ManUtd1
Africa Cup of Nations; Tunisia 2071 This is nothing if not a well-trod path. Looking for our third-straight AFCON championship, we're the clear favorites. Our pre-tournament friendlies were nothing to wax lyrical about. We got the job done. The Group Stage was more straightforward than I expected, with Ghana and South Africa barely putting up a fight. We were unlucky to draw Cape Verde in the quarterfinals, but their Golden Generation is aging rapidly. We took them apart. Cameroon was straightforward in the semifinals, leaving us to face...Ghana, in a rematch, the Black Stars having eliminated the hosts. Again, Ghana put up little resistance even if our tired legs couldn't find the back of the net. A rotated squad still saw us through as Champions. Guehi wanted to retire (at 29...?), but I talked him out of it. We'll want him for the 2074 World Cup in Brazil. For now, though, it's back to Germany. The Bundesliga and Europa League wait for no man.
ManUtd1
Das ist mir Wurst Bayer Leverkusen / Côte d'Ivoire February 2071 Mini-Update An incredible first leg against the Belgians, but we've come undone. We're out of Europe. Sitting 7th with 12 matches to play, I like our chances to re-qualify for the Europa League (which was always the goal). We've managed to keep our head above water while expanding the squad, and relying on newly-signed youth. That should start to pay off next year... Should... ManUtd1
Not too many surprises as we glance around Europe. Panathinaikos is struggling mightily. I really hope to get there one day. The Champions League is boring...again. Dijon could win it and complete the challenge. They've won 8 straight Ligue 1 titles...they're kind of due. ManUtd1
Hast du etwas Zeit für mich, dann singe ich ein Lied für dich Bayer Leverkusen / Côte d'Ivoire 2070/71 Season Review This was to be a big year. Our first steps into Europe, and a need to maintain our position in the Bundesliga. The last two months of the season saw us in good position for the Europa League. We held our nerve and, surprisingly, others did not. On the final day, we beat Wolfsburg to deny them the title...and Bayern lost to Frankfurt, meaning that we finished 4th and in the Champions League positions. Incredibly, that was not the last twist. Wolfsburg? Yeah, not only were they denied the title...they failed FFP and were barred from the Champions League. Meaning that Bayern will take their place. The table is set. We're into the Champions League. The final frontier. A big piece of the puzzle will arrive next month, both literally and figuratively. We've signed long-term target, Lars Forthmann, Furth's 20 year-old starting goalkeeper for the past 3 years. He's 6'4", and top class. The best part? We tapped him up like a telegraph operator, such that he refused to sign a new contract and instead signed with us on a free. Goals for 2071/72: Not embarrass ourselves in the Champions League. What happened to Septemb...oh, yeah. That happened. Ciprian swore that we'd not discuss it further, so... Domestically, our form is top-class. We're joint-top, 2nd on goal difference -- far better than any would have expected. We drew a brutal Champions League group, but haven't embarrassed ourselves with a draw against the mighty Inter, a narrow loss at Old Trafford and a win over Fenerbache. We sit 3rd, one point ahead of United...with 2 matches to play, we'll be lucky to reach the Europa League knockout rounds. The Ivorians continue to decimate all-comers. Poor Burundi drew us in the 2nd Round of the CAF Qualifying rounds. 26 goals later...and we close out the year undefeated. Who'd have thought? Top of the league at the holiday break. More incredibly? We managed to snatch all 3 points against United at home on the final Champions League matchday, meaning that we jumped from 4th to... 2nd. A berth in the knockout rounds. I had high hopes for a trip to Elfsborg, improbable winners of Group F. But instead we drew West Ham, which means our run is all but over. No one can deny it. ManUtd1
Wer Feuer frißt, scheißt Funken Bayer Leverkusen / Côte d'Ivoire March 2072 Mini-Update A solid 1st leg in Germany where we played on the counter meant that we were 90 minutes from the biggest upset in Leverkusen’s recent history. The first 45 in London were brutal – under heavy pressure, occasionally breaking forward to threaten. Right before the break, we struck. 2-nil on aggregate. But, with the hammer ready to fall…we hit another in the 56th, on the counter. A commanding lead, but there’s more than enough time for West Ham to claw their way back into the match. But it wasn’t to be. As West Ham pushed, we struck on the counter, yet again. The gameplan has worked perfectly. Until West Ham snatched 2 goals, leaving them needing only 3 goals in 12 minutes…not entirely beyond the realm of possibility…Sogodogo clears one off the line in the 83rd…but the Hammers grab a 3rd in the 89th…level on the night, but we’re still up 1 on aggregate (with an away goal advantage)… But the clock runs down. We’re through to the quarterfinals. Against all odds. We draw Leeds, who scraped past Elfsborg on away goals. Domestically, we remain strong. Level on points with Dortmund at the top of the table. Surreal. Edited October 7, 2017 by ManUtd1

But, we take the pitch in PM Foquiado, just like against West Ham, to ensure that we are not run over by their narrow 433. 8th minute, a dangerous free kick from 20 yards…Sogodogo buries it. A dream start. We have a few chances to extend our lead in the first half but don’t take them. Leeds snatch an equalizer in the 55th and hit the bar in the 90th, but… Game on. No change to our gameplan. Foquiado. Hit them in transition. We hold firm in the first half, but can’t find a way through. With 30 to play, it’s anyone’s tie. In the 65th, Forthmann claims a cross and switches play, heaving a long throw to Henke running down the left…he finds Sogodogo, who PLAYS IN REYNOLDS…THE AUSTRALIAN BURIES IT! 1-NIL ON THE NIGHT, 2-1 ON AGGREGATE!!! 3 minutes later, we counter and earn a corner…Leeds fail to clear and, with the ball ping-ponging around the box…SHABANI!!! THAT’S 2!!! LEEDS NEED 3 GOALS!!! The Yorkshire side cannot find a foothold. We’re through to the semifinals, as one of three German sides to progress along with Dijon. We draw Leipzig, a side we beat at home 1-nil, but lost to 2-0 away. Domestically, we’re 1 point clear of Champions League semifinalist Dortmund and 2 clear of Leipzig, who hold a major advantage on goal difference. 5 Bundesliga matches to play and, of all things, a European semifinal. ManUtd1
Wer Feuer frißt, scheißt Funken Bayer Leverkusen / Côte d'Ivoire May 2072 Mini-Update At this level, the margins are thin. In the 1st leg we had several opportunities but didn't capitalize...rattling the woodwork twice in the first half, with a goal called back. We looked likely to find a way through, until the East Germans scored. An error by Forthmann, our major signing last summer from Furth, a beast in the goal...who can't hold a simple shot, allowing for an uncontested tap-in. Meaning we had to go East and attack...we played cautiously to begin, only for Leipzig to hit one in the 11th minute. And then hit us again in the 14th. We were dead on our feet. Koffi managed to snatch a late goal to give us some hope, but it wasn't to be. Eliminated at the semifinal stage, 3-1 on aggregate. Leipzig will play in their first Champions League title against French giants Dijon, who stomped Dortmund 5-nil in the first leg of their semifinal. Domestically, we cling to a narrow lead. 1 point clear, although Dortmund hold the advantage on goal difference. We host Ingolstadt on the weekend, before traveling to Frankfurt on the final matchday. Dortmund is away to Schalke, and then away to Gladbach. Who will blink? We're assured of a spot in next year's Champions League Group Stage. The question being, will we be seeded in Pot A as the Bundesliga champions, or stuck in Pot C or D based on our coefficient? ManUtd1
Bayer Leverkusen / Côte d'Ivoire November 2072 -- Leverkusen Squad Review Alright, let's take a closer look at the Leverkusen squad, and where we sit after the run to the CL semifinals last year. There's some great potential here. A handful of players I'd initially relied on simply haven't made the cut, but this current squad looks the business. Goalkeepers Forthmann is a beast. It was a long wait to sign him from Furth but he's been well-worth it. Cisse is solid, and the first Ivorian I've seen who might have the potential to challenge 22 year-old N'Guessan for the No. 1 jersey with the national team. Suffice to say that Leverkusen are set between the sticks. Liberos Another position where I think we're stacked. Groß is a solid first-team player, with Paraguayan Florentin a more than capable backup. Another position where we're more than talented enough to compete for the CL title. Defenders Sery and Moller are my centerback pairing, flanked by Rother (still a standout star) and Henke. Mesa and Kuoyo are the backups on the flanks, with tremendous potential. Chornyi was a massive signing, and is coming on leaps-and-bunds with some time in games. Ouattara, Lundberg and Konate need match-time...but they're kind of the deep backups here. I've got some serious talent here, certainly enough to win the CL. I had high hopes for Konate and Ouattara...frustrated with their progress. I really need to loan them out. Central Midfielders Zuma and Shabani are my central midfield pairing. Zuma has proven to be everything I'd hoped, even if his determination is beneath what I'd want. Shabani...what a signing he's been. They're easily good enough to take this team to the CL title. Derou and Diarra are my backups here, the former hasn't developed as much as I'd like with Diarra needing to show some development. Attacking Midfielders Up top, we run with Toual and Sogodogo flanking Australian Carl Reynolds. An attacking trident with more than enough firepower to get us to the pinnacle. Reynolds is absolutely immense. Signed on a free after his time at the FFA COE ran out. Off the bench, we've got Ivorians Bamba-Kouassi, Koffi and Osuchukwu, each of whom can do the business. Academy lad Garnier plays off the bench for our 2nd XI, and he could be the best of the lot when all is said and done. Final Thoughts As we proved last year, this squad is capable of making a run in the CL at any time. While I think we need some depth at CM/CB (1 for each), we're otherwise prepared to put out 2 solid XIs. The foundation is being laid here for a side that will compete for years to come...I'm just ready to get out of Koln's stadium and back into our own. ManUtd1
The Ivorians continue to annihilate everyone, as we prepare for Nigeria 2073 and what could be our 4th straight AFCON title. I'll do a full squad review before the tournament.
