Events Diary Disappears After Continue Button

Hi............. New to the game and the forum... hope I'm in the right place.

After I press the continue button an events diary appears at the top of the screen and seems to update... It then disappears before I can read it and take it all in..

Is this how its supposed to happen?

If so, is there anyway that I can choos to retain it on screen long enough to read it?

If you click on the date at the top-right of the screen, it'll show you it.
