A 3-1 win Conference Norht side Matlock sees us through to the FA Cup proper.

A poor start to the month with a loss to Maldon & Tiptree, but we went to Guisely and won and then got a last gasp equaliser at Forest Green and Bromley. We came from behind to get a point against Solihull Moors too, but we've definitely been lucky this month, we could easily have lost all 3 of our last 3 games.

We're hanging in there for now. A couple of losses could see us free fall down the table though.

Despite now finding themselves in the 7th tier, Eastleigh still gave us a hell of a game at home in our first match, so much so that they dragged us to a replay at theirs. That game just 3 days later seemed a step too far for them and we scored 3 again without much in the way of reply.

An unbeaten month in the league, which saw two 3-0 wins against Chesterfield and Portsmouth and three draws. We did well to get a draw against Colney Heath as they battered us despite being a relegation fighting team, they must've thought they'd got a much needed 3 points but we came back to get a late point.

We now find ourselves in the Playoff places with a game in hand on the teams ahead of us. It's looking pretty good so far as we approach the half-way point of the season, the real test now will be managing to stay in the Playoff positions for the second half of the season.

We beat Matlock comfortably away from home in our first match of our FA Trophy defence, with Sainsbury getting a hat-trick.

We beat fellow Conference side Dagenham & Redridge 3-1 away to make it through to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. I'm hoping it will be a fun one and we can get an interesting draw. Dream would be another non-league side or a massive Premier League match.

A very strong end to 2040 with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. The Wigan game was probably the craziest of the bunch, we went 4-0 up in the 49th minute and yet still somehow almost only got a point out of it when Wigan launched a comeback. The most important win was the 2-1 at home to Port Vale, who were still top of the table at the time so it was a big boost for morale and confidence.

The table is certainly getting more interesting now. Just 5 points off of Forest Green and we have games in hand on Portsmouth and Maidstone.

We name a more or less full strength side for the away tie at Selhurst Park, the only exception being the absence of loanee striker, Josh Sainsbury, who sadly picked up a thigh strain in Margate mid-week and will miss it. 11,666 have turned up to watch, with 941 of the Salford locals turning up to cheer us on. Hopefully we can give them something to shout about!

4 minutes: Palenik driving forward for Palace into the Salford half, he slots it across to Srhoj in the middle of the park, he passes ahead of him to Werenskiold, Gary Smith's made a run into the box, he's found him, Smith WITH THE CHANCE....OH AND HE'S SMASHED IT HOME! A big goal for Palace early doors and it's CRYSTAL PALACE 1-0 SALFORD CITY

19 minutes: Mottley playing the ball forward now for Palace as they look for another, he passes out to his right where Alonso is chasing forward on the overlap, he dances past Brown at left back and has three Palace players waiting for him in the middle, Alonso with the cross... it's GARY SMITH... but the header is saved by Ryan James! A big save from the Salford keeper!

30 minutes: Mustafa Vo has the ball on the left for Palace, he's got Smith ahead of him in the middle and Srhoj on the right side of the pitch, Vo squares it to Srhoj who picks it up and takes on Brown, he gets past him no problem with his pace and whips in a cross... Bullock gets a head to it for Salford but it's only as far as Mottley on the outside of the box... MOTTLEY WITH THE STRIKE....OH AND HE'S HIT THE BAR AND IT'S GONE OUT! Palace so close to another there.

38th minute:  Salford have barely been in the game at all. Nick Owens has it in the middle of the pitch, perhaps he can start something, he looks to find Barnett but no it's intercepted by Mottley, Palace could break away here, it's Mottley to Sroj, Sroj hits it long up to Gary Smith, Gary Smith makes his way into the box again with just the keeper to aim at.... oh and that's another fine save from Ryan James to keep the non-league side in it!

52nd minute: Sinnott with a throw in on the right hand side in Palace's half. He finds an unmarked Owens, he's not got much to aim at in the box but he hits a gaping cross towards Clackstone... Clackstone with a header towards the far post... oh and Mavretic heads it away off the line! A real chance for Salford!

55th minute: Mottley hits a ball towards Alonso breaking free on the right wing, he's got time and space to get a cross into the Salford box, Alonso towards Vo... Vo heads it but Holt is there to stop it on the line and batter it away!

57th minute: Salford have a free kick on the right side of the Palace box about 25 yards from goal. Davis stands over it. Plenty of his team-mates are in the box waiting for it. It's towards WEST...oh and it's a poor header which the keeper easily picks up. Another wasted chance really.

59th minute: Mottley leading the counter attack for Palace. He knocks it up to Vo who has Gary West ahead of him to his left, he lobs it to Smith who knocks it down as he makes it into the box, he turns and that's a smart finish! It's CRYSTAL PALACE 2-0 SALFORD CITY and you have to think that's game over now for the non-league side.

72nd minute: Palenik leading the charge in the Salford half. He passes out wide to substitute Delgado, he's run right across the goal almost to the by line, oh and that's an inviting pass across the goal...MOTTLEY IS THERE! You have to say he deserves a goal for his contributions today and it's CRYSTAL PALACE 3-0 SALFORD CITY

We got tied against Kettering away in the FA Trophy. They're a Conference side but they look likely to go down this season so it wasn't a really difficult draw, they gave us a couple of problems but we had too much for them. It was 3-0 at half-time, then 4-0 after 50 minutes, they did get a few goals back to cause a bit of a worry but thankfully it was just the 2.

f56333a34c07ee7bb9a28a45e1a969b5.png

We did our best against Palace but they were too strong. We got a fair bit of money from this and I was hoping it would be enough to put us out of the red and let me upgrade my badges, unfortunately it only got us to -£2K which was pretty annoying, so close yet so far :D

85dafbd5e21f54ab8c0553fd96693214.png

We started 2041 much like we ended 2040, in good form, with 3 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss. We got quite fortunate against Altrincham as that game looked destined to be a 0-0 but then Michael Brown managed to latch onto a rebound from 2 yards out after we nearly scored from a direct free-kick. The loss to Margate was annoying but we had Louis Langston sent off at 1-0 which didn't help.

With 12 games to go we sit in 3rd place. I'm quite pleased with this and barring a massive collapse we should make the Playoffs. We are just 3 points off of Forest Green and still play them, so we have an outside chance at the title, but I don't think we are strong enough to win more or less every game we have left which we would need to do. We'll see how it goes though.

February

A bit frustrating that John Terry's Glossop took us to a replay since they're the league below us, but we at least got the job done at home 3 days later. The Quarter Finals await!

6bbefa081140b7f467f63f1b220da327.png

Not a great month as we hit a bit of a slump. Forest Green was a really mad game, we made it 3-3 in the 68th minute and I thought for sure we'd get what would've been a decent point, then they managed to put 3 past us in the last 20 minutes. Bad times.

b02f975c4c95c1c8bdc5e685f462542a.png

The title of course gone now. With 8 games left we still have a slight battle on our hands to make the Playoffs as Maidstone are chasing us down and we still have to play them.

March

This was really annoying. We got a good draw in Conference North side Hyde but not only could we not finish the job in the first game, but we then blew the replay after being 1-0 up after 5 minutes. I wish we'd gone out in the first match rather than drag it to another replay we could've done without.

4558d8ce27b718c9a13ff2708c56b4f1.png

I'm not sure if the mid-week replay had any impact but we got absolutely smashed at Bromley. Thankfully we recovered from that to beat Joe Hart's Solihull Moors 2-1, but then lost at Tividal. Colney Heath are rock bottom of the table, but despite being 2-0 up at half-time we let them right back in it and they almost got a point, with only a 90th minute penalty finally sinking them.

42dd998aa06700b3831f7a3ebea77683.png

4 games to go and you'd like to think we'd made the Playoffs at this point, but we do still have Maidstone and Portsmouth to play yet so there's room for two losses there which could open it up for the chasing pack to nip in.

April/May

It wasn't the strongest of finishes to the season, but thankfully we still finished 3rd. Port Vale finish as champions which means they'll be back in the Football League after just under 20 years out of it. Forest Green were 2nd, with Wrexham 4th and Portsmouth 5th.

We have been drawn against Wrexham in the Playoff Semis and face a trip to Wales for the 1st leg.

We name a full strength team in Wales. Main aim of the game here is to get a goal or two. A 2-2 or something would suit us fine. We're good going forward, not great at the back but as long as get a couple of away goals I think we'll be all set for the return leg. Easier said than done though of course.

14th minute: Clackstone wins the ball just in the left hand side of the Wrexham half, he has Sainsbury ahead of him, Sainsbury across to the right handside to Davis, Davis out wide to Dodds who's on the overlap...Dodds go for a cross or is it a shot...OH AND HE'S HIT THE POST!! That would've been some goal if it had gone in!

26th minute: Jones starting a move for Wrexham as they look to break, he's hit it up towards Thorne who has nobody ahead of him and 4 Salford defenders to get past. Thorne's gonna go alone, or is he, it looks like he's going to strike it from 25 YARDS...OH AND THAT'S NOT FAR FROM GOING IN! It whispers past the post and out for a goal kick.

36th minute: Holden for Wrexham in the heart of Salford's half. He's gone for a pass upfield but it's intercepted by Bell. Bell hits up to the half-way line where Davis is waiting. Luke Davis can see Sainsbury making a run here and he's dinked it through to him... Sainsbury is in the clear with 30 yards seperating him and the goal. He's one on one with the goalkeeper, the keepers come for it, SAINSBURY DINKS IT OVER HIM... OH AND THAT'S JUST HIGH AND JUST WIDE. A real chance for Salford that!

46th minute: Dodds picks up the ball on the right for Salford. He finds Davis in a more central position who has Sainsbury ahead of him to his left, he puts it to Owens just behind him instead, Owens passes to Davis who has made a run to just outside the box, he's played it into Sainsbury who's in the box, SAINSBURY TO STRIKE IT....OH AND IT'S GONE STRAIGHT IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER!! It's WREXHAM 0-1 SALFORD CITY!

49th minute: Salford with free-kick half-way into Wrexham's half. Clackstone passes to his right where Owens is unmarked, Owens finds Dodds who is in some space on the right hand side of the box, Dodds plays it into the box AND SAINSBURY IS THERE AGAIN....IT'S IN! THEY'VE GOT ANOTHER ONE! WREXHAM 0-2 SALFORD CITY!

51st minute: Hope in the middle of Salford's half on the ball for Wrexham. He has to hope that they can get back into this game now. Hope out to the left to Jones, but Sinnott intercepts it and hits the ball...but oh dear it's cannoned off of Jones and it's gone straight into the box...it's fallen straight to Thorne...THORNE SURELY....OH AND HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN. It looked like he had the keeper beat but somehow Thorne doesn't capitalise on a defensive mistake there.

67th minute: Brown on the left hand byline, he's just making his way into the Wrexham half, Sainsbury ahead of him, Brown hits a long ball and finds him...Sainsbury running into the box from the left hand side and he's got Davis running into the middle, Davis is unmarked...Sainsbury finds him...AND DAVIS SLOTS IT HOME! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! IT'S WREXHAM 0-3 SALFORD CITY!

Link to post

81st minute: Hope still hoping for Wrexham. If he can pick out a pass he might put Thorne through on goal, he hits it up for Thorne to run onto it... it's Thorne against James...oh and James makes the save from close range! In truth it's a really poor shot as he's hit it right at the keeper there, if he'd aimed anywhere else it surely would have gone in.

23 minutes: Hayward on the edge of the Salford box, he finds Thorne in the middle just outside it, Turl to his right coming into the box, it's to Turl... Turl plays the 1-2 back to THORNE...OH AND HE'S HIT THE POST! IT CLATTERS THE POST AND GOES OUT FOR A GOAL KICK. A big chance for Wrexham early on!

Link to post

54th minute: Hope hoofs the ball forward for Wrexham. They're trying to get another one here. If they can get a 2nd soon you'd have to fancy them to go on and get a 3rd. Hope puts the ball in...it's that man Turl that will get to it.... OH AND HE'S HIT THE BAR! SO UNLUCKY FOR WREXHAM THERE!

Link to post

65th minute: Salford have got a corner. It's Clackstone to take it on the left hand side. Clackstone with a nice ball in...Davis heads it across goal...BULLOCK IS THERE! BULLOCK FOR SALFORD!!! IT'S SALFORD 1-1 WREXHAM (4-1) AND THAT SURELY PUTS THE GAME BEYOND WREXHAM! They've got 25 minutes to get 3 goals.

68th minute: There's a corner at the other end now. Turl to curl in it...West heads it away easily but hang on?! What's happened here?! The referee is pointing to the spot. He must've seen some pushing and shoving because he's given a penalty to Wrexham! Oh that's a big call! Adam Hart isn't happy about that one on the touchline...

Thorne with the penalty. If he scores this then Wrexham have 20 minutes to grab 2 more goals. It's Thorne...he sends the keeper the wrong way! It's Salford 1-2 (4-2) Wrexham. Game on!
