fil.jasz
Hello, I recently just started playing FM20. I am quite happy with my team performance, but I have some issues with a few aspects of my tactics: 1) WB are crazy mad. They get the ball and ALWAYS run straight forward to the end line (never cut aggressively towards the goal), then wait for the defender and then try to cross the ball to the other WB, which concludes in weak shot on goal. I would like them to play more safety on their half (not always sprint forward), but also attack in the final third towards the goal not end line and most important to cross the ball to forwards not the other WB. I tried give them some instructions but it won't help. Any ideas? 2) Pressing isn't working for me. Forwards press quite well but there is a huge gap between them and my midfielders. Also it always looks like this: 2-3 my players press 1 opponent with a ball and leave the nearest opponents empty. It seems like only these 2-3 players press and the rest of the team is just watching. 3) My central defenders are too passive. I would like my team to press high (doesn't work) and force opponent to play long balls, then I would like my CB to attack aggressively the ball. Usually they just give the attackers space to make counterattack. 4) Offsides. Is there any solution to massive number of silly offsides? I have like 5ish every game and it's usually after set piece. Any advises? If you have any other suggestions to my tactics I am waiting for feedback. I also wonder if there are better roles for midfielders or forwards. PatrickReynolds
For the WB, changing to Support or Defend will help with them bombing forward all the time. The gap between your F and M line is likely due to the PFs on Attack and 2/3 CMs on support. Naturally creates a big gap between the lines with no attacking mids. That's the extent of what I can suggest, there are likely some more knowledgeable people around here to add to this!

I'm not very knowledgeable but I think you should use one of your strikers in the dlf role. and you have to tell the midfield to play the role of bbm widely. Or you can give the role of mezzela. Finally, in the newly released match engine mode, the waits do not go down the line. I suggest you to try.I would like more knowledgeable people to inform me too. It seems like only these 2-3 players press and the rest of the team is just watching. 2. This setup splits 2FWs, 2WBs and MEZa from team when pressing opposition high up the pitch. You need to balance the roles and duties of FWs, MCs and WBs. 13 hours ago, fil.jasz said: 3) My central defenders are too passive. Your left CM engages the opposition with a lower position then your right CM. 13 hours ago, fil.jasz said: 4) Offsides. Is there any solution to massive number of silly offsides? I have like 5ish every game and it's usually after set piece. Any advises? 4.Your 2 FWs both have attack duties. Players see them running behind defence and pass them when there is no better option. It's a simple issue. I have many solutions for these issues and some advices for your team play. You use "Much Shorter Passing" TI with 2 FWs with attack duty. 2 FWs with attack duty best suit direct plays but also it can be beneficial to use mixed passing TI. Shorter or Much Shorter Passing needs more fluidity and support. On a 5-3-2 WB tactic WBs are main wide options but some RCM and LCM roles can support them with wide plays and provide natural width too. I strongly suggest changing 1 FWs role and duty to a supportive one which helps team's attack plan. Your RFW in front of MEZa can be a good connection to team play. But I don't recommend using Cavani with a support role. Martial or Rasford can be a better option for this. My second suggestion is changing LCM role to MEZs and left WB to a WBa and right WB to a CWBs. With these changes you will have 3 player combinations and strong overloading partnerships for both sides. Cavani has good aerial ability so I don't recommend "Low Cross" TI. Mixed option can be better. But if it works well then stay with "Low Cross" option. "Much Shorter Passing" lowers the tempo and lowers the chance of using bombing WBs effectively. DLPs can pass them with his vision and risky passing PI with this TI but what about other players? They tend to pass much shorter based on "Much Shorter Passing" TI except some players with passing player traits. Sounds very contradictory IMHO. And your overall setup of roles and duties is fairly unbalanced + very inconsistent with your team instructions.
