I'm in Ireland too - and I feel your pain!

The first one is the better option

That one is now out of stock damn. Any other options for €700?

This any good? Trying to get the best money for value laptop I can get, as long as it runs FM decent and maybe view in 3d that's all i'm looking for, not a super fast machine just decent.

Hi Smurf,

I´m looking for a laptop to play FM on, nothing else.
Is this worth the 1150 pounds it costs in Norwegian Kroner?

15.6 "Full HD 120Hz display with 72% NTSC matt screen
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB with support for DirectX 12
Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz processor with Hyper-Threading, 4 cores / 8 threads
7th gen. Intel chipset

2x8 GB DDR4 2400mHZ SO-DIMM
Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe PCIe M.2

Thanks, and keep up your excellent work.

Which is it?

Even better if you take a photo and post it.

I'd put processors with a "T" in the same vein as the "U" processors.

I may be wrong - I don't look at desktop processors enough. But on the surface it will perform well.

There's a couple of expansion slots - which means you could probably get a graphics card installed at a later date - along with a SSD drive.

Not bad - but I'd be concerned on processor performance.

Hi mate thanks for the info I know you said you weren't too clued up the desktops but would you say this is a better machine?

Bit much and not the prettiest haha. Just went for the HP 250 G6, I'm sure it will do the job for 600. Appreciate your help big time, learned a lot reading all of your advice over the last few days (even if I went for a U processor in the end)

There is one big difference between FM 2017 and FM 2018, it's all 3D now.

You can't turn 3D off anymore.

This is the reason way a lot of older computers can't run FM 18 and had no problem with FM 17.

Most of the times it is due a graphic card that can't handle 3D.

Hi smurf

I am looking for a laptop to run fm18

budget at most £450-£475

i would only be using it for fm and would want it to perform at at least 3.5 stars with 4 nations loaded

mine is currently struggling with fm18 massively but it is 3 years old so the processor is slow, 1 star with just Germany loaded

The graphic engine is 3D only now, there is a 2-D view, but no 2D anymore.

Does this mean a laptop with only integrated gfx will struggle even only with 2D, or only 3D highlights?

With newer integrated graphic cards it should be no problem. With older cards you should first try the demo.

If you run FM 17 only on 2-D because it does not run well on 3-D, FM 18 might be not run at all.

I have a weird laptop that's pretty GPU-heavy, got a great price on it about two years ago, but I find it's a bit "in-between" - not good enough to run modern console games at more than the lowest settings, not that good with FM either (though the match engine is no problem).

CPU is generic laptop, i5-5200u. I like to run a lot of leagues, my setups never get worse than 2 or 3 stars but it doesn't perform the way I'd like - and honestly, FM17 was even worse for me.

Looking at a desktop prebuild with a Ryzen 5 1400 - will an average, no bells-and-whistles modern gaming desktop totally shred through FM on an average setup? Off the top of my head I use like 15-20 leagues and 50000-ish players. How fast does FM really go on a decent machine? I'm sick of waiting through processing, but I don't want to pay a lot of money for only a modest performance upgrade on FM, even if I'll use it for other stuff too

Last question before I take the plunge. I'm torn between the ASUS ZX553UD-DM-968T and the DM-969T the only difference I think being either an i5 and i7.

Most comparison reviews are pretty much summed up by a recent PC Mag review which said " i5 is made for mainstream users who care about performance and i7 is made for enthusiasts and high end users".

So as I only play FM and browse the tinternet I'm leaning towards the i5 but would appreciate other people's input or even if  you think FM will advance to such an extent over the next 3-5 years that an i7 is essential?

Many thanks, if it's any consolation this should be my last dumb question.

Nothing really shreds through FM, depending on your expectations of course.

That ryzen will be a lot quicker than the 5200u but you'll still be sitting through processing.

There is a benchmarking thread which should give you a clue on the effect of different CPU's have on processing speeds.

Hi. My girlfriend is planning on buying me a laptop for Christmas. However my knowledge is average at best regarding computing. I'm after a general laptop that can be used for everyday use and to play Football Manager.

I have spoken to people regarding this and generally they mentioned to get a laptop with a dedicated graphics card to ease the pressure on the laptop. Some people have recommended to get a Low End Gaming Laptop. I wondering though would I get away with Mid Range Regular Laptop something like a Acer Aspire 5 with around i5 core, 8GB RAM and a basic graphic card or it is just better to get a gaming laptop.

Also I think she going to plan to pay some towards it then finance rest of it.

If anyone could recommend some sites to buy from or laptops to look at. That be appreciated. Think she aiming around £500-700 max.

The best laptop I found at the moment is this one http://ao.com/product/9s716jd32225-msi-laptop-black-52797-251.aspx#financeTab

Basically after a laptop that's gonna to give me a good few years of usage and won't cause issues within a few years with future FM games.

Typical, I found out what to buy and where, went to purchase today and the prices have shot up, by £100, and even the alternative by £80! So can anyone advise on the best time to buy?

I'm guessing towards the end of month but not sure as it's Christmas? I'm looking to buy from saveonlaptops.com

I'm buying a pc for purposes other than FM.  Standard specs: core I-5 7200u, 8 gb ddr4, ssd, etc.

question is, it comes with a NVIDIA GeForce 930M

is this capable of running graphics 3d matches in FM18?

yep, just don't expect miracles, but low to medium should run fairly smooth for sure.

3-5 years?! definitely get the i7, but essentially you'll find even the best cpu today will be overtaken quickly in a year or so...

I'm currently struggling with my laptop on fm18. It was fine with fm17, although trying today, the match engine was jittery and difficult to watch. I'm therefore thinking my graphics card is on its way out.

Current spec:

Hp Probook 6455b, Windows 10.

Cpu: AMD Phenom II  N620 2.8GHZ

8GB RAM

ATI Mobility Radeon HD4200

I don't have a massive budget for a replacement. I was looking at these.

Right my boyfriend told me he wanted a laptop to play football manager for Christmas so I spent many hours searching for the right spec etc and found this laptop and asked Currys whether it would play FM18 and they assured me it would! My boyfriends mum has bought him the game physically! I open the laptop up today and boom no disc drive well I've been in hysterics! Thinking I'm gonna have to take t back and find a new one! But after googling many people and my brother advise you can download FM18 without putting the disc in because once you download steam on your laptop you can put a code in from the box???? Can someone advise me whether this is correct and whether this laptop is any good to play it on??? https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-15-bw055sa-15-6-laptop-grey-10169034-pdt.html

No need to use the disk, Steam will download all the files needed with the activation code provided in the box, as for the laptop as was mentioned in your original thread it will likely struggle as it's not designed for gaming, unfortunately for under £300 I do not think you are not going to get much better than what you've already bought however it does meet the minimum requirements to run FM at the lowest settings.

What you could do is install the Steam client, create an account & download the demo version of FM18, if your brother plays FM ask him to offer an opinion by playing it for a while.

In addition if you decide to keep the laptop it is worth spending time to remove all the crap that Curry's & HP have installed under the pretence of aiding performance & usability, it's all needless crap that just slows things down. You might know someone you can help on what can be safely uninstalled & if you don't google should or even regulars in this thread.

Bit of a basic question but I’ve got a Samsung monitor, and looks like it can run with a hdmi cable but when I plug one in the screen seems to run in analog, is there anything I can do so it uses the hdmi cable (this is with a desktop pc)

It’s still the same processor but there might be a better option with the larger budget, will have a look during my lunch break if someone else hasn’t already posted an alternative.

Had a nightmare. So around a month ago I was looking for a new laptop, I came on here asking for help and ended up purchasing this; http://www.argos.co.uk/product/7253180

Unfortunately last night, my car was broken into and stupidly I had left my laptop bag in the boot :( they took it as well as my football bag.

What would you guys recommend me to buy? I paid £800 for this, it has gone up in price and ideally I wanted to pay as little as possible, obviously I want as just as good as machine, what would you guys recommend please?

Kind Regards as always! Rob

There will be a way to switch between inputs, like on my monitor I can flick between HDMI/DVI/VGA. Usually just a matter of a pressing a labelled button on the monitor, but you may need to look up the instructions for your particular model.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I have just done a little research and apparently the screen is extremely poor :(
