jameswing
Could someone clear up a question I have about the new 3D Match engine, and its link to the 2D match engine. Are the two engines directly linked to each other, or are they two different game engines. For example, on FIFA Manager 2008, which also has multiple ways to view a match, in the the text view it is extremely easy to score from headers, if you have the right players and cross alot, but however, If your watch your team in 3D, it is extremely hard to score from crosses, as the headers are tame and the crosses are poor, because of the 3D engine. I would hate this to be the same in FM 2009, and wanted to know if the same 'script'? would be used for both 2D and 3D. so the same things happen, but its just the view that changes. I hope my question is understandable.
bigdunk
They're the exact same match engine. The 2d and 3d views are just different ways of displaying the data generated by the match engine.
ZdlR
If what you say about FIFA Manager 2008 is true, that is truly astounding. There should be no reason to have different match engine implementations just because the view has changed. That's MVC 101!
James Middleton
Just to add one more to that, I believe the 2D, 3D and text only are all exactly the same data displayed differently
jameswing
At least there shouldn't be any tactics problems in switching view
daemonic
Just to add one more to that, I believe the 2D, 3D and text only are all exactly the same data displayed differently Agreed. My understanding is that the text commentary, 2d & now the 3d engine are all just an interpretation of the actual match engines calculations.
SI Staff Nick Habershon Posted October 10, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted October 10, 2008 Yes - commentary/2d/3d are all the same match engine.
SmurfDude
Yes - commentary/2d/3d are all the same match engine. Just as it should be. Means we won't get some crappy unrealistic 3D view like in other football management games in the past
glamdring
The amount of extra programming you would need to have 3 different match engines would be ridiculous given how complicated the match engine must be!
bobirinis66
i dont know if this is the right forum to ask,but is it possible the 3D match engine to run under wine( Ubuntu Linux).Anybody knows?with fm 08 i had no problems
Neji
Just as it should be. Means we won't get some crappy unrealistic 3D view like in other football management games in the past I wouldn't promise that just yet
peter-evo
This means the football played will be realistic, SI know what they're doing. They won't put it in if it isn't good enough!
solstar
A nice touch but why does anyone wanna sit at a computer screen and watch an entire "live" (computer game) match?? Football is going through a financial crisis, people should be going to support their teams!
Fernando Nano
Just as it should be. Means we won't get some crappy unrealistic 3D view like in other football management games in the past let's hope so.
Nomis07
They won't put it in if it isn't good enough! Confidence, team talks and near post flick ons would beg to differ.
peter-evo
Confidence, team talks and near post flick ons would beg to differ. Yes but none of those are quite as big as a 3D engine. Maybe not to me or you, but 3D may be what attracts many customers to Football Manager and SI will not want to dissapoint
solstar
What makes all products lose emphasis is when they think "customers" and not die hard nutters
glamdring
A nice touch but why does anyone wanna sit at a computer screen and watch an entire "live" (computer game) match?? Football is going through a financial crisis, people should be going to support their teams! It will serve big football clubs right if they get into a financial mess, small ones are always on the verge of financial meltdown, but since the current economic climate affects individuals far more than fat football clubs there is nothing wrong with people saving their money - FM is a lot cheaper than watching real football live week in week out
rekluse
I think most of the die hard FM players are excited about the 3d engine, I know I am. I know I couldn't wait for FM08 to come out last year either but I didn't have as many reasons as to why as I do this year.
glamdring
I'm not excited by the 3d engine. I may well be when it comes, but not before, especially not since the match engine in FM08 is tee'ing me off so much I don't care if it is in 1d, 2d, 3d or 27d so long as the actual football works properly. solstar
Will this mean ppl will start ridding themselves of their dvd players??
glamdring
I watch DVDs at the same time as playing FM...a 3d match engine won't change that!
Nomis07
I couldn't live without my DVD player, that would mean I had to watch more television
peter-evo
I sold mine months ago. But I really can't wait for 3D
