That would be ok, but for a small increase in price (£10 approx), this one is actually better:

https://www.box.co.uk/7DC73EAABU-HP-255-G7_2580199.html

My own laptop has that same processor, and it runs FM pretty quickly and the integrated graphics will be better than on the intel.

Just before I order the one discussed above, I noticed this as a refurbished unit and wondered would it be worth the extra £100 or so for a much smoother experience, again based on maybe 4-5 countries, full leagues and large DB. Don't mind about the 3d match engine but maybe this would allow a more indulgent experience?

Cheers.

The links not working.

Based on the description though, not sure it's worth paying an extra £100 for if you're only going to play FM.  The CPU looks a bit better, but I think that one uses a Hard Drive whereas the one at box uses an SSD which will make things quicker on its own.

You also don't need a dedicated GPU for FM.

The other consideration is I believe laptops direct only offer a 3 month warranty on their refurb units, which I'd be wary of.

If you want to look at refurb units, look at http://www.laptopstation.co.uk who offer a 12 month warranty on refurbed laptops.

that help mate ?

That should be fine. Have you double checked to ensure your graphics drivers are fully up-to-date? Additionally, make sure that your laptop is using the Geforce graphics card, and not the processor's integrated graphics in error.

Well after 10 years, my Mac has decided to bite the dust and am on the look out for a replacement. I've came across this one but am just wondering if this would be able to handle FM2020 on highest  3D graphics settings?

Also usually play with 7-9 leagues loaded and a large database with facepacks etc...

Apple iMac (21.5-inch Retina 4K display, 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB Fusion Drive)

  • 21.5-inch (diagonal) 4096x2304 Retina 4K display
  • Quad-core 8th-generation Intel Core i3 or 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i5 processor
  • Radeon Pro 555X or 560X graphics processor

Fairly clueless when it comes to the above so any feedback will be appreciated.

Cheers.

I always say - a Mac of most configurations will be fine.

But for less money you can buy a Windows PC/Laptop for cheaper - with much better specs.

If you want to spend the money on the Mac - go for the i5 procesor - and the 560x is a slightly better graphics card.

Get 8gb RAM - but you can order RAM for much cheaper to bring it up to 16gb - which I recommend - don't add RAM on the Mac site - it's a rip-off. You can buy it yourself, and there's easy access panels to replace it.

Much better than any Mac you could buy for that price.

So having done some more thinking and browsing I've found these two and debating about getting one of them as they're touchscreen but want to make sure they're decent enough to handle FM20?

Hi Everyone ,

Will the laptop linked below play football manager 2020 in 3D?

Im planning to play just play one league at a time with a large db with a few extra nations loaded.

Thanks in advance

Hi Guys,

Can you advise the best option from the following please, play 4 leagues with large database and 3d

https://www.very.co.uk/asus-fx705dt-au042t-amd-ryzen-5-8gb-ram-512gb-ssd-nvidianbspgtx-1650-4gb-graphics-173-inch-thin-bezel-pc-gaming-laptop-black/1600370362.prd

https://www.box.co.uk/FX504GD-E41275T-ASUS-TUF-FX504GD-E41275T_2458989.html

Top option has poorer processor but better graphics card than bottom option

Would be interested in opinions on how much impact this would have as would like the larger screen but dont want to compromise performance too much

If you're purely talking FM, then the CPU is what you need to be considering more, so you'd want the one from Box with the Intel CPU as it has the better single core performance according to the benchmarking sites.

If you're playing other games as well, it's a harder one to call. Although the graphics card in the Box one is still very good.

is this the best “cheapest” that will play fm20 to a decent enough standard?

Depends on how many leagues you plan to run, database size etc.

It will run FM reasonably well if you're not pushing too hard in that regard.

But, I think you're correct in that you'd be hard pushed to find something better at that price point.

I only play with English leagues from league 2 upwards on large will that be ok?

Would the graphics be good then even if only 2gb graphics?

For FM, yes. When it comes to FM, a dedicated graphics card is not important.  I was playing FM19 on a laptop with integrated graphics and it ran smoothly even at high graphics quality settings.

If you're also playing other games then you will need to consider a dedicated graphics card. But if FM is the only game you play then you will easily do without it.

Looking for a new machine to play FM as the old one sadly died on holiday this year!

Trouble is, I need a screen size 13 inch or under but many specs leave a lot to be desired. I have considered moving to an Apple MacBook Air as my iPhone and iPad have been fab (and I’m sick of windows updates) but have heard they are not good for running FM? Can anyone give an opinion on this?

If not a M.Air, then any other suggestions for a windows machine that would be suitable? Looked at the Dell XPS 13 but just under a grand seems pricey for what it is...

13.3” is fine. That looks great on specs thanks.

Only other thing is that I’ve had a few bad experiences with HP in the past. Could give them another go though.

I'm not very well versed with Macs, but it's only a 6th generation I5 which is a little outdated these days.

Ok scrap that idea then! Finally, today I’ve had a look at some of the 15.6” machines, and noticed many offer dedicated graphics cards for roughly the same price e.g. https://www.box.co.uk/FX504GD-E41275T-ASUS-TUF-FX504GD-E41275T_2458989.html

My question is: if I could put up with the bigger size, what kind of advantage does this give me in terms of running games? Will it be significantly better than the HP 13” laptop highlighted earlier or not much difference?

Thanks for all the advice, very helpful!

For running games, this will be a huge improvement. It has dedicated graphics which is required for many modern games, of course it does depend what games you're thinking of playing.

For example, this system would probably handle Fallout 4 quite nicely but I'm not sure the GPU would handle the upcoming PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

It would be very good for FM though!

I'd probably go for the Ryzen one of the two. Slightly higher base clock speed and more RAM.  They are both pretty decent though.

Posted this in the FM19 Performance thread but it's probably better off in here.

Getting that itch to upgrade again after managing to sell all my parts (including a i9 9900k). I made a loss of around £80 in total because I didn't return the items quick enough, so I had to sell them all on ebay

I only play FM and that's it, I would be upgrading exclusively for FM, I don't use a PC for much else really, browsing, iTunes etc just standard stuff. I have no plan to play any other game, I prefer consoles and will buy the PS5.

Considering the AMD 3900x but again it seems like Intel reigns supreme for exclusively FM, so again probably only considering either the i9 9900k or the i7 9700k. Not sure if there's much point in buying the i9 over the i7 really, over £100 difference between the two and the i9 runs very hot. GPU I had lined up was the GeForce 1660 but that's very much overkill for FM. The reason for this is mostly because I plan to get around 6 or 7 years out of this system without upgrading like I have with my current system (i7 3770, 8GB initially but upgraded to 16 recently, GeForce GT 640 which is now very old).
