Lead Southend to glory. 2020 Lockdown challenge

You're Hired!

I've just got the Managers job at sunny Saafend, cushty!

Or many be not....

Having met the players, analysed the squad and poured over the finances … This is going to be a considerable challenge.

I have a transfer budget of £26k and a wage budget of £41k.

Some of these players couldn't pass water that flows under Southend Pier.

I'm not interested in the board's aims of maintaining the club's League 1 status.

I want out of this dismal league - I have world domination on my mind.

What is clear is that I'm not going to be able to build a squad that can go up the leagues with these financial constraints.

We currently are a poor Southend side. So, no rising starlet or quality old pro is going to be tempted here! I quickly realise I will need to beg, borrow and steal my way through the loan market with exciting young players. Hmm.

I nurture my new office spider plant, Ernie,  fix myself an iced-latte and have look over what we have to work with.

I discover there are a few culprits not pulling their weight and justifying their wages.

I transfer out: Theo Robinson and Steph McLaughlin which frees up some much needed dollar.

.

I get impatient waiting for sales to go through so decide to release several players from the reserves and development squad. Most notably, Liam Ridgewell, Rob Kiernan and John White are the big name victims of my need to get business done early and raise some much-needed cash! Single tickets from Southend Victoria are booked for the long list below. It's time to be ruthless, I'm prepared with knives out...

Quote

So knives out...Catch the mouse..Squash his head...Put him in the pot.

.

The transfer budget and wage budget now look healthier. I pour over the scouting feature and quickly identify that If we're to get out of this division we need to plunder the loans market as there is very few options available. As for free transfers the following were considered potential candidates:

893948314_transfersout.thumb.png.b9abfa7e782280f8c9c0dbd60d2a5aa2.png

The problem is most of these players are asking for anywhere between 3-7K a week and I don't rate their chances of moving up to play in the Championship in the future - plus some don't have the legs to get us promoted over a long season in L1.

Efe Ambrose's stats are tempting and we continue to have non-progressive talks between his agent to no avail. I'm not giving up on him yet and will keep you posted. So in the meantime- I dip into the loan market for talent that can take the Shrimpers up to the Championship.

Layton Ndukwu (Leicester) was already on a loan deal when I joined as is a decent wide player with pace.

I also managed to bag:

-Brandon Williams from Man Utd U23s - I'm playing the 7k of his 10k/week salary - expensive I know but he's quality and I couldn't resist having him as a vital cog.

-Tashan Oakley-Boothe from Spurs' U23s- I'm only paying £600/week in a nice piece of business. He easy is better that any other creative midfielder we have.

-Japhet Tanganga from Spurs' U23. A great addition at £650/week plus he can keep Tashan company as they both adjust!

-Curtis Jones from Liverpool's U23s- Excited to get this young starlet who can play a few offensive positions on both flanks. On 4k/week he is a much better alternative to the likes of Stephen McLaughlin who is now long gone.

-Kayne Ramsey a FB from Soton, George McEachran from Chelsea and Luca Connell a versatile midfielder from Celtic.

1089164681_transfersout.thumb.png.1394b2c9bc7983b006949ae4199558b3.png

To balance the books and keep the Chairman off my back- I've reluctantly transfer listed a few players to raise more lolly :

Simon Cox - who's on £3,300  a week at 32.

1604742695_transfersout.thumb.png.9be137e74e04eeef5f209203dc3e6d2f.png

Mark Oxley- who's a decent GK but is on £2800 a week.

2010932883_transfersout.thumb.png.c84726c1b2a12704eb4cfbcae377178e.png

Clubs are not biting for these boys yet which is frustrating as I'm keen to get Efe Ambrose asap.

Pre-season: Reasons to be cheerful

I remain patient and stick with the below tactic that has suited me well on FM of seasons gone past (4231).

Capture.thumb.PNG.b08785e8c8178ee958d19758e91cc556.PNG

This shape and style is quite an attacking tactic with the AP in the centre of the formation key to unlocking defensive opponents and creating chances for the front 4 ahead of him.  I'm impressed with Isaac Hutchinson, who slots nicely into a IF position. Also Charlie Kelman and Tom Hopper have performed well so far. I'm confident they can provide me with enough quality to get goals in this league. Stephen Humphreys has been bang average so far- So I've decided to transfer list him as he's worth 400k to see if we get any others. He's arguably our best player on paper so we'll wait and see if his form can improve.

Midfield veteran, Mark Milligan and CBs, Joe Shaughnessy and Harry Lennon have all fitted nicely into the 4-2-3-1 formation which is encouraging. I'm using two complete wingback set on attack. This is a demanding position but I have plenty of cover in this area with Elvis Bwomono, Jason Demetriou and Kayne Ramsay on the right of the pitch with Brandon Williams and Nathan Ralph on the left.

We are a little thread-bare in defence as the system requires decent ball-playing CBs. This will need to be addressed in the next few weeks. You can only have 5 loanee players in the match day squad which means I'm out for a free-transfer or two still to enable us to rotate the squad.

I tried to loan talented midfielder James Gardner from Man Utd but lose out to Coventry, who we'll face in 2 sleeps as the season opens.

I'm currently stalking two CBs and I really want both: Remi Streete and Efe Ambrose would be an ideal coup.

I reluctantly cancel the loan of Luca Connell in order to prioritise making them my top transfers.

Pre season so far has flown by...

We've recorded decent results albeit against modest opposition but the new group are mixing well:

1401788834_transfersout.thumb.png.75c785636900b1b9b6522126ec4ef599.png

It's the 1st August already and I'm desperate to bring in a few names to our group before the all important season opener against Coventry....

Season Opener- Coventry Away

All pre-match preparations were in order and finally it was time to start the season away to Coventry at Birmingham's St Andrew's Stadium.

I was a little apprehensive as they're a talented side with pace, goals and starlets coming through.

After a 7 goal thriller, I'm pleased to report the Shrimpers were on the right side of the 3 points.

Last minute additions- Dancin' In The Streete

Bingo! I sign Remi Streete on a free. I now feel a little bit better about myself as a manager having signed a player who isn't going to leave after their loan period expires.

His stats look in good nick for this level and feel he could play in the Championship in no time.

Capture.thumb.PNG.a990ba9609264e338f16b01288eaadc3.PNG

Other updates -

Scouting Ross McCormack and Tom Adeyemi (both available on a free) as further options.

Humphreys, Cox and Oxley are still transfer listed and I'm all ears for offers as the transfer deadline looms.

Next match: Blackpool at Roots Hall. Battle of the beaches!

Second Fixture - Blackpool Home

It's the best seaside resort of Southend Vs  Blackpool (The Seasiders).

Goals and positive play spread across our team today from playing it out of defence with attitude combined with lethal finishing was the recipe for success against Blackpool.

Work Permit Woes

Unfortunately, I was unable to sign Efe Ambrose due to his WP not being granted. I'm gutted about this one but I move on.

Capture.thumb.PNG.7a8747ff112176f17d77d77121c5edc8.PNG

Moving on... We have Reading in the League Cup.

I'm seeing this as a chance to stretch the legs of a few fringe players and maybe hope to put a few players like Simon Cox and Mark Oxley in the shop window before the deadline.

League Cup - Reading Home

I'm not expected much and not to bothered about the cup with promotion my key priority.

I rotate the team a bit. Streete, Oxley, Tanganga and Hyam make their first starts of the season.

Surely the winning goal from Layton Ndukwu! 4-3!

   Capture.thumb.PNG.49c049104e5fdd1bf4b5155b5df0e88b.PNG

Nope.... Aussie vet, Mark Milligan fires home from 19 yards to make it 5-3.

Well, I was not expecting that result!

No need to get carried away as we have Lincoln next in a few days, ugh.

Till next time...

Capture.PNG2.PNG

See ya Simon

Simon Cox will be leaving for Dundalk. The fee is not great at 91k but it could rise to £115,000 in the near future.

To be honest I 'm more concerned about freeing up the wage bill.

Surely the miserly Ron Martin won't pocket all the cash from this one?

I read the small print of the deal and discover the transfer will not go through till 3rd Jan-Ouch! Well least we have a forward option to play in the cups perhaps.

Finally,  after weeks of negotiation and harassment, Tom Adejemi signs on a free!

He's a real decent player at this level and could even be competitive in the Championship at only 27.

At 4.3k/wk he's not cheap and can be injury prone but I still feel he provides real value added to our midfield.

Fourth Fixture- Peterborough - Home

We face 'The Posh' which could be another high scoring game.

Surely we can't make this 5 on the bounce? Or can we?

I've rotated the squad to give extra freshness and rest tired legs.

Capture.thumb.PNG.936f79bbbea94b490c87c6b87109e892.PNG

The transfer listed Humphreys continues to impress. He maybe worth £400,000 but I'm starting to believe he will be a big player for us this season. He capitalises on some poor Peterborough marking and tucks it away into the bottom right corner. 1-0.

Capture.thumb.PNG.2c493e122a5604f7db17b3e07362acfe.PNG

Young scouse starlet- Curtis Jones doubles the lead with a header from close range in the second half. 2-0.

Capture.thumb.PNG.da0bf522d98f63b5f91643b8b10e1a6e.PNG

Stephen Humphreys, what can I say? Firstly, you're worth your weight in gold! Secondly, I was wrong to doubt you!

He curls a screamer from a freekick on the edge of the box. Superb! 3-1.

Money isn't everything and we clearly have a top performer in Mr. Humphreys. Check out this return from 4 appearances. No wonder he sports a cheesy grin! Consider yourself unlisted.

The scouts are out to steal

Our young first-choice GK Nathan Bishop (now at Man Utd in RL) is being scouted by Premiership and Championship clubs.

I need to keep an eye on this. The £600 a week we're playing him will only keep him honest for so long..

Fifth Match- Wycombe - Away

Mark Oxley gets the nod today in goal with Elvis B starting on the right for a change.

Luke Hyam get the opportunity to impress and justify his 4k /wk wages as Tom Adeyemi is struggling with match fitness. I must consider finding an alternative to Layton Ndukwa on IF (right) as he's played every game so far. if he gets tired I have Curtis Jones on the bench who can do a shift on either flank.

Capture.thumb.PNG.d48b6c34f49875a0f03dd87de769d8f4.PNG

That man again!

Stephen Humphreys fires in a headed from a whipped Isaac Hutchinson freekick. What a start!

Capture.thumb.PNG.ee5f3ff44ee7c0c5aae3c3768d5deed9.PNG

On reflection this was a disappointing draw after dictating the play and possession of the game throughout. Our finishing was poor in the second half and we also picked up an injury to Oakley-Booth along the way which stalled our creativity in the middle.

Still unbeaten in 6 and 5 in the league so mustn't grumble.

League Cup- 2nd Rnd. Cheltenham- Home.

Capture.thumb.PNG.9fca48f3845c53681c7cccd8035b33db.PNG

Several key players need a rest. So I've benched Humphreys, Williams and Hyam. Layton Ndukwa is left out completely as he is knackered. Trying out a new CB pairing today with Japhet Tanganga and Remi Streete getting the nod.

Isaac Hutchinson continues his good form with a deft finish to put us 1-0 up going into HT.

Capture.thumb.PNG.042c0c3818f9dcefa6514ebeb6772cbb.PNG

Just after the restart Curtis Jones doubles our advantage by slotting home a first time strike into the far corner. 2-0.

A decent win in the cup. Curtis Jones was on fire today with a goal and an assist - scoring 9/10. I'm also pleased Tom Hooper got back on the scoresheet after his injury. Onwards and upwards. I wonder who we'll get in the 3rd round?

Who'd we get? Ugh..

The glamorous away tie in late September is to be a trip to League Two Carlisle.

One for the diaries!

Sixth Match- Rochdale - Home

We don't play poorly but never really had full control of the game. Twice we had to force equalisers to match Rochdale, a team who put on a performance which suggests they are far better than 17th place.

Isaac Hutchinson (84min) gets us a share of the points with another curling freekick.

Follow the Shrimpers journey in our next instalment as we strive for promotion!

September 2019

August was a fine month as we are currently unbeaten in our last six league outings.

Capture.PNG.eb51973bfa7cdb173f80a3ff34bd1336.PNG

Our form has not gone unnoticed with Stephen Humphreys picking up both the YPOTM and POTM award. He deserves it!

Capture.thumb.PNG.4db19d49377522bda43863961195f529.PNG

Also I receive MOTM award, which is nice!

With two days until the transfer deadline we are keen to re-evaluate our options for the long slog to January 2020.

Ross Wallace (34yrs) is the only decent player out of contract who is interested in joining us before the window.

Capture.thumb.PNG.e5c22bce362885ea98a3bdd6d4a7b01f.PNG

We have talks but he's greedy and demanding 6K a week. I think not Ross.

Perhaps we can find another option in the loan market?

I go in for winger, Jordan Stevens at Leeds but I'm not hopefully as our wage contribution is a little light.

I transfer list FB, Harry Kyprianou. He hasn't started this season and this could raise me the needed funds to snap up a last minute deal on loan. Fingers crossed..

The window passes us by and unfortunately this only creates issues between Jason Demetriou and I. He put in shoddy training performances and I blasted him for this as he has been a repeat offender. He's currently listed but no offers transpired. Looks like we're stuck with the group we have having exhausted all avenues financially.

 Plymouth- Away. Leasing.com Trophy

Time for a shuffle as this tin cup comp is a bit of a distraction for a small squad on a mission.

Capture.thumb.PNG.8967d503004600e48d61e1a5f8519b68.PNG

The game is a bore draw and goes to penalties.

After over 20 spot kicks....Our kid, Mark Oxley is the hero of the hour making a simple caught save from Scott Wootton's tame effort.

Seventh match- Fleetwood- Home

This is a big chance to go back top of the table as we play our game in-hand against the 'Shrimps'.

Oxford are sitting above us. We need to change that with a good result against an out-of-sorts Fleetwood.

Capture.thumb.PNG.f9a4426a0e09ec12a39f8f403cc71de4.PNG

Great start. Brandon Williams finds space in their box and tucks it away with a strong finish. 1-0.

Capture.thumb.PNG.ff5394fb609f2522b52376ccef8e0f62.PNG

Layton Ndukwu makes it 2-0 before HT.

Glad to see Tom Hopper (75) get some needed game time and capitalise on his opportunity. 3-0.

A superb performance at Roots Hall today with a rout, the Shrimpers smash the Cod Army.

Eighth Match- Shrewsbury- Away

We're still behind Oxford with a game in hand and Sunderland creeping up behind us. We need to keep our good run going and clinch the three points here. Tashan Oakley-Booth or the big 'TOB' is still unavailable. So I'm asking our Capt. Mike Milligan to pitch in. At 34 he is old and slow but has brilliant technique for this level and he was awesome last outing.

Capture.thumb.PNG.02039a4c99423617c7b9939f52278b48.PNG

We have a poor start and go behind early to a cool Callam Lang finish (29). Despite our poor start Brandon Williams continues to get forward and wins us a penalty. Captain fantastic, Mike Milligan converts (34) the penalty to equalise.

Capture.thumb.PNG.6f774c465ebd22add53fb0fcdcf76652.PNG

This galvanises the boys and Stephen Humphreys (45) pops up on the stroke of HT from nowhere to put us in front, 1-2!

Capture.thumb.PNG.b6bcaac15638896676f30119050715bc.PNG

The second half seems to dwindle out to a dull affair until bad boy, Jason Demetriou (playing Inside forward due to an inspired substitution and lack of squad depth) flicks a deflected cross home from 6 yards to cement the three points for us. This sends us back to 1st position for now.

MK are in 14th and we still have a game to make up. I really want to beat these as I've always despised this club.

I name a strong team and I'm pleased to have both TOB and Josh McEachran back in the starting line-up.

Capture.thumb.PNG.dbe558ad5ea90d8cc40cc94f7e787f1d.PNG

To my horror, again we go behind early on to an Islam Feruz strike.

Super Tommy Hooper! Puts us a goal to the good to easy our nerves and wipe up the banana skin hazard.

There's little time to celebrate the cup run as we've got Accrington to entertain at home.

This is a dismal and frustrating game of squandered chances. At one point in the second half we had nearly 70% possession and I was wondering if a goal would come. In the dying moments - sub Isaac Hutchinson floats a cross to Tom Adeyemi...….

Capture.thumb.PNG.b802ef4f58e438cf4f525d0ef7616b57.PNG

Match Report:

Capture.thumb.PNG.dcb8db81cfb74993cf6aa9d90cd73909.PNG

Final Score:

A superb performance at Roots Hall today with a rout, the Shrimpers smash the Cod Army.

However, this was not a shellfish display by any stretch of the imagination!

It was fair to say the Cod Army were filleted, battered and served up with a side order of chips and humble pie for dessert.

Capture.thumb.PNG.7ff12ecfb5e5996690fa68000e8ad4a4.PNG

Capture.thumb.PNG.730b48377e91ec8bd340d06074786673.PNG

Have no fear! The TOB is here! He curls one into the corner from 23 yards at a pace I couldn't capture- to take us into the interval at 1-1. What a way to open your account for the season.

Capture.thumb.PNG.40b1ead386926574d69f9fd6339be531.PNG

Humphreys has been out of sorts to today. I bring on Tom Hopper (75) who repays me instantly to grab the winner with a stretching, acrobatic volley from close range! Get In!!

Bishop signs

Due to Prem and Champ clubs constantly visiting Roots Hall. I've managed to tie down Nathan Bishop on a 3 -year deal. He's happy with £1200 a week and so am I.

Capture.PNG.005684377cfcf62b0de83583d26bf8fa.PNG

Yes! It's the one everyone has been waiting for...The 3rd round tie against Carlisle. We could be a tricky trip to Cumbria away from bagging a tasty tie against one of the big boys...

I roll the dice and shuffle the line-up as we have a busy schedule ahead of us.

Capture.thumb.PNG.122d2500dd113d96106e19b578195646.PNG

Super Tommy Hooper! Puts us a goal to the good to easy our nerves and wipe up the banana skin hazard.

He wheels away and dedicates his goal to our well travelled fans with pride. This 2 minute opener turns out being the winning goal of the game despite bossing possession and creating several chances.

Capture.PNG

There's little time to celebrate the cup run as we've got Accrington to entertain at home.

This is a dismal and frustrating game of squandered chances. At one point in the second half we had nearly 70% possession and I was wondering if a goal would come. In the dying moments - sub Isaac Hutchinson floats a cross to Tom Adeyemi...….

Capture.thumb.PNG.15af67c6de90647ddef723cef4a01705.PNGHe fires the header into the net to win the game! Job done!

October

September was a good month. I win MOTM for the second time so the board are happy. We're still unbeaten in 10 games in the league which is amazing although we have rode our luck in the last few fixtures.

Capture.PNG.1bbb94cb1be9b179da2d8b77c57d3075.PNG

We go behind to a Sean Raggett goal. 1-0 Pompey!

We battle back in the second half with Tom Hooper equalising in the 57th min.

Capture.thumb.PNG.a835ad682c2259fc81f48485281caf32.PNG

With a foothold in the game we play better but it's not good enough..

In the 91st min, heartbreak. Ronan Curtis scored the winner for Portsmouth with a superb freekick that beats Bishop all-ends-up and our unbeaten run is over.

November

After the giant killing of Southampton we're into the QFLs of the cup and draw the biggest tie we could of hoped for:

Capture.thumb.PNG.a52f3c8e740d768246528108e26a275a.PNG

Some highlights during this month were:

image.png.c2194ee9b4735376850c16853b93f20a.pngStephen Humphrey's brace at the Stadium of Light

Joe Shaughnessy's last minute winner against Walsall in the Leasing.com Trophy

Picking up Tommie Hoban on a free transfer to boost the squad was a good way of putting use to our extra income generated by our cup success.

Capture.thumb.PNG.5d5733757e38a96aed58c4ea52a44d2a.PNG

Tom Hooper's brace in our 2-0 win over AFC Wimbledon.

December

We remained unbeaten throughout November with a too many sticky draws. Our goal scoring has dried up a little.

Our good form in the cup competitions continue, beating Wrexham in the 2nd rnd.

image.png.36a8bc2702aa85ce4deb590720ce80d5.png

Good win against Rotherham. The highlight being a spectacular freekick from new signing Carlos Calvo.

We hosted Man Utd in the QFL of the Carabao Cup.

We went into the game as obvious underdogs at a respectful 9/2.

We were brilliant and put on a truly heroic performance.

We edged possession and chances created but ultimately lost 2-1 to a strong Utd outfit who benefited from us having a Mark Milligan goal ruled offside, a dubious penalty and an unfortunate own goal from Elvis Bwomono. On a different night- who knows we may off pulled off a miracle result?

A key highlight was Stephen Humphreys' consolation goal in the 74th min, beating David De Gea at close range.

image.thumb.png.b3ec36414b0d83643a45ae24ca37ee49.pngimage.thumb.png.c65aa194194ad08a8157ea42861b379c.png

We suffer an infuriating 1-1 draw against 2nd from bottom Bolton. We seem to be wobbling slightly having draw 3 of our last 5 away fixture.

We have injuries and suspensions to contend with but we should be beating sides like this!

image.png.54fcfd53e734fbe8800a7fcbac7aedb7.png

Great win away at Wimbledon. We cleaned up quicker than a womble on speed.

image.thumb.png.0494055f64b603d71b0eeba3199c727e.png74387611_wimgoal.thumb.PNG.8ac6e3b4de031207a0d340668c6dc857.PNG

We were out for more scalps and giant killing. We faced Swansea in the FA Cup.

David beat Goliath....Get in!

image.png.86260e819a418e52676bd448cd055459.pngCurtis Jones puts us ahead and we didn't look back.

image.thumb.png.dcf7f424a65db0594352474f39d245d9.png

January

We loan Paris Maghoma from Spurs

Simon Cox leaves for Dundalk.

Luke Hyman leaves for Shrewsbury.

We see in the NY with a 3-0 win over Gillingham. Brandon Williams scores a brace from defence.

Capture.thumb.PNG.5839c576bfad8dddc72bd1147b62b441.PNG

This puts us back top with 14 league matches without defeat.

image.thumb.png.c3bc2ce410615d02116b1d6b73f19685.png

Last minute smash and grab at Accrington preserves our record with a 3-2 win.

image.thumb.png.173baef3bcd9afed4d59ae72fd63de42.png

FA CUP- We host Swansea in the 4th Round.

We got of to a great start. Curtis Jones taking advantage of a dodgy back pass, lobs the keeper from way out!

George McEachran made it 2-0.

Curtis Jones 3-1

January Transfer Window is shut.

We picked up Josh DaSilva from Brentford in the 11th hour to bolster our midfield.

Since our promotion - I have been wheeling and dealing to put together a group of players who can get promoted again to the Premiership.

Again, we have no money to buy and build so the loan market has been key to bring in the needed quality.

Well he's answering back with a close range finish to put us 2-0 up and claim the 3pts.

FA Cup 5th round - We entertain Sheff Utd at Roots Hall

Here's the deal

Norwich are champions. With just 3 games left we can still claim automatic/runners-up spot but looks like Stoke are breathing down our necks.

image.thumb.png.885c1443784f8dce1213cc5364614eda.png

image.png.c7451f3495b33e26c4ee4b4845afd8c9.pngGreat win. Two wins to go!

image.png.d3d5a90d85613fab3f60d76c146ff40e.pngDisaster as we draw to Bristol and Stoke win and climb to 2nd by a point. 1 game to go. Looks like we will end up fighting it out in the playoffs. Ugh.

image.thumb.png.28099f1ce72d2e7351f04083e06995d1.png

Ben Sheaf puts us ahead and 2nd ...as Stoke are currently down 1-0

image.thumb.png.01290ca9000882d6a6c4b5f6bb5c6579.pngimage.thumb.png.2677241db5274bf3463d66117ddd71d9.pngimage.png.35c620e1b4998e43c45a42e2faa08fa1.png

Promotion goes down to the dramatic last game of the season. It all could change.

We're going up! Get in!

image.thumb.png.03631cf5e307a4f68c048128b1f0f2f1.png

Season review

We're the biggest overachievers having been predicted to finish 23rd, we finished runners-up.

Ben Sheaf won Player of The Year in the Championship.

Rhian Brewster was the leagues top goalscorer with 26.

Well as far as I'm aware it has limited space on here.

If I find a way around this in the future I'll join the posts up.

I've being using a lot of images and this maybe why?

Thanks for your concern. J

Well we made it! We're Premier League.

It's been a while since we started of in League 1 with a transfer kitty of 26k and 40k for wages.

I've been busy wheeling and dealing with no less than 14 players coming in.

The following three veterans will be joining in July on frees:

Fausto Vera a 6 mill capture from Torino is a signing I'm most excited about.

image.thumb.png.87cca5d0052d2aa7fab04a8e4f3e13a7.png

Sad to see Humphreys go as he scored so many important goals for us but he just won't cut it at this level so he transfers out to Pompey for £600,000.

Tom Adeyemi will leave on a free soon as contract talks broke down as he was asking for a 400% wage increase.

image.png.4b22f08781b5fae800fc44b7f2e121eb.pngHas also got greedy so I've transferred listed him out. With Oumar Solet, Dan Burn and Perr Schuurs  coming in he'd be 4th choice at best anyway.

The Iceman that is Hermann Hreiðarsson is also set to leave. He's demanding too much in wages.

image.thumb.png.58a62dcf3c97256318b4c96af4806a19.pngRoberto Insigne comes in on loan after nagging the board for 2 weeks solid.

Well worth it. He'll give us so much quality and width.

A great result.

This was no mean feat: Oumar Solet and Curtis Jones go off injured first half and to add to that Ryan Gravenberch gets dismissed early into the second.

With grit and determination 10 men Southend battle and hold out for our first ever point in the Prem.

Fulham away

We didn't have too long to wait for our 1st Prem goal .

We held on from that spectacular moment to get all 3 points in an historic win for the club.

image.thumb.png.63f30a564e2de98048a9dae6429ab856.png I didn't expect our first league win to be today. Get in!

League Cup

We just scrap through on pens.

image.thumb.png.2046844fb11e2fa68a7724672fd5d6db.png

After 10 games played

We find ourselves in 14th which is decent but there is much room for improvement in creating chances and converting sticky draws into wins.

image.thumb.png.1c3d848a9892c74ae1e51e6579ff418e.png

League Cup 4th Rnd- Norwich

Emmanuel Mas puts us on course early on...

image.thumb.png.63c40bcf18166de1a5001e860dadae3c.png It's a hard fought tie and we go out on pens.

image.thumb.png.dc6fde3171be717ff7a558d645b7ed7f.png

After 20 games

We've had a ridiculous number of draws (12) so far. On course to stay up but much improvement needed.

image.thumb.png.6b3e7dd444358bb0aeb46849327f1925.png

Signings in the January window

We snap up Federico Ricci from Sassuolo for 875K

We loan out Tommy Hopper to MK Dons

Man City at home

We host Manchester City. Not expected anything after a number of mediocre results...

Bobby Duncan puts us ahead after 46 seconds! 1-0!

image.thumb.png.dc1ca60c297af55fe707e821619e52fb.png

Curtis Jones converts confidently from the spot to send us into dreamland, 2-0.

Bobby Duncan fires us 3-0 up! This is an amazing team effort going into HT.

We hold on to record an amazing result!

Chelsea

On a high from beating Man City we faced Chelsea 4 days after.

We go behind but battle on to complete a brilliant comeback 2-1 victory.

It was pleasing to see Faustino Anjorin  ( a starlet we signed for 275k ) score the equaliser against the club who rejected him.

Record signing  Fausto Vera with a superb half-volley was the winning goal.

What's going on? 16 games without a win then we beat City and Chelsea in the same week.

Sheffield United Away

The boys are really enjoying the new year with their 3rd win on the bounce.

We demolish and blunt the blades 4-1. Even Dan Burn gets on the scoresheet!

Can we extract revenge on the canaries in the cup?

Pucciarelli- Who's been a poor signing - scored his 2nd of the season. I'm not sure what was more impressive; the finish or the celebration after?

image.thumb.png.70f902502b877be4b2093c71833e006b.pngWe concede late on which was disappointing. A replay it shall be.

Goals are raining down at Roots Hall!

Ryan Gravenberch cementing victory in a 4-1 win over Fulham

FA Cup replay

Our great form of late continues...

Arsenal- Away

Bobby Duncan loves scoring against the top 6 clubs! 1-0!

image.thumb.png.6473f5aee684f91185ffdeeb7b0f47f4.png

Love beating the Gooners!

FA Cup

The Gooners get revenge and dump us out of the cup.

After 30 games

image.thumb.png.baf78d33431645aa5b6bb96e5a6d371e.png

Big result against Brum

A six-pointer 1-0 win thanks to wonderkid Ryan Gravenberch.

image.thumb.png.bb9f0c1bb2b308c3e064575072cbd120.png

Another draw!

We blow a two goal advantage to record draw number 15. A Premier League record.

image.thumb.png.bc7fed142340c3e4109e6e2d43878298.png

image.png

Brighton- Away

Bobby Duncan gets his 7th goal of the season to get us the 3 points

image.thumb.png.51b1308a133c5c0b0ab4d9009073bee8.png

Liverpool - Away

Bobby Duncan gets his goal against a top side but it's not enough this time.

We're well beaten by Liverpool 6-1. Brandon Williams' sending off did not help our cause.

image.thumb.png.fa3a3be9b548fd0489a521e0adf12827.png

Stoke- Away

We relegate Stoke in a high scoring game with unlikely scorers.

Solet and Schuurs both getting on the scoresheet in a 3-2 win for the Shrimpers.

image.thumb.png.8b16bb2998bad13dbf9c1ba8498e2ca3.png

Fresh blood is needed

I end all possible loanee deals to raise the remaining wage bill money to snap up some quality out of contract additions

Last game- Burnley

A last minute scramble and Dowell gets the win for us.

image.thumb.png.e9660f38424bb884da45e3bb4c783ad4.png

image.png.3222efaea59706ac8b7fc49d57140de3.png

We finish 11th.

It's been a weird, bitter-sweet season with 16 draws.

With a few good additions we'll qualify for Europe next season easily.

I can't help feeling we could of done better this season but all-in-all we did a solid job.

image.thumb.png.f9a1d7775399778cd469e3e6e2761030.png

image.thumb.png.e6c7ec8e42a1dc7cff4cb761434f9cfc.png

Prem 2nd Season

As we go into planning for our second Prem campaign, I'm targeting European qualification.

The board are pessimistic and have given me the target off avoiding relegation. Well- I'll show them.

We have a healthy budget this season - mostly due to our success and the fact we spent very little last season.

image.thumb.png.6d3237060afe903a4cd1008f9388e8ae.png

Coming in:

.image.thumb.png.8d9e09f0fcf1109405891617708647d7.png

Going out:

image.thumb.png.2ed42c8c923b16be8bd7c09ea3b7a28a.png

This could be the best starting XI

image.thumb.png.c983d8e8d47871521b57bbfea0bad759.pngJust to clarify- that's Dujon Sterling on the right.

The CB partnership needs work between Solet and Schuurs but confident this can be sorted out.

The bookies back us to go down

image.thumb.png.1424bb9921cc7e2831522354eff9c44d.png

7/10 is insulting

More transfer news

image.thumb.png.1a89797d26753f966028288514ebd904.png

He's been decent for us to be fair.

This is a good deal profit-wise as we picked him up on a free, plus we have a lot of competition in midfield.

image.thumb.png.0a22be44411a1b65ecbb9acd0f0c37ed.pngI use the extra funds to bring in a quality wing-back by the name of Rogerio.

Spurs- Away

Tricky trip away to my beloved Tottenham for season opener.

Funny enough, the game ends in a score draw. 2-2. We play with 10 men for most the second half and get in-front before conceding late on.

Pleased new forward Cristo opened his account for the season.

image.thumb.png.0aed6db16c4ecbfedf91ac86748e32c2.png

Norwich at home

New signing Cristo is a fox in the box!

He scores the winning goal and puts in a brilliant performance.

League Cup- Exeter at home

We put the Grecians to the sword (4-0).

Fausto Vera with the pick of the goals.

West Ham at home

Kind of a derby of sorts that's re-kindled since our rise to the top league- we're keen to get one-over on each other.

We do just that..

image.thumb.png.42b08c1fda581f1c75e5019933b2a997.png

Rafik Zekhnini is already paying back his transfer fee from Torino (£3.5m) with a brace before HT.

We go into the break 3-0 up.

We run out 6-0 winners after 90 minutes of swagger and stylish attacking play. West Ham put simply were blown away!

League Cup- 3rd Rnd. Man City Away

That man Bobby Duncan just loves scoring against top 6 teams. What a result!

image.thumb.png.78f0fa308585720541111da44abe2078.png

League Cup- 4th Rnd. Barnsley Away

A high scoring feast of footy. Starlet Kristen Toomsalu gets a brace and is unplayable.

After 10 games

We're in 4th place. A very decent start.

Goals have been key and our new signings have delivered us goals to win games.

has been awesome so far with 6 league goals, closely followed by Cristo on 5.

image.thumb.png.d169af5b6244e6563cc5f75c5b6c69e6.png

image.thumb.png.eb9198fe1a5f9c28e1a995815a9f1dd1.png

League Cup QF- Southampton- Home

image.thumb.png.f4cc8fedba5a8390bf7014a276356bba.png

Inside forward, Rafik Zekhnini gets us off to a great start with his 12th of the season.

He then gets a brace on the stroke of 60 mins. 2-0

He completes his hattrick with a spot-kick (77 mins) to put us through 3-1 winners and into the semi-finals.

This guy has been an amazing buy!

Costing 3.5 million (from Torino) he's the joint top scorer in the Prem.

image.png.09489a266d023ae91c77d70d36105f7e.png

image.png.b1c35994adf3a69b96f31ad193f0922a.png

Fingers crossed in the transfer window

I've been tracking a certain Erling Haaland as his contract is due to expire with Salzburg and I cannot believe no top club has snapped him up yet in 2023!

Capture.thumb.PNG.cd7581084da6c550cbf0dca41d32184e.PNG

To try and beat bigger clubs (any club interested) I've decided to offer Salzburg 11.75 Million as a sweetener as there's only 5 months left on his deal and I could really do with him to join ASAP! Roma and Wolfsberg have been circling with offering free transfers. I'm praying I can bring him to Roots Hall but not entirely confident.

He accepts a contract negotiation on the proviso he is top-earner and is on a high wage. Fair enough.

We wait to confirm the deal......tick ...tock...

While I wait for the outcome of the Haaland deal I have a few out-goings to balance the books:

image.thumb.png.d00fb4a6533f7c740a91dbb535705759.png

image.thumb.png.c00396e47d8c37effe60020333e725af.png

****! I have a week to find approximately 5 million.

Wolves

image.png

image.png Best performance yet!

image.png

This is daylight robbery but I'm desperate to raise funds

image.thumb.png.4c3db9832046df8104d80f064af19348.png

He signs. We got our man after weeks of haggling and number crunching.

image.png.b14377c0593cc4ec1880c3faf53d2c6f.png

After almost 20 games and the window closing we're 5th.

The CL spot looks out of reach but we're going to give it our best shot.

With more fire-power upfront we'll definitely bank some European place.

image.thumb.png.3cb1d458397744da3810cc44409822a7.png

Haaland makes his mark in his second game (first at home) to provide us with the winning goal in a tight 2-1 win over Everton

Haaland Land

Closing the gap on the big four

image.thumb.png.c904250821698e9a74f7e2d2daaa8d98.png

Perr Schuurs has been a rock at the back but also a demon at scoring match winning goals.

His 5th of the season in 3-0 victory over Sheff Utd.

image.thumb.png.5a8e28848fbc0469ffc9b6d142a8191d.png

Tough fixtures to come

image.png

A huge game

image.png

image.png.217b8b6467de820a537870d1f5abe9fb.png A huge result!

A huge 3-1 win against Villa with Haaland grabbing a hattrick to help us stay on track for a CL place!

We hold on to record an amazing result!

image.thumb.png.350ea48d6e8793709fa9a27da4986c0e.pngimage.thumb.png.1453f9fe89813ebcd2274f5d166c21f4.pngimage.thumb.png.a479643c7cacb9eeb464b7457ee43516.png

Even Dan Burn gets on the scoresheet!

image.png.6cd8480bd5f253018032d84e4ec5d7ad.pngimage.thumb.png.c06ed021f68920b16752bf100124297b.png

Love beating the Gooners!

image.thumb.png.b9b7fe7f9f64c794659d0fd14d45a3ed.png

FA Cup

The Gooners get revenge and dump us out of the cup.

After 30 games

image.thumb.png.baf78d33431645aa5b6bb96e5a6d371e.png

Big result against Brum

A six-pointer 1-0 win thanks to wonderkid Ryan Gravenberch.

image.thumb.png.bb9f0c1bb2b308c3e064575072cbd120.png

Another draw!

We blow a two goal advantage to record draw number 15. A Premier League record.

image.thumb.png.bc7fed142340c3e4109e6e2d43878298.png

image.png

Brighton- Away

Bobby Duncan gets his 7th goal of the season to get us the 3 points

image.thumb.png.51b1308a133c5c0b0ab4d9009073bee8.png

Liverpool - Away

Bobby Duncan gets his goal against a top side but it's not enough this time.

We're well beaten by Liverpool 6-1. Brandon Williams' sending off did not help our cause.

image.thumb.png.fa3a3be9b548fd0489a521e0adf12827.png

Stoke- Away

We relegate Stoke in a high scoring game with unlikely scorers.

Solet and Schuurs both getting on the scoresheet in a 3-2 win for the Shrimpers.

image.thumb.png.8b16bb2998bad13dbf9c1ba8498e2ca3.png

Fresh blood is needed

I end all possible loanee deals to raise the remaining wage bill money to snap up some quality out of contract additions

Last game- Burnley

A last minute scramble and Dowell gets the win for us.

image.thumb.png.e9660f38424bb884da45e3bb4c783ad4.png

image.png.3222efaea59706ac8b7fc49d57140de3.png

We finish 11th.

It's been a weird, bitter-sweet season with 16 draws.

With a few good additions we'll qualify for Europe next season easily.

I can't help feeling we could of done better this season but all-in-all we did a solid job.

While I wait for the outcome of the Haaland deal I have a few out-goings to balance the books:

image.thumb.png.c00396e47d8c37effe60020333e725af.png

****! I have a week to find approximately 5 million.

Wolves

image.png Best performance yet!

Perr Schuurs has been a rock at the back but also a demon at scoring match winning goals.

His 5th of the season in 3-0 victory over Sheff Utd.

A huge 3-1 win against Villa with Haaland grabbing a hattrick to help us stay on track for a CL place!

image.thumb.png.eba7291e0906a0bf027e81d89dc52b98.png

We carve out a heroic draw against the red devils.

With an early Solet goal being disallowed in the first half we could of picked up all 3 point.

Check out the possession stats.

11 shots on target - so De Gea definitely earnt his salary today!

With Soton beating Man City this means there are 4 clubs fighting for the remaining two CL places.

We need a win to cement our position, up next is Leicester...

Leicester

An early pen gave us the opportunity we needed to get ahead and settle down.

Funny how Arsenal and Man City finish outside the CL with Chelsea sneaking in on the last day.

image.png.f191f956f7be210ade31e162cd59e4f3.png Had a fee of 9 million accepted as his contract is running down.

Ok. I didn't want to **** people off and muck it up like I did last time.

I'll give it ago. Essentially I need to trim down my images and delete old ones to make room?

No, just a new post in this thread for new info/images each time.

If too much for a single post make 2 or 3.

I'm being really thick here but i'm unsure how to continue posting or how to create a new post within this thread?

What do I need to click on 'quote' ?

Only- I've tried to continue posting in my current thread and it won't except any new images- just text.

Sorry to be a pain

5th season -

Time to branch-out without forgetting our roots

Times are a changing under my tenure and a new stadium is planned to replace the crumbling Roots Hall.

image.thumb.png.5c522015f1b2f3e67a06e19981314397.png

Building a team for the future.

I've been busy in the window and have found it so much easier to attract talent we now can offer European footy!

image.thumb.png.caa9c4cb9bbc989e22b37c4f1b3d395a.png

Alban Lafont, Alessandro Bastoni and Dejan Kulusevski are huge signings for us and I'm expecting them to make an instant impact.

Felix Passlack is a decent player with great bravery and consistency which is what we need to build on our recent success.

New-gen, Suarez and Italian starlet Raoul Bellanova look like really good prospects for the future.

I'm looking into a new CM but I've only like 6 million left and finding it tricky to find a player with the needed quality so I may need to sell a fringe player or two.

Players out:

The potential starting line-up could look like this:

Last minute addition

I was scouring the market for a bargain and came across a certain welsh wizard.

image.thumb.png.823b88d6102ab86309d0ebf2e1299604.pngimage.thumb.png.cac3167011cbf37ef784e44be6f70b06.png

As a Spurs fan, I questioned whether this was a sentimental decision...

However, at 34, his stats are tidy and he still has decent fitness, stamina and pace. So I offered him a 12 month contract paying him £81K/WK and he landed on a free.

Plus - I play Inside Forward roles and he can play on either flank.

He won't play every game but I can roll him out for the games against the bigger clubs and on those CL nights.

Pre-season

A tour of Asia and Europe produced many goals and big wins against poor opponents.

image.png.9d5708fcafe72bb20822762393678dec.png

Season opener against Birmingham and keen to start well.

We did ok but it came at a cost. Haaland is taken off after just half an hour.

Thankfully it's not serious.

image.png.8498385fcd0c508917dd65f7b1891702.png

Big guns firing

image.thumb.png.cacffef664499c60ac6d1cd08ab0adc8.png

CL Draw is here!

Predictably it's a tough group. I'm not moaning as I'm buzzing to be there!

Time to play that music!

image.png.2ba42df6e667ce1d46f60f2533628032.png image.png.4f963904c72340c19b9a5192ecdf0ec4.png

So finally, our first fixture in the CL.

We've just had a respectable 1-1 draw with Liverpool and beat City so we've shown we can cut it against big opposition.

This challenge is a slightly different animal but I'm hoping we can get some sort of a result here.

The new 4-2-2-2 system I've deployed with a higher tempo and pressing will certainly ensure PSG will have to earn their money to beat us.

Here's hoping we can cause an upset in Paris- Oui, oui.

image.thumb.png.e0c3af75968f54ce196adb56028d3138.png

We get schooled and with being reduced to 10-men early on and then eventually 9-men we fell way short of what was needed.

A disappointing night in France! We move on and put it to experience.

image.png.389d19500c26d7e8861ebc0ccef231fa.png

Herrera with a tap-in to put us ahead.

image.thumb.png.40049195efc4e43014efc0eb2165adc3.png

Dujon Sterling makes a 60-yard sprint from deep in our half......He glides past 3 …...Before coolly placing it home to make it 3-0. This is more like it!

Capture.PNG.765a9e4cb35f8f5ccf35c674ed786954.PNGimage.thumb.png.10d3b2d6ad31eb7092137fc43d990a63.png

Bellisimo!

After 10

We've adjusting to playing European football and it's taken a toll on some results.

Room for improvement!

Haaland rescues the point in Naples

A decent draw at home to PSG put us in a good position to qualify in 2nd.

One group game remaining- must win to make sure.

After 20 games (West Ham)

Rafik Zekhnini has been a superb professional for us. A tempting bid from China has come in and I'm unsure whether to cash in?

His stats aren't amazing but his scoring record is insane.

Bargain Hunt

The board invested some CL funds back into the club.

A rare gesture from (tight as a ducks arse) Ron Martin.

image.thumb.png.3d619985c919c26cae646f8ca69b7154.png

We've received lots of bids for key players:

28 Mill for Rogerio

20 mill for Yangel Herrera

11 mill for Cristo

With new CL stage registration and window deadline on the horizon, it's time for big decisions.

Cristo exits stage left for 12 million and I make Christopher Kramer's loan a permanent move for a cool 1.7m due to his contract running down.

More CL action

1st leg KO round tie against Juventus and we stormed it - giving us a great chance of progressing!

We peppered their goal with 19 shots on target- I'm left scratching my head how we didn't get more?

A frustrating game, we just couldn't score despite creating many chances. At least Bayern don't take an away goal back to Munich.

What a season!

We won two major cups: Champions League and the FA Cup.

image.thumb.png.1186b54810086acd601a43375b273efa.png

image.thumb.png.f11cb852b63b1c8762353ab50e4a3394.png Great to see that 3 players top the award winners (Lafont, Schuurs and Haaland) with another (Passlack) coming second.

Success breeds success..

image.thumb.png.05dd90828db1d2668a39fae7c950304d.png

Haaland is getting better and better!

Nice way to start our defense of the CL.

image.thumb.png.e35a63e7e7356eb95b23ba3a67f0164a.png

I'm staggered. I ask the board to get me Kenneth Taylor to bring balance and fluidity to the team and they actually do the business and sign the starlet for £46 million quid!

Slight catch...We have to wait till the new year.

image.thumb.png.515375b0324c55cbf307c36a1f7c8611.png

Half way through the season and we are somewhat on course to be champions although we are currently in 3rd pushing to make up the points.

image.png.709bad7aa74c19ef479bd26336ae1a7b.png

If we are to become champions, this could be the XI that takes us there.

image.thumb.png.640b3d1869aaae2f2492729b0fda5d75.png

Haaland hits 23 goals in January!

image.thumb.png.c3d1f90ea8c085b1fb3eaeb7f4205959.png

He's still performing despite us falling out from rejecting several bids from other clubs.

I'm squeezing everything from this small group of players and they're doing me proud.

We've closed the gap to a single point.

We're on course to defend our European Title! Just!

What a comeback from being 3-0 down at HT.

Another massive result from the boys

Haaland  scores his 35th and 36th of the season to sink Man Utd.

image.png.f12ef6edfa81f496012a0d4cffdc2aaa.png

Eight games left and we have daylight as leaders

image.png.b64c0c99ad0843def2b54e8c625ce190.png

Another tight result in the CL but we're still in the hat despite a few scares!

image.png.ed74a553152dec8b746f739380a49920.png

Some massive games coming up

We've booked our place in the CL final

image.png.acf679533da0977fff71ad1d89cd8fb3.png

If we get a point against Brighton today we secure the Premier League title for the first time ever!

After a hard fought game we get the 3 points and create history; with only Burnley left to play! :hammer::onmehead:
