New Laptop/PC- Help Needed

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

Looking at getting a new laptop for FM19, I don’t have a clue about computers but I want to run FM with  many leagues and large database.

At the moment I have an Alienware laptop but find it very slow when I’ve my leagues loaded I think I get a two star rating.

What is important when picking out a laptop for FM? Processor? Ram?

Appricate if anyone can help me out  budget would be under €1,500

Thanks

It will.  How well is hard to say but my old gtx 760 2gig graphics card can run FM19 on higher settings than on FM18

I’m not too bothered about lots of detail, as long as it can run smoothly with good graphics?

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I really need your help because I would like to buy a new laptop (I prefer a 2 in 1, but a 14 inch notebook could be ok) to watch Netflix, surf on the web, play Spotify and...play Football Manager 2018 and 2019. Until now I've used a notebook Samsung Np350v5 and FM runs smoothly. It has to be said that I play with 5-6 nations for a total of 12-13 leagues with big database and only 2d during the match. Don't has to be fast as a click, I just don't want overheat problems. In case I can't play the standard version I could also choose to play with the Touch version. My budget is 300 pounds. I was looking at this options:

Asus t103ha

https://www.asus.com/2-in-1-PCs/ASUS-Transformer-Mini-T103HAF/

Lenovo Ideapad 120s

https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-100-series/Ideapad-120S-11-Intel/p/88IP10S0891

Thank you!

They're not great options.

Hi Smurf, Thanks for the reply.

I want to pick up the game and laptop on 2nd November. If you have a chance would you be able to pick the best laptop for FM from these sites.

https://www.currys.ie/ieen/index.html

https://www.harveynorman.ie/

I just want a laptop for FM and small bit of browsing, something that will run FM on large database with many leagues fast and processing times.

Thanks

Should be ok.

@Smurf - Would a gamer laptop with Intel i7HK, GeForce 1060 (or 1070) and 512Gb SSD be overkill to play FM19, and, say, FM20?

Well - yes a bit overkill. But the more overkill the better.

I'm from Ireland too - the online laptop stores aren't great. Try Komplett.ie too.

It would depend if they're in stock - their websites are not usually in keep with their inventory, I found.

I had to go to 3 different stores to get the one that was advertised online.

Harvey Norman not coming up with anything close.

Not sure if this is the right bit on this site to post this sort of thing or not.  I am looking for a laptop that is going to be able to run Football Manager 2019 quite well and found a tool tester that said it would run quite well with regards to the information I put into it.  It said that this system should be able to play Football Manager 2019 smoothly at high settings and that the processor was 40% above specification and that the RAM is also well above the specification, however the feedback it gave me with regards to the graphics concerned me.  It stated that the graphics would be 17% less powerful than the requirements for Football Manager 2019, which has made me unsure.  So I am needing some guidance on how much of an issue this will be and possible what could be done to combat or minimise the effects that this possible issue could cause.  If you need me to provide any more information then please let me know.  Guidance on cheap laptops that will be good for running Football Manager 2019 very smoothly on will also be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

I need a new laptop

Could anyone tell me what are the most important features for a laptop to play FM ?

Is the RAM , graphic card , processor important and what is the minimum of these feature to run FM ? (for example : are 8 GB RAM enough ?)

Sorry if i have some grammar errors, english is not my first language.

I'd say processor and RAM, mostly, though a half-decent graphics card is useful. What sort of budget are you looking at?

Processor is important.

Graphics card if you want 3d matches

RAM - 8gb is fine.

Budget would up to £300 that might be too low a budget I'm unsure and I would prefer a laptop that is not pre-owned.

Here is a link to the laptop I was on about: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Inspiron-15-5567-15-6-FHD-Intel-Core-i5-7200u-1TB-HDD-Laptop-Windows-10/401619635279?hash=item5d82654c4f:g:2BcAAOSwvK1byMY0:rk:6:pf:0

Yeh it would play it ok - not the best - but with a budget of £300 you aren't going to get something amazing.

3D matches set to low quality,

hmm ok, thank you for the information.  Something I will have to look into.

Do - because you spend 300 now, and in 12 months time you'll spend another 300. And in all that time you could have bought a laptop for 600 and have it run FM fine for longer than 5 years.

Well it's a lighter version of the game - sorry I'm not familiar with it to be honest. I wouldn't have a clue.

OK, I think I remember using the touch version briefly during Football Manager 2017 and all I remember is it did seem quicker but as for having an impact and that I don't really have much idea as I was and clearly still am not that versed up on specifications and that.

That one only has intergrated graphics, not a dedicated graphics card, so it'll run the game, but you want a graphics card if you want to play other games, or a decent frame rate in 3D in FM19.

I need some advice with regards to my current pc, I am not too clued up on these things and would really appreciate some assistance:

Current PC which is 6 years old:

Intel (R) Core TM I5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHZ

Ram 6 Gig

64 Bit

Two graphics cards: Intel HD graphics and Nvidia GT620

Processing time is very slow and 3D match runs on the low setting only but still a bit choppy. The graphics display is rated as one star. I play Pro Cycling manager without any problems which I find strange.

Any suggestions as to how I should go about improving performance or should I just buy a new PC, if so what type of processor and graphics card? I don't want to break the bank.

Thank you.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help give me some advice on choosing an SSD. I’m currently looking at getting the laptop in the link below and wasn’t sure what SSD to go for. Trying to read into them compared to HDD, am i just better getting an SSD instead of a HDD? Or is it good to have both? I only really play FM and the odd few other games.

Any advice is appreciated.

I only have one league playable, with usually a medium sized database

Match engine 3D, although not bothered about quality as long as it's not jumpy

Any recommendations / suggestions?

SSD isn't that important for FM - in fact has no bearing on day to day game play.

However, they are pretty good for installing your operating system on - it gives  you faster boot times, and also helps with day-day computer runnings.

Ok, think i might just get a 1TB HDD and a 128gb SSD then. So get OS installed on to SSD and just install FM and any other games on the HDD?
