Merging U20 and U18

I'd like to reduce my youth system, to save resources. I wonder what happens if I move all U18 into U20 and fire all U18 staff and deadwood players.

Has anyone tried this, or can share some thoughts on why this is a good or bad idea? Thanks.

Do the under 18s play in any league or other tournaments?  -there may be issues if they do.  If you amalgamate the squads, you are going to find it difficult to give any sort of game time to all those players and you run the chance of quality under-18 youngsters not being developed properly.  You will certainly save money if your finances are an issue, but I would suspect that in the long run, this would not be a beneficial move.

I'd rather sell my best players than do this. But I am a manager who likes to build via my youths.
