Broken promise

Recommended Posts

Just completed second very successful season with a team I set up from scratch in VNLS, and my right wing back has just accused me of breaking a promise to play him in his favourite position - right wing back. I am as pleased as punch with his performance over the two seasons and I would hate to lose him over a complete non-issue.

Hmm, I don't think he asked for anything too specific, getting up and down the wing is his strength and I just let him get on with it. He is in the Vanarama League, he isn't even my best right back on paper, but I like his style and tend to pick him ahead of the better player.

Yeah I learned a while ago to never make any promises when it comes to position, as even if it's slightly off they throw a wobbly. The same applies for loaning players as other managers get irate that you're playing for example, a natural box-to-box MF as a box-to-box MF when you accidentally said you'd play him as a ball winning MF, even though it's not his best role (happened to me once).

Is it possible that you promised to play him in the wing-back position, but actually played him in the fall-back position with the wing back role?
