Ok its about that time to think about a new Official FMS Challenge. If you think you have an idea that would be worthy of the status you have two options:

1. You can post it on here, and gain valuable feedback and so on about your idea.

2. If you are shy you can email it to me, but that way no-one will ever be able to read it icon_wink.gif Well not quite, because I will post it in here eventually so it's probably easier just to post it here.

We'll run the nominations round for say a week or so, depending on responses and then take it from there.

If there is anything you want to ask about the challenge proceedure, please feel free to do so.

If Simon or Mike could unsticky the old challenge thread and sticky this one for now, that would be most appreciated!

All right ... let me try this on for size. Herewith, I present ...

The "Glory, Glory, Old Glory Challenge"

One of the best things about FM for me is to learn how the European game is played and to try to make the grade overseas. Now it's time for the world to come to the States...

Level One

Using any MLS team, win the MLS Cup. You must do this using no more than three non-American players.

Level Two

Using that same MLS team, win the CONCACAF Champions Cup. You must do this using an all-American squad.

Level Three

Now it's time to head to Europe. Obtain any top-flight job in England, Scotland, Germany, France, Italy or Spain. Win that league's top flight. Here's the catch: four of the players from your CONCACAF Champions Cup winning side must accompany you to Europe and play in at least half your club's league games.

How's that for a start?

Got a couple of ideas to put forward, though given the fact that I've only ever come up with one half decent challenge idea don't expect them to be any good. We might as well just wait and see what Bob comes up with and then vote for that icon_razz.gif

Trans-Siberian Railway

Whilst on holiday in Moscow, you decide to take in the spectacular sights on the Trans-Siberian railway, switching to the Trans-Mongolian line for a journey all the way to Beijing. The only problem is that you don’t have enough money for the ticket, and the only way the pesky Ruskies will allow you on board is if you win some nice, shiny football trophies.

Stage 1 – Moscow

Take control of any Moscow club (bonus points for doing it with anyone other than CSKA). To win your ticket for the first leg of the journey, you must win the league and cup double and a European trophy (UEFA Cup will do, but the Champions League is for real men).

Stage 2 – Europe/Asia Border

Unfortunately, your ticket only got you as far as Perm, home of the most easterly club to compete in top flight football in Europe. To earn passage into China, you must guide the local team, FC Amkar Perm, to wins in both the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup.

Stage 3 – Beijing

Having been let into China, your journey is trouble-free until your destination, Beijing. Unfortunately, they have no intention of merely letting you sightsee. Forced to take on Beijing Guoan, you must win the Chinese Super League twice and also lift the AFC Champions League. It goes without saying that you must do all this whilst becoming a human rights violator.

Stage 4 – World Stage

Before being allowed to return home, you have one final challenge. You must take control of either the Chinese or Russian national side and guide them to at least the Quarter Finals of the World Cup. Once this has been achieved, you are free to return home to witness the protest marches which have been organised to condemn you.

Ernst Happel Challenge

Regarded amongst the very best managers to have graced the game, the 51 times capped Austrian remains one of only two coaches (Ottmar Hitzfeld being the other) to have won the European Cup with two different clubs.

Ernst began his managerial career with ADO Den Haag, winning the Dutch Cup before moving to Feyenoord. Whilst with the Rotterdam club, he won the Dutch Championship, European Cup and Intercontinental Cup.

He went on to lead Club Brugge to several domestic titles before joining Hamburg in 1981. In both 1982 and 1983 he guided Hamburg to the title, combining his 1983 success with his second victory in the European Cup.

In 1987, Ernst returned to his homeland to manage FC Swarovski Tirol and, unsurprisingly, won two Austrian titles with the club. In the midst of all this, Ernst took over the Dutch national side and guided them to the final of the 1978 World Cup, losing to Argentina.

Your goal is to try and match, even perhaps to surpass, the great man’s achievements. You must guide teams from four different nations to success in their domestic championship. Three of your clubs must also win their domestic cup competition, whilst with two of them you must go on to win the Champions League. Finally, with one of your Champions League winning clubs, you must win the Club World Championship (or whatever it’s called this year).

To finish off the challenge, you must take the national side from the first country you managed in and with them win the World Cup.

Harald Hardrada’s Viking Challenge

Harald was the last great Viking king and his invasion of England in 1066 forced Harold Godwinson to send his forces North to defend against the Vikings. After beating the Vikings at Stamford Bridge, Godwinson was then forced to rush back down South as he tried to repel the invasion of the Normans. Harald’s death at Stamford Bridge is generally considered to be the end of the Viking era.

Now, this is your chance to revive the Viking traditions by doing what Harald never could. Lay claim to the English crown.

Stage I: Youth

Harald was born in 1015 in Norway. He was one of the younger half-brothers of the Norwegian King Olaf and had a relatively protected youth.

Your task in this stage is to take charge of a Norwegian club and lead them for one season while not getting sacked or relegated. Your nationality must be Norwegian.

Stage II: Exile to the Kingdom of Rus

In 1030 Harald took part in the Battle of Stiklestad where King Olaf was killed defending his throne. Harald was wounded in battle and forced into exile. He was able to form a band of warriors with others who were exiled after the king’s death and served in the armies of King Yaroslav I of Kievan Rus. He quickly worked his way through the ranks and was appointed joint commander of the defence forces.

Your goal is to take charge at a club from the lower leagues of Ukraine, Belarus or Western Russia (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Kievan_Rus_en.jpg) and win promotion to the top league. Your must build a strong defence during your rule and not concede more that 1 goal per game on average.

Stage III: The Varangian Guard of Constantinople

After his time in Kievan Rus, Harald and his men moved further South to the heart of the Byzantine Empire, the city of Constantinople. Here he and his men joined an elite mercenary unit known as the Varangian Guard. Harald quickly established himself here as well and became the leader of the entire Guard.

To emulate Harald’s success, you must take charge at a club from modern day Constantinople (ie. Istanbul) and win the Turkish league. You must not lose against any of the other Istanbul teams, either in the league or in cup competitions.

Stage IV: Return to Norway

Harald returned to Norway in 1045, bringing with him many of his men from the Varangian Guard. Initially, he agreed to share power with sitting King Magnus, his nephew, but when Magnus died a year after Harald’s return, he claimed the throne for himself.

Return to a Norwegian club and claim two Norwegian league titles in three years.

Stage V: Invading England

An apparent agreement between the Kings of England and Norway where if either died without an heir, the other would inherit both England and Norway, led Harald to invade England in 1066. Though he died at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, his invasion is generally believed to have helped the Normans defeat the Anglo-Saxons at the Battle of Hastings as the latter had to race across the country to repel the invaders.

Your task is to succeed where Harald failed. Take charge of an English club and lead them to winning a Premier League title.

Leagues: Norway, Belarus/Ukraine/Russia, Turkey, England

Only Fools and Horses Challenge

Stage 1 - 'You little Plonker'

You are Derek 'Del-Boy' Trotter, a typical* If the club is in debt when you take over, you have 18 months to get them back into the black, wheeling and dealing Cockney, whose main ambition in life is to become a successful millionaire businessman. You live on a council estate in Peckham, but suddenly your life is changed when the chairman of Millwall (or any London club outside the Premiership and Championship) comes to you in desperation. You are the only man who can save his team, and you are trusted with the players. Your aim is simple. Get the club into the Premiership, and keep them there for a season. However, there is a snag. You must use your powers of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market, and the fee of any one player must never be more than £1,000,000 pounds. In other words, not more than one million. Also, try and keep your money coming in more than your money going out (income beating expenditure)*. There is no time limit as such, but it must be less than a decade

Stage 2 - 'This time next year we'll be Millionaires'

Having taken your London club into the top flight, you must then move onto another major English city and do the same (for example, if Manchester City are in League One, or Notts County etc), again, not spending any more than £1,000,000 and keeping your income higher than expenditure. Once you have taken the side into the top flight, you have completed stage 2

Stage 3 - 'Time on our Hands'

Having established yourself as a manager, take charge of any London club in the Premiership (although not your original one, if they are still there). Take this side to a treble of Premiership, Champions League and F.A/Carling Cup, again using your wheeling and dealing powers to the best effects possible

Stage 4 - 'Sleepless in Peckham'

Return to your original club, and with them win any European trophy. Once that is done, you have completed the challenge, and made yourself a successful millionaire businessman

Bonus Stage - Take England to World Cup and European Championship Glory

* If the club is in the red when you take over, you have 12 months to get them back into the black

This is just an idea, and if anybody sees any flaws, or anything that could be improved, feel free to add to it. At the minute, the Ernst Happel challenge sounds good, and certainly one I would try

The Neil Watt Challenge

Managing Stranraer, win promotion from the Scottish Third Division and thereafter from the Second Division with the same squad of players.

Thereafter leave the club after one season in the First Division using the same players (and probably resulting in relegation).

After almost a year out of the game, take the Ayr United job, keeping the team in the Second Division that season. In the summer sign as many of the players you had at Stranraer as possible, in the process ****ing off as many existing Ayr players as you can.

That done, proceed to obtain middling to poor results and quit the club six weeks after the transfer window closes, having ensured the formation of two cliques at the club and ruined any chance of promotion for another year.
