The_Gato_In_Goal
2031 - Season ReviewLeague Table | Schedule Key PlayersHaidhar Ahmed (08a) - Ahmed Ali (08b) - Adam Nasheed (06c) How was the season? Couldn't go perfect in the league . In the ACL we did pretty well however. Still I feel like we're still a bit behind the elite Asian clubs in terms of quality, they have some real class players. Suwon couldn't make it 7 ACL titles in a row as Pohang went on to beat them in the semi-finals and eventually won the title themselves. Not an amazing intake, but finances are stable enough for repeated training facilities increases (we're close to being maxed out). Form what I've seen in others' saves, youth recruitment takes a hell of a long time to be able to be increased, so this save is stagnating unless I can pull another Ahmed Ibrahim (09a) and keep him at the club this time. Ahmed Ibrahim (09a) watch Playing regularly for Freiburg now, our best ever player seems to have reached his immense potential which is great news for the national team. He's still rather young too! Mascarpone
Hm I see, do you think you'll export some of them (players of your club)? Since I guess some of your best players would end up being at least in decent European teams
The_Gato_In_Goal
I don't think so. All of my players won't resign new deals because of higher ambitions, spend a week without a club and no interest, and then rejoin our team. I think it's something with the database that makes Maldivian players not very sought after. Also, some of the Asian teams we play have some players that could be elite in Europe, so we need all the quality we can keep. Plus our facilities are rival that of top clubs and are nearly maxed out, so it makes much more sense keeping players domestic.

The_Gato_In_Goal
Quick update: Right now I'm trying to get into college/university and playing soccer/football every day. So that leaves me about 30 minutes of free time every day for the next 2 months. I'm getting through a season very slowly even with playing it every couple of days. Hopefully, around the release of FM 17 I'll start to have more time and pick up this save again. I just wanted to let you guys know I'm still trying to play this, but its going slowly
The_Gato_In_Goal
Since I haven't really played for a while I've managed to lose all the screenshots for the rest of that season. I'll tell you we lot in the semis of the ACL and won the league as normal. Also, nobody got tagged for the youth intake. On to the next year, we made it through the groups and the second round in the ACL.

The_Gato_In_Goal
Youth Intake - 2032 A very nice intake, with 3 very nice players (2 CBs which is the position I needed most) and all 3 have great personalities. The_Gato_In_Goal
The luck is real. After getting destroyed first leg, but managing to score off 5 crosses, I did some tactical thinking. We played a 3-4-1-2 in the first leg, so to give us some extra defense, I changed to a 3-1-4-2 with a DM and two wingers on either side. We were able to be solid enough defensively and the two wingers linked up twice and we scored from ML to AML to AMR twice. Now we have Suwon in the final so we're screwed. To give you a scope of how good they are, they've won the club world cup twice in the last 4 years beating Man City and Chelsea
The_Gato_In_Goal
Wow, somehow we went down 5-0 away and pulled it back to 5-4 by full time. Ad you can see, we got completely dominated, but I have a small sliver of hope that the return leg can see us steal a 1-0 win and win on away goals. Spoiler Ahhh, agonizingly close! We ere still a class apart though, so losing was always expected. I think it will be a fair few years until we can compete with Suwon for the title. The_Gato_In_Goal
I haven't really found any of my saves on fm17 this year very interesting and I was looking back into this thread and couldn't pass up the chance to manage my Maldivians again. The_Gato_In_Goal
So time for us to take a look at the current squad and remember what we were dealing with. I definitely play the game with a bit more detail in terms of developing youth now than I did then, so it'll be interesting to see what mistakes I made. Goalkeepers Good in the air, quick, good shot stopping abilities. He looks like a very good starting GK at only 23 years of age! Seems like a good little backup with lots of time to develop. The_Gato_In_Goal
Defenders Looks a pretty good technical player, but his physicals stand out to me in a bad way. He's short and slow, not a very good combination for any position. Another short and relatively slow defender. He's 16 and has a good personality, so he has some potential to overcome his weaknesses. Okay, this is starting to become a joke now. This man is a central defender who's shorter than Messi, Iniesta, Alexis Sanchez, Mertens... Got good technicals at least. I guess this is the trade off, I can have a slightly taller defender in exchange for worse stats. He actually looks decent tbf. Now this is a interesting one. Not much in the way of your typical defensive attributes, but he's very well rounded and seems to be a set piece specialist. Very quick as well. I think I see him playing more as a midfielder, but at 16 with a Resolute personality, I couldn't ask for much more. Not very good anymore, but he was a key player during his time. 31 now and I'll try to keep him around until retirement because I can. Analysis Some good prospects, but as you can see, a general lack of height plagues our defense. But here's the real shock, that was all of our defenders, which means we have no players capable of playing on the right and Ismail (03a) is the only one who can partially play on the left and he's got 11/14 technical stats being 1. It seems a 3ATB formation is the only way to go atm, that might be a bit interesting.
The_Gato_In_Goal
Midfielders Wow, for 20 years old, this guy looks pretty good. A very nice playmaker who will probably play in the AMC or MC spot depending on my tactics I decide on. I remember this guy! First ever youth player, 38 caps for the national side, and 185 appearances for us (a lot considering we have 14 game seasons). Decent looking winger, but it seems like we have a lot of right sided ones so he might not play much. A very well rounded midfielder with bags of potential at only 18 years old. Interested to see what he can offer. Even though I prefer pace on my wingers, the more I look at him the more I like him. Well rounded and tall for a winger, but he's an interesting prospect as well. Looks like I kept him around for his personality, but can be a decent rotation option in the league. This one on the other hand, I'm not sure what to do with (F. Pro is good though). This guy brings back the memories! Never any good stats, but he always got unworldly average ratings without getting goals or assists. 105 games played with only 5 goals and 10 assists, but he averaged a 7.60 rating and got 8 PoTMs. Club captain and absolute legend! 7.63 avg rating with 11 goals and a whopping 50 assists in 108 appearances for us. He's been Nasheed (06c)'s partner in crime on the other wing. 8.05 avg rating with 12 goals and 75 assists in 111 games. Just insane numbers. I remember now that I just keep all the players in the squad because they'll never find other clubs as free agents. This guy was the winger for 89 matches before Nasheed (06c) came along. Another great player, he can play either DM or MC for us. But 17 tackling, 18 aggression, and 16 stamina makes him the perfect BWM. And he's only 20 years old. Analysis We'll it seems wingers have worked for us in the past and we have some very good ones for this level. We also have a great playmaker, and great defensive midfielder, and a good all around midfielder. Certainly much more balanced than our defense, so our midfield will fit in with any tactic we choose. The_Gato_In_Goal
Strikers A few good stats, but a lot of glaring weaknesses. He's only 16 though, so has time to fill his gaps and turn into a good player. Again, a few good stats and a lot of weaknesses. Being 21, he looks to be near fully developed which is a bit underwhelming. What a player! Very well rounded with amazing mentals. 108 goals and 41 assists in 121 appearances with a 7.93 avg rating. A quick, decent looking striker who can be a good option off the bench. Remember this guy as being a reliable goal scorer for us. And of course I had to include a picture of the best Maldivian player ever. Unfortunately not with us anymore, but he looks insane and I'm glad to see him having success in Europe. If I ever want to have any success with the national team, it's probably going to have to be before he retires because he was by far the best player produced out of the Maldives in the last 15 years. Analysis A few decent strikers with only a couple standouts means that a 2 striker system would probably work best for us. Overall, we would probably play something like a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-1-4-2 with either a DM and 2 MCs or an AMC and 2 MCs. Now it's time to start cooking up that tactic. The_Gato_In_Goal
Was doing some tactical experiments during the first few rounds, but eventually settled on a 3-4-1-2 for the group stages. I've come to accept the fact that my 3 defenders will let in a fair few goals with their average height of 5'8'' and we'll hope to outscore the opposition. 2 good wins over the Emirati side, but it seems our fate will be determined in how we fair against Al-Sadd. And our international break was very successful with 2 expected, but good wins nevertheless. With 3 games to go, we're guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but if we finish 3rd, we'll have to play a playoff against the 3rd place team in the other group. If we win that game, we'd then have to play another playoff against the 4th place CONCACAF finisher. On the other hand, a 1st or 2nd place finish will see us automatically qualify for the Maldives' 1st WC. In the last 3 games we play both Australia (who beat us 4-0) and Japan (who we drew 2-2 at home), so qualification is completely in our hands. The_Gato_In_Goal
We started off with a couple of friendlies to get everyone fit for the next ACL match. Obviously it didn't work as we failed to see out a 2-0 lead after 22 minutes and ended up with only a single point at home in a must win match really. We then thrashed BG Sports in the Charity Shield and lost to Al-Ahli which was expected, but disappointing since we were the better team on the day. However, Al-Sadd managed to lose to Al-Shabab which gave us hope going into the last matchday of the ACL groups. A win or draw would see us through and a loss would send us home. Luckily, we put in a much improved performance in the away match to Al-Sadd and convincingly won 5-0.

The_Gato_In_Goal
In the first leg of the second round, we went 2-0 up early and again couldn't hold onto the lead. We got outplayed that game and I was scared that we would be knocked out in the away leg. Before the match however, I switched our W(S) to WM(D) and our CM(D) to DLP(D). That (or some other factor) changed everything as we crushed the Emirati side 6-1 in the second leg. We now face Al-Ahli in the quarter-finals, so it would take a miracle to beat them. Domestically, we breeze as usual. New Radiant usually make the league closer though, so it's interesting to see them struggling so much.
The_Gato_In_Goal
No league games in these 3 months, but a lot went on! We customarily lost in the FA Cup final as all of our player are on international duty and we play with mostly grayed out players. We're into the President's Cup Final as well. In the ACL we faced Al Ahli who beat us 4-2 and 4-3 in the groups, but that was before our tactical adjustments. Don't get me wrong, I thought we'd still lose this tie because 2 of our most important players, Nihal Mohamed (12a) and Assad Ali (14a), were out injured for both legs. We managed to score late a pull a 1-1 draw out of the bag away and then we managed to hold strong at home and win 1-0 much to my chagrin. In the semis we now face Lekhwiya from Qatar, but I don't see them being better than Al-Ahli. More importantly, we finished up our WCQ group. We beat Qatar as expected, and then Ahmed Ibrahim (09a) managed to bag himself 3 goals as we narrowly beat Japan to secure our place in the World Cup in 2034! Interesting to note that Japan had a Brazilian/Japanese player who regened in Brazil and played there his entire career. Never seen a dual nationality like that before without a player playing enough to get foreign citizenship. Also, we even managed to only lose to Australia 4-3 despite missing our star striker for the match.

The_Gato_In_Goal
EDIT: Looking at this, it seems I tagged last years players as (17...) and this years as (16...) So pretend these say (17a) and (17b) I'm so happy right now! He doesn't look too great technically, but you can't argue with a 6'5'' defender when your next tallest is 5'10". We should be able to tutor him a bit and hopefully he can improve. Decent enough, I like his pace and double-digit crossing. Probably gets some experience in league matches for now. Either Maldivian clubs are allowed to play or since the league is a custom database, maybe that rule wasn't included. As for the Thai Premier League All-Stars, I have no clue. Wikipedia says they're an exhibition match team, but fm says they qualified for either the ACC or the ACL every year on the save. A bit odd.
Sankalan
Asia is as dynamic as europe, only the structure is different: lesser countries have only ACC spots while better ones have only ACL spots, unlike Europe, where all countries have spots for both. Apart from that it is the same, perform good continentally, and you can rise up the table, converting ACC spots to ACL spots
