Hi Adam.

We can't fairly comment on how quick processing will be, as this is quite subjective and what I find acceptable may not be acceptable to you.

In terms of the spec, it certainly meets the minimum clock speed for FM21 - it is below the clock speed for FM20 and earlier, but it should certainly run the game regardless.

Should also handle the 3D match engine without issue seeing as it has a dedicated graphics card.

At the price I'm seeing on the Huawei site, there are likely to be far better value options out there.  I'd also ask if you're specifically looking for a touchscreen model, as I suspect this is one of the reasons it's priced as highly as it is.

Thanks for looking into this @kevhamster

That's fair enough, I have been playing FM since its Championship manager days, but have always been on low to mid range machines, so performances has always been below average. Im guessing that even on the OP Laptop, I would see dramatically improved performance compared to what I'm used to.

I did notice the clock speeds for 2021 had been reduced.

The touch screen is not important, just happens to be a feature of this particular laptop. The screen size is not critical either as my current machine is 17" so anywhere between 13" & 17" is fine.

I was dubious about the graphics card, as its more an entry/mid range model, however, as mentioned above, I wont be playing anything other than FM on it.

Thanks again,

Adam

If you don't mind a wait of a couple of weeks, this gives you a stronger CPU and graphics card, but still has the 1TB storage and 16GB RAM at over £100 less: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/optimusXI-15/dBXmjXVtNC/

Or this, which is stronger still and £50 less: https://www.box.co.uk/82B10063UK-Lenovo-Legion-5_3064875.html

@kevhamster No, I don’t mind a wait so that wouldn’t be an issue, I do however like the look and spec of the Lenovo Legion! Looks impressive.

Thanks very much for your help on this, I really appreciate it.

Blue screen usually mean some kind of driver issue.  My suggestion would be to ensure all your drivers are fully updated, and then restart Windows once you've updated all the drivers.

But, if it does happen again in the meantime, take a picture using your phone of the error code and then look that up, as this will give specific details of what is causing the error.  It could well be something minor and easy to fix, but if it keeps on happening then you way want to think about contacting the retailer about an exchange.

Re: anti-malware.  What you already have is fine.  That's exactly what I have on my computers as well.

Re: anti-malware.  What you already have is fine.  That's exactly what I have on my computers as well.

As the advice so far, and... I only run Windows Defender - don't get 2 anti-virus programmes running at the same time - it can cause issues.

If you do go the route of another anti-virus then turn off Windows Defender to stop them clashing.

In regards to malwarebytes, it's fine to have - and i run one occassionally.

In the meantime - all that happened was a Kernel Panic, some low level operation couldn't recover, as a precaution Windows shuts down.

It's only a sign that an error occurred, and there's probably not something fundementally wrong.

If it happens again, take the pic with your phone.

And if you only just bought the computer - you should be under warranty - so you can use that pic when dealing with an exchange

It'll run the game.  Processing won't be particularly quick, but certainly won't be awful.  Decent integrated graphics capability as well.  Probably as good as you can get for the price.

Hi Kev sorry to ask again but I found this

Nope, I'd avoid that.

Here's an alternative then.  CPU not quite as good, but still a very strong system: https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/lenovo-legion-5i-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-rtx-2060-512-gb-ssd-10219687-pdt.html

I'm in the market for a laptop for various reasons, but FM is a big one. Probably won't do much gaming besides FM, so just looking for something reliable and not overly expensive.

I don't know much about laptops, but this was the first one that caught my eye based on the limited research I did on the game.

https://www.box.co.uk/NX.VLFEK.009-Acer-Travelmate-P2-TMP214-52-NX.VLFEK.00_2892898.html

Will it run FM smoothly or does it have other issues I should know about?

Yes, it'll run the game.  However for an extra £20, this one is miles ahead: https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1E6Z9EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

Much better processor, better graphics capability so will run the 3D match engine at higher settings and twice the storage capacity.

I have the Inspiron 14 5000, how will FM21 run on it? also is there any better reccomendations purely for FM for around £500 if it can't run? Thanks in advance

No idea as you've given no info about the specs of the computer.

To give this info type "dxdiag" in the Windows search bar, and click the "run command" which comes up.

You should get a window come up which looks like this:

image.png.1b554d9aba678fae786a0aa3341fbd15.png

Click the "save all information" button and upload the .txt file that it saves from that.

Or, as an alternative you can download the demo and see how it runs.

Hi, honestly just saying Nitro 5 or Aspire 5 doesn't help much as those names cover a wide range of laptops with different specs, so unless you provide links it's hard to say whether you're getting value for money or not.

This one is an excellent deal and well within your budget: https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1E6Z9EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

Excellent processor.  Integrated graphics, but strong enough to handle FM's 3d graphics at medium settings at least.  The main downsides would be 14" screen (possibly not a downside for you) and the relatively small storage of 256GB, but if you're not downloading huge amounts of games that will likely not particularly be an issue for you.

How does this one look?

Not played FM for a few years and haven’t bothered owning a pc or laptop in that time either so bit out of touch

If you're not playing any other games, I'd go for this one instead: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8440710

Weaker graphics card than the one you linked, but will be more than enough to handle FM at max settings.  The CPU here is miles ahead though, and that's the biggest difference maker.

He mainly wants to play FM on it. They'd probably go a little higher than 500 but not by too much.

Yep, snap it up for £500 - it's the best you'll be likely to find at that price.

The one you've linked would be better for overall gaming due to the dedicated graphics card, which the HP I've linked does not have.

However, in terms of CPU power the Ryzen 5 4500U scores a little bit higher in benchmark tests than the i5-9300H does, so you will likely see slightly faster processing performance between matches on the HP, but you may need to dial down the graphics settings a little.

As an overall package, the Acer is definitely stronger than the HP though, purely due to the dedicated graphics card.

Hi,

Just want to say that what you're doing is fantastic.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, my current one is a few years old and is showing signs of slowing down. What I've currently got is this; HP Pavilion Notebook i56200u 8GB RAM & 1TB SSD. I am no gamer and certainly no expert so if you could point me in the right direction that'd be fantastic. I'd really like to be able to run FM smoothly whilst browsing and listening to spotify. That's pretty much all I use it for other than streaming movies/boxsets. If the laptop is decent and can run other types of games then I might look into playing more often. My budget isn't huge but I've seen box.co.uk do finance which is an option.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Really depends how much you store on it. It's an SSD though so will be miles faster. You don't often get 1TB SSD's as standard yet.

That one is the same spec in terms of parts as the one I linked at £500 - it's just more expensive because it's more compact and has a touchscreen.  EDIT: It's also Windows 10 S, so you'll also have to take it out of S mode before you can install Steam and FM.

However, if you don't mind skipping the ability to go and collect the item today, this is an excellent deal and within your price range: https://www.very.co.uk/hp-pavilion-15-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-gtx-1650-8gb-ram-256-ssd-15-ec1001na/1600498417.prd

It is better than all the other options so far, so I would suggest the 2 working day delivery time is worth the sacrifice.

From the original post:

We don't know:
We cannot test every computer/laptop, we only speak about the specs and if it's suitable for Football Manager and if it's within your budget. There is no way to know for certain how many Leagues/Divisions/Database size or how fast the game will progress. One user may be happy with the game progressing a week in 20 minutes, for others that may be too slow, so It's all subjective.

Both links are the same (Huawei laptop).  And I wouldn't go for that - it's massively overpriced in my opinion and you can get better for the same or less money.

Also, to give suitable advice you need to advise what sort of expectations you have for the 3D graphics settings and what else you plan to do with the laptop, especially if it involves other games,

Ok, I had to search it on Currys as the link didn't give sufficient info... honestly, if you can afford it, go for one of the models with the Ryzen 5 4500U over this (this has the 3500U) - the 4500U is a vast improvement over the 3500U.

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-inspiron-14-5405-14-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-256-gb-ssd-silver-10208028-pdt.html that one is £50 more and does have less storage than the one above, but as long as the smaller storage space doesn't bother you it will be a much better option.

The other thing I would say is, if you're thinking of playing other modern games as well, you will need to rethink entirely as although the Ryzens have good integrated graphics, they don't have the power to play modern AAA games at any really acceptable level without a dedicated graphics card.
