Yeah since it was "market-pc" im not sure about cooling but when i looked temps they were quite low.

You obviously think it's really fast and good - so it is for you the way you want it. 

In terms of specs, they are mid-high end - so you should have no issues at all really.

I was going for a i7 9700k but I'm now going for the i9 9900k . I'm even planning on overclocking it but I know it runs hot. That plus 3200mhz RAM will mean that my game goes blisteringly fast.

I recently replaced my SDD to a Flash drive on my desktop and I can tell you FM19 advances much faster. 
I would recommend those looking to buy a machine for FM to spend their money on a flash drive over graphics card or RAM.

The SDD is a Flash drive, so not sure what you are talking about. 

And absolutely not, the difference an SSD makes over a traditional hard drive is minimial for FM. 

The graphics card and RAM are far more important - and more important than that is the Processor. 

 

You are probably experiencing an overall increase in computer performance though. SSDs are great. And if you can upgrade to an SSD then go for it.

It's hard to tell, because it doesn't specify a specific model of processor, amount of RAM, and the graphics card is mediocre.

If you can afford an extra £10 or so, I'd grab this one instead

Superb processor for FM, good graphics card, decent amount of RAM, has an SSD to boot up the laptop quickly and a big normal harddrive to store plenty of things on, and also has a similar 15.6" screen. It's a much better laptop for a small amount extra.

Sorry, the one that has an SSD was one that was about £20 more expensive.

The one you linked is good. It has slightly more memory on the graphics card, so it'd be able to run games that rely on graphics slightly better. However, it has less RAM, which, whilst less important for FM, might limit it (unless you install more RAM yourself) for other games. The processor and hard drive are otherwise the same.

I can vouch that the game does run much faster, but have no data to prove it as I no longer have the SATA SSD. 

imho a PCIe mounted SSD is a must for this game, and much moreso than investing in a graphics card.

imho a PCIe mounted SSD is a must for this game, and much moreso than investing in a graphics card.

Well, PCIe SSD is faster and a better connection with the motherboard - so perhaps the SATA SSD was causing a bottleneck somewhere in your system.

Surprised you see a big difference in FM day to day - it should only be faster load/save times - but if you're having a better experience, then that's nothing but good news.

The graphics card would only be important for the 3D matches and having more graphic detail level - so investing in a graphics card for faster gameplay was never going to do anything. 

Same advice stands - the processor is the most important thing for FM

- then RAM

- then graphics card

- then hard drive.

That website is talking nonsense. They haven't a clue what they are talking about when it comes to football manager - and then they go to say that 8gb is enough to run the game - yet the first recommendation is a laptop with 4gb RAM. 

They are ill-informed - and the graphics card is not as important as the processor. Football manager is a database processing game, the processor is the most important thing.

The SSD adds very little in terms of speed to FM - it might load a bit faster etc. but day to day gaming would be similar enough.

I just picked up a refurbished desktop on eBay for £335 from a recycling company.

• Processor: Intel i7-3930K
• RAM: 32 GB
• Graphics: Nvidia Quadro 600
• Drive: 750GB HDD

My long term aim with this is to upgrade the graphics card and to get an SSD drive. Apparently, the graphics card is good enough to play games in 3D - although it's a dud in comparison to more modern cards.

Any ideas as to how good this would be for FM? I'm currently using a laptop, with an i5 (3rd Gen), 6GB of RAM, Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics and a 250GB SSD, as my primary machine - it would be an improvement on that anyway.

It will run as much as you want - but the speed of day to day progression will get slower and slower the more career years you play. 

Basically, it should do ok - but you will have to find a balance of leagues loaded/database size to suit the speed you want to play at. 

It should be very good though and I'd imagine a large database would be no problem at all.Then again a large database with 5 leauges loaded is different to a large database with 40 leauges loaded.

Exceptionally good processor, which is most important for FM, and a medium spec graphics card, which is all you need for FM. Only down side is only 4GB RAM, but you aren't likely to get much more with a comparable processor for around £500.

They are both under spec for FM - FM requires 1.8ghz or faster processor in the Apple Mac computers. These only go up to 1.6ghz.

That being said - they probably will run it ok. But beware they are under spec.

 

I'd highly recommend spending that money on a laptop.

Adequate - I wouldn't be loading too many leagues and sticking to a small or medium database - with graphics settings in the game set to low/mid level. 

Other than that - it will work - how well it will work is unknown and up to you on how fast day to day progress is important to you, if you were to load more leagues and larger database etc.

Just a heads up, I bought this laptop this week, and it is running FM superbly, I have a large database with all the big leagues loaded with all feeder leagues.  I bought it from Box, piece of advice, mine came pre-loaded with McAfee which throttled the hell out of it, but once I deleted that and installed the free Bullguard that came with it, then it's a great laptop for this price.

I've reconsidered my budget, 600-650...is there significant difference in Intel & NVIDIA vs AMD/Ryzen/Radeon setups as they both have a similar price point in the Asus TUF gaming range.. Also the Acer looks good spec.

I've had my laptop for 10 years now, I've been wanting to replace it for the last few years but personal circumstances have prevented this and also cut down on my FM time anyway. Not really played a proper game of FM since FM15!

Anyway, I'm looking for a new laptop, hence my post in this thread. Whilst I have every intention of using it solely for FM, it's likely that it will also get used by my partner for work (Word etc, nothing too strenuous) and also for browsing the web/playing videos from YouTube etc. Possibly even the occasional live-stream. If my partner was ever to play a game on the laptop, it would likely be The Sims...!

You're spot on, more expensive doesn't mean better, more expensive could mean portablity over performance, or performance over portability - or a dozen other things, like screen size, battery life, hard drives, graphics cards etc.

Out of those it so happens, the one for 729 is better - and your 8% discount gets you the computer for £670.71 (if my calculations are right)

Anywho - as your top computer was priced at 849.99 with an 8% discount = 789.99

Would I be right to say that the only major differences between the £729 one I posted and the £650 one you shared is the processor? I'm assuming the processor on the £729 one is still good enough? The only other difference that I can see is the battery life - spec claims that £729 has up to 10 hours whilst the £650 is 3-4. I think I would prefer the battery life but if the processor is light years ahead on your suggestion I could plump for that.

Go for the one with better battery life then. As that would make more sense for you. 

The £729 is the winner. 

For the record, the processors, in FM terms, are roughly the same performance.

I've been battling away on FM for years but despite only generally playing English League (conference south to prem) and generally being happy on 2d (maybe watch the odd replay on 3d) the thing is slower than me running the marathon!

Budget is abit n the tight side, maybe £450-600, any advice would be very welcome. Anything to stop my season being about 10 hours would be a bonus!

I have been looking for a new laptop (current one is approx 6 years old, and running much slower than it used to). I only really use it for FM, films, netflix, the odd bit of work etc, nothing too strenuous.

Same high quality processor as the Curry's laptop (which is better than the PC World one, has a better processor, which is important for FM), but has more SSD high speed disk space, and a better graphics card. It'll run FM19 like a dream with more than 5 nations quickly if you wanted to increase the number of leagues/nations you use, including in 3D, and will play most new AAA games at medium/high graphics too.
