Budget: £600 could maybe stretch to £700 max

Laptop Use: FM, Youtube & Writing Football Reports Including using saved footage

FM: Usually Run Medium Database & Would Like To Run Around 20 Leagues comfortably

If this is not realistic let me know of a laptop that would be better as i could always save up for a slightly better one

Thanks

If you're not planning on playing other games, I'd go for this: https://www.box.co.uk/1E6Z9EAABU-HP-14s-fq0000na_2956544.html

If you think you may play other games, I'd go for this: https://ao.com/product/81lk01pruk-lenovo-ideapad-l34015irh-laptop-black-81658-251.aspx

The CPU's score quite closely on the benchmarking sites, but the second one also has a dedicated graphics card, so will give more flexibility for gaming.  The integrated graphics on the first one though will be able to handle FM's 3D graphics at medium settings, possibly higher.

Can confirm the high quality of the M1 MacBook Air for FM21 - runs like an absolute dream. This is the 8GB RAM, 256GB storage version.

It hasn't heated up once and I use an 85k player database with quite a few leagues loaded. Great stuff.

Hi

Please can you advise if you think this is a good purchase for FM and games. I need to buy from Argos as I have credit with them.

HP Pavilion 15.6in Ryzen 5 8GB 256GB GTX1050 Gaming Laptop https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8440710

Thanks

It largely depends what games you're thinking of.  For FM, it's absolutely fine.  If you're thinking also playing modern AAA games, the storage space and graphics card may not quite be what you need.

Hi there

Budget is about £800 basically good enough to play fm with about 10 leagues. Other use will be films and watching football via Netflix sky go ect

These 2 laptops are the ones I have been looking at which were at £800 but went up in price the day before payday. Needs to be 14 inch or less and also work with a think pad gen2 dock via USB type c

Is there any other laptop you can recommend or should I just wait it out until one of these reduces in price.

My 5-year old desktop PC has trouble running FM21. Well, trouble running it smoothly as advancing days is getting slower and slower (even with just England all tiers loaded). So I'm looking at upgrading. I usually play FM together with some light web browsing and excel :)

Current system :

i5-4670K on Asus Z-97 Pro Gamer MB with Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH Edition cooler

Crucial Ballistix Tactical BLT2C8G3D1608ET3LX0CEU : 16Gb @ 1600

GPU's = AMD R9 290 Gigabyte GV-R929OC-4GD & AMD R9 290 Sapphire 4Gb : while in theory they work in Crossfire almost no games support it (except Elite: Dangerous) . I might consider selling 1 GPU together with the old MB & CPU to have a decent offer and might get more cash for it.

Fractal Design R4 case and of course some SSD and HDD

PSU = EVGA Supernova 750 G2 (which is seriously overkill for current system even with the 2 GPU's)

Only upgrading the CPU with keeping current mobo would lead to the i7-4790K as fastest option, but apparently only 7% speed difference & at a price tag similar to current i7 prices.

I was wondering if it would be possible to just upgrade the CPU and Mobo?

Thanks for the reply. How does it compare to this one?

https://www.box.co.uk/9S7-16W112-882-MSI-GF65-Thin_3188838.html

The ghz is higher on this one, yet the CPU on the HP ranks higher on the benchmark website.

A higher clock speed does not necessarily equate to higher performance.

The first one is better, but it's quite close.

Hi guys

I'm looking to buy a pc to play fm21 as well as a few other games. A friend of mine put this together, but just wanted to get a second opinion as to if this would run FM well.

Cheers guys

It'll run FM fine. I'd be more interested in what other games you're thinking of as FM tends to be less demanding to run than many other games.

I’m ordering a new pc as my laptop can no longer handle playing the game at a decent level. I have no idea about pc’s but had someone offer to help build one for me.

He needs to know what: https://mobdro.bio/ https://kodi.bio/

RAM needed

Graphics card type

SSD Capacity

Hard Drive

Any help will be much appreciated as I don’t have a clue about these things and Football manager will be the only game I’ll play on the PC.

RAM: 8GB is fine.

Graphics card: any current graphics card will be fine, so no need to go overboard here. Ryzen APUs with integrated graphics will also be fine.  Given current graphics card stock levels and prices, you may want to just look at an integrated graphics option for the time being and upgrading to a dedicated card once prices become sensible again.

CPU: SI suggest a min clock speed of 1.8GHz. If FM is the only game you're going to play, this is where you're going to want to spend out most. Basically, the stronger the better.

SSD/HDD: 256GB will be fine for FM alone.  FM itself sees no real gains from an SSD over a HDD, but you'll still want an SSD for speed of overall PC performance.

Yes, that would be possible. The graphics card you have is absolutely fine for FM so no real need to change that unless you're playing other games too.

You'll probably want to look at getting faster RAM sticks too, just to get the maximum system performance too.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get a new laptop for fm21, I don't know much about computer specs but after reading your guide I have found some decent options.

Not looking to spend more than £500 if possible, I'd love it if you could take a look at the laptops I've attached and let me know your thoughts. I'm also open to suggestions if you think there's any great laptops in this price range that I've missed.

ASUS M509 - GRADE A2 - Asus AMD A9-9425 8GB 256GB SSD 15.6 Inch Full HD Windows 10 Laptop - Laptops Direct

Dell Inspiron 15 3000 - Refurbished Dell Inspiron 15 3000 AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 8GB 256GB 15.6 Inch Windows 10 Laptop - Laptops Direct

Definitely Call of Duty, and maybe DayZ as well

Ok, if you're wanting to play Call of Duty, taking into account the most recent entry (Cold War), you're going to need a stronger graphics card than the 1050Ti.  The recent Call of Duty games are quite demanding if you want decent performance.

System requirements taken from here: https://www.callofduty.com/uk/en/blackopscoldwar/pc

Something like this if you're happy with medium settings, 1080p and 60fps: https://www.box.co.uk/Lenovo-Ideacentre-G5-i5-14IMB05-Gaming-T_2942419.html

Or this, if you want higher settings and more fps: https://www.box.co.uk/Cube-Haneda-HND_3064856.html?config=2335908,2472017,2725847,3029689,3453225

This is the kind of setup you're going to want from PC Specialist: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/intel-home-office-pc-II/MhFqa9pFM9/ (please note, the graphics card is currently on pre-order due to stock issues, so it won't be immediate).

Out of those, the one at Ebay has the best spec.... but info on warranty etc isn't clear and they all seem a bit overpriced to be honest.  I have a laptop with the same CPU as that Dell has, and I'm shocked they're selling a refurb model with that CPU for over £500 to be honest.

As one of them is over the £500 budget, I'm going to say if you can afford to take it up to £550, go with this: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/acer-aspire-5-a515-44-15-6-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-512-gb-ssd-black-10208163-pdt.html

Much stronger CPU than any of the three you've listed, plus it's brand new.

But if you really can't, then the one from Ebay is the one out of those three I'd choose.

Stock for anything with a graphics card seems to be an issue currently so I'd recommend buying quickly if you can.

Do you want to watch Netflix?  Yes
Do you play other games? No
Do you want to edit vidoes? No
Listen to music, spotify? Yes
Do you edit photos? No

Looking for a desktop PC. Mainly to play FM, ideally play in 3D but not gonna play other games so not too fussed about graphics in general. Play with lots of leagues/players loaded so speed is important. Budget around £600ish but could go higher at a push.

Hello,

Thanks for all your recommendations on this subject. I’ve read with interest the replies you have given and it’s clued me up slightly as to what’s what with laptops these days.

I’m hoping you can help me out too. I’m looking for a laptop purely for FM21, I’ve been out of the loop for the last 6/7 years and my current laptop is waaaaaaay too old to play this.

I’m looking at spending £500/600 on a laptop, but I need to get either from Argos or Very (I have credit there), I can’t justify to the wife spending more purely for one game. Could you help me out with this please?

Hi guys!

Been playing the full FM20 game through the Epic store on my GFs Macbook Air from 2015. Due to the heat and the fan goes crazy in some portions of the game, i've been looking for a new PC to play the Touch version of FM21.

So, here is the thing, I only have the budget (around or less than 400 pounds) to spend, so not alot of options. This laptop would be used for FM and school work mainly. I've been looking at Lenovo ideapad with an Intel Core i3 1005G1 and only 4 GB RAM and 128GB SSD. The GHz is at 1.20 minimum, but goes up to 3.40 GHz.

Im not tech savy at all, but would this laptop run FM21 Touch on lowest or possible medium settings with 2-3 leagues loaded and smallest/medium database? I dont use the 3D match engine, as I prefer the 2D classic.

Heres the laptop:

https://www.elkjop.no/product/data/barbar-pc/windows-barbar-pc/198004/lenovo-ideapad-3i-81wd00q3mx-14-barbar-pc-platinagra#ProductSpecificationTab

Cheers guys!

This spec will manage the 3D match engine - not sure about max settings, but should be good for medium at least.

That one was the only one at Argos or Very under £600 I'd truly recommend.  If you can afford slightly more (£629) - then go for this: https://www.very.co.uk/lenovo-ideapad-5--nbsp156nbspinch-full-hdnbspamd-ryzen-7nbsp8gb-ramnbsp512gb-ssdnbspoptional-microsoft-365-family-1-year/1600495815.prd

If not, then I'd go for this: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7296415

But with the difference only being £30 between them I'd definitely suggest spending the extra £30 if you can.  There's a significant jump in performance from the 3rd gen Ryzens to 4th gen.

Hello.

My laptop has had its day, I’ve tried everything but despite being above the specs my laptop is almost completely incompatible with FM. It can run it fine initially, but eventually the graphics card struggles big time- I get a lot of screens where suddenly it starts to show weird colours and crashes. It could also be as the CPU speed is just about okay, but at 1.80 it should not be constantly crashing. I really liked the look of the mini pcs, so I have been looking at them. They are slightly more expensive than a laptop, but the lack of space it takes up on my desk means it’s a very good option for me. This one caught my eye- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beelink-i3-5005U-Processor-Dissipation-Expansion/dp/B07SG9RKXC

How well do you think this could run fm? I am not expecting a top of the market speed, as long as it run without crashing a lot I’m happy enough with it. I don’t use 3D. This is my current laptop for reference-  https://outletclick.com/toshiba-satellite-c70d-b-10u

300 quid is my budget, can’t go much over that amount.

On further inspection no RAM, SSD or OS, too expensive. Looking at this too but gut feeling is telling me to steer clear of it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184653516295

It's probably as good as you'll manage on the budget, especially if you only have space for a laptop or mini PC.

It'll run the game.  Won't be very quick, but it will run.  3D graphics will almost certainly need to be on lower settings.

Interesting, I’ve been able to find this instead- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-INTEL-NUC-NUC8i5BEK-MINI-PC-KIT-8th-GEN-QUAD-CORE-i5-PROCESSOR-THUNDERBOLT/324487532279?hash=item4b8cf6cef7:g:wfkAAOSwYndgBE2Z#rwid

On further inspection no RAM, SSD or OS, too expensive. Looking at this too but gut feeling is telling me to steer clear of it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184653516295

The second one doesn't list exactly which CPU it has so impossible to fully gauge - but it is a newer gen i5 than the first one you linked so likely to be a bit better.  But I'd ask the seller the exact CPU model before committing to anything.

It's probably as good as you'll manage on the budget, especially if you only have space for a laptop or mini PC.

It'll run the game.  Won't be very quick, but it will run.  3D graphics will almost certainly need to be on lower settings.

Yep, I realised shortly afterwards that I really should double check the speed, also whether it is windows activated. I will let you know when I find out.

@kevhamster

It is a i5-7260U.

Seems to be more powerful, but notebookcheck shows it fluctuates a lot more than the i5-5257U. What do you reckon?

I'd still go for it.

There's not a massive gulf between them, but all of the benchmark sites I've visited score the i5-7260U higher.
