but a few injuries and then bad form ruined it for us. I haven't had much injuries, but this season really showed that we can also suffer from it at times. So we have to stay down here for another year, at least. The way things are going, I hope we can fight the same way next season, and perhaps then not fail as much at the end.

The player of the season is once again Néstor Labrín 23a. Another strong season from him, and he also provides lots in goals and assists.

O7HfZDW.png

We didn't play in any cups this season either.

Youth

piolwMg.png

Another good intake, but still lacking some in personalities.

SiCgHcv.png

Mario Quintana 26l is an interesting player, but I'm not sure how to use him best. Also, he is a midfielder, and I have loads of them...

League Stats / Transfers

9th! Left side of the league! Only 9 points behind Europe and 23 above relagation. Great rookie season on top flight. We did less good in the Cup, losing to 3rd league Garbarnia in the 2nd round, at home.
Alot of reserve players left or ware released bringing our wage budget down by about 5k/m. We managed to sell Grzybek for 100k to Croatia. And our Brazillian left to GKS Belchatow. One of our youngsters who had zeor imporvement in 2 seaosns was signed by Lazio for some reason...maybe I made a booboo letting him go. We shall find out in seaosns to come. Further we lost our assistent to Rakow during winter break. No idea why he left...to a team that relagated. Not even as Head Coach. He was replaced internally by our only coach.

We did bad in the Derbies against Legia. Losing 1-5 at home, but we did draw them away 2-2.

Only one player really performed far ahead of teh rest of teh team and it was the Zero Seaosn regen WYSZKOWSKI. Started him from game 4 in the first 11 and he stayed there. He grew from 3 stars to 5 stars at the end of the season. Scoring 15, assisting 8 in 26 games with an ave. score of 7,24. Next to GOLINSKI the only player with rating of 4 stars or more in our team. Sadly it brings alot of interest in him. I already got an offer of 700k from Slask Wroclaw in Winter. He does not want to resign...so maybe I will be forced to sell him. If I can get an offer of 2 mln or more I will have to. We need €€€€. We made around 2 mln this seaosn, but halve of it went straight into new training grounds. We do not have enough to also improve our youth. We did manage to convindce the Chairman to increase our youth coaching and recruitment. Also there are many messages that we he is willing to sell the club....so we might get a new owner.

Predicted Youth intake

Was supposted to be a Golden generation again....yet it's bad. Only Glaz with 4,5 potential...altough i'm not so sure. I think its time to change our HOYD. bad youth year. This is going to hurt. We really need midfielders, a wing back..maybe a goaly and def a striker. But midfielders are a must. I will need two in next intake or I will not even have enough players to play in 4-5 seasons :).

Interesting to get one youth player from Silesia (Opole). Otherwise still no Nigerians! :(

Hi Flair, low decisions and High Vision with v.low technical stats. I'd be loathe to consider him for further development. Labrin will remain the superior player IMHO due to his attribute distribution.

Thanks everyone for the congratulations. I have to say this was one of the toughest challenges I have ever completed. I was honestly expecting this to take another 20 or 30 years to complete. Every time we had a Champions League match I couldn't understand how we kept in the game. Even in the final, we should have lost it, they missed so many clear chances, but sometimes it just goes your way. Was stoked when we won it.

What makes it so hard is that fact that you just can't fill a gap in the team, for so long we had such a bad defence, we got battered so many times it was so frustrating, then we got a few decent defensive players and that small difference in quality was just enough to tip the balance. I wish I had taken a picture of the Attacking Efficiency chart, the only thing that changed was the actual goals conceded, it used to be amongst the worst it then became a bit better than average and that was enough.

I wish everyone else luck with the challenge, there are some great reads going on this thread, and some time in the future I might have a debrief and look at all the players and their journeys that played a path in getting Portalegrense to European Champions, I think it would be interesting.

Of course, between them there is no contest, but the level of players down here is rather bad... I mean, this is my first choice goalkeeper:

Not very good, but the best of a bad bunch.

So based on that I'm interested to see if I can take advantage of Quintana 26l somehow... Just not sure how yet.

Fair enough. He looks like a fine super sub; high agility and comparatively high dribbling with imperious teamwork. I think in any role across the front, you can chuck him on and tell him to dribble as much as possible, He should be keen to follow your directive (Teamwork) and with the low Balance he is quite likely to pick up a few soft, late penalties and/or Free Kicks.

League Table

A much better time this year, with us managing to crack into the promotion playoffs this time around. We actually looked capable of attacking and our defense was solid. For a while we were in contention for the top spot, but I knew it wouldn't last. I was just hoping to go in to the playoffs with as many points as possible.

Promotion Playoffs

1011819400_PromotionPlayoffs.thumb.png.069f74f4d5585cc3f9ca5945b600957b.png

We went on an absolutely incredible run in the playoffs, picking up 6 wins and 1 draw in the 7 games. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing, it seemed to come out of nowhere. And yet we still finished just short of promotion, with the only game we drew being against the team that finished one spot above us. If that doesn't sum up my luck with Football Manager than I don't know what does. At least with have the whole team back next year to make another run at it right?

Transfers945283844_ZarogiannisLeaving.png.b972cafed9be6736fd90d26f0604d0fd.png

Our hands down best player decided that he didn't want to renew his contract with us and would be moving on. We had an actual money transfer arranged with another club, but for who knows what reason he turned it down. I guess he decided he'd rather we get nothing for him. So much for being his favorite club I guess.

Youth Intake Preview

I love seeing a potential golden generation so I'm excited to see who comes in.

Youth Intake

This intake was a bit of a dud, current ability wise. Plenty of potential though, and some decent personalities. Most players were signed. Nobody was really worth highlighting this time around.

Progress

It isn't looking too bad for the future though. Intakes are certainly improving over time.

I have undergone a complete re-haul of the training. I found there were some very good results on Physical but not much else with my previous regime.

Top PA in current squad.

Club Deportivo y Social Lord Cochrane - Season 2027 (Season 6) Review - Tercera División de Chile (4th tier)

Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances

All hail the one true leader of Lord Cochrane, Néstor Labrín 23a!

8goij5I.png

I mean, we got promoted as champions, but he clearly stole the show! 22 goals and 21 assists in 28 games playing as a left winger is simply out of this world. At the very least out of this league, and that's were we are all headed because of him! (Nailed the segue!) We started strong, and Néstor was a big part of it as he was the entire season. So along Deportes Vallenar, we got a nice lead from the rest of the teams and eventually it was a two horse race. Towards the end we both had a solid lead to the others, but then both teams had a rough patch. Luckily, we managed to finish just above them and clinch the title and promotion.

Just after the promotion was clear, I also got this amazing message:

oJ6ympj.png

We are professional! :D

We didn't play in any cups this season either, but I think we might next season.

Youth

2027 Youth Intake
image.png.5e2c7c6f505f005407f3f85d0237b5d5.png

I expected a dip in the quality from the intakes. However we yet again have a intake with several players being assessed as high potential. The standout player is obviously S. Kildhal 27A who comes at a 4.5 current ability! It should come as no surprise that he was immediately be put into the first team. I feel like the rest aren't much to share right now. But lets go with C. Rørvik 27B who is our usual got some pace winger, and B. Aase 27C a doubled side full-back who could prove a handy utility tool in the future.

There are other new faces along side this years academy star S. Kildahl 27A who will take their first steps into the first team. This is unfortunately due to sales of midfielder M. Hussain 25A to Rosenborg for €500K, and a €140K move of M. Karlstad 25B to Brann. This means the promotion of B. Jørstad 26G a rather bizarre ball winning midfielder with 6 work rate. The second player is replaced by polish striker M. Kalinkowski 26C, a 195 CM tall yet surprisingly weak in the air striker. I also called up E. Nielsen 24D for the first team due to a former backup striker not being renewed. Towards the end of the season L. Tjelta Aas 26H a versatile defender was also put into the first team.

Obos-Ligaen 2027
image.png.c372d77fd8b8e0a009f2befdd6cb455f.png

Despite the sale of our best central midfield prospect we started the year of very well. With last year shining star K. Næverdal 26D leading the charge. However May would start to even out our form before an abysmal June with only 3 points. We bounced back in July winning 4 out 5 matches, and we looked set to keep the form in August, but August would be the start of us dropping of a cliff. From August 21st which is game week 20 we would only pick up 2 more wins and 2 draws meaning 6 losses. I contribute a big part of this massive drop in form with the board sale of K. Næverdal 26D who leaves us for Eliteserien team Viking for what I would say is only €3 00K. On top of this some of the younger players ended up getting jaded and needing rest. Despite being a very though season in fact no player finished their year in green ratings. We still managed to land a play-off spot. Like last year it was short lived as we lost our first match up versus Mjøndalen. With the loss of last years breakthrough attacker the spotlight was back on old reliable Jake Petur Martin who not only became top goalscorer but also top assister for the first time. However it didn't stop at a double-double but he would claim all 3! Despite his continuous efforts for the team surprisingly in my eyes Jake Petur Martin is no where to be seen in the legend, icons and favored personnel tab.

However a rather exciting and uplifting moment from this season was our cup run! As the info table at the bottom will show. I have had a poor history in the national cup. This year we would make it all the way to the semi-finals! For once I had a bit of luck in the draws. For example we faced cup overachievers Grorud IL in the quarter-finals a team in the 3rd tier. Turns out they were a though side, and we actually needed penalties to get past them. This semi-final appearance gives us just shy of a solid €400K prize money haul. This money on top of sales makes me hopeful that the board won't press sales in 2028 next year like they did this year.

2028 Youth Intake Preview
image.png.6cccc9feab38e048e855ea11b5b8c805.png

Looking ahead towards next years intake the promises of a central midfielder, and of course the potential golden generation are reasons for extra excitement! Looking at the squad right now long term. I hope we will get a noteworthy goalkeeper talent coming trough in the near future as Ole Martin Drevland is starting to get up there in age. He has been our undisputed number 1 for years now, but I fear he like Captain Forsberg will start declining. I have in the past spoken about the clubs poor facilities plenty of times, and I won't lie I was hoping I could maybe push an upgrade this year since we did multiple sales. However both were rejected. While I didn't expect they would accept it. I was however able to push both our junior coaching and youth recruitment up to exceptional standard. The massive contrast between these two categories versus our facilities are becoming rather laughable in my opinion.

Season 9 - 2029/30

National League North - 3rd

Season Summary

It's groundhog season!

League - to be honrst, i didn't expect too much. Two weeks before the season started this happened to our best player:-

29pennellgone.JPG.6aef16de92e6bfc9308c480aa0bcf782.JPG

To be honest, I wasn't too upset. He was far too good for us and only had one season on his contract left and didn't look close to signing a new one.

So, I decided to take a season out and retire some of the weaker, older players for youth players with high potential. I knew it would take a while for them to settle in and we'd be likely to suffer some inconsistency but I figured it would pay off a few seasons down the line as they got established. Their potential is pretty good for this level!

As it happened, they almost took us up. We were good in the league, but again suffering a little from inconsistency. We'd beat the team in 1st only to get a couple of poor results against poor teams. Again, as in previous seasons, it was drawing instead of winning that did it for us. Still, we managed to finish 3rd with a strong finish and qualify straight into the play-off semi-final. We were at home against Nantwich, an easily winnable game for us. We lost, on penalties.

30leaguetable.jpg.04d3e098b33b954a999d94b020113651.jpg

FA Cup/Trophy - Again, lost in the 4th qualifyin round to a team in the division above, in a really close game. 4th year in a row. We finally had a good run in the trophy going all the way to the quarter final. I rested most of the first team for it though as I wanted to make sure I made the play-offs and Leyton Orient duly battered us.

Players

So I went back to a 4-2-3-1 for the majority of the season, and we did really well, but I was struggling to get the AMC and AML into games so finished the season with a 4-3-3 to see if I could get a more consistent performance from the team. It worked, right up until the semi-final

30firstchoiceXI.JPG.fed329dc135608f415330c3ac27ef487.JPG

I was most pleased by Luke Heale, thrown in as first choice keeper at only 17. He was immense. Ifan Lewis is one to watch, his ability went from 2* at the start of the season to 4* at the end. But Eddie Hewitt didn't really improve at AML, despite having 4 star potential, and Max Ryan isn't going to last much longer. It should be easy to retrain Lewis as a striker, but then I won't have an AMC. So 433 allows me to play Ryan, Lewis and Boardman all up front, which might be the answer next season

Youth

Wow! i thought this new HoYD was good but I wasn't prepared for this! First, the preview, which might be the best one I've ever recieved. Green text all over the place and a golden generation promised

30youthpreview.JPG.18c854e03cedaa009360ec17f9967d6f.JPG

I was intrigued by an American midfielder and a new striker coming through.

The intake, for the level I'm at, and the relative strength of my players now, was unbelievable!

30youthintake.JPG.4e245ccca38dc5e6aba8b76f3d44a6ff.JPG

Only downside is the personalities, but that should hopefully sort itself out with a bit of discipline and squad influence.

The only downside is that my HoYD's contract is about to expire and he is asking for way more money than I can afford to resign him. So I think I'll lose him, and I'll be amazed if I'll find anyone half as good as him for next season. Ah well, he earned his money while he was here anyway.

Finances and Improvements

Still no movement, but Pennell's sale gave us an extra 100k so we're comfortable. Really, promotion is needed for the next step. I've done all I can off the pitch at this level

@TerminalPortugal Congrats!! That was a bit unexpected wasn't it; I checked this forum for the first time in a few days and you've jumped from season after season in midtable to two league titles and a CL win - super stuff! Sounds like you finally managed to hang onto a few of the promising players, and get one over the teams that have been buying them off you )))

South Shields Season 2043/44 Review - Premier League

LeagueAfter last season I sat down and revamped the tactic, going from a 433 to a 4231 and putting more focus on set pieces as well, we had a tough start with Liverpool, Man City and Spurs in 3 of our opening 4 games and City smashed us 5-0 but we were beating other sides outside of the top 4 so I stuck with it till Jan when Leeds beat us 6-1 (was only 1-0 at HT) from there I went back to 433 but using same roles and set up as the previously OK 4231. it worked as we steadied the ship, finished 5th with the 5th best defence. the issue this year has now been scoring goals. Our best striker peaked a couple seasons ago and we're struggling without him hitting 20 plus a season, we did spread the goals around this season though which was good to see.

FA Cuphad a nice run to the quarter finals where we took Spurs to the limit only losing on pens

League CupLiverpool's reserves were too good for us in the 3rd round

Transfersloans out, mainly people I want to move on with a couple I will sue next season

Squadmuch smaller one used this year as I cut the deadwood. Got 3 or 4 18 year olds next season that will be in the squad with Europe needing a bigger one and think they're ready to step up

Youth Intakea shocker really. Not happy at all here

Chris Lumdson-Hunter 44A - this was the best, might be an OK DM
Phil Carss 44B - could work as a CB but lack of pace is a worry

Season 29/30 Review

It was another tough season but a progressive season at that.

Lots of the new Youth Intakes are proving to be better than the previous which a nice sign of improvement.

We are still conceding way too many goals, I will look at this during pre-season , maybe drop the defensive line back a little and put regroup on.

Goalscoring is much more spread even over the squad and it isn't just Pena (Original player) who is being relied on to hit the onion bag. :)

Club Deportivo y Social Lord Cochrane - Season 2028 (Season 7) Review - Segunda División Profesional de Chile (3rd tier)

Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances

Well, that was surprising. I had not expected that, but I'll take it! Looking at the teams we should not have finished top, and I think we might struggle to stay up next season. I really need to make some money soon, I need to improve the club and get in better youngsters. Néstor Labrín 23a was once again our talisman and the player of the season.

For the first time we played in a cup. In the Copa Chile we lost to Deportes Concepción in the 1st round.

Club Deportivo y Social Lord Cochrane - Season 2029 (Season 8) Review - Campeonato Juegaenlinea.com (2nd tier)

Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances

There we hit a peak! This has been a very tough season, and we were clearly the weaker side against quite a lot of the teams here. On a very positive note though, we have started to make money from the TV rights, and I have been able to improve a few things. If Deportes Recoleta hadn't had such a poor season, we could easily have been relegated back to the 3rd tier. Now we have to look to establish ourselves here at this level and keep improving the club and the future intakes.

In the Copa Chile we beat Desportes Linares before losing to Universidad de Concepción in the 2nd round.

Going into the fourth season in Greek Superleague 2. Have finally found a half decent head of youth development:

20210726103411_1.jpg.352ece2766fff4da81acda57ed579723.jpg

I take back an earlier statement where I stated the HOYD is only a small part of a larger youth set - up. That may have been the case at elite levels, but in my last three youth intakes, I found that the personality of my HOYD was transmitted to approximately 75 per cent of my intake!!! I hope this switch from my previous HOYD will aid development. I have no more patience for Unambitious players with low Determination.

League

League Stats / Transfers / Manager of the Season / Best 11  / Player of the Season

Third place and Europe qualification. Looks better than it actually was. Only 6 points more than last season, and with 57 points last seaosns in poland that would give you max 5th place. Legia was amazing this season. They ware 25 points ahead and actually won the league in game they won against us (that hurt). at that point they ware invincible but lost 2 in last 4 games. Overall great season ofcourse. Hopefully we can earn some money in Conferance.

Our strikers ware formidable and this is our core strenght. WYSZKOWSKI especially. 35 goals!, 12 assists and 7,49 average. Player of the season and ofcourse topscorer. I'm so happy he extended his contract with us  (was tough, he finally decided to do so in December, otherwise he was free to walk). We did have to give him a max fee  of 2,1 mln. That was more or less teh amount of money I was asking for him anyway. Altough that was last season. He did stagnate to develop in 2nd halve of the year so it could be he's at max potential or he just had a slow down. Either way I would be sad to lose him.

The other two strikers really imporved though and had a brilliant seaosn too. Both HALUCH and STREJLAU went from 2 stars to 4 stars players. Especially for Haluch that was  brilliant growth as this was his rookie season. Strejlau won the fight for first 11 from Frygier, who is now unsetteled so I might need to sell him. Last but not least, Great season for our goaly ROJEK. He also managed to imporve a star despite being 25 years old. I though he was at max already. Other players worth mentioning are BOGUSKI and STURUA (our only foreign regen). They did well in their rookie seaosn and kept their 1st team spots. PAZIO is getting old so he might still have a seasonor 2 in him, but a  replacement LB is necessery. Our midfield is getting old...and is just not good enough to compete at higher level. They are holding us back, and as I do not have any youngsters to make a step up...I will have to retrain a few of them.

Season stats

U4nUxNI.png

Game of the season

Most awesome game I had in FM21 so far happened this year, a 7-6 win from Wisla Krakow in League.

We started losing 0-1 in 3rd minute and came back 2-1 with 24 minutes just for them to make 2-2 and 2-3 just before the break. I though we ware gonners shortly after the break when they scored 2-4. But somehow we managed to come back 4-4 for them to score a lucky 4-5. We went all in and made 5-5 within a minute!. The all attack didn't pay off as they made 5-6 in 82 minute...and I though we lost yet again..there was no coming back from that right? There was...I left the all attack...and we managed to equalise in 90th min and actually to take the points in 96th min! when STREJLAU scored 7-6.

If this was a real life game I would have lost it.

HOYD

As announced last update, contract with our former HOYD OLCZAK was not extended and I went in for a hunt for a replacement. I really could not find anything decent in Poland, that wante dto join us. So I went with an ex-Welsh International Sam VOKES.
Decent stats and Fairly Prof! Young...so maybe he will improve.

And it payed off I think. The intake was already better than last year. I signed all from GRZYBOWSKI up.

MAJEWSKI is the most promising. Sadly yet another striker (a field we are kinda well covered in). Dude has great potential (according to VOKES)  but does not really excel in anything. Ohh yeah one thing...Dude is a GIANT! 1m96 at age 16. Let's see if he will grow above 2m!.

Nothing really shocking. I'm hoping we can grow in reputation to get some affiliate so we can have foriegn youth intakes.

Hi there,

I've had three GG's on the bounce but am not holding up too much hope long term. I too am in the Greek Superleague 2 and have a very poor squad; I feel the GG's are more indicative of the the wekaness of my current players than any 'superstar' candidates in the youth intake. I HOPE I am wrong.

Yeah very unexpected, the group stage gave me a little bit of hope, but I was expecting to be swept aside eventually. We were pretty lucky in every tie, maybe apart from Porto, cause we beat them handily, but Chelsea were a few mins away from putting us out. Man City in the final should have beaten us easily. I think the key was getting one or two players in defence that were a little decent and it suddenly made us a lot more competent as complete team. We always had the attacking talent for the previous few seasons, it was just that little difference we needed. Having said that it would not have surprised me if it had taken another 30 years to win the league, it's not like Portuguese teams win the Champions League all the time.

Yep, thats right.

A GG means thats your intake will got some better player (potential), then your already have in your team.

So once you are in the top div and cant really upgrade your intakes, a GG gets more rare.

Welp! That was a quick stop. I got relegated with 7 games remaining after winning only 3 matches all season, and the board decided to fire me... So much for Chile....

2028 Youth Intake
image.png.0d0fc94e5b7006398bed5940409e82a5.png

It's the most wonderful time of the year. First up let's talk about top prospect Owain Jones 28A our Welsh workhorse. His physicals leaves a bit to be desired for his play style, but at 15 his physicals has plenty of room to grow. However his mental makeup is quite solid so I have hopes for him. Moving on we got P-C. Liabø28B who is a playmaker type of midfielder however is athleticism is a worry, but with good mental growth this man can safely pull the strings. While the intake promises high potential I am somewhat reserved about the quality. We will finish off with our usual winger talent in E. Settem 28C a left sided player who I feel like we get every year.

Tactic and youth promotions

Let's talk about the first team and tactics for a bit. I decided to rework the tactic to get a hold of the ball a bit more. With Midtun 24A and Næverdal 26C we had strikers with good pace that got in behind. These are gone and we are lacking in that aspect now. So I decided to restructure into a more typical ball working pressing system. I also decided to define the roles a bit more now that the level is going up. Now at the end of last season we let go of a couple of players including Captain Forsberg, and on top of that Wahl 26A our starting right winger was sold for €950K to Lørenskog talent lovers Rosenborg. This meant youth players getting moved up the ranks to fill in. For starters this years two midfield prospects Liabø 28B and Owain Jones 28A both go straight into the team. Soler 24B sees a return to the first team squad and Hjelkerud 25F being moved up to give the flanks more cover. Lastly Plakanis 25I came up to aid my strikers as he has a bit of pace on him.

We started the year off according to plan facing some of the weaker sides or teams we have good records against. Jake Petur Martin as per usual was a strong source of all good. After a bit of up and down among the teams leading the charge we finally took first place in gamewek 8. I didn't expect to hold onto this spot as we now were facing stronger teams. However we kept winning helped by Plakanis 25I joining in, and becoming a leading player for us. A player I didn't expect much from originally, but has improved very well. We went 10 games unbeaten, and looking into the second half of the season a promotion was on the cards. But first we had to avoid a summer window raid. We ended up selling our starting left-back Meyer 26B to Molde for a very good fee €500K. However as the numbers will show Meyer 26B was never a source of much good. I shuffled out Tjelta Aas 26H onto the left-back, and we didn't notice much difference. Now towards the end of season we normally drop some form and it happened again. In the last 5 matches we went 1-2-2 but it wasn't enough for main chasers Haugesund and Bryne to catch us. Meaning we finally are going to the top tier of Norway Eliteserien! I am both shocked and terrified but damn it! It feels great to finally go up from the Obos.

Looking back on the year we couldn't have made it without the always present Jake Petur Martin scoring 16 goals, and that's while playing both striker and both wings roles across the season. Assist wise the bigger more physical striker M. Kalinkowski 26C claims with his 10 assists which is the same amount he scored as well. While he played less matches he deserves it! Plakanis 25I took everyone by surprise scoring 13 goals and assisting twice in 17(1) matches granting him 7.19 average ratings, and the award for breakthrough player of the season in the league. Also a shoutout to our other real player still playing every week goalie Ole Martin Drevland who held 7.01 across the year. My hopes of survival got a little boost thanks to right-back Ranger 22A having a positive chat with star defender Kildahl 27A.

2029 Intake Preview

Going into next year anything. Just anyone that can help us avoid relegation is wanted. I like the promise of centre-backs as we are thin in this area granted the negative line might cancel it out. As per usual a winger is mentioned, but the fact it's doubled down and on the right side makes me excited! Wahl 26A was a good player who was the last promised right winger that c aught the eye. Getting a successor in that place so quickly could turn out wonderful. However I would be lying if I didn't say I am looking more forward to the future intakes if we keep Eliteserien football. Now I normally end my update here. But considering his contributions.

The release of a favorite

This year we say goodbye to someone that I held highly. Jake Petur Martin was the player that put this Lørenskog IF team on his back year after year. I mean after all in 7 seasons he was my top goalscorer in 6 of them. Even when we started to get prospects that needed the play time up top. I could still get performances from Jake Petur Martin out on the either side of the wings, and he would still be leading performer for the team. Of course ideally I would have kept him. But the reality is when we sold our better prospects Jake Petur Martin was someone who took issues with it. It sucks that in the end this drove him to deny contract extension. Especially since I would have loved to bring him with me trough all 3 tiers, and knowing his last season was the promotion stings a little extra.

ah, that sucks! you'd have thought they'd have given you a chance to get back up. Impatient boards are the bane of this challenge!

Padders is a legend! If I'm having a tough season or two I just think 'What would Padders do?" and keep on grinding away! I aspire to the dedication he shows to his saves!

Yeah, a bit too much ambition from them compared to what we got in from the youth intakes. The promotion happened too soon, and they got greedy I think.

Been viewing this topic for a while now and always found it interesting. Finally taking a shot at it in China.

According to FM the club was founded in 2021 but through a quick google their name is coming up as Shaoxing Keqiao Yuejia F.C. Company that currently holds them has changed the name on multiple occasions since 1996. Also went for a female manager, why not?

I had great success with them in this challenge (didn't post as I didn't follow all rules) - the bottom two strikers are great and still performed in the top league for me. I converted Li Xiang to a left midfielder and he still scored.
