Apologies for jumping straight back in but what should I be looking out for when searching. I know it's the CPU speed that seems low often on the budget laptops but where do I find it on the spec on this one for instance...

https://www.argos.co.uk/product/9192562?clickSR=slp:term:8gb ram laptop:1:114:1

I have no idea where it says, guessing it's not the processor speed?

CPU speed is the processor speed.  If the listing doesn't give that detail, then you can find it by doing a Google search on the CPU model.

How come the Acer laptop wouldn't be powerful enough then as it has 2.3 CPU speed, 8gb RAM, Radeon Vega 8 Graphics Card and Ryzen 5 2500U Processor?

I did benchmark tests on a couple of sites and they say it would work but I value a humans opinion. I must be missing something...

Thanks again

None of the laptops you linked had the Ryzen 5 2500U.

That does play FM, but not terribly quickly (I can say with certainty as I own a laptop with that processor).

Ah when I looked up that one it took it to another similarly named laptop with the ryzen 5 2500u and I didn't notice it had changed. I've seen some ryzen 5 2500u laptops for £500 so I might just have to stretch the budget that little bit more

Hoping someone in here can help me;

I have an 18-month old laptop (Dell Inspiron 7380) with i78565U CPU @1.8Ghz. 8GB memory and 256 SSD storage.

Both FM20 and FM21 drives the fan like crazy past 6-8 months, before that it was better (only occasionally).

You think I might have a faulty hard drive? Or my specs too low to handle the game? Something else?

Thanks in advance.

If the fans are going like that, it means they're working hard to keep the CPU cool most likely. Which means either the CPU is warming up under load, or you could maybe have an issue with dust preventing proper airflow.

Does that mean I should get a repair shop to take a look at it?

Try blowing a can of compressed air at the vents.

Also, open up Task Manager and see if it shows the CPU at high percentage usage.

Currently looking for a new laptop at about 900 pounds (10000 Swedish crowns), only gaming I do is Football Manager. When I've done some research myself I've come across two different laptops with the Ryzen 5 4600H CPU and GTX 1650Ti GPU and 16GB of ram. Even though the GPU feels a bit overpowered for FM, the only other alternatives at the same pricepoint has worse CPU ratings att cpubenchmark.net. One of the things I'm worried about with getting a "gaming laptop" is that it might run hot and make more noice, but that might not be correct?

The two models I'm looking at is the Acer Nitro 5 and ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FX506II. Does anyone have any experience with either models or have any other tips of laptops in this price range?

Both Acer and ASUS have pretty solid reputations when it comes to laptops, so you should be fine with either.

And in all likelihood, these models will generate some heat and noise, but that is a byproduct of having fairly high spec and powerful components within a relatively small shell.  Powerful PC components produce heat and the fans try to keep them warm, so it's something you kind of have to live with.

You can certainly help reduce heat though, and possibly noise as a result, if you also get a laptop cooling pad to keep it sat on though.

Another thought though if you are worried about heat and noise - apparently the new Macbook Air which is in that kind of price range, excels with regard to that based on feedback we've had, and the new CPU has shown to perform very well, and the integrated graphics have shown to be very capable too - but if you do go down this route, make sure you look at ones with the M1 processor - avoid the previous models with Intel processors.

Hoping I can get some advice on laptops:

Firstly, is a NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics card good enough to handle FM20 on mid/high settings in 3D match view?

Is there a big difference between an i5 and i7 processor?

Is this laptop also good enough for FM?

It's very pricey for what it is - but it will work fine.

Are you set on this? Why this one?

Morning all. Been battling my laptop for a few months and it's finally caved in. My budget is £400-500 as I'm currently doing some renovations to the house.

I only use my laptop for FM and web browsing, I play FM in 2D so graphics aren't as important and I usually load 5/6 countries. Any recommendations will be welcome (I've been following suggestions in my price range but my lack of confidence with this stuff pushed me to asking!).

The laptop that has died is a HP Pavilion with an Intel Core i5 and 8GB RAM if that helps with speed comparison.

As you say you are using added playerfaces and graphics - probably the reason for this.

Take them out and see if it improves.

Not set on it, I've just been looking at various laptops and thought that was the best one. I was also thinking of a MacBook Air, but I've heard that FM doesn't work as well on these. Is this true? The one I was looking at is linked below:

Do you think this would be a better option than the Huawei?

Thanks

What make is hte computer?

Type into google the make - and serial number.

For example, I have a DELL.

I type in exactly this ----- Dell Updates Serial Number

The google result brings me to this page https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk

Where I can type in the serial number (found underneath your laptop) and get any crucial updates.

I've both Asus and Acer before and were happy with them, part of the reason why I'm looking at them again.

The Macbook air is a bit over my budget and I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to leave Windows at the moment.

Been trying to find something similar as the air but a PC, but from what I've found so far the gaming laptops still have better CPU and GPU. And performance wise I'm struggling to find a really good non-gaming laptop.

The this.  Its not a gaming laptop, but this processor scores very highly for a low power laptop CPU and it has very good integrated graphics.

If I was looking to buy a desktop for around £800, for playing FM mainly, and potentially some FIFA. Would I be better off building one via PCSpecialist, etc?

Currently, you will likely pay a little more from the custom building sites as it seems the cost of components has increased quite a lot, but it's worth doing if you can afford it as you don't get the extra bloatware that manufacturers add to Windows.

That makes sense! It's mainly going to be for FM so that's fine :)

The only other comparable is this one, but it's a Ryzen CPU and I am unfamiliar with them (forgive my lack of knowledge!) - https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/gaming/pc-gaming/gaming-laptops/asus-tuf-blue-a15-15-6-gaming-laptop-amd-ryzen-7-gtx-1660-ti-512-gb-ssd-10205355-pdt.html

Yep, go for that.  That's a cracking deal for the price and one of the strongest CPU's you'll currently find in a laptop.

Your mate is mistaken. Having extra RAM allows you to have multiple programs running at the same time without impacting system performance.  By current standards, 8GB is plenty for most people.

FM processing, and allowing larger game setups is all about the CPU (processor).  Basically, the more powerful the processor is, the quicker FM will run all its calculations and thus move the game forward.

That laptop is excellent for FM as it has an absolute beast of a processor. Plus, the graphics card is more than enough for playing the 3D matches at max settings.

Just to add to the above, if you are playing other modern AAA games (the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Microsoft Flight Simulator as some prime examples), you will definitely want 16GB of RAM as those games do require a lot of RAM. FM's RAM requirements are fairly modest.

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has ordered anything from box.co.uk. I ordered a a new laptop and the delivery date has passed. Have been reading elsewhere a few horror stories. Anyone had a good and recent experience?

I personally can only go by the online reviews: https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.box.co.uk

There are bad reviews there, but by and large the good reviews are far more in number than the bad ones (73% 5 star, 83% 3 to 5 star).

If you're having issues, then contact the retailer directly.

I was surprised to see it as low as £500 as well to be honest.

There is this one at £529, may be worth seeing if it's in stock anywhere near you: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8114448?clickSR=slp:term:ryzen 5:7:35:1

Unfortunately it isn't in stock near me either. I will however bookmark it and keep a daily check as the battery life looks very impressive with how long it lasts and fast charging. Is Lenovo generally of better quality than HP for the overall laptop or is that not something relevant to compare between the two?
