This may be the dumbest press conference question I've ever had...

Predicted to fight relegation, 6th at Christmas and yet....

How much did you spend?

I wish media predictions were dynamic. Like when you are predicted to be 10th and then spend like 150M, they should update their initial prediction.

I was 3rd in the league 1 point off top spot after 19 games and was asked if my 19 year old loaned out striker 3 leagues below should brought back because of our 'struggles' he had 6 goal and my top scorer had 15

'He could hardly do worse than the current lot' was an option

I was tipped to finish 3rd as well

Press conferences are worse in '20 than they ever were IMO. It's beyond stupid and they really offer nothing to the enjoyment of the game. I could win a match 7-1 and there will at least 2-3 questions on how "great a performance" one of the opposition players had. Are you ****ing serious?

I usually send my Assistant to handle them.

Reminds me of the words by a late legendary coach of a different sport:"If I win, I don't need the media. If I lose, they can't help me."

In FM 19, I took Rangers to their first ever CL final.  Lots of interest in the build up and the pre-game press conference arrived.  After the usual 2 or 3 regular questions, A reporter from a Scottish paper asked:  " how pleased are you that Jim Smith has just signed a new contract"  I actually had to pause the conference, go back into the game to find out that he was my 6th choice, 19 year old keeper who never been near the first team and had been out on loan for 9 months from the Reserves and had his contract renewed by the Reserve Manager!  I would have really liked to have answered either "Who?" or " Do you really think that just before the biggest game in the club's history this question is at all relevant?"

Even by the questionable standards of some press conference questions, that was a cracker.

I've been asked about the international allegiances of obscure teenagers with no first team appearances before the European Championship final :D

Net spend was about £100m- this was warped somewhat by Mike Ashley taking over and signing 2 players for £80m which I had no say in.

It is a fair bit but I'd still say being 6th in the League as Norwich suggests results are still fine.

I (Milan) am currently 12 (maybe 13) points clear of second place (Lazio), 17 points clear of third place (Juve), with 7 games to go and I'm playing Lazio at home in my next match. In the press conference I was asked who would win the league ("um...me?") and then I was asked why I had such confidence in my team's chances!

Then, I receive an update from Juve manager press conference who was asked something similar and he says he's going to get as many points as possible and see what happens!

I've lost one match all season. I think we will be ok, the press obviously aren't so sure...

The worst and most annoying question is about my tactical setup, like I know just one tactical setup and using it. With that question, they are like questioning me no matter if I am very succesful.

The other one I get is my Head of Youth signs a promising 16 yr old with CA around 65 and PA of around 130, I get asked will he feature in the next game ?? He's 16, on about £200 and going straight into the youth squad.

In 18 the one that used to wind me up was 'you've qualified for the Euro Vase, do you think you can achieve any more?'

Well, I'm 10 points clear top of the table with 7 games left, so yes I think we're probably not just going to settle for 6th place...

Yeh these things are still very silly, I am Leverkusen, in the second season where I won the league the first year, and I have just had to answer a question about an opposition manager predicting my team to get relegated.....

I remember in FM19, getting a media question about my "lavish spending" since taking over the club.

This had been prompted by the previous manager saying that I'd had it easy, since he had been frugal with his signings.

He'd left Gent (of all teams) bottom of the first division, with a net transfer spend over the past 3 seasons, while I'd just won the league and brought in significant reinforcements while having a net transfer earn (from selling the crap players he'd signed). I think I just ignored the question, but it did make me laugh for a few minutes, given how Mourinho-ly brazen it was (except that would be implying something other than an algorithm at play).

Another one, I get a player sent off so and afterwards  if i happen to drop points it is blamed on the change of formation, Yes sorry i couldn't use 11 players and that made it change but it really wasn't a change of formation for no reason

I am currently in Romanian league and my top striker had a 10M release clause. So when someone came with that offer I had to replace him and the best option on my shortlist was another striker from Ramanina league and I had to pay around 4M. Then some manager from my league accused my of irresponsible spending.

A few of the old favourites still popping up in 20.

'You took player x off after he scored two goals, is he going to be upset he couldn't get a hat track?' (Every time a manager does this IRL I always wonder if the press actually do ask this)

'You refused to sub player X despite his clearly below par performance' (Well I don't have a specialist left back on the bench randomly so I thought he should stay on)

'You're not starting player x today- is this because of his recent injury problems?' (Well he hadn't started any of the 5 games before his 3 day lay off for a sore groin, so no)

I love that one when he has a knock which puts him below 50% fitness and there is 10 minutes left you are 5-0 up or 1-0 up so in both situations it makes sense to bring him off as soon as that happens

Just had a classic. Final game of the season, won to finish 4th taking Norwich into the Champions League for the first time ever.

The press conference?  Three questions total, one about my team talk and then two about a player I sent on loan showing good form in League One, including a question about whether I'll recall him as he's outgrown his loan team- what would be the point of recalling him with the season over?

  • 1 month later...

Won a game 3-0 and the press asked me about 1 of my strikers poor performance up front in that game, completely forgetting to mention that he got 3 assists, all to his strike partner!! So I think the big man little man combo worked, and he didn't have a poor performance....

A classic after you have won at home and the score was 7-1 to you.

‘you must be happy with how your team came from behind to win’

Yeah, I was really scared playing at home to Villa who are bottom of the league and already relegated from the premiership.

There should be an option which says ‘I was never scared mate, just had to scream at my players to get into gear and win’

I love this sub-genre of silliness :-)

The 2 goal hat-trick one comes up every single match I sub off the 2 goal-getter. I get there is no logic in there to determine why I player came off, so they really should just comment out the code for substitute q's

I brought on a sub, then he got injured so I had to sub him off and the reporter asks whether I am going to have trouble with the player and will need to talk to him to quell potential unrest.

And yes on opposition players, the amount of time I spend fluffing opponent players and getting a 'good' response from them post interview, I might as well be their agent
