great striker..no goals

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm playing with newly promoted west brom in the EPL and i bought this player with good attributes but the problem is he's always underperforming. he's consistancy is 11 out of 20 and big matches is the same. do you reckon it's a tactical problem?

The main thing that springs to mind is that your striker is short. Not only short but has really bad jumping reach, in conjunction with average heading and strength, which tells me he doesn't have much in the way of an aerial presence in general nevermind at Premier League level.

So my first suggestion would be that you need to change mixed crossing to low crossing, so he's getting more chances that he can actually get on the end of and be more successful. Hit Early Crosses is another tweak I would keep in mind to try out, as he looks to have the attributes that could take advantage of this against a decent amount of opponents.

He has 3 bravery for a top league. Not a good choice to use up front for premier league.

This. Bravery, concentration, jumping are all not what you'd want for a striker/someone leading the line. Would play him as an IF

If he was in my team, i wouldn't use him as an IF also. An IF is usually the second goalscorer or sometimes the first one.

I could sell him because he is already 25. :)

Yes.

Tweaks I would recommend without changing the striker's role (poacher):

- change the AMR's duty into support (because IF on attack duty usually does not work well in combination with a striker in a simple runner/scorer type of role, such as poacher, AF or PF on attack duty)

- change the AMC's duty into attack (both to create more direct support to the poacher and to help the AMC/AP to better exploit the space)

- change the RB into FB on attack duty (to encourage natural overlaps on the right flank as well as more crosses into the box for the poacher to potentially capitalize on)

- drop the LOE to standard instead of higher (both to create more space for your attackers and improve your defensive compactness)

- remove narrow attacking width and leave it on defaut (don't deny yourself space in the final third, especially as you have inside-oriented roles on both flanks)

- remove tight marking (makes very little to no sense in a tactic like yours, including the formation)

- remove distribution to playmaker (not least because you have 2 PMs, so the instruction might confuse the keeper)

- tell the striker to move into channels (to give the opposition defenses more to think about)

- do not insist on playing out of defence at all costs (try to play both with and without it and compare to see what suits your players better)
