ipswichjon2 Posted November 21, 2018 Share Posted November 21, 2018 I usually use other people's tactics but after seeing my own might Ipswich Town rip into Reading a couple of weeks ago I was inspired to recreate that style of play in FM2019. First of all, this is very high energy, you will need players with high team work, work rate and fitness at FB, midfield and up front. The aim is to press the opposition into mistakes and create chances. I was using another tactic from here (unstoppable attacking) and another from Sigames (Quantum) which were pretty successful, but since I switched to my new tactic for the West Brom match I've been blowing teams away! Ipswich are predicted to finish 20th and have the 6th lowest budget in the division. It's okay to tweak player roles to suit your squad but keep the nature of the players role the same e.g. a deep lying playmaker set on defend can take on the role of the centre midfielder on defend. I would leave the pressing forwards alone though as their instructions and role are key to winning the ball high into enemy territory. Finally, be prepared to rotate, especially your fullbacks who cover acres of distance! Team talks I always encourage unless we're losing at half time. I never use opposition instructions. I've not been able to play for a bit due to work but I'm just about to finish season 1, we're champions on 96 points with 4 games to go. I'll update after I'm midway through season 2 and at the end of the season. I've noticed that switching between this and Quantum CS tactic (that can be found below) against lower rated teams at home is effective. Quantum CS dominates the opposition when they're weaker, my blitzkreig attack counter presses the evenly matched or better teams (which is nearly all of them) out of the game. Unbelievable result, and arguably our best performance of the season! Am looking forward to using this start of next season- so long as the latest update hasn't altered the ME significantly!! Great stuff - as I mentioned earlier, it seems to do well against better or evenly matched teams , it's when teams park the bus that the counter press fails and then I switch to the tactic I refrenced in an earlier post. I don't, in fact I look forward to these games more as it gives you a chance to blow away the opposition with the counter press. ipswichjon2 Posted December 14, 2018 Author Share Posted December 14, 2018 A good start to our Premier League campaign, only 3 defeats in 19 games and these were a narrow loss to Man City at home and Arsenal & Villarreal away. Only tweaks I've made is to player roles to suit them e.g. playing deep lying player maker role in the centre of the 3 central midfielders for Phil Billing but switching it to a BWM when a less technically adept player takes on that role. Top of the table with a team predicted to be relegated. The team stats show how well the ball is retaining possession, creating chances, winning the ball back and keeping the ball out of the net - all amongst the best in the division, but with the lowest wage budget. ipswichjon2 Posted December 26, 2018 Author Share Posted December 26, 2018 Re-tested with two massive underdogs, Macclesfield and St Mirren. Both hugely over achieved with no new signings. One small tweak was switching off get stuck in as this greatly reduced the amount of red and yellow cards. Macclesfield just failed to make the play-offs, were in contention until the last two games, St Mirren finished 3rd in the Scottish Premiership.
