Chris_Kenobi
Now its been a long time since I've posted on the forums - they look at hell of a lot different than I remember. Anyway I got hold of my copy of fm 09 today and loaded it up all fine and dandy, Now that I am playing on powerful machine I'd thought I'd load up all the leagues/countries possible as it would of brought my old laptop to its knees. It caught my interest that its was taking its time to load - compared to what I was expecting. To my surprise it was only using one core. So my question is why is there no multi core support? Both Intel and AMD's line is exculsively multi core chips(Phenom/Phenom 2 for AMD and Core 2/Core i7 for intel) and any pc you build or buy will have more than one core, it is also standard in nearly all games now. Jonfun1980
Have you got the threading button ticked? How do you find out how many cores it is uning? I got a quad core and I don't think it uses all 4 of them.
Chris_Kenobi
You can check core usage in Task Manager hit Ctrl-Atl-Del to bring it up. Yes threading is checked
Wakers
Interestingly, problems with the threading code are what cause the random freezes that a lot of us are having problems/annoyances with. Who knows what else is wrong with the threading code, but this years version is definitely a lot clunkier and less responsive than last years, both in and out of games, when it really shouldn't be. Kees04
I just loaded a saved game and had distinct movement on all of my cores.
Jonfun1980
Is there any way to get FM to use more ram and cpu, I am hardly using anything at the moment.
Kees04
I just loaded a saved game and had distinct movement on all of my cores. Just to clarify this, I am continuing in my game, minimising a checking 'windoze' task manager. Core 1 spiked at around 30%, core 2 60%, core 3 95% & core 4 65%. RICO
Threading is only used within game and not during the setup of a new game. Also I think threading is only used when calculating full detail matches but I may be wrong.
Jonfun1980
Yeah my game is on holiday at the moment with 60 leagues running, CPU usage is moving between 26 - 40. All 4 cores are moving for me. Memory only using 2.13 gb out of 8gb.
Kotoro
I think you can go to Task Manager, go to the fm.exe process and then set the priority to 'high'. That should make it run faster and assign it more RAM....I think.
Jonfun1980
done that already there is a option for real time, what does that mean?
RICO
It won't make alot of difference. Basically Windows will compare the priority of the fm.exe to other processes with the same priority demanding cpu power. It will only make a noticeable difference if you have another cpu hungry app loaded at the same time. Not a good idea to use real time, may make Windows unresponsive. Indi75
It's clearly heavier on one core than another and the core loads fluctuate. This is true of both Dual and Quad core. As yet FM categorically does not make best use of either configuration. Fm will use whatever resources are available but the O/S is defning the loads rather than FM being coded to thread them. RICO
FM does max out all cores equally when processing matches. It does not use mutiple cores whilst setting up a whole new game though.
