Hootieleece
Just remember in many ways the VNL is the hardest league to gain promotion out of. Especially when relying on Homegrown youth. Be patient this first season bodes well for the future.

DazRTaylor
I have a new Head of Youth Development with a better personality and his judging player ability & potential stats are also better. Let's see how he gets on.
DazRTaylor
This guy is probably the best player the club have produced. I have retrained him to play on the right wing (as my second best player is a striker who struggles to retrain) and he is awesome. His training ratings are usually 9.75 + (the last three reports have been 10.00) and he has a professional personality. I have just got him to sign a new five year contract, despite interest from Derby County. He is rated as a "current League One standard player". DazRTaylor
End of Season Review Season 2025/26 FC United of Manchester League Table - We won the league by eleven points, such was our dominance. League Fixtures 1, 2 & 3 - Despite losing our first two games of the campaign, we recovered well and had long unbeaten runs. Which was just as well as just like last season, our form towards the end of the season was patchy to say the least. F. A. Cup - A sensational cup run, one of my best ever, as we made it through to the last sixteen before being annihilated 7-1 by Liverpool at Anfield. Still, we made a lot of money from the cup run. F. A. Trophy - We equalled our best ever performance by reaching the semi finals being being hammered by Bradford City over two legs, 6-1 on aggregate. We just did not turn up. Pre Season Friendlies - Three defeats this year, all to much bigger clubs. Squad - All of the players are on very long contracts so if I can keep hold of them all, we should do well. Squad Dynamics - As you would expect from a winning side, everyone gets on. Transfers In - None. Transfers Out - Just the one departure of note, a promising youngster who was struggling to retrain because he plays in a position we do not use. I did insert a hefty sell on clause, so hopefully he will come good. Youth Candidates - A so called "Golden Generation" that I just can't see, though Lewis Thomas YP26A81 looks like he could develop into a star. Finances - The cup run has swelled the bank balance. Key Players Anthony Connelly YP23F38 - Striker who, despite having a low ability to finish, can't stop scoring. An unbelievable return of 39 goals in his 48 appearances. Stuart Bloomfield YP23G39 - Striker who I have converted into a right winger. The best player at the club. Özer Demir YP22C19 - Playing on the left wing, he, alongside Bloomfield & Connolly, terrorised defences all season. Dean Curran YP21C3 - Central defender who is a lynchpin of the side. Has made over 230 appearances for the club. Davidson Nelson YP24E53 - Left back who can also fill in anywhere across the back four. Has a superb relationship with Özer Demir YP22C19 down the left. DazRTaylor
Now, ordinarily this would really annoy me. But the offer was absolutely huge! I am a League Two club and a newly promoted one at that. I can only assume Stuart Bloomfield is a wonderkid.
Adonalsium
From my experience in seeing regens, his technicals are too low for him to become a truly world-class player. Plus he's already 19 years old, which means he has two years of development in him tops since this is FM. But he could certainly become a solid Championship / mid-table Premier League player... so in a sense you probably got the best deal you could've for him at this stage. Hootieleece
Congratulations on the VNL win. I didn't expect it. Like @Adonalsium said Bloomfield isn't World-Class but for League 2 he is enjoy him while you have him. You really need to get better first team training facilities especially if you want to develop Bloomfield to his potential for your team. DazRTaylor
This is the most fun I have had in a save for many years. I am absolutely loving it. I have just signed virtually my entire first team squad to four/five year contracts, together with a three year extension if we get promoted and an optional three year extension at my discretion. So potentially, ten/eleven year deals. When some get sold, which they inevitably will be, they will have to pay through the nose.

Kind of ironic, but my main striker injured himself and is out for six weeks, effectively the rest of the season. He did this the day after the youth candidates were signed so Nicholls, as he immediately became the next best striker, found himself up front straight away. He is doing ok, if not setting the world alight.
DazRTaylor
End of Season Review Season 2026/27 FC United of Manchester League Table - We were in the top three for most of the season, without ever challenging for the title. Salford were just too strong and they did the double over us. League Fixtures 1, 2 & 3 - A fantastic season, capped off with an unexpected promotion. F. A. Cup - Another decent cup run, we made it through to round four before narrowly losing away to top flight Bournemouth. We did beat two clubs from a higher division though on route. Carabao Cup - We made it through to round before before being eliminated. We defeated three Championship sides on the way, two away from home. leasing.com Trophy - I played weakened sides and as a result, we finished bottom of our group and were knocked out. Pre Season Friendlies - Four defeats, three of them at home to bigger clubs. Squad - We are definitely improving as the players develop. Squad Dynamics - With everyone having played together for years, this is as good as you would expect. Transfers In - None. Transfers Out - One big sale here as shown earlier. I also allowed a few players to leave on free transfers as they either haven't developed or are just not good enough. Youth Candidates - Not the "Golden Generation" I was promised, but Mark Nicholls YP27A97 looks like he could be a first team regular for years to come. Finances - Very healthy, largely down to the sale of Stuart Bloomfield YP23G39. Key Players Anthony Connelly YP23F38 - The main striker who continues to score for fun. Özer Demir YP22C19 - Left winger who is good enough to play at a higher level. Dean Curran YP21C3 - The poster boy of the club, the centre back has made more appearances for the club than anyone else. Ryan Jackson YP23E37 - Playing the holding role in midfield, he had a fine season. Kieran McKay YP24C51 - Can play in central midfield or up front, the young Scot had his best season to date. Next Season It would be great to survive next season. Time will tell. Adonalsium
Will be interesting to see how Salford do, too - a fellow Manchester club with a very familiar board of directors. I wonder if Dean "Mr. FC United" Curran might begin to find the new league a bit difficult with those attributes, though. What's the tactic that you are using for this save, by the way? Yeah, he may well find it a step too far. We will see. I play a 4-5-1 with a flat back four, a DM, two MC, an AML & AMR and a striker as an Advanced Forward. Hootieleece
So your playing a 4-1-2-3 Wide? That would be my guess with the positions of the players. 7 hours ago, DazRTaylor said: Yeah, he may well find it a step too far. We will see. It can be devastatingly effective on the counter with a DLP-D in the middle and ML an MR W's on the Wings, The Striker should be a PF-S so he doesn't get to lonely. DazRTaylor
Yeah the tactics screen describe it as a 4-1-2-3 wide, though I have always called it 4-5-1 for some reason. I hadn’t thought of that, no. I will use it in some friendlies I think and report back how I get on. Or when we struggle, which we will in League One! Hootieleece
How are you getting such offers? When I play a Lower league club my best players usually only reap under $1million dollar offers. I only get really big offers for true wonderkids.

Then when another club offers the same, I talk them higher and cancel the first. Eventually it ceilings out. I am League One now and this wasn't even the biggest sale in the division. DazRTaylor
Youth Candidates Season 2027/28 FC United of Manchester Yeah, right. This is a real "Golden Generation" isn't it? Dear me. I am looking for another Head of Youth Development as this one has been a disaster.
Adonalsium
Jeez, a guy called Dylan Fowler is really just about the worst possible name you could have for a defender, isn't it? Edited May 3, 2020 by Adonalsium
Hootieleece
Not a "Golden Generation" but FIVE 3.5-4 Star POTENTIAL players (based on the ability of your current squad) means you should be able to find a starter out of the bunch (with training and time). You could be upset with the positions and personalities but in raw potential that is a decent to good youth intake.
DazRTaylor
End of Season Review Season 2027/28 FC United of Manchester League Table - We were in the automatic promotion places until April, when our form dropped away. I can't be anything but delighted with our season though, to make the play offs. Play Offs - We scraped past AFC Wimbledon in the semi final, 4-3 on aggregate, setting up a play off final against Colchester United. With the score 2-2 after extra time, it went to penalties and we held our nerve to win 4-2 and gain promotion to the Championship. League Fixtures 1, 2 & 3 - We started the season in superb form, going unbeaten for seventeen matches. F. A. Cup - We were very poor this year, losing in the second round in the replay at Swindon, having been held at home. Carabao Cup - No cup run this year as Championship side Hull City hammered us 3-0 in the first round on Humberside. leasing.com Trophy - We made it out of the group this year, thanks to two penalty shoot out wins, though our luck ran out in the second round, losing on penalties to Tranmere Rovers. Pre Season Friendlies - An excellent pre season with just the one defeat. Squad - They continue to improve and are playing above their level. Squad Dynamics - The harmony amongst the squad is excellent. Transfers In - None. Transfers Out - One big sale as described earlier is the obvious highlight, though a few youngsters who were not going to make it were allowed to leave, together with some others out on loan. Youth Candidates - I was promised a "Golden Generation" and I got nothing of the sort. The worst intake to date with Dylan Fowler YP28115 the best of a disappointing group. Finances - Whilst we are in a good state, the board are spending just under £3 million on facility improvements. Key Players Anthony Connelly YP23F38 - The striker, despite not being a natural finisher, continues to score for fun. He scored an astonishing 48 goals in his 54 appearances this season. Lewis Thomas YP26A81 - Now a natural on the right wing, he had a terrific season. Amadou Kanteh YP24D52 - Full Gambian international who can play in either central midfield or central defence. Normally in the back four, he marshalls the defence well. Kieran McKay YP24C51 - Playing in central midfield, the Scottish Under 21 international had a good, though not great season. Ryan Jackson YP23E37 - Plays the holding role in midfield so well, he is an automatic selection. Next Season Survival. Somehow.
