Wales Manager Newgen (Glitch?)

Recommended Posts

On my save I'm currently playing the 2022/23 season as Cardiff Met. I applied for the Wales Manager job after Marcelo Lippi resigned at the start of July. I waited until mid October before finally getting a reply. I was refused a job interview so went to check out of interest to see who got the job. To my suprise a newgen has got the job.

Funnily enough the same thing has happened in my game. In 2028 Wales appointed the newgen Ash Rowlands with no previous managerial or playing experience. Bang average stats, but has held the job for the last 9 in game years.

This seems to be quite a common issue with many smaller nations in my game.

Not strictly the point of this thread, but how the hell did Marcelo Lippi end up with the Wales job?!

No different to Capello getting the England job, besides he took the China job

I disagree. First of all, Capello took the England job because:

(a) The FA threw loads of money at him

(b) England typically qualify for major tournaments regularly, and with the remnants of the 'golden generation' still around had half a chance on paper of winning something

Wales on the other hand:

(a) Don't have a pot to p!55 in (unless they flog a HELL of a lot of Bale replica shirts)

(b) Have only qualified for one tournament in 50 years

Both went to China for one last big payday having won everything there was to win in Europe, see (a) above. Why would a World Cup winning manager be interested in working with the likes of Chris Gunter and Sam Vokes?!

There's a lot wrong with this but really it boils down to the fact that well known managers have always taken jobs at lesser nations for the right money, to say Wales don't have a pot to p!55 in is ignorant, downright offensive and simply untrue.  Of course they have less money than England but they could afford to attract any manager financially, it would just be to the detriment of other areas of their budget such as youth development

I agree however that it is unlikely to happen there's just better ways to make your point than running down honest pros like Gunter and Vokes

Where do you see this vast source of revenue for the Welsh FA coming from then? Certainly not from the domestic league, tv rights would be minimal outside of Wales, commercially revenues unlikely to pull up any trees. If they did somehow miraculously manage to stump up the cash to pay the wages of a world class manager then this would presumably bet the farm and blow a decade's worth of budget...oh wait, that seems like what's happened here given they subsequently hired a complete no-mark to replace him. Not entirely realistic is it?

How is this 'running down honest pros'? It's simply calling a spade a spade, when you've worked with the likes of Buffon, Cannavaro, Del Piero etc for the best part of two decades I think working with a squad of largely journeyman pros would be a step down in anybody's book. I could've been much more derogatory if I'd wanted to single out other recent call ups...if you're going to be so touchy then maybe you should consider whether the harsh, abrasive world of the SI forums is for you...

Point taken, maybe I was being overly defensive, was having a bad day, think this home schooling is getting to me a bit!

There you go we're not all harsh and abrasive :D
