samwilzrhcp
But leaving pressing as "highly urgent" would have what effect exactly?
alanschu14
I imagine that players would a bit more eagerly return to the defensive shape and defensive lines/engagement lines. My understanding is counterpress is actively looking to take the ball back via aggressive pressing shortly after losing possession. If possession is not reacquired, they'll return to typical defensive shape.
FMunderachiever
They would fall back into defensive shape rather than try and immediately win the ball back, but be slightly more aggressive in leaving the shape to engage an opponent once the line of engagement is passed
jc577
What if your line of engagement maxed out? is that effectively the same as counter-pressing?
alanschu14
I imagine no. Would depend on when/where the loss of possession happened and which player (if any) happens to be closest. That said, if you have a high line of engagement you're probably not going to see much difference with counter pressing checked compared to lower lines of engagement. That said, if you want to aggressively press as much as possible, I'd still keep it checked.

No. Counter-pressing will get them to ignore their shape and rush forward. With maxed pressing they should do it more in shape.
