Heavy rumours the past few days that the Greece v Iran friendly is cancelled but still no official word as far as I know, only many articles quoting each other or giving different reasons.

Now there are rumours it is being replaced by Kosovo v Iran.

Also 0-0 at Morocco-Ukraine.

If we look at the names alone, Morocco have a good squad. Compared to Tunisia it looks impressive. Benatia, Belhanda, Ziyech, Harit, Carcela... all of them born in Europe.

Probably the most balanced African team.

Senegal held to a 0-0 draw in Luxembourg earlier.  Thought they were supposed to be decent, potential banana skin for England in the Round of 16 etc.  Can't even beat Luxembourg!

France vs. Luxembourg 0-0 one year ago. We all know Luxembourg belong to the mighty powers of Football :)

Argentina will play Israel next Saturday (06/09) in Jesrusalem, just for the money in it. Nobody wanted to play but the FA wanted to cash.

Should be a nice friendly in a nice venue, Israel is a fairly traditional Argentine opponent in friendlies. I wish Brazil would do the same.

This friendly in 1998 is very cool:

Yeah, there is that component of tradition (or as we call it, "cabala"), but it´s mostly about the money. Going to Jerusalem one week before our tip-off is a bit odd.  Still, we probably need every opportunity to practice, and Israel is as good as it could get without the chance of getting embarrassed.

Yes, but friendlies are almost always about the money. Even those pre-WC friendlies.

I think Israel at least will be a better opponent than Haiti (but as you say, it's still not a team that will actually threaten Argentina much), although Haiti was a different kind of friendly anyway as Argentina were leaving the country to travel abroad, so they needed an opponent that would pose no threat. This is another thing Brazil should have done instead of playing only friendlies in Europe.

Yes, a bit weird that Brazil had no friendly before leaving for Europe, but from the outside it seems that they are handling everything really professionally. Is that just an outsider view? It seems as if Brazil is well prepared this time around.

Yes, it is being handled very professionally and not too different from previous World Cups.

But a friendly in Brazil was considered but for some reason they ended up deciding against it. Maybe it was because the Brazilian league won't stop until a few days before the World Cup, so finding a venue would have been hard. Or maybe they couldn't find an opponent.

No?

We're boosting Panama's and Iceland's confidence tbf, no time for tinpot nations. :(

The problem is making someone accept to come to Brazil. Argentina faced Haiti while Peru played against Scotland, but European team tend to prefer to play only in Europe.

Roger that. Have you lined up friendlies in Europe before the WC?

Yes, but there was still a date available for late May (around 27 May) which was supposed to be the game in Brazil before going to Europe, but that date ended up wasted.

17:00 Austria v Germany

Almost like a local game, like England vs Scotland.

Brazil play against Croatia tomorrow.
