Hey mate, would this be good for playing the game at a decent pace? I would probably play the matches in the 2d engine by the way.

The base clock speed is below the SI recommendation, so you may have issues.

I'd suggest this if you don't mind having a smaller capacity SSD: https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15s-eq1510sa-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10207935-pdt.html

I’m looking to for a new laptop to replace my Lenovo Z50, which has been an excellent machine for the past 7-8 years. My Z50 has an i7-4510U processor and a GeForce GT840m graphics card. It has 8gb RAM and 1TB+8gb SSHD. I think I payed around £550 for it when I bought it new from John Lewis.
It’s played various FM games and the 3D match engine well though out its life, but I think it’s coming towards the end now. I must say I’ve been really impressed that it’s lasted this long!

Looking at laptops now, the relative costs seem to have gone up hugely. A machine with an i7 processor and 1TB Drive seem at least double what I paid 7-8 years ago. There also seems to be a general shortage of laptops, with a lot showing as ‘sold out’.

Any ideas on a machine as reliable and long-lasting as my Z50? I’ll be using it for working from home (I’m a teacher remote teaching) and for FM21.

Budget would be up to around £800.

Thanks in advance.

Either of these are very good for the money.  Only difference in terms of spec is the size.

Thank you. I’ve been told that AMD processors, although as good performance wise as intel these days, are not as reliable or durable as they run a lot hotter than intel?

AMD processors generally do run warmer than Intel processors but Intel processors can get hotter. AMD's CPU temperatures are more or less consistent while Intel CPU temps can vary from system to system.

Hmm, ok. How about these two specs? This is on a customised Lenovo IdeaPad - £800

Intel Core i7-1165G7 Processor (2.80GHz, up to 4.70GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 12MB Cache)

16GB DDR4 3200MHz

512GB Solid State Drive

NVIDIA GeForce MX450 2GB GDDR6 64bits

And this is on a Lenovo ThinkBook - £730

Hello,

I am hoping to receive support in purchasing a laptop so I can finally upgrade from Football Manager 2016 to the latest iteration of the game.

I have a budget, I guess, of a maximum of £550 with the main purpose of the laptop being to play Football Manager and to run a Plex Media Server. Aside from that, it will be used for very little else. I am just desperate to get back playing Football Manager.

I did have the laptop below recommended to me but having little technical knowledge, I have no clue if it is a worthy purchase or not.

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-zenbook-ux425ja-14-laptop-intel-core-i3-256-gb-ssd-grey-10208138-pdt.html

If anyone can provide help, that would be great and I can provide any further information if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

You best choice is the 4600H as already mentioned

The graphics cards in those are also weaker

*edit* there isn't a huge difference - I'm just comparing so you can make up your mind.

From the original post:

We don't know:
We cannot test every computer/laptop, we only speak about the specs and if it's suitable for Football Manager and if it's within your budget. There is no way to know for certain how many Leagues/Divisions/Database size or how fast the game will progress. One user may be happy with the game progressing a week in 20 minutes, for others that may be too slow, so It's all subjective.

Both links are the same (Huawei laptop).  And I wouldn't go for that - it's massively overpriced in my opinion and you can get better for the same or less money.

Also, to give suitable advice you need to advise what sort of expectations you have for the 3D graphics settings and what else you plan to do with the laptop, especially if it involves other games,

Nope.

I wouldn't recommend either.  Both have base clock speeds below the SI recommendation, so you'd be taking a risk with either.

Are you set on the idea of buying from Amazon, or are you happy to consider other retailers?  If you're happy to look elsewhere, this will give you a better experience with FM than either of the two you linked and you'll save yourself a fair chunk of cash.  The SSD is smaller, but seeing as you said you basically only want it for FM that shouldn't cause you an issue.  https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15s-eq1510sa-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10207935-pdt.html

OK, but you didn't answer whether you were open at looking at other retailers? I'd honestly be wary of anywhere that sells a computer without giving specs of the machine as 1 model can have multiple hardware configurations so you don't necessarily know what you're getting.

It might just edge it - but it's basically on par. It's very close to call.

@kevhamster don't want to step on your toes here, you were originally on this - what do you think?

From notebookcheck

https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-1135G7-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-4500U/m1286124vsm1052299 also scores the Ryzen slightly higher overall, but the Intel seems to score better in the single and dual core tests.

Either way, they've very close and I'd say they're largely on a par with each other taking everything into account.

Hi

Budget i don't particularly have as would be looking to buy through currys most likely so would take finance.  Just want one thats good enough for fm, want good 3d graphics and processing for 3/4 nations, as like I said wouldn't be using for anything else to be honest.

So I have seen great ones etc but just don't want to get a machine that I don't require the great power etc for my single use.

This is the cheapest I can find - and typically what's recommended spec wise.

If you want to go all out - and get a monster of computer that will handle almost anything let me know.

I'm just going by the specs and lowest price.

How much can you spend monthly on it?

Hi guys,

Long-term FM player but have extremely limited knowledge on computers and their operation capacity when it comes to FM as I have coped with my Macbook Air for the last 6 years, so please excuse my naivety!

I want to be able to load level 11/12 of the English pyramid and for it to run as smooth as possible. There are around 70,000 - 80,000 players in the database.

After a bit of my own research this is what I have come up with:

Acer Predator Helios 300 Gaming Laptop PC, 15.6 inch Full HD 144Hz 3ms IPS Display, Intel i7-9750H, GTX 1660 Ti 6GB, 16GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, American English Backlit Keyboard

Could anyone let me know if this will be perfect for what I desire in terms of FM?

Thanks in advance!

It'll certainly do the job and the i7-9750H ranks quite highly, so it's very capable.

One thing you've not done is provide a link or a price, so it's very hard to say whether you're getting the best deal you can.

It would help if you could tell us where you are and ideally provide some links for some of the larger electronic retailers in your country, so we can take a look and see if anything is available for you.

I've got a new gaming laptop arriving this week, and hoping it will be great for FM (as well as some other games such as Red Dead etc...)

Hoping with the below specs i can run as many leagues as possible (hopefully all) with a high star rating:

Processor: i7 10750H (10th Gen)

Memory: 16GB RAM

Storage: 1TB SSD (with 4TB External SSD)

Graphics: RTX2060

Take the star ratings with a liberal pinch of salt - it's a flawed system to be honest.

You have a very capable processor there.  In terms of other games, the 2060 will handle any game currently out there.  One piece of advice I would have though is if you're using ray tracing, that is very demanding and will significantly lower the frame rate.  So if you find a game isn't running as well as you'd expect, take a look and see if ray tracing is on and if it is, either lower the setting or turn it off.  And also keep your Nvidia drivers up to date.

For context, I have a 1660 Super in my PC, which is the same level card of the previous generation, and it will handle most games at high settings with a solid 60FPS, and for the few titles where it doesn't I'm generally able to lock it to 30.

If you want an idea of what kind of performance to expect, take a look at the Benchmarking thread.  There are some results with the i7-10750H, so that will tell you what kind of performance you'd be looking at.

Looking at that thread, Benchmark B looks exactly like what i want really, and could even go C if i'm hardcore enough.

Can't wait for it to arrive now

One thing I would say is that the benchmark saves are one season in.  Don't forget that the game may well get slower as it progresses due to all the extra data it saves along the way so if you're thinking of a long-term save you may want to dial it back just a little to ensure long-term viability!

Thanks, went with Curry's and cancelled my HP order.

For anybody reading this thread be wary or patient when ordering directly from HP. Ordered from them two weeks ago, then after no delivery phoned them to be told that the item was out of stock and won't be available in their warehouse again until Jan 27th at the earliest, ordered on 13th. Maybe a 'first world problem' but they shouldn't be allowing you to purchase an item they don't have, and should at the very least inform you of its availability.

Curry's next day delivery seems a sure bet in comparison.

Thanks for the heads up - they should definitely be more transparent on the stock front!

I have ordered direct from HP once when getting a laptop for my daughter and that was quick in fairness, but at least we know now that the stock situation isn't necessarily clear on the HP store.

Hi,

Will FMT21 run in the PC:

https://www.amazon.com/TECLAST-F5-Touchscreen-Convertible-1920x1080P/dp/B083BM815K

I don't need good 3d graphics. Just load 5 or 6 nations and play well in 2D mode.

Nope, steer clear of that.  Will run very poorly with a CPU like that.

What's your budget (and do you need touchscreen, or was it just that this model happened to have it?).  Also, as the currency in that isn't in GBP I'm guessing you're from outside the UK, so if you can give some examples of electronics retailers where you are I can take a look to try and see if there's a good deal for you.

i was looking for a touchscreen solution.

Currently i play the android version of FMT, so i was trying to go for the PC version but playing i a touchscreen.

Saw this cheap PC, and in theory could be a good solution for me. But, if the specs are that bad, i'll stay away from it.

Thnks for the advice!

Looking for a new laptop for approximately £700.

I had recently purchased the system below, however it was faulty and Box are unable to replace.

HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec1007na
AMD Ryzen 5 4600H Hexa Core Processor | 15.6" Full HD IPS Screen | Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit | 8GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM | 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD | Dedicated GeForce GTX 1650 4GB Graphics |

I'm looking for something comparable to this system. I'd ideally like to avoid Box as their aftersales has been poor, however willing to purchase through them again if they're offering a significantly better deal than everywhere else.
