Leumas252
Hi, I have recently been promoted to the Championship, somewhat against the odds. I had a very tight transfer budget so couldnt really strengthen. This means i am strong candidates for relegation. Even my players thought i was being over ambitious when i said i thought we could survive relegation. What is the best way to manage morale in this situation? It seems like a vicious circle because when we drop points, morale goes down, making it hard to get anything from the following game. Im surprised morale drops like it does even though the players accepted we are likely to go back down. I am trying to keep all my team talks positive. Thanks

Thanks Knowing something may happen doesn't make it any less painful and gutting when it does, Losing a game is still losing it whether expected or not

To be fair, we have been on a good run recently so im not having the morale issue. We are currently 5th in the first season in the championship. Just worried about how to keep players happy if we hit bad form. Thanks

Thanks Ok that's good, hopefully the odd defeat or hiding shouldn't damage morale too much. Keep downplaying expectations and don't put any pressure on your players and they should do ok. If you keep morale high then when you inevitably hit a bad patch at some point, hopefully they shouldn't disappear down a deep dark well. If you get on a bad run then your backroom staff should suggest a team meeting which will boost morale. I tend to take any opportunity to praise players for doing well; good training and match performances, developing well, player of the month awards. Also criticise the worst performers in training and form, if their personalities are decent they should respond positively.
FrazT
Not putting too much pressure on the team is a factor in stopping morale drops. The last paragraph in the post above from @IbrahimAliMaher is also very good advice

I think i am missing something with the game in general! i just seem to not be able to create a tactic that works. Clearly im missing how to assess a team, build a tactic for them and integrate it with player instructions so it works. Im also not good and knowing which specific details to change for specific games to exploit weaknesses etc. Ihave been playing this game a long time but im clearly missing something!
