First of all - if you don't want to lose hours of work  - make backups and use incremental saves

Use save...as and rename your file to project001, project002 etc.

(Whatever name you are using, the important part is the incremental number)

After every session backup your file(s) on a USB stick or a cloud service like dropbox or mega.nz, which offers free space. Or use google or apple cloud, if you already have an account.

That way you always could go back to an earlier version or load a backup, if a file is corrupted or some changes do not work as intended.

How do I download the editor for Football Manager through Steam?

You need to download it separately through Steam. It can be found in the Tools section within Steam. To get to it do the following;

Open Steam -> Library -> All Games -> Tools -> Football Manager Editor. And then Install”.

Where Can I find the Editor?

If installed using steam the editor can be found: C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Football Manager 20xx\Tools\

If installed on Mac it can be found: /Users/*YOURUSERNAME*/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/football manager 20xx/tools/

Where Should I save files to?

Whether you have created the files yourself or downloaded them they need to be placed in the following locations for them to be loaded into the game.

PC – Documents > Sports Interactive > Football Manager 2020 > editor data

Due to a change on Mac OSX with Catalina regarding permissions, Sports Interactive made a substantial change to how Mac FM documents are stored. Previously the files would automatically be generated in the Documents folder here:
Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Documents/Sports Interactive

Now the files will instead appear in the following location:

Mac - Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2020 > editor data

By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:
Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2020’

How can I remove a transfer embargo?

This example is for the Chelsea transfer embargo

1. Select Database > Clubs

2. Search for Chelsea by name (their ID is 630 to avoid confusion)

3. Select Finances > General

4. Delete the dates entered in the following fields: Transfer Embargo Start Date, Transfer Embargo End Date, Transfer Embargo Appeal Date

5. Select File > Save Editor Data As... > [save the file in the default location]

6. Start a new game but select the file from the top right dropdown menu at the first step

You should then have a new save game where Chelsea don't have a transfer embargo.

When you suddenly are missing fields in the editor

Check the lower left corner. It says Filter.
If Active Fields Only is checked, uncheck it and you will have a fully functioning editor again.
