Damn, it must have just sold out as it didn't show as out of stock when I linked it!

https://www.box.co.uk/82S900YQUK-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Gaming-3-Intel-Core-i5-8G_4415151.html here's a good alternative.

Hi Kev!

The original you recommended is now back in stock - https://www.currys.co.uk/products/lenovo-ideapad-gaming-3-15.6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-rtx-3050-512-gb-ssd-10249077.html :)

I have found something that I think might be worth a bit extra though... If you're around, do you mind if I run a link past you, for your views on a pound-for-pound basis? Thank you!

If you're happy to pay the extra, I'd say it's worth it.  Better CPU, twice the RAM and twice the SSD storage.

Hi all,

looking to get a laptop for FM24 and beyond, obviously requirements for future versions are unknown. I’ll literally be using the laptop for FM and occasional internet browsing. Doesn’t need to be new can be refurbished. Ideally don’t want to spend more than 400 as it is only for FM.

had a look online and seen this. A dell would be ideal as it would fit in with my current wfh set up onto monitor etc.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Latitude-5300-Touchscreen-Windows/dp/B0CB4NKJX3/ref=asc_df_B0CB4NKJX3/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=658783283023&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18325618671961650646&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9180675&hvtargid=pla-2195058858136&psc=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgNG8n8OOggMV1MXtCh2DXQPMEAQYASABEgLtK_D_BwE

would this one be worthwhile or is there others out there on Amazon or other websites?

This would be better: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/products/dell-laptop-vostro-15-3510-11th-generation-core-i5-16gb-ram-256gb-ssd-windows-11-pro-15-6-fhd-screen

Much newer CPU, which scores higher on the benchmark sites.  Also has a much better iGPU, so you'll have more chance of getting 3D working smoothly beyond FM24.:

Hi Guys

Is there much difference between these laptops? I am looking for one that will run the next couple of years games if possible.  If there are many others out there you can recommend for around roughly the same value it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The 3050 one is more than £50 better. I'd check if it can be upgraded to 16gb of RAM though as that may well be a requirement next year

Honestly, both of these are poor value. They are both several years old and it's quite possible that the integrated graphics will be insufficient for FM25. You can get a modern i5 tower from Dell for about £500 which would be a much better experience. I actually think though the best value for desktop prebuilt at the moment is in mini PCs like this one: https://store.minisforum.uk/collections/amd-®-ryzen-®/products/minisforum-um773-lite?variant=44187602714902

Hi,

Been reading through these posts over last month or so. I'm looking for a new laptop for FM24, appreciate specs for FM25 haven't been released but common advice looks to be dedicated graphics card so would like to follow that route. Budget is around £600 can push to £700 if its going provide future proofing and improve game speed. Usually run 6ish leagues, large database for journeyman career.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at a loss.

Hi,

Want to start playing FM again after a long hiatus. Do I need to buy a new laptop or can I use my old one?  https://www.newegg.com/acer-swift-5-sf514-51-54t8-mainstream/p/1TS-000X-00NG0

FM24 will definitely be playable on that.  It won't manage the 3D graphics on max settings though, so you will probably need to use lower graphical presets.

FM25 will see increased system requirements when it comes out next year so you may need to upgrade then.

Thanks for the quick reply. Not so concerned about the 3D graphics. Cant wait for the release!

Hello there,

I'm considering upgrading the CPU of my current PC to increase the processing speed of FM24. Pretty happy with my PC overall (Specs below), but processing speed on FM sometimes feels a little slow... Mind you, my DB setups tend to be quite large at around 30 active leagues, with saves usually lasting 15-25 seasons in-game...:ackter:Currently using the AMD Ryzen 2700X and am curious if the Ryzen 7 5800x3D could be considered a worthwile upgrade? As per my definition, it would be a "worthwile upgrade" if I could expect a significant increase in processing speeds on FM24 (compared to the processing speed with the 2700X on FM24). Please also consider that changing anything apart from the CPU is a no-go (for now), so I'm "stuck" with the AM4-socket. Lastly, at least nowadays, most of the spare time I spent in front of my PC is dedicated to FM, so other games/applications don't really need to be considered. The 2700X deals with these apps just fine, too.

Maybe as a follow up question: Are there any tips/tricks how to get the most out of FM when using a Ryzen CPU (like the 2700X)?

PC Specs:

RAM: 48GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4-3000 CL15 (2x8GB, 2x16GB)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700X

GPU: Asus Geforce GTX 1070 OC ROG Sttrix 8GB Gaming

Mainboard: ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING

PSU: 700W be quiet! Pure Power 11 CM Modular 80+ Gold

Looking forward to any feedback/opinions!

How have you found the stability of the system on AM4? I'm seriously considering going with the 7800X3D and AM5 but now worried after reading about the many reports of slow boot times, BSOD, failing to boot etc.

Is there? I was contemplating trying an AMD after Intel 14th gen apparently being rubbish.  I'm not sure what to do now.

I was pretty much set on AMD this time but was told about these issues from someone who owned an AM5 system then returned it for an Intel. I then googled it and yeah, there seems to be many reports of bugs not being fully ironed out yet. I am now considering Intel again but as you say the 14th gen isn't much of an upgrade. The AMD system I'm looking at is cheaper by over £400 as well, so it's tempting.

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-7-5800X3D-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-2700X/m1817839vs3958

That tells me there's definitely a decent uplift in power from the 2700X to the 5800X3D.

I'd suggest looking here to see if the two CPUs have been benchmarked specifically for FM to get an idea how much quicker the newer one may be:

Funnily enough, I've literally taken delivery of a laptop with a similar CPU (11th gen i5 rather than i7, but the iGPU should be the same) in it today.  I got it for music production rather than FM, but I'm downloading FM24 on it and I'll let you know how I find it.

Ok, I just loaded up a match.  It was fine on medium settings for me.  Anything above that seemed a bit choppy, but not unplayable.  Medium gave a decent framerate though.

It works just fine! The very few stability issues I've had over the past five years were all caused by human error (fiddling around with stuff, etc), not by the system itself.

Hello all. I'm in the market for a new laptop and would obviously like it to run FM as well as possible for the budget. Would anyone have any suggestions for a roughly £500 budget? Or just what specs to avoid, I don't mind doing my own searches. Been looking at the below... any good?

Hey Neil, both will run FM24 very well. Neither have a discrete GPU, but the onboard graphics of 12th and 13th gen Intel processors are much improved from past offerings. Without knowing the recommended specs for FM25 I can't say for sure if this will run it without problems, but my guess is that it will be fine with some of the graphical settings turned down. The more expensive one has a generation newer CPU, but I'm not sure the extra cost is justified with the extra performance you'd get. Personally I'd go for the 12th gen one which is £599

This is slightly overkill for FM, but it's great value. I know it's a bit more than your budget, but I think most options you'd find for less than £1000 would be significantly inferior.

This isn't a bad laptop and I'm sure it would run FM24 just fine, but it's a couple of years old and that looks like the price it would have launched at. There are surely better options. If you don't mind installing Windows yourself you might try:

Hello!

First of all, thank you for your help and advice you give!

budget is £300 or so, I know, not much!

would be running on 3d, medium database.

outside of that would be also playing palia. I’ve attached a picture of the system requirements for this game.

happy for any refurbed models or any mini pcs etc as I’ve got a monitor spare I could use.

Great thanks! Ordered. Should be able to play the beta when this arrives! Sat watching the thread for a week, excitedly downloaded it and then realised I was still in Windows 7.

I can't find a laptop or mini PC which meets the GPU requirements for Palia at £300.  Looks like you really need a dedicated graphics card to be guaranteed to run it.

What I will say is that this has the same spec as my Daughter uses to play Genshin Impact which has similar system requirements.

This also doesn't meet the minimum specs but still runs the game, albeit the frame rate does drop at times: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/products/hp-laptop-14s-dq2512na-11th-generation-core-i5-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-14-fhd-screen?_pos=2&_fid=a1e5c204d&_ss=c

So, this may run Palia, but no guarantees.  If you do want to guarantee then it will require a larger budget, such as for this: https://www.laptopstation.co.uk/products/asus-tuf-fx506lh-h-series-core-i5-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-nvidia-gtx-1650-15-6-fhd-screen-gaming-laptop

Hey guys

I'm a complete noob when it comes to PCs. I have had a Mac for the last 10 years but have just had a Gaming PC built for me by Cube. Gigabyte760M motherboard ; G-Force 4060 graphics ; Intel I7-12700F processor and 16GB DDR4 RAM.

Stupidly, to try to save money to convince my wife to let me buy it, I left off having Windows pre-installed. Its a lesson I've learned and a mistake I won't make again.

It looked so easy. I've got a new, clean 32gb USB. I have downloaded the latest version of Windows 11 Home onto my Macbook. And I have my license key.

I have used both UUByte and Terminal to try to create a bootable version of the USB. With Terminal, it always ends up just not being bootable and not recognised. But with UUByte it seems to work and gets me through to the Windows Setup screens. But this is where things go wrong.

If I tell UUByte to burn the USB media as a BIOS partition, I always get an error saying "Windows cannot open the required file C:\Sources\install.swm

And if I tell UUByte to burn the USE media as a UEFI partition, I get an error saying "A media driver on your device is missing..."

Any ideas? Other than call the place I bought it from tomorrow and grovel and hope they'll fix it for me?

The 4800h version. The iGPU is superior to the GTX660 but worse than the 1060. It's quite old (hence the discount), but it kills the CPU requirement and should run this well on low graphical settings.

Edit: Lol I take this back. I had another look at the benchmarking site and I was mistaken. The iGPU is worse than the 660. Probably this is still the best you're likely to find for this money and it would be fine for FM24, but it doesn't meet the specs you have there

To me that sounds like some of your hardware is missing required drivers, but I've never had to install Windows myself so I'm not sure.

I'd suggest posting here as I've found the people here really helpful when it comes to technical issues: https://www.cybertechhelp.com/
