Makoto Nakamura
Another Makoto brain-fart that he has to document and write about to some degree. I was thinking about FM today and this idea jumped in to my head, it was partially inspired by @smp20 and his youth challenges in different countries but still in the same thread and it was with that that this idea was formed. What I plan on doing is a journeyman(ish) save with no editor data or added leagues, just the bog standard 17.3 database. I'll be loading one nation with a large database and all the players with national reputation in Europe loaded starting with Spain because it has the highest reputation and then working my way down the list of European leagues sorted by league reputation, but each nation will be it's own save. The club I'll be managing is whichever club is predicted to finish lowest in their division BUT is in the Europa League for the first season so I'll be at a big club but not a giant in each country, and since I've managed so many tiny clubs I thought this could be a nice change whilst still presenting a challenge. The aim is to win the Champions League but the save in Spain won't be over until the end of the season after I win the Club World Cup. Once I win the Club World Cup and finished the season after the Champions League winning season then I start a new save with the club predicted lowest in Germany whilst still being in the Europa League. To make this more difficult/challenging/interesting I also won't be allowed to sign any players that aren't the nationality of the club I'm managing so in Spain I can only sign Spaniards, Germany only Germans and so on. I have a few more ideas to extend on this save but since I won't get time to fully complete it in the 3 and a bit months I'll leave that as a surprise for then. Hopefully this makes sense and if not then hopefully it will become clear as it develops!
Makoto Nakamura
Nation 1 - Spain Club 1 - Celta Vigo Predicted to finish 11th, Celta Vigo are who we're trying this out with first. Good enough facilities which I'll be looking to improve in my tenure here to help with the Spanish only rule. And what of the squad I'm inheriting? First Team: An average age of 25 and the oldest player being Gustavo Cabral aged just 30, we seem solid all-round. B Team: Rated from ResA to ResZb for potential, so I can keep track of everyone if I choose too, Pape Cheikh and Diego Alende are ones to watch in the future. Under 19's: Not so great here I'm afraid, Alex Rey may make it but he's in the same position as Pape Cheikh, and is also the same age. Top 3 First Teamers: Top 3 B Teamers (potentially): Top 3 Youth Teamers:
Makoto Nakamura
2016/17 Pre-Season A worrying draw against our B team but we were solid throughout pre-season. All I have to do in the league is avoid relegation, expectations are quite a bit higher in the Europa League though. 2 players with 4* potential bought in on the cheap. Makoto Nakamura
August 2016 I couldn't have asked for a better start to the season! We kept a clean sheet against Barcelona and scored 2 in the 2nd half to give us a win and a quite late goal was enough to see off Las Palmas to put us top of the table after 2 games. Here's the draw for the Europa League, Ajax will be tough if they're as good as they were in real life but I think we'll have enough to get through. 2 more players in and one permanent exit. Makoto Nakamura
September 2016 A few injuries to first teamers have really affected us as we fall to 8th in the league and we let our lead slip against Ajax to lose at home.
Makoto Nakamura
October 2016 Some problems with injuries but we've managed to improve and somehow managed to destroy Osasuna 6-1! And we're now in the Europa League places.
Makoto Nakamura
November 2016 Perfect November! Just the one goal conceded in the Europa League and we're guaranteed European football in 2017 whilst in the league we're temporarily in a Champions League spot ahead of Real Madrid! Makoto Nakamura
December 2016 A disappointing draw against Bilbao where they equalised in the 89th minute and then a draw in the 2nd leg of the Copa del Rey, we face Girona in the 5th Round so that should be easier. In the Europa League our head-to-head record of scoring one more goal away to Ajax has put us through as group winners! We face Rapid Wien, Ajax face West Ham. Makoto Nakamura
January 2017 Just a defeat to Barcelona in the league, who we now also face in the Copa del Rey Semi Final. We're sitting rather nicely in 3rd and still in with a chance of a Champions League spot and we'd need to drop a lot of points to fall out of contention for a Europa League spot. No-one came in but I'm gutted we lost Pape Cheikh, he wouldn't sign a new contract and his release clause was £3.6m, I'm not too fussed on losing John Guidetti as we don't use strikers. Makoto Nakamura
February 2017 We beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey Semi Final :O Obviously we're facing Real Madrid in the final, in the league the battle for European spots is hotting up as the top 6 have pulled away, if we don't manage to get it then we'll be much weaker going into next season as there has to be at least 6 players who are only still here due to the promise of Champions League football next season! In the Europa League we breezed past Rapid Wien 7-0 on aggregate and get another nice draw in the 2nd Knockout Round.

Makoto Nakamura
March 2017 Through to the Europa League Quarter Final so we've exceeded expectations there and in La Liga we're looking better and better for a Champions League spot as we sit 8 points clear of Atletico Madrid and both of us have a game in hand. Ajax are probably the easiest draw, and they were in our group.

Makoto Nakamura
April 2017 Defeats away to Valencia and Real Madrid but otherwise perfect and with 3 games left we've secured Champions League qualification, maybe my players will want to stay next season now! In the Europa League we beat Ajax 7-4 on aggregate and now face Juventus in the Semi Final, our most difficult matches by far.
Makoto Nakamura
End of Season 2016/17 Silverware in my first season! I knew Juventus were going to be tough and they proved to be much stronger than we were as we lost 6-3 on aggregate, they then beat Southampton 1-0 in the Final. A strong end to the La Liga as we climb above Barcelona on the final day to finish 2nd! Best XI: Sergio Alvarez Gustavo Cabral - Andreu Fontas - Sergi Gomez Hugo Mallo Jonny Jozabed - Daniel Wass Pablo Hernandez - Iago Aspas - Andrew Hjulsager
Makoto Nakamura
2017/18 Pre-Season A great pre-season with just the defeat to Man City that looked bad, and it was the only game for the home fans The board want a top 7 finish and the media think we'll finish 8th, hopefully we can get Champions League again though. Quite a lot of activity this summer with both incomings and outgoings aplenty. Real Madrid have been the big spenders so far, shelling out £92m on Eden Hazard.
Makoto Nakamura
August 2017 A difficult start to the season, we won the Supercopa 6-4 on aggregate against Real Madrid and then picked up a point at home to Real Madrid before a surprise defeat away to Real Zaragoza. One more incoming, maybe for the future but could just be for re-sale in a few years, 4* potential and £500k from Rayo Vallecano. A lot more leaving on loan. Europa League anyone? Makoto Nakamura
September 2017 A terrible month, we won big away to Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Dynamo Kyiv but we're losing, narrowly, to clubs who we should easily be beating, clubs have sussed that they can't be as attacking against us this season and can attack us on the counter, as with the Gijon game where we had a 67% possession despite us having a counter mentality.
Makoto Nakamura
October 2017 That's better, we're grinding out the results but it's still not totally convincing. In the league it looks like it's really close after 11 games with us being down in 9th but just 5 points off of 2nd and in the Champions League we lose at home to Juventus but we beat them away from home to keep us in with a slim hope of qualifying with 2 games remaining. Makoto Nakamura
November 2017 Another really good month with Dynamo Kyiv doing us a massive favour by beating Juventus meaning all we need to do is get a better result than Juventus in the last match for us to go through to the 1st Knockout Round. The league is looking odd with just 9 points separating 1st and 11th and then 9 points separating 11th and 13th with Real Madrid down in 7th and Barcelona in 8th! Makoto Nakamura
December 2017 Just the defeat away to Real Valladolid that's keeping us off of the top spot as everyone is dropping points and it seems strange to be at almost the halfway point of the season and the leaders only having 39 points, we're also through to the knockout round of the Champions League! We beat Juventus, can we beat Inter?

Makoto Nakamura
January 2018 2 big, big wins! a 7-0 demolition of Granada in the cup and that followed up with a 20 minute masterclass from Iago Aspas as we defeated Barcelona 5-2! The league has really split into 2 groups now with 1st-11th being group 1 and 12th-20th being group 2, with everyone in group 1 having positive goal difference and everyone in group 2 having negative. We brought in one player over the winter break, a young defender from Cadiz for £325K. He's also at his 5th club (kind of) this season!

Makoto Nakamura
February 2018 The goals have dried up since the middle of the month and it pushes us down to 5th and we have to be careful of not falling any lower now and we have the worst form of the top 10 over the last 5 games. Makoto Nakamura
March 2018 Perfect month in the league sees us hit the top of the table but if Real Madrid win their game in hand then it's down to 2nd we go, we also squeezed past Inter in the Champions League. Italy, again. 3 Italian teams qualified for the group stage, we pushed Juventus down to the Europa League, we've knocked out Inter and now we have A.C. Milan.
Makoto Nakamura
April 2018 We did the triple over the Italians But we drew Real MAdrid in the Semi Final and we scored 2 away goals but it's going to be tough to get through to the final, the other Semi is Man Utd vs Monaco. In the league it looks like Real Madrid will win that again as well with a game in hand and being 2 points clear.
Makoto Nakamura
End of Season 2017/18 Defeat to Barcelona loses us the title and gives Barcelona Champions League football for next season. overall I'm still very pleased with how the season went and we finished with the 2nd best offence and the best defence. Our B team won the 2nd tier!
