Thank you to Deisler for doing a great job handling this last year.

FM21 is approaching so it's time to delve in to the FMCU awards once more. The rules and categories will be the same as last year...

Best FMCU Newcomer
For the best new FMCU poster.

Best FMCU Team
For the best team, aside from my Schalke ;)

Best FMCU Journeyman Career
For the best career where someone takes care of multiple sides.

Best FMCU Poster (aka the award I used to win every year)
For the poster to has arguably contributed the most to this forum.

Best FMCU Story
For the thread with the highest quality of storytelling.

Best FMCU Fountain of Youth
For the best 'youth only' career.

Best FMCU Retro Career
For the best career on an older version.

Best FMCU Thread Name
For the best thread name, funnily enough.

Best FMCU Manager of the Year
An individual award for the best Manager, since with name like that it wouldn't be for the best Physio.

Best FMCU Career Thread
For the best overall thread, regardless of type.

The rules are as follows...

1. You do not talk about the FMCU awards.

2. No repetition, hesitation or deviation.

3.  Positional play is only permitted following a lateral move in accordance to Lyttleton's variation.

4. The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself. Second best? Tell one other person - if you must. There is no third best.

5. You are not allowed to use your powers for personal gain.

Alternatively...

1. Send me all of your votes to be carefully recorded and scrutinised as the stats geek that I am.

2. No voting for yourself or anything related to your threads.

3. You can vote for older threads if they haven't won an award before.

4. Invalid votes will just be ignored without warning.

5. The deadline for voting will be midnight on Thursday 5th November (remember, remember!).

Awards night will be at 7pm on Friday 6th November.

I just want to tell you good luck, we're all counting on you.

Come on guys, we need more votes. I got a few after my previous post but it took a while after that to get another to take it to 10. We particularly need it this year as from the start we had a wide range of people/threads being voted for in most categories. As things stand we technically have a winner for 7 of the 10 awards but those are pretty much all on the basis of being the only entry with 2 or 3 votes amidst a field of 1's. 'Best Team' is still stuck on no one having more than 1 vote and while we can have joint-winners (and have in the past) it seems absurd to do so in that situation. It's a good thing we don't have the 'you have to vote to be eligible for an award' rule that the Stories forum have or it would be an absolute farce, though it wouldn't have been an issue in previous years I was doing it where pretty much all the regulars voted anyway.

I've only just seen this thread. Apologies. (compiling my votes now).

Can I just say that if you don't know who to vote for in some areas, you should feel free to vote for just the one's you can answer.

I know it's hard to vote for a newcomer, (and perhaps we could have a shortlist for that in the future).

Other than that. Please please PLEASE vote. It really doesn't matter who you vote for or even if you vote in just 1 area. Just please vote.

Easier said than done unfortunately, though it would mean not having at least a couple of invalid votes for that category as it happens pretty much every year. It would involve going through rather a lot of threads checking the OP's 'newcomer' status for the year (especially as I haven't really been active and keeping track of threads for this year) as well as deciding how active a thread would have to be to be worth including. It would still be a potentially much longer list than it needed to be.

Yeah, there certainly doesn't seem to be an easy solution.

Either the onus is on those voting to do the research themselves or the person in charge of voting, (in this case you), has a huge amount of work to do.

Maybe a solution in the future, (only a suggestion), is that if you were in charge for example and there were 10 categories, then you could delegate the compiling of a shortlist to 10 different posters. Anyway, just a suggestion. Just thinking of ways to inxrease the number of votes being cast.

ps. Please vote if you haven't already.

I probably haven't mentioned it enough but there is a simple way to check someone's 'newcomer' status. Aside from their sign-up date, you can also see someone's activity on their profile, which includes the topics they started. I always do that myself to check who people are voting for, and even Deisler got it wrong this year. There is only so much I can do myself because of my Masters, though I have at least got a better grip on it than this time last year which has enabled me to do this. If anything this is a far more suitable week than last week was for a few different reasons but I've still been slow at catching up with recording votes. People have suggested a shortlist before but while I see the logic, I've never been a fan of the idea on the basis that essentially I'd be deciding for everyone else who was worthy. Your idea sounds a little better but it would still be their opinion if you mean one poster doing each category. Then there's the issue of deciding who and potential conflicts of interest. I still think this 'open' system works best but it's a shame there isn't an ideal simpler alternative.

One rule we should probably have from next year is that if you're voting for a thread, you should actually state the thread you're voting for (even a vague description if you'te not going to give the actual name, which often happens) and not just the person. Usually it's been simple enough to work out which one they mean (unless they're talking about Makoto obviously) but I've gotten to the point where it just doesn't feel worth it (especially now I've got other things on my plate) if people aren't going to put even that little effort in.

Anyway voting is now closed and I'll just sort out the remaining sets of votes now. The 'Official' time for awards night is 7pm GMT today but I might get on and start slightly earlier.

Maybe if there's no clear winner you could just not award the winner in that year.

E: I mean in a case when noone gets more than 1-2 votes. If it's a draw with more votes each then of course award it.
