It's time for the January answers! As always, I'll do one post per question, with the wait between questions being the length of time it takes me to type something coherent, and then we'll have a leaderboard at the end, after which I'll be posting the February questions!

Firstly, we need to talk about @bdcuk. Upon initial review of his answers this round, I quickly decided that it should not fall to me to have to score such filth - it is instead a task much more suited to Mrs Wigmore. She will be scoring bdcuk's answers, deducting points where she feels a line has been crossed in terms of the boundaries of normal social convention.

I can therefore confirm that after January, bdcuk is currently on a total of minus 5 points.... which is pretty disappointing if you ask me.

Question 1: We start this year's quiz with one of the stranger OTF moments of the year. A new user by the name of Jacqueline, who apparently is a primary school teacher, signed up to the forum in January specifically to ask if it bothers us that she doesn't let her children do what during lessons?

A relatively easy starter. This was so utterly bizarre that it is rather difficult to forget.

The answer was of course go to the toilet! Even more strangely, Jacqueline signed up to several other Internet forums around the same time to make exactly the same post. I got my eye on you Jay Quellin.

Almost everybody got it right, and it is easier for me to tell you who, of the 26 entries this round, failed to get to the heart of the matter. They are @Mr_Demus (Eat), @Deisler26 (Play FM), @Anti Spiral (Talk to the opposite sex), @bdcuk (filth), @Sons FC and @gechal (Use their phones).

To the rest of you, well done and congratulations - you're off to a flying start!

Question 2: Hodgy astutely noted in January that Snickers were running one of those promotions where the name "Snickers" on the chocolate bar itself was replaced with another word. For a point each, can you name the three names he got?

A tough question. You need to have absolutely no life at all to remember a post about Snickers bars on an Internet forum 11 months ago - so on that basis I have to say that I am surprised that nobody did very well on this.

On 07/01/2018 at 00:27, Hodgy said:

So I thought I'd grab myself a snickers but I got miffed instead...

Miffed, Grouchy and Sleepyhead were the answers we were looking for here! Nobody got all 3, nobody even got 2, but @Sons FC, @SouthCoastRed and @Anti Spiral got some nuts on this question by scoring a point each.

Interesting, incorrect and repeatable answers included Misogyny, Idiocy, Gizzyshambles, Dave, Horny, Little Mix Girls and my favourite of the lot, "FOOD FOR FATTIES".

Question 3: Where did it snow in January that Mr Adam blamed on Brexit, Trump or the government?

Reading between the lines, this question essentially is "Where did it snow where it is unusual for snow to occur?", so I'm at a complete loss as to why three separate people went for "Sunderland" here.

Not sure if I blame Brexit or Trump but it’s definitely the fault of the government.

We were looking for the Sahara Desert! It's normally hot and sunny there you see, unlike Sunderland.

Blizzarding in with correct answers to this question are @Ackter, @Scott1892, @ham_aka_stam, @georginho_juventusygr, @tfell and @daylight.

Congratulations to @Pukey with his idea that Mr Adam was blaming Brexit for it snowing in his own house.

Question 4: Who was the subject of the first "RIP" post of 2018 on OTF?

Who doesn't love a RIP post on OTF? Sharing memories of a lost idol, talking about what the recently deceased person meant to you, waiting for Ackter to come in and tell everyone he's never heard of the person - it's just a wonderfully fulfilling time.

We are Motorhead, we play Rock 'n' Roll

Fast Eddie Clarke died on 10 January this year, sparking our first RIP thread of the year. With my apologies to fans of Motorhead, I hadn't heard of him until researching this quiz. Sorry!

@ham_aka_stam and @Anti Spiral were the only correct answers here, congratz!

@The Rebel MC went for "Common Sense", which actually died on 8 November 2016.

Question 5: What unusual new IKEA advertising strategy did LilSaint describe as "a wee bit strange" in January?

This was a wee bit strange. A... wee... bit strange.

Wee.

Ikea released a new advertisement that encourages pregnant women to pee over the page to reveal a discount on a baby crib.

I imagine the cashiers at their warehouses will love receiving these coupons :D

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/jan/10/ikea-invites-customers-to-pee-on-this-ad-to-check-for-pregnancy-and-a-crib-deal

Come on guys, of course it was an advertising campaign whereby pregnant women pee on a magazine to reveal discounted baby cribs! What else could it be! Duh!

@dafuge, @sebsy, @Confused Clarity and @daylight tested positive for one point on this question.

Incorrect answers included "flat pack houses", "urinal cakes" and "free razorblade in every hundredth meatball".

But wait! An answer to this question is my favourite all time Big Fat Quiz incorrect answer ever! @Sons FC inexplicably offered "Chickens and Sustainability" as his answer to this question. Brilliant :D

Question 6: What big news story in January did SouthCoastRed predict would cause somebody to be sacked on Monday morning as a result?

Tricky one this. This was huge news at the time, but nobody seems to remember it ever happened anymore. I guess we've got a lot going on now what with our government collapsing and everything.

It was the Hawaii accidental missile warning! If there was a missile warning here, I don't know what I'd do. Probably send the spreadsheet I'm using to keep track of this quiz to somebody in another country before I get vapourised I guess.

@Scott1892, @sebsy, @Deisler26, @Confused Clarity and @SouthCoastRed made no accident in getting this question right.

One incorrect answer may not amuse SCR, which was - "post office being shut and him not being able to get his pension". :kriss:

The best thing about this is that I dropped a hint in this thread & @ham_aka_stam messaged me to thank me for the clue because it helped him get the answer and he still got it wrong :D

Question 7: OTF aficionados will know that ham_aka_stam won a pair of trainers off of Bliss in his Christmas quiz last year, which Bliss posted to him in January. For a point each, can you name the three things he posted to ham along with the trainers themselves?

Ah, Bliss Seeker. Every forum needs a someone who is very slightly unhinged, and in Bliss we have just that.

In his first caper of the year, he sent ham some very strange things along with the prize winning trainers, let's see what they were.

It will not surprise you to learn that Bliss posted along a "Talbian's Got Talent" hand drawn cartoon, some napkins and a candle.

Nobody got the maximum 3 points on this question, which is surely rather embarrassing for both the sender and receiver of the items. But well done to the following for at least partially delving into Bliss' madness and earning themselves points:

2 points: @ham_aka_stam, @Bliss Seeker, @Confused Clarity
1 point: @dafuge, @Scott1892, @KF1990, @sebsy, @gechal, @georginho_juventusygr, @toon_84

Two people thought Bliss would put a dildo into the Royal Mail postal service. Interesting.

Question 8: Which sporting team did bdcuk describe as "abysmal" in January?

A rather incredible 15 of you seem to have forgotten the golden rule of OTF in this question. No football chat in OTF! So all of your various football teams are not worthy of points.

On 08/01/2018 at 17:07, bdcuk said:

While we were abysmal this Ashes series I don't think chopping and changing is the way to go.

We were looking for the England Cricket Team, who put up a miserable fight in the Ashes back in January - although it did eventually come to light that the Australians were a bunch of cheaters, so meh.

Six runs to @Scott1892, @mark1985, @sebsy, @The_jagster, @toon_84, @Confused Clarity and @SouthCoastRed for their correct answers.

Out for a golden duck is @grff who, when asked what sporting team was described as abysmal, replied with "darts".

Question 9: A potential remake of what "sick" game caused widespread excitement on OTF in January?

I wrote this question in January itself I think assuming the thread would die off quickly, but I think it's still pretty active to this day :D so this turned out to be an easier question than I had planned.

On 16/01/2018 at 15:14, Neil Brock said:

Anyone remember Theme Hospital? Well some of the old team from Bullfrog and Lionhead have formed a new company partnered with SEGA and have just announced this:

I used to love Theme Hospital so really looking forward to this. Albeit I was really looking forward to Planet Coaster and I've had no time to even try that yet.

It was all the way back in January when a Theme Hospital remake was announced.

17 of you are in great health in this question and get a point each.

@Bliss Seeker (Hospital Manager), @KF1990 (Bully), @Sons FC (Asteroids), @bdcuk (filth), @Pukey (Pandemic), @tfell (Half Life) and @daylight (Resident Evil 2) are terminally ill in the context of this particular question and get zilch.

Sadly based on the wording of my question I also can't accept @georginho_juventusygr and @Anti Spiral's answer of Two Point Hospital. Sorry, get well soon!

Ssshh. Don't upset @Wigmore. He's doing a fine job.

If we said Wigmore was doing a Gizzy, I reckon Wigmore might throw a proper hissy fit and delete himself.

No one wants to be compared to Gizzy, the loser.

Question 10: OTF was polled on what they would like to happen to their body after they die in January. The options were burial, cremation, something different (frozen, sent to space etc.) or feed me to the pigs. What option won, and for a bonus point can you get the % who voted for winning option to within 5%?

Ah, more death. We like talking about death now here it seems, I think we're getting old.

cpjKBw1.png

It's 2018 guys, peoples want a cremation, yeah? Saves on space, innit. 42.86% of people to be precise. Well done to the following death eaters who get points:

2 points: @Scott1892, @KF1990
1 point: @Ackter, @mark1985, @grff, @ham_aka_stam, @Bliss Seeker, @bestbrother, @The Rebel MC, @Mr_Demus, @Sons FC, @Semi Skilled Milk, @sebsy, @The_jagster, @Pukey, @tfell, @SouthCoastRed, @Anti Spiral

My deepest sympathies to Bliss Seeker and The Rebel MC who were both just 0.36% away from earning a bonus point.

And we have Round 1 in the books! Leaderboard to follow.

Round 1 Leaderboard:

oJYv4fH.png

@Scott1892 leads the way after January's round, with an impressive score of 8 points - better than 50%! But he is being chased down by both last year's winner @sebsy and runner-up @ham_aka_stam, both on 7 along with @Confused Clarity. But with everybody off the mark (with one notable exception), it's very much still all to play for.

@bdcuk finds himself propping up the table after some wholly expected indecency.

February questions coming up!

As January becomes February, the days start getting brighter, the birds start singing, and most importantly SouthCoastRed can put the electric blanket back in the loft as winter is finally ending.

Here's your February questions!

Round 2 - FEBRUARY

1. What, in February, did @Redshift describe as "a clucking shambles"?

2. For one point, this is a close up picture of what object, and for another point, which OTF user does it belong to?

image.png.e1f9075942d5ab2203583e581e3aeb03.png

3. What happened in February that lead @MoxeysTheName to issue the following apology: "Sorry about that lads, it's just that it had been a while since me and the missus had seen each other, guess we got a bit carried away"

4. What revelation in February did @arenaross suggest would cause Tommy Robinson's head to pop?

5.  @Confused Clarity went to a student pub in February and was completely baffled when the students started doing what at the bar?

6. What, in February, did OTFers variously describe as "mind blowing", "fascinating", "cool as ****" and "incredible"?

7. Can you name any of the three video games that OTFers started a dedicated thread for in February? You have 3 guesses and will get a point for each. CLUE: Two of them are actual games, one of them I'm pretty sure hasn't been made

8. A news story concerning a Welsh man who did what with a spanner sparked a puntastic OTF thread in February?

9. @PaulHartman71 complained about an major update to which app in February which lead to him being accused of being either a porn addict or a 12 year old girl?

10. Complete the pun which earned @AJJ an impressive 19 upvotes in February. "I met a transvestite from Greater Manchester today......"

A shorter deadline for this one so get your answers in as soon as you have time to, and certainly no later than 8pm on Thursday 6 December, when we'll be doing the February answers.

As always, send your answers by PM and I'll do all the sums from there.
