@Miek in all German leagues players under 17 can't play. Save money, for better facilities you need to pay higher upkeep. Take HoyD whos favourite formaton suits your tactic to get players for positions you need.
Good luck next season!

Yikes, I was not aware of this. Thanks for pointing it out.

I'll re-read your posts in this topic. Seems like a good source of information.

Short update from me. I have been away from gaming the last month, but back in my gaming chair now.

I have decided to start from the beginning with San Marino Calcio. I failed in my first try with them and now feel really motivated to give it another try

GL to you all :)

The Year:
No big exit too halter our progress this year. We did loan out quite a few players with most going too affiliate clubs too run their contracts out. I am looking into further developing Giordano Cappelletti 27B, Matteo Correnti 28A and Luigi Bruno 29A into first team starters. Cappelletti feels like a center midfielder with higher potential than most of our starters outside Amerighi 26A. Admittedly he is a bit underdeveloped for his age, but hopefully exposure will do him good. Correnti and Bruno I have more hopes for. Correnti will hopefully emulate Pulazzi 25B at one point and Luigi Bruno 29A might grow into a even better striker than Achraf Bouayadi 24A ever was. Anyways the year was rather quiet with a 14th place finish. The lowest so far but considering we lost our starting goalie and star striker since our Serie A arrival I am not too disappointed. Bit frustrating too exit the cup so early, but not the biggest of deals. I think we are set for a longer mid-table stay until we can muster better recruits. I do however hope the intakes will feature a better goalkeeper and new full-backs. As we have yet too proper replace Stefano Alemanni, and honestly Porro 24C and Pelletti 23A are really the only worthy choices as full-backs.

Youth Intake:
I can't pretend that I am unhappy with this intake. Stanislao Russo 30A is a excellent prospect! However I am a bit annoyed he is yet another center-back. I have already adopted a 3-man center-back line because of our prominent linage of getting them. But I really need to get some new full-backs! Corrado Di Nardo 30B is an exciting player too get as his natural position is AMC something we have little too no options in. I ponder a little bit on the possibility of playing 4-3-1-2 at one point with this guy too change things up. Maurizio Gozzi 30C is a goalkeeper and I wanted that. But with his severely lacking physicals and at best mediocre mental starting point I don't expect him too claim playtime for us. Erik Ghetti 30D best hope for playtime is growing into a backup.

Next Year:
Going to admit. The future is not too exciting for us. We need time too get new and better recruits trough. The good note is that financially we are safe. I hope Pulazzi doesn't get poached this summer due too his European Competition play clause. Because honestly his sporting ability versus the albeit very high release isn't worth it compared too the time we need too replace him. I spoke about Cappelletti, Correnti and Bruno development. The first one is slowly getting along. I am determined too keep focusing on his development as his potential is very high. But I need him too take bigger steps next year as hes getting older now. Correnti did well and with a year or two more could rectify the time spent on him. Bruno despite his young age has already taken on the role of being a star. I hope that we can avoid any European release clause on him in the future. Because keeping him, Amerighi and Pulazzi will be key too push for higher placements the following years.

UNION SPORTIF CRETEIL-LUSTITANOS 2019-20 SEASON REVIEW

US_Cr%C3%A9teil-Lusitanos_logo.png

Table -- Stats -- Team of the Season -- Transfers -- Finances -- Sponsors -- Facilities -- Fixtures 1 -- Fixtures 2

creteil-season-by-season-excel-1_28_2019-3_35_00-pm.png?w=670&zoom=2

It was a tough road to automatic promotion for Creteil.  We needed a win on the last day of the season over Quevilly-Rouen to clinch 2nd place and the automatic promotion place.  In fact, the two clubs flopped positions after that match.  We moved into second place and they fell down into fourth place.  Tactically, we played with a 4-2-3-1 for our home matches and on the road we dropped the attacking midfielder into a defensive midfielder role to provide more stability at the back.  Center forward Yannis Dogo led the team in scoring with 18 goals while right back Jason Buaillon led the squad with seven assists and led the team with a 7.09 average rating.

Youth Intake

We had a decent first youth intake.  The intake was led by a pair of attack minded players.  Attacking midfielder Kevin Bourgeios 19A provides me a true attacking midfielder that we lacked this season.  I had to play center forward Maxime Ras in the attacking midfielder role in the 4-2-3-1 formation.  Center forward Gregory Babin 19B has potential to be a good hold-up center forward in the coming seasons.  We also got a good potential goalkeeper with Jean-Luc Roux 19C but Roux has personality issues which will need to be worked out for him to reach his full potential.  Lastly, there is center back Romeo Misidjn 19D.  Misidjn is kind of a "tweener."  His marking isn't good enough to be a center back but doesn't have the work rate to convert into a defensive midfielder.  His passing is good so maybe a ball-playing defender will be his best role.

Final Youth Stats (including intake players)

NOTE: I screwed up the nicknaming.  In future posts, this intake will be converted to 20x and the next class will be 21x.

Next Season:

I'm going to admit that next season is going to be very difficult.  This was a surprise promotion.  I would have liked another season or two in the National so we could blood in some of the youngsters and let them develop.  Now in Ligue 2, it's going be tougher to get them playing time since I'll be focusing on staying up.  Some youngsters will get playing time though it won't be as much as I would like.

Domestic League : Superrettan (Tier 2) - 6th
A much more solid season.  We made a great start and hit top spot, before settling into a decent middle of the season role finishing 6th.
We definitely had our ups and downs, but nothing like last year.

2023-24 Domestic Cup : Group Stages - We beat lower league Rynninge before being beat by top tier Hammarby & Malmo, therefore not qualifying
2024-25 Domestic Cup : Qualified for group stages next year

Europe : n/a

Youth Intake
A good solid intake.  I can see all 4 of these potentially filling roles in the senior squad eventually if progression and opportunities line up
Albin Fagberg (06A) - I like the look of this kid and I am hoping he will progress enough to be able to install him into the middle of the park.  Possible future playmaker, but hopeful a definite starter.
Ivan Vukcevic (06B) - Will be looking to retrain to a MR, which I am hopeful he will be ok with.  Cannot play upfront with that finishing :(
Leonidas Romanos (06C) - Immediately started retraining for DC, as we are lacking there after the transfers below.  Sadly already getting reports he wont get better than accomplished there, but I may persist.  He has something no other defenders at the club have.... pace.
Linus Forsberg (06D) - Another decent looking central midfielder.

Transfers
We got hurt just before the start of the season when we lost Hugo Palmgren (03A) for peanuts 12k (plus 50% of his next transfer) to top tier Helsingborgs.  We initially rejected the first offer and he was furious.  A good chunk of the squad was too and to be fair it wasn't worth the hassle.  He then proceeded to play 0 first team games and only 7 reserve team games....  We then lost Theodor Olsson to a temper tantrum who would have been Hugo's replacement at DC, leaving us thinner than I would have wanted....

Squad StatsSeason Awards
1st - Felix Kasper 34% - A surprise season from Felix.  8 goals and 7 assists from the winger
2nd - Filip Blomgren (05A) 28% - Wonderboy comes in 2nd in his first season with us.  Club record 14 goals and decent progress.  Worries ahead, but this is not the place (see General, below)
3rd - Lucas Ucar 24% - Lucas proved to be a great foil for Filip in a dual striker formation.  10 goals for Lucas.

General
Lets start with the good news.  Another couple of upgrades for the facilities this year, Junior Coaching is up to Good and Youth Recruitment up to Established!
The bad news, before we could tie Filip Blomgren (05A) down to a longer contract, the inevitable is happening earlier than feared.  He is refusing to sign a new contract due to us not having the squad quality to satisfy his ambitions (he is not wrong....).  Next year is now due to be his last year with us (unless a miracle happens) and he will leave at the end of his contract :(

AC BELLINZONA TAKEOVER

AC Bellinzona are a Swiss club that has fallen on hard times in recent years.  A bankruptcy sent the club all the way down to the 6th tier of Swiss Football in 2013-14.  They have worked their way back through the divisions and have returned to Challenge League after winning the 1.Liga Promotion (3rd tier) in 2019.  As the lone promoted team to the Challenge League, they are the club that I have taken over in hopes of returning them to the Super League and eventually challenging the top clubs of Basel and Young Boys before turning our eyes to European domination.

bellinzona-season-by-season-excel-1_29_2

bellinzona-season-by-season-excel-1_29_2

The media do not rate our chances of staying up very highly as we are joint favorites to go down with Chiasso who finished in 8th place in the Challenge League last season.  The club has a senior team and a U21 team.  There is Team Ticino U18 which is an affiliate club that plays in the U18 Swiss Elite League.  I don't know if the youth intake will go into my U21 team or the Team Ticino U18 team.

Oppsal Season 2024 Report

Another season finished here in Norway, as we sought to bounce straight back up after relegation last season, aiming for promotion back into the Norwegian First Division. Before the season I moved on two of our most experienced players, CB Hasle and CM Kristiansen who were declining and had very low determination. This was to improve the overall squad determination and provide more chances for academy players. I intended to do the same with my ageing RM and LM however we didn't really have any depth in the position so I chose to hold onto them for one more season. Here's how the season went:

Cup- We beat lower league Ålgård FK in extra time in the first round after dominating all game, then followed it up with a nice 2-0 win over a lower league team called Ski. We then drew Premier League giants Rosenborg in the next round and were soundly beaten 3-1, however it was great to see our star youngster Pål Langåker 19A grab a goal for us at the end. A decent little cup run for us in the end which netted us about 120K of prize money which was excellent.

League- Although tipped by the media for relegation, we knew we were better than that and quickly established ourselves as one of the best clubs in the league, however there was company at the top. We constantly rotated around the top 3 positions with Bryne and Lyn, with several tense matchups between us. As the end of the season approached, we were in 1st but only on goal difference above Lyn and one point above Bryne. In our third last game we scraped a comeback win 2-1 over Elverum after having a man sent off then easily dispatched Grorud 3-0 in our penultimate game. The situation at the top was still the same going into the final day, so we needed to equal or better Lyn's result to win the league on goal difference while keeping an eye on Bryne who were still 1 point back. We went up 1-0 in our match and Lyn went down 1-0 in theirs, all looking great early on however it quickly turned bad, as we conceded an equaliser and they came back to win 2-1. This meant we finished 2nd and had to enter the playoffs, which was not the end of the world as I still felt good about the team and we were playing some really good football.

We first had to get past Tromsdalen from the other half of the second division in the first matchup and a solid 2-0 win at home and 2-1 win away meant we went through unscathed. Our heroes Pål Langåker 19A and Tallak Bright-Taylor providing the goals in the away leg. We then had to face the team that finished third last in the division above to win promotion, and my eyes lit up when I saw who it was. It was Moss, who undeservedly beat us narrowly at our own stadium last year to send us down, so this was a fantastic opportunity for revenge. The players seemed to know this as well and let me tell you this was one of the most enjoyable two legged playoffs I have ever watched in FM. The first leg was at home and started with our veteran striker Lasse Bransdal forgetting he was in the middle of a horrific dry spell and easily putting us 1 and then 2-0 up. Our ball winning midfielder Nilsen then latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box to volley in our third. Wide man Fritzoe Östman joined the party and slotted in our fourth before they grabbed a consolation goal and the match finished 4-1. As a result, I was very confident for the away leg and decided that we would not change how we played whatsoever, and my players were all still firing on all cylinders. Homegrown hero Pål Langåker smashed in the first with a delightful lobbed header then Jørgen Solvang Nilsen, with no regard for human life, just smashed in a free kick top right corner from 30 yards out. Langåker polished it off with another goal and we ended up winning the tie 7-1 on aggregate. I'm almost glad we had to go through the playoffs now!

Best players-

Top goalscorer: Pål Langåker 19A (17 goals) Young Pål came back from his season-long injury last season and did really well, scoring tons of important goals and putting in great performances.

Most assists: Jørgen Solvang Nilsen (9 assists) This guy is just immense as a ball winning midfielder, crucial in our success this year.

Highest avg rating: Tallak Bright-Taylor (7.51) He has outdone even himself this year. Just like Leo Messi, the only comparably iconic player in world football, he just somehow keeps getting better and I don't understand. Tallak finished the season with  5 goals, 5 assists and 5 POM awards along with his 7.5+ rating, while still being rated as a 1.5* CA CENTRE BACK! he will always have a job at this club, no matter how old or terrible he gets.

MVP: Has to be Tallak Bright-Taylor.

Best U23 player: There is a lot of competition for this award this year, especially from LB Stian Sollien 21A and CM Arve Granhaug 19B, however it has to go to Pål Langåker 19A as he was just awesome again this year.

Results Results 2 (no) Transfers

Academy Players that played over 1000 minutes this season:

Pål Langåker 19A (17 goals, 5 assists, 4 POM, Most minutes played in entire squad)

Stian Sollien 21A (4 assists, 3 POM)

Stian Rustand (2 goals, 2 assists, 1 POM, first untagged player to break into the first team)

Henrik Kaasa 19C (3 assists, 1 POM)

Arve Granhaug 19B (8 assists, 1 POM)

We really needed promotion financially as we went from slowly gaining money to rapidly losing it. We are still well in the positive but paying for additional upgrades means we need to keep progressing as a football club. Our goals for next season are to survive, move on a few more old, low determination players and inject even more youth into the first team.

Oppsal 2025 Youth Intake

Much improved on last year, we have several players with really good potential and plenty more that i'll sign as they look at least somewhat promising. We even got a Swedish person.

9kFFTz5.png

The best of the bunch seems to be a striker, Krogstad which is pretty good positionally as our 2nd and 3rd strikers are both quite old and inconsistent while I just released our 4th choice as he's not really useful anymore. He plays a bit of centre back too apparently.

9JAevMd.png

The other bright prospect is Stapnes who is an attacking mid, who i'll retrain as a striker since we don't play with any AMs, but he also looks pretty decent:

IFK Eskilstuna – Season 2

Season 2 – 2020 – 2ndDivision South Svealand (4thtier)

League: After the close call last year I was hopeful of promotion, and we did it. We started in spectacular form, winning 12 on the trot – but Assyriska FF kept in touch, and beat us at our place in the 13thgame. After that we were neck and neck, but a crucial away victory to 3rdplace IF Sylvia effectively sealed the title and promotion with 3 games to go.

Star players: The two best prospects from last year’s intake – Hallberg 19a (MC/AMC) and Gustavsson 19b (DRC) have both become first team regulars, and have been instrumental in our promotion this season. The winger Christoffer Milde (MRL) was the overall best player, with 13 goals and 10 assists in 23.

Youth intake: Not too inspiring this season, given that the squad is still weak – no 5* prospects and the top 2 prospects, Fredrik Eriksson 20a (DC/DM/DMC) and Kristoffer Juhlin 20b (AMLC/ST) both have determination of 2. But you never know, maybe something will come out of it.

Facilities: have upped youth coaching and recruitment, but am now losing money because of it, and probably other reasons – our income is meagre (Finances)

Transfers: nothing

Next season’s aim: survival

A random bit of trivia: apparently none other than Sebastian Larsson started his career at IFK Eskilstuna – his name came up in the newsletter of former players taking part in the World Cup. But he’s not listed as legend, icon or even favourite personnel!

STADE BORDELAIS

2019/2020

Domestic league: French National (Tier 3) - 3rd place

Play-offs: Home match & away match

French Cup: 5th round

Media predicted us to end up dead last but I wanted to fight for mid-table. And we ended up fighting for promotion. Honestly if it was not for Hebras getting injured, we would have probably won the league but he is our only ACM (most essential position for my tactics) and he injured himself for five months. Only other decent ACM is only 15 years old and could not play in league matches. In French Cup it was swiftly over for us as we lost to 4th tier team. We were in a very bad slump back then.

YOUTH IN-TAKE

Great in-take as we could already form a decent line-up out of these players. Pierre Bernard should have bright future even though he's rated only as 9th best but as I said before, we really need ACMs.

TRANSFERS

The player that joined us on free joined the team before me. Reset date for France as stated in first post of this thread is 20th June. We only let useless players go + Labyed, who wanted to leave anyway.

SQUAD STATS & SQUAD STATS II - TEAM AWARDS - ALL-TIME BEST ELEVEN

1st - Simon Hebras - He only played 21 games this season and scored 17 goals. If he did not pick up an injury he could easily finish with thirty.

2ndPierre Ducasse - Too bad he's 33 old. Very important CM for us.

3rdCharly Dutournier - Our captain and star player, scored only 11 goals so that is quite a let down.

FINANCES

Financial situation was tough all season long as board had to inject money three or four times to keep us running. I am hopeful promotion will solve this issues. I kept my wages on around 11k even though my budget was 16k.

And mot important thing at last - we are turning PROFESSIONAL!

Are we counting Peru for this? The quirk is that previously unplayable teams are promoted straight into the top tier, and can (theoretically) complete the challenge by winning the Copa Libertadores as early as 2020 (Peru's season runs from Jan 2018) when most people will still be playing their first season in a third tier!

Very different in spirit to people grinding their way from the bottom of the Swedish divisions since you start with decent newgen-producing abilities and don't have to worry nearly as much about finances, but on the other hand you've got the challenge of higher expectations and blooding newgens at a much higher level to replace generally pretty old squads and Peruvian sides are a fair way behind the best in Brazil and Argentina.

tbh I'm mostly interested in doing it this way because I like overdoing micromanagement and watching games :D

Sampedrense - 2035/36 Season Report

Fixtures 1 - Fixtures 2 - Fixtures 3 - Transfers

Transfers

One out with Buczek, who had joined for £2.3m four years back, leaving for Real Madrid in a £90m deal. We want to get back to all Sampedrense players eventually and he was second choice left mid, so it's a great deal from that point of view. Nobody joins us and a number of other loans out.

League

4wJNSOX.png

We lost our unbeaten streak eventually, dropping 3-2 away at Sporting with Leite, keeper Moita and Rocha all out through injury. We were 2-0 up in spite of that, but our reserve keeper just wasn't up to it. The second loss came late on in the season to Guimaraes and a 91st minute goal with the title long since sewn up - it was just before the CL semis, so I was happy to rest just about everyone. So, our unbeaten league stretch went to 146 games. Pretty sure we won't get to that again!

Won Manager of the Year again :)

Cups

Won both Taca de Liga and the Taca de Portugal. First time in a long while that we've done that!

Europe

Not an easy group this year - Chelsea, Leverkusen and Club Brugge. A phenomenal 3-0 win in London led to us winning the group with a solid 14 points. The first knockout round paired us with AC Milan and we made things difficult, going 3-1 down in the San Siro to a hat trick from their AML. We made it 3-2 before going 3-0 up at home, which was all we needed. In the QF, we had a grudge match against Barca, who knocked us out last year (we had crumbled in the first leg and just couldn't do enough at home). Needless to say, I was worried when we went 2-0 down, but we pulled it back to 2-2 before each side grabbed a late goal. At home, we did what we should have last year and just hammered them. Atletico are a side I haven't faced much, but were really tough on the way to our first CL title. We grabbed an early strike in Madrid to lead 1-0, but they were well on top and deservedly equalised, before getting a man sent off, which meant we could take the lead in the last ten minutes. At home, we again scored early and were comfortable in spite of their equaliser, before Trujillo put things beyond doubt.

The final saw us face up to Real. Suffice to say, at 2-1 down at half time, I was concerned. Then Trujillo went wild in the best performance I can remember in any edition of FM..

p8PNz06.png

Trujillo also went one better than Leite's 17 Champions League goals last season and set a new record.

Player of the Season

It'd be nice to give it to someone else, but Leite is still just head and shoulders above everyone. Special mention to Trujillo for his goalscoring exploits though (and still hasn't hit his potential!)

Youth Intake

Not bad and at least we have a position of need. Still after that CB or box-to-box CM.

Luis Machado (YP18a) - A good looking LB that I'm hoping we can train up to eventually be our home-grown version of Feciuch at that CWB role

Adriano Figueira (YP18b) - A decent CB prospect, who won't make it to Freixo's level, but might one day play alongside him.

Facilities and Finances:

Youth facilities needed an upgrade, but otherwise at max again. Most of the youngsters I'd targeted last year got some good game time, with Logan Long (YP13a) getting the most game time:

9sGTZwd.png

Rocha watch:

Now up to 601 games, but missed January through to the CL final with a hip injury, which was a real shame. It did allow Logan Long (above) to get his game time though, which was good news. Definitely not at his peak compared to a few years back.

bKnhXJI.png

International:

The European Championships were up this summer - we were drawn against Turkey, Scotland and Austria in a very friendly group, which we won comfortably. England were up in the 2nd round and a 3-1 victory was just reward for a good performance. Then we just sort of spluttered, needing penalties to get by a poor Poland side and then Spain in the semis. Germany were the other finalists and an early Vergine goal saw them off. A pretty boring win really!

Progress:

League: rules - players under 17yo not allowed to play
predicted 13th - odds 401.00
position 5th [table] - qualified for the Champions League.
Again gived up domestic cup and focused on CL and Bundesliga.
We had difficult calendar this year. Season started against top 4 teams. We had bad form and morale on few easier matches which we couldn't win. From first 10 matches we only played once with team from second half of the table. We lost lot of points, had only 9 pts in 9 first matches.  Easier second part of first round and much better calendar and results at second round.
We were qualified to CL because league winner Borussia Dortmund failed to gain license due to financial reasons (same stuation as 2 years ago).
---
Cup:
1st r. - won A[9-0] with Lippstadt (non-league)
2nd r. - won A[2-0] with Braunschweig (2.Bundesliga)
3rd r. - won H[3-0] with Osnabrück (2.Bundesliga)
QF - lost H[0-1] with Bayer 04 (Bundesliga)

Champions League:
Group stage: qualified to the next round from 2nd place, we had 9 pts but better results against Milan.
Liverpool H[0-1], A[1-4] 11pts
Milan H[3-0], A[1-2] 9pts
AS Monaco H[2-0], A[2-1] 5pts
1st r. - H[4-0], A[0-2] with Barcelona (CL title defender) - fantastic home game performance, 7 shots on target and 4 goals
QF - H[2-2], A[1-1] with Sevilla - bad home game, we lost 2 goals in first 10 minutes but we managed to pull up a draw. Very unlucky away game, we were 1-1 and we had penalty in 90 minute... but we missed.

Real Jean FC

Season Update 2022-2023

Our first season in La Liga, following two consecutive promotions. We were of course tipped to become dead last. In the Team Comparison section it was obvious we were dead last in basically every skillset compared to every other team.. nice.

But we surprised everyone, including ourselves and finished on a really solid 10th place. Our place on the upper half of the table was sealed in the last game of the season, beating Real Madrid 3-2! That also gave the title to Barcelona, so it was a huge game to win. Real Madrid is my favorite team IRL, so I kinda wished it was the other way around

It was a very strange season with the team putting on some great performances. But at the same time, there were periods when our lack of quality was so obvious, and next year might just as well end with relegation. We have one player that is good enough for La Liga, the majority of the starting 11 are no more than 3rd level quality to be honest.... Especially our goalkeeper situation is dreadful, and we have absolutely no talent in that position at the moment.

The season certainly had different periods of great and dreadful results. We started really well, drawing away at Espanyol before beating Valencia at home! After an expected loss to Atletico Madrid we had a pretty good run of form, beating Gimnastic 4-1 as well as wins at Girona and home to Valladolid during September. We then hit a rough patch, winning only three out of our next 14 matches. Things were not looking good! But then we turned it around. A run of 5 consecutive wins basically sealed our spot in the league.

Unfortunately we got knocked out early in the Copa del Rey. We were up against Almeria, who had been relegated to the 3rd division. I thought I could rotate some players and still advance. So of course we lost 3-1..

We had a decent youth intake, nothing more. Cristobal Gutierrez is a huge talent, and I gave him some games at the end of the season, and even though he is only 15, he did okay! I will try to loan out as many as I can for next season, which is my strategy for development (might be wrong).

Goals for next season:

- Survive in La Liga

- Quarter final in Copa del Rey

- Upgrade Training/Youth Facilities

I can't see any reason not to allow this in Peru, since we are allowing Wales who also only have 1 tier in game. But I guess @darren1983 or @Braumiller are the ones to give a definitive answer.

Also congrats to @b101 for completing the challenge! Impressive! I didn't notice until now.

Youth intake 2034

A couple of good players this year around.

IwF22EV.png

The one I'm most excited about is Paul Miller 34a. A tall and strong defender with good mental stats for his age.

Yeah no issue with Peru. Like @XaW says, Wales is fine. As long as there is promotion and relegation (so not the MLS) then any league is fine.

He looks class! Would love a defender like that to come through for me :)

Domestic League : Superrettan (Tier 2) - 7th
7th is one place lower than last season, but on the pitch it didn't feel like a step back.  The top 3 ran away from the rest of us early on, so at times it actually felt like there wasn't much to play for in the league this year.  We started out in crazy fashion.  We got smashed in the opening game, got pegged back from 4-0 up to draw 4-4 in our 2nd game, smashed the opposition in our next two games and then had an even worse pegging back when 4-1 up and lost 4-6.  We toned down the tactic and little bit after that!

Domestic Cup : 2024-2025 edition - Runners-Up
This was some fairy tale run!  In the group stages we played top tier Vasteras at home first and played fantastic winning 3-0.  We snuck past lower level IK Sirius 2-1 away next and by the time be played 4th tier Bromolla at home, we knew a draw would be enough to top our group and make the Quarter Finals for the first time (we won!).
Quarter Finals saw us play top tier Kalmar at home, although we were offered around 50k to switch it to their place.  I was tempted but kept it at home and was rewarded with another great effort and a 3-1 win.
Semi Finals, again top tier opposition in BK Hacken.  This game was nuts.  We raced into a 3-0 lead, got pegged back to 3-2, before scoring a couple more and winning 5-3!
The Final.  Malmo, at their place (not neutral.....) and the run finally caught up to us.  To be fair we were a LOT better than the 1-4 scoreline suggests.  0-0 at half-time, they then scored the scruffiest of goals for 0-1.  We pushed for the equalizer, but they scored 3 in the last 10 minutes before we got a 94th minute consolation.  So so close to an unexpected EURO Cup appearance.  Malmo to their credit took their 2nd qualifying round entry point and ran with it all the way to the EURO Cup group stages!
Domestic Cup : 2025-2026 edition - Knocked out 2nd Round
Talk about being brought back down to earth.  We were garbage and lower league Osters took us out 1-2!

Europe : n/a

Youth Intake
Another defensive minded intake, although given the recent transfer activity noted below, that is not a bad thing for now.  I like the depth of this years intake, as there is not a noticable drop off of talent at any point.  I signed them all, just in case.
Tommy Svensson (07A) - One of the better stat DCs we have had in.  I like the look of him and he ended up starting the final two league games of the year and played very nicely.  Expecting him to be a starter sooner rather than later.
Nemanja Rodic (07B) - Right midfielder is a spot we don't have a great deal of depth at, so Nemanja might get some chances to prove his worth/progress as time goes by
Daniel Larsson (07C) - I like the look of this kid.  Decent physicals and automatic 3rd choice left back initially (I think we only have 4 at the whole club!)
Sebastian Gustafsson (07D) - The yearly GK prospect
Fredrik Larsson (07E) - Above average pace and decent starting stats, some future depth at central defender
Simon Nilsson (07F) - Another central defender, lacking in starting attributes but plenty of potential
Viktor Sjoberg (07G) - Very versatile and interesting looking

Transfers
Oh boy.......
Transfer deadline day just before the season kicked off and we were rejecting offers for Kenneth Milde (04A) left and right from top tier teams, and bless him, he never complained once.  Suddenly, once the bids crept above 50k the chairman stepped in and accepted!!!  Noooooooo!  That meant I have lost both of my two best central defenders in the past two seasons.
As the summer window was a week away, Filip Blomgren (05A) was still never going to sign a new contract and he had been out injured more than available during the first half of the season.  I decided to try and ship him out before he could start talking with teams about a pre-contract agreement and offered him out for cash + 50% of next transfer.  No-one bit until it was for free plus the 50% clause.  He had the choice of 12 teams and went to Malmo, so at least he will be playing in the EURO Cup due to our cup final.
Then came what I look back on as a mistake now.  Mansour Alipour (04B) had twice asked to leave for a bigger club and we talked him down.  Teams started offering money and being worried the chairman would step in again, or Mansour would throw his dummy out of the pram, I negotiated a 50k deal.  I swear I also had +50% of next sale on there as well, but apparently not.....
The squad then complained we sold him after he left!
Lesson learnt, I am going to fight to hold on to everyone from now on and will just try and handle the bad morale afterwards.
That is 4 great starters that have left in the last 24 months, I need to stop the bleeding.

Squad Stats - Season Awards
1st - Lucas Ucar 48% - A stand out year for Lucas.  Top scorer, top assists and top rating.  Played great at AML, AMC and FC.
2nd - Erdem Ozdemir 01B 29% - Erdem finally displaced Ursholm as our starting right back and hopefully no looking back now
3rd - Admir Jukic 01A 14% - A true sign of our tactical flip flopping at time.  3rd place in the fans vote and no place in the tactic chosen to fit our team of the year into....

General
In stark contrast to the negative news in the transfer market, we again managed to get the 1-2 punch of youth coaching (twice!) and youth recruitment upgraded again late in the year.  The future is looking healthier, we just need to stabilize and push on.  Four years of similar finishes in the Superrettan and I am getting antsy (as will the accountant soon, we have gone from a 10-20k profit per month a year or two back, to a -50k loss or more per month now....).
Tactic wise we started out a lot more attacking than previous years, to try and utilize (05A) in his final year before leaving at the end of his contract.  Given the results, it was obvious I over did it, so I slowly developed a more cautious approach.  It felt like it worked, but it also went back to the old days of feeling a little too toothless up front.
Still unsure what tactical direction I want to go in next season.....
I have started to let the high reputation elder statesmen leave the squad now.  We had 8-10 contracts expire and I let them leave, including previous Player of the year Emil Ursholm.  Dynamics wise, this is going to free up spot at the top of that pyramid, as he was a Team Leader.  The other two Team Leaders are due up next year, and I may well let them go as well (Jobe and Iversen, our GK).

Table | Squad | Transfers | Finances

We've had some very good seasons the last few years, and I just can't wait to see when it will stop. At least it didn't this season! However, before the season started I had a bit of a clearance sale were I got rid of quite a lot of players who had been with us for a long time, but were not good enough to be used in the Premier League. I got money for some of them, others I let go on a free, but I slimmed down the squad quite a bit. 10 players were sold or released during the summer, most had played quite a lot of games of games for the first team. Even thought we lost the season opener to Brighton we had a great start and didn't lose another league game until December, so we established us firmly into the fight to the top spots. It were clear it was a 6 team race after a while, the same old big teams, but with one exception. We had taken the spot of Tottenham who struggled in the relegation zone for a large part of the season before having a strong spring to get back into the top half. Toward the end of the season Manchester City had run a bit away with the title, but the battle for the Champions League spots were on. With a few matches left everyone in the top had a fair shot. Going into the final match we had a chance, but were reliant on Manchester United losing away to Wolves while we won away to Bournemouth. We did our job, and I were delighted when I saw Wolved had scored a late winner! This caused us to get the 4th spot on more scored goals! Even points and even goal difference! And it makes it clear what we need to work on in the coming seasons, we are conceding a lot of goals, but on the flip side we are scoring a lot. Just how I enjoy my football. Champions League here we come.

We also had our first try in Europe this season and went straight into the group stage of the Europa League. Our group contained Feyenoord of Holland, Schalke of Germany and Zorya of Ukraine along ourselves. We won both against Zorya and Feyenoord, but lost away to Schalke and drew at home and qualified a the runner up in the group. In the first knockout round we drew Atletico Madrid of Spain, a very tough opponent. Somehow we smashed them 5-0 at home, and followed it up with a 3-1 win in Madrid. In the 2nd knockout round we got Gil Vicente of Portugal. A fairly easy draw as we beat them comfortably 10-1 on aggregate. In the quarter final we faced Juventus of Italy, one of the best teams left in the competition. In Turin we countered them down and won 3-1, and then did the same at home in a 2-1 win to get to the semi final. Here we once again had an easier draw and beat Lille of France without much issue. In the final, hosted by Belgrade, Serbia we had a shot at a rematch with Schalke.

We had a horrible start though as we conceded after just 3 minutes, and almost before the replays of the goal were done we gave away a penalty and conceded another one. 0-2 down after only 4 minutes is not the way to start a final. At the half hour mark they scored a third, and we were lucky we didn't concede another one just before half time. At the break we did some changes, since things were clearly not working. We pulled 2 back with 20 minutes to go, but we just didn't find the equalizer and lost the match 2-3. Runner up is a tough finish, but still a great first campaign in Europe for us.

I did something dumb though. I cancelled a link with a non-league team we had been linked with for a long time, and then I found out we had borrowed their training facilites, so ours are now much poorer, but we are improving them though. Our finances are amazing since I'm not using it to buy players. Our new stadium should be done by the end of next season, so we are playing at King Power Stadium for another season.

In the FA Cup we beat Ipswich before losing to Derby after extra time in the replay. In the League cup we beat Oxford, but got thumped 0-4 away to Tottenham.

We had a pretty good youth intake this season. The most promising is Paul Miller 34a.

My son had a very good season where he both scored a bit and assisted a lot. He is a regular at the Norwegian U21s and have been looked at by the Norway manager a couple of times, so he might get his first call-up soon.

Kettering Town 2034/35

League Table   Squad 1/Squad 2   Season Review

A great season for us, pushing for the playoff places throughout the season, until 4 draws and 2 defeats in the last 6 dashed any hopes of promotion to the PL. Eventually ending up in 9th place with 67 points (W18 D13 L15). Mark Bennett was as reliable as ever, cleaning up at the club awards night. Jonathan Bird 30a was the key man going forward with 13 goals and 6 assists from the left wing. In his debut season, Kaine Harbottle 33c was outstanding in the heart of defence, just hoping we can hold onto him. Lee Clark 30c is developing into a reliable DLP and Luke Marvin 31e  has made the RB position his own in his first season in the first team. Starting to develop a really good core of players.

Youth Intake - Solid bunch this time around, Daniel Usman is a promising GK, seem to have a number of promising keepers coming through in recent years. Chris McGuire yet another solid CB, his starting stats look particularly good. Rohan Silvera is the pick of the rest and his decent mental stats should bode well.

Season update 2023-2024

After our great first season in La Liga, finishing 10th, we had a bit of a second season syndrome. We were struggling just over the relegation zone for most of the season. We finshed the season in 14th place, but it does not tell the story about how awful we were this year. We are just so far behind every single team when it comes to quality. We are not favorites in any single game, home or away. Looking at the quality of our squad and the opposition, we should lose basically every game, many of them with double digits. But for some reason we get some wins, as many as we need. But for how long?

We started the season with a really good 3-0 win over Deportive, before winning only 2 of our next 10 league games. In this period we were also knocked out of Copa del Rey to Espanyol (although we played decent).

We never really got going and couldn't get any decent run of form. Why would we though, many of our players are lucky they can actually play professional football. Our star defender for the last 2-3 years, Eugenio, spent the summer complaining that he couldnt get a transfer to Juventus. This season, going from 19 to 20 years of age, he has actually become a worse footballer. Juventus, and any other team, has of course lost interest, as he is now looking more like a Sunday League player, both on the pitch as well as with his mindset. Luckily, Jose Manuel, my other central defender, is doing really well and has been called up to the Spain U19's. He is now wanted in Valencia, and wants to leave. He won't leave.

After a terrible run of form, relegation was looking more and more the most realistic outcome. Luckily, we were able beat Gimnastic at home (after being down 1-0 for 80 minutes of the game) 2-1, and that started a great run of 4 consecutive wins. After expected losses to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid we managed a sensational, and for some reason deserved, win over Valencia away, 1-0. That was the last positive result this year, and we finished with 6 losses. So the morale is now in a terrible state..

Our goalkeeping situation has been terrible since I started this save, and we do not have any youth prospects at all. Not a single one. If someone doesnt show up soon that might be the end of the challenge, as my goalkeeper is conceding laughable goals almost every game. With the Match Engine favoring long shots over everything else doesnt make it better.

Our board thinks it's great to be a small club in a big league, and they dont want to invest in anything at all. Training facilities and Youth facilities are terrible, even though the club is now really rich. Our wages are very low, and they should be, as our players are "low-wage-quality-players".

Next season we will again be favorites for relegation. And we will be relegated at one point if something doesnt happen. Hopefully the board can focus on something else than taking out huge bonuses every year, and invest in a new stadium and new traning facilities.

We actually have some good young players, but with very little variation on positions. At one point we might have 6 top quality right backs, and 3 good strikers, nothing else. But as long as the board can take out a big bonus each year, they wont care.

My prayers have been answered. The board members have taken a break from smoking cigars and drinking champagne, and have finally made a decision to invest in the club. Training facilities, youth facilities as well as a new 30 000 capacity stadium. Great news!

We did it, we survived the season and didn't go straight back down. We look good one game, terrible the next and the money isn't coming in quick enough to upgrade facilities. This really is a slow burner and In one way I'm a little jealous of those in the top flight by the season I am in, but in another way this feels real and gritty and it's going to be a long slog to even get to League 2 let alone the Premiership......

@theBlackPrince - just wanted to say that your season write-ups are by far the most unique and well put together we have had in this challenge!  Love the layout and content

I really admire those who take on this challenge in England.  It is such a long climb.  *tips hat*

Domestic League : Superrettan (Tier 2) - 2nd (Promotion!)
A fantastic league season!  We started off strong and despite a wobble around the middle of the year when we lost 3 on the bounce, we were able to see out the year in good form and clinch the 2nd automatic promotion spot.
I will be honest, it felt like for much of the season we were riding our luck quite a bit, winning tight games and not feeling like being on the end of too many bad decisions or lucky breaks.  This was highlighted in one particular league game when we won 2-1 against Vasteras, who had 3 (!!) goals disallowed.  As the season got to the business end, we were dead level with IK Frej Taby with 4 games to go, but they had a 1 goal advantage in goal difference.  We then had a huge swing in our favor, when we won our game 3-0 and they lost theirs 0-3.  Last day of the season saw us needing just a point to guarantee promotion and we played out the most fantastically boring 0-0 in our history (apart from kick offs, there was 1 highlight!  A long range free kick for them.....).  IK Frej Taby also drew, so a loss would have done!

Domestic Cup : 2025-2026 edition - already knocked out
Domestic Cup : 2026-2027 edition - Advanced to Group Stages next season
After last years embarassing loss at this stage, we treated this like a regular league game and played a full strength team.  We beat Gefle from one league below us 4-2 to advance to the group stages next preseason.

Youth Intake
The facility improvements are really starting to show in the recent intakes and this one continues the trend.  A, B, C and E all featured for the senior squad in the final games of the season.
Joakim Stromberg (08A) - A quality, instant impact prospect up front!  As with any intake product, there are weaknesses (in this case personality, determination & finishing) but we need something to work on!
Joakim Groundstroem (08B) - A slightly small central defender with relatively great starting heading, marking, tackling, technique, aggression, bravery, determination, positioning and work rate.  Will start him as often as possible.
Jonatan Hansson (08C) - A determined central midfielder who will find it difficult to break the strong Jobe/Ari partnership in the middle of our setup.  That said, after a goal and an assist filling in at right midfield I have started retraining him there for a possible full time role.
Hans Larsson (08D) - The odd man out with regards to getting immediate game time.  Hans is an AMC at a club that currently doesn't utilize one.  I'll retrain at forward and see where it goes
Patrik Lindstrom (08E) - The exact opposite of Hans, Patrik is a natural DM at a club that has been playing central midfielders in a DM role for the past couple of years.  Has the basics already in place to fulfill the role, we just need to flesh out his ability and try and get his personality trending positively.
Charles Aboker (08F) - This one is a definite project.  Retraining underway for left midfield and will spend a fiar chunk of time in the youth squad.

Transfers
Another season with a flurry of transfer activity, but this time it was all of my own chosing!  A lot of loans going out for a season of games.  A few played their way into consideration for next years senior squad.

Squad Stats - Season Awards
1st - Sebastian Hansson 63% - Moving back to our old 4141 formation (although tweaked) meant Sebastian became a very attacking fullback again and excelled
2nd - Admir Jukic (01A) 14% - Forming a scary partnership down our left with Hansson, Admir played great.
3rd - Abdoulie Jobe 13% - The tiny captain again produced when needed

General
A very unexpected and successful season!  The realist in me wonders if it was too soon, but I am just going to try and suppress that feeling.
Off the field it was very quite, except for the screaming and crying heard coming from the finance department.  We lost over 500k this season, mainly due to the much higher costs of running our junior coaching and youth recruitment operations at such high levels.
That said, they are definitely starting to bear fruits with the recent intakes!  I went and took a look at all 32 teams in the top two division and we now have the best junior coaching rating in Sweden and the joint best youth recruitment (along with Malmo, Norrkoping and BK Hacken).  Therefore we are now in a fantastic position to be in with a chance of bringing in the better of the Swedish kids as they enter the footballing world.
I realized I have not updated the Selim Ari (03B) experiment since its initial first season failure.  It is fair to say that since then it has been a great success!  In giving him the vice captaincy every year and now with him being a key piece of our first XI, he has risen up through the pecking order of the clubs dynamics and this year became a Team Leader.  This now gives me a determination 15 Team Leader to use in mentoring the new kids who do not have the best personalities.  He will eventually take over the club captaincy, but Jobe still has that for now.  Once a new youth comes through who will be the next captaincy project, I will promote Selim to captain and install the new project as vice captain.
One of the big news items immediately after promotion...  The board finally took the step to make us a Professional football club finally!  Looking forward to being able to train full time and hopefully kick the development up a notch!
Next season....  I fear a little, but anything above the relegation spots will be a success.

Sorry for the lack of updates after my Bellinzona takeover post.  I spent the last five days at Walt Disney World umpiring at the 2019 Disney Field Hockey Showcase.  200+ teams in five different divisions (U12, U14 7v7, U14 11v11, U16 and U19).  Umpired 10 games, made a few hundred bucks, and got to spend some time in the parks.  Not a bad weekend truth be told.

Thank you, it is appreciated! Most season's I regret this and wonder why I'm still doing it when I could go somewhere else, but hopefully can push on in a few more years!

League: rules - players under 17yo not allowed to play

position 11th [table] - first time underperformed!
Bad season in the league, especially 1st half where we had 11 games without a win in a row. We were defending really poorly. Lost lot of points because few early straight red cards (total 7 reds). This year we had more 5-7 weeks injuries then previous years. We catched some good form at the end of season and jumped up few position in the table.
This season is my fault, i made too many changes in the squad, especially 2 new rightbacks where not good enough in their first year in the senior football.

OK so as said previously I was looking to resume this challenge and so have gone back to what I know best and returned to England. Took over at Kingstonian. Profile. Played through the first season before posting just because I got so into the season which was really good fun and first time in a while for me :D

Review coming up in the next post.

Season 2019/20 Review

League was a strange season as we dominated the league from the off (as you can see from the graph) by winning our first 4 games all 3-1. We never felt like the best in the league though and often won games thanks to goals from corners or direct freekicks (we led the league in both) and not something I think we can do again next season. Won the title with 5 games to go so was able to play some of the youngsters.

SquadLike I say, not sure they really are the best or just clicked this season. Bit worried about next season though.

FA Cupnot great here as we were knocked out by non-league Merstham before we even got to the 1st round proper

FA TrophyMuch better here as we made it as far as the 1/4 finals before Hartlepool beat us.

Transfersnon in or out

FinancesReally bad, could have done with a cup run really

KEY PLAYERS

Louie Theophanous18 goals from our main man this season, not sure if he'll handle the step up but we'll need him to
Muhammadu Faala player I know well from my attempts with Dulwich, good to see he's still as good.
Matthew Saunders bailed us out many times this season with his free kicks and corners.

Youth Intake

Not an amazing intake but a handful that could go on to the decent squad players at least, at the very worst it gives us some depth we've been missing all season. Also I like there's a nice spread of 2nd nationalities in there.

Tarek McGonigle 20A - best of a mediocre bunch, might turn out to be an option as our AML role. Also think this is first time I've had a youth player with "Mercenary" as his personality.
Ian Cottam 20B - couple decent physicals and mentals could see him develop and never hurts to have another option up front
Aaron Sekyere 20C - cover at both FB positions, versatility is always a bonus
Johnny Izukanne 20D - another that can play a couple of roles in my system

Season Division League Position Accomplishments

2019/20 VNS 1st Promotion as champions
