If yo  get a laptop with no real graphics card and only Intel graphics can you turn off the 3d match engine and enjoy the rest of the game more or less as normal?

I suppose the more graphicy of the two 2d engines wouldn't work either.

But if you used the most basic version of dots will the game otherwise run fine? I'm. Considering the new Dell xps 13

Hi,

haven't played much in recent years, but am looking to start again. Narrowed my search down to two laptops - could anyone recommend which would be better for FM?

ASUS F556uq, I7-6500U, 8 gb ddr 4 ram, geforce 940mx with 2 gb ddr 3, 512 gb ssd

or

Acer E5-575G-54ZH, i5-6200U, 16gb ram ddr 4 ram, geforce GTX950M with 2 gb ddr 5, 96 gb ssd + 2 tb 5400 rpm hdd

Both come in roughly at the same price and will be used for allround use + playing FM.

Any advice greatly appreciated - thanks!

I'd go with the ASUS, mostly because I have good experience with those and bad experience with Acer and also it has a slightly better CPU. The one downside might be that it only has the SSD and if you are usually having lots of games and large softwares installed you might run out of space. The acer one got the better graphics card though.

Hi, sorry for possibly repeating previous questions but I'm looking for a laptop ideally around/ under £400. Don't want anything too crazy but I'd like to be able to run some games like FM, Minecraft and more intensive games like CS but nothing more than that. Along with the basic word processor and Internet browsing.

Hi! I tried to email you but didn't get an answer... I need to buy a new laptop, and will have to go with an under 13" small laptop.

Can someone clearly say if the new cherry-trail Atom processors, like the Z8350 can run FM17 full game, even if at a lower speed? It has a Intel HD Graphics 400  which is, by far, superior than the GMA x3100 stated as min. required.

The thing is, you guys put as Pentium 4 or superior, but the atom line was not in the same line. Although the newer Atom models are superior than any Pentium 4, and support more recent technologies, it is really hard to tell what do you mean as superior.

Thank you! My laptop purchase is on hold until I can clear this out!

Cheers

Hi @Salo187....while on the face of things , the new cherry trail processors seem to have the right specs, they are very much designed for very light tasks at best and the processing required on FM would push them to beyond their limits imo, I wouldn't recommend it at all, in probably the strongest terms I could.

It may well end up being you try the demo and it works, but really, I'd stay way clear... they are designed for tablets and convertibles at best.

There are several posted on this thread that meet your specifications... even some on this very page a few posts up..

Sorry everyone i' m not very teccy.

My usual laptop has stopped working. I have loaded the FM16 demo on to a older machine  &It is running okay, but the demo looks to be a stripped back version I.e. No editor & only English Leagues.

So if my laptop will run the demo will it handle the full fat version or is the full fat bigger & possibly mean the laptop won't handle it.

Thanks @Welshace, but I just can't see it so simple. Matter of fact, atom evolved a lot (see where they stand in benchmark tests), being well above most penryn-gen cpus and even older/lighter core i3, both in performance and .

I realize you're saying it more out of common sense, rather than from technical data, which was what I was looking for... But again, thank you!

Fair enough,  technically speaking, it's base frequency is only 1.44Ghz, which even in optimum circumstances would be incredibly low powered.. even when boosted to it's highest possible 1.92Ghz .. it will struggle with the game, and given that it's an ultra low powered cpu designed for passively cooled tablets, anything beyond the everyday task will push it beyond it's limits and it will overheat very quickly.

Add to that, that it obviously doesn't have hyperthreading to help it's needs .. it's rated, at best, on par with a amd a4-5000 which is awful.

Again, I'd stay away.. it's for tablets.. not processor intensive games like FM that overheat the best of pc's.

Thanks for the reply WelshAce, I've had a look but honesty still don't know what to really look for and which to go for. I'm sorry for being so naive and unknowledgable on the situation. Is there any particular model you can particularly recommend or post to look at. Thanks for your time.

Hi Welshace,

Sorry to trouble you again

I just wanted your opinion, I can get the below through my work place for £799 as employees get 10% off HP products, would you say this is the best laptop to get for the price I would be paying? Or would you say the MSI I posted a few pages ago would be a better bet?

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Cheers

Andrew

Still can't decide what to go for, I've now had to cut my budget to £500/550 due to insurance not paying the full amount I thought I'd get.

I would like laptop that will breeze through seasons and play 3D matches and be able to run smoothly with facepacks and kits etc, will just play football manager and do some browsing and watching films etc

Thanks in advance for any help.

Impossible to say without knowing how big a database etc.. and pretty hard to judge anyway tbh... but it's a decent processor, and although it's a U cpu (meaning low powered) it still has a good amount of grunt to it.. 3d it should play fine, maybe not on full full detail at the highest detail, but the onboard graphics should play it fine.. facepacks and kits have very little bearing on any performance issues really... for £400 I can't find anything much better tbh

Hi @Lone Gooner .. you forgot the link to the laptop you are talking about!

Sorry about that Welshace!

Here it is:

http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=W7Q46EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

I can get it for £899 with 10% off through my works corporate discount.

Do you think this is about the same as the previous MSI posted a link to a few pages back?

Hi mate,

It's almost the exact same spec, apart from a slightly better graphics card.. and not much better considering the extra money for the HP ..

Also, personally, I find MSI to have a better build quality over all.... I'd stick with the msi..

Any you'd recommend around the £200 mark?

Graphics card or pc?

If it's graphics card.. i'd reconsider saving up slightly more and get a better pc too..

If that's £200 for a pc to play fm on, you'll struggle.. more so if you need an OS and monitor etc too.

If you are comfortable building one, I have worked out a reasonable AMD configuration for £229 inc Windows 8.

The one you are seeing for £60 is used and isnt the same spec as the link says it is... and it's not good enough for fm no.

Hi, first time post. I used to play champ mgr religiously. The last version I hammered was Fm2005 but then had kids and not played since. I was given vesion 2012 but couldn't get into it, don't think I got out of preseason! But now kids are that bit older and I have my evenings back, I thought about trying FM16 or 17. So never done 3D graphics etc - used to the commentary.

Would this laptop run FM17 ok? It is mainly for kids to do their homework and so they can play some older games on steam like Civilization IV, and for me to borrow in the evenings for FM. Or am I better spending more and getting an i5, SSD etc - if that's the case is it worth waiting for Black Friday?

Ok cheers for the pointers. Our last laptop was a Lenovo and the hinges went - apparently a common issue on Lenovo so will steer clear of them. The other's screen is too small at 12.5. Will keep an eye out over the next month as it will be xmas present so got time. Cheers

I'll only be running the top 4English leagues, La Liga, SPl & probably Italy.

The first one you could run FM twice over on, but for that money you could build your own for the same price but with a miles better graphics card i.e. GTX 1060. It sounds daunting building your own but it's really simple. Just look on youtube and take your time.

The second one should run it but I wouldn't want that AMD processor. It's really old tech now.

Yeah same again that could run it twice over especially with that i7. But for £500 I'd rather build my own and have parts that won't need upgrading for ages. I know some people don't want to though.

That GPU is the very bottom end of the 7th Gen. We are now in the 10th Gen. But if you only ever play FM then this will be more than enough. That 730 GPU is probably equivalent to the 940m/950m in laptops and that will run FM on max no problems.

Hi, is this an okay thread to ask about graphics cards?

I am considering getting a graphics card for my desktop PC.

Processor - AMD A10-Series A10-7860K 3600 MHz

Motherboard - ASUS A88XM-A

Graphics - Integrated graphics GPU Type: Radeon R7 series

Ram - 8Gb (also upping soon to 12 or 16)

I don't want to spend a fortune as FM is the only game I play and I can get a decent experience on low at the moment. £100 max, and would happily consider secondhand.

Could I get something that would significantly (subjective, I know, sorry) improve FM2017 graphics for that kind of outlay or do you have to spend much more to get a major improvement?

For example, Game Debate recommended this - Radeon HD 6850 DirectCU Edition - to improve my FM 17 experience.

I realise it will be difficult to be precise but I have zero experience with graphics cards so I'm just hoping for some ballpark -type pointers.

Cheers folks.
