Determination dropping due to 'personal issues'

I had one of my players determination attribute suddenly drop from 16 to 6 because of 'personal issues', according to a news item. I've never had this happen to a player before in any FM, is the drop always permanent or can the attribute recover back up again later (the player resolving the 'personal issues')? Practically that's the difference now between keeping the player or replacing him...

I would suggest that a fall of that size would have to be a short term issue that will revert to normal once the personal issues are dealt with
