Ronaldo Beckham Posted October 27, 2020 Share Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) After being inspired by the Phil Jones up front for PSG reddit thread and @russell9's Liverpool GK experiment I have decided to start a challenge on here to see who can get a rubbish defender and see who can get the highest goalscoring season and also the overall highest goal tally for their club. If anyone has any suggestions of who would be the worst defender to try this challenge I would appreciate the suggestions. Would be a nice way to end FM2020 before FM2021 comes out. Please no moaning about the Match Engine as this is not what this thread is about. Its just about having fun. If I was to do it with Brighton I would have to pick David Burn up front as he is 6ft 7. He could be my new Peter Crouch. Or I could put Tariq Lamptey up front as an Advanced Forward or Poacher. I have decided to do a save with Burnley and play Ben Mee up front as a Target Man(Attacking). Only got through friendlies so far and Ben Mee aint scored yet so we will see. Ronaldo Beckham Posted October 28, 2020 Author Share Posted October 28, 2020 Burnley & Ben Mee Progress - August A decent start the season with a 0-0 draw with Man City. I have got 2 wins in August so far with a 3-2 win over Brighton and 5-1 win over Southampton. Ben Mee started slow with him not scoring a goal in all the friendlies or the first 5 games of the season but then we played Southampton and he banged 2 goals in and 1 assist. He scored from 15 yards with a decent shot and then got a tap in for his 2nd. He also contributed an assist from a free kick. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ronaldo Beckham Posted October 29, 2020 Author Share Posted October 29, 2020 November & December Results A shocking 2 months for Burnley with no wins in 2 months. 5 losses and 4 draws. Ben Mee has now got 6 goals & 3 assists in 19 games played. He even got Man Of The Match twice. Only 1 of his goals come from a penalty. Not as good as @russell9's attempt with his goalies at Liverpool and Barcelona but I am really enjoying the save. Here are some of my main transfers in and out. I don't remember him scoring from a direct free kick and I think only goal scored with his head which I was surprised at cos I assumed most of his goals would be from penalties or headers. Ronaldo Beckham Posted October 29, 2020 Author Share Posted October 29, 2020 So the season ended and I finished 17th with Burnley and just about staying up. Ben Mee was topscorer for Burnley with 12 goals (5 were penalties). He also got 6 assists and 4 Man Of The Match awards. He also got the Fans Player Of The Season award. So the experiment ended. I played a few tactics but the best one was a 4-4-2 Wing Play formation. I think fans of FM can relax about the Match Engine cos if it was that messed up then Ben Mee would be banging them in. Cheers mate. I might try David Burn at Brighton as he is 6ft 7 or something like that. I just need to find a tactic that relys on pinging the ball into the box for the big man to header goals in. Here is a few tactics I have downloaded that utilizes the targetman which is the role Mings will have. Aston Villa are my 2nd favorite team and I hope this goes well. No as I have already said its 80-90% of the goals. I don't think he has scored from a free kick or header in from a corner etc which is annoying cos I downloaded this tactic to do that. I did manage to beat Bournemouth 3-2 in the League Cup so I am getting close to bringing Villa to Wembley. Mings had another rubbish month with only 1 goal scored which was a rebound in case a certain person wants to know. He also got injured and is out for 2-3 weeks. Ronaldo Beckham Posted November 2, 2020 Author Share Posted November 2, 2020 Aston Villa Winter Update I had an ok Decemember picking up 4 wins, losing 4 and drawing one and then January come along and I won all 4 fixtures in that month. Tyron Mings has not only started scoring but he is becoming a match winner for me. He now has 14 goals in 26 games played. Before anyone asks how did he score I don't know as I changed it from key highlights to commentary only as I just want to get the season done. Ronaldo Beckham Posted November 3, 2020 Author Share Posted November 3, 2020 Aston Villa End Of Season Review I managed to end the season as 6th in the league and also won the FA Cup by beating Man Utd 1-0 in the final. Tyron Mings banged the goals in for me in the 2nd half of the season and ended up with 23 goals in 40 games. He also got 2 assists and 6 Man Of The Match awards. 12 of his goals were from the Penalty spot. Tyron Mings was 2nd only behind Sergio Aguero for the leagues top goalscorer award. TBH I am not that surprised he is doing so much better, because he has the attributes for it - good composure, technique & decisions is probably a big help. Plus you have him surrounded by quality players like Grealish, Traore and Barkley. He scored 10 for my Villa team from CB lol so not surprised to see him double that tally playing as your striker. Are you going to continue the save? EDIT - you can also see the impact of the new role training on his attributes which have all taken a knock, as I assume his CA has remained around the same. I did play a few Prem games but Mings wasn't scoring so I have decided to start a new save with Fulham and this time I decided to search for a central defender who was over 6ft 2 and has some decent attributes for a Targetman and I originally went for Brentford defender Pontius Jansson but he didn't want to come to me. He would of been perfect but I found another good candidate in Jack O'Connell from Sheff Utd so I signed him to play the Targetman this year.
