SixPointer
We go up against the Italian giants in the quarter final a team laden with quality with massive attacking threats. A massive 1-0 win at home. Taking a clean sheet to Naples is massive. Our full backs kept there two lethal wide men at bay very pleasing. Possibly my biggest result as Heerenveen manager to date the early goal left the home side chasing us naturally it played into our hands. A trip to Stamford Bridge to face the mighty Chelsea in the Semi Final I prefer the away tie first as I fancy us at home against any side so if we can keep the tie alive till the second leg we have a chance. I feared the worst after 2 miniutes but we recovered well and started to knock the ball about and kept us in the tie. Hazard looking scary at times we may need to come up with a plan second leg. A Carneiro penalty takes the tie into added time and then penalty's. We performed on the night especially keeping hazard quiet changing Ter Avest to a DFB instead of a wing back worked wonders. Kluivert had a chance to get his side back in the shootout but it wasn't to be!! And we are off into the final! Another London side in the final my only issue is do I attack or counter will have to do some serious scouting before I decide. Our task has been made more difficult with Mathew already missing out Lucas Silva is out now. Both sides line up 4-1-2-3 I opted to start on the break as it has proved a great weapon on this European run. We started excellently and justly got our lead but we lapsed just before half time and we go in 1-1 at the break the game was balanced both teams attacking regularly but the defences were on top and the game went onto penalty's. Erling Haland missed his spot kick and our dreams off European glory vanished. But we can hold our head up high as we claimed some massive scalps played some fantastic football and enjoyed ourselves along the way and gave our fans a wonderful experience getting to the final. 3 players make the euro cup squad of the season Mathew, Hahn and Carneiro surprised Pierie didn't make it he was solid as well. We are crowned biggest overachievers which tells you all you need to know about how big an achievement getting to the final was. Xadas runs away with player and young player rightly so he's been sensational. Mathews volley against AZ I cant think of a better strike all season there were better team goals but as strike goes this is sublime. Lucas Silva proved a great addition and filled the void of club captain Schaars after his retirement. Goal Of The Season The under 19's follow up the senior sides success with a league and cup double! the future looks promising. To summarise its been another fantastic season in the north of Holland with Heerenveen its a pitty we couldn't put the cherry on the top losing in the final. I'm very happy with the progression but am I think we have a tough summer ahead to keep a hold of our best players but we will look to progress again one things for sure our style of play will still be there. Thanks for everyone who has read and commented and followed this thread I hope you continue to join me into the next season with the mighty VEEN!
