Chelsea win the double again What a great season winning the Premiership and The Champions League in my first full season in charge at Chelsea only losing to Manchester United, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Manchester City in the league all season. The only real disappointment was losing the Carling cup final again for the third time in four years. I’m sure next season will be even harder as everyone wants to get one over the champions as Andy found out this season/ Premiership place: 1st League Cup: Runners up FA Cup: Qtr Final Champions League: Winners highest fee spend: Antonio Cassano 31 million highest fee received: Alessio Ammendolea deal worth 58 million Manager of the month: 4 Number of players brought: 12 Number of players sold: 11 Total value of players brought: 92 million Total value of players sold: 45.5 million King II overall games Games played: 191 Games won: 127 Games lost: 36 Games drawn: 28 Goals scored: 416 Goals conceded: 176 Player Of The Season: D’Alessandro We know we're supposed to say Nilmar, John Terry or De Rossi, but without D’Alessandro would any of those players have been able to do their jobs quite so effectively? Master of the traditional attacking midfield role, D’Alessandro blocks, tackles, protects and scores some wonder goals as well and to think Mr. Murphy said he was a waste of money. Most Improved Player: Berbatov Being publicly lambasted by his former boss Rick Boult for his lack of form in front of goal Berbatov has proved again what a great player he is under the right management Nilmar and Cassano untouchable on the pitch, he became a key player in the title push - adding much-needed goals as well as hard work to his armory. Manager's Report: Danny King Anonymous, unassuming, self-effacing - these things rarely combine to make a great manager. So it's little wonder that Danny King is none of the above. Wasn’t really Paul’s fault that he couldn’t get into the team this year ahead of Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard. Only played a hand full of gamesMiss Helder Postiga from Porto for free. Postiga has done a lot better in his second spell in the premiership scoring 16 goals along the way. Never first choice up front but always did a job when he was called upon. Hit Nilmar from Lyon for free. This was an awesome season for Nilmar ending as Chelsea top scorer. This guy can hit goals from all over the park and on his day there’s no one better up front. Major Hit Alessio Ammendolea from Birmingham for 28 million. Again Alessio didn’t get a chance to show me what he could do because in the January transfer window an offer from Manchester United which was too good to turn down was faxed over from Old Trafford. . Miss Daniele De Rossi from Roma for 20 million. This guy oozed class in the middle of the park with great passing and an eye for goal even at a long distance. Found his chances limited once Carretto was signed in January. Hit Geoginio Boateng from Middlesbrough for 9 million. Geoginio didn’t really get the chance to play much this season as he was signed for the future. He is still only a young player. When he did play he looked sharp and had the skills to impress the Chelsea fans Jury still out Vincent Kompany from Tottenham for 12 million. Kompany hasn’t lived up to his high transfer fee. played some awful football in his short spell at Stamford Bridge. Always seems to be giving the ball away to the other team. Miss Anthony Vanden Borre from Tottenham for 7 million. Again didn’t get much chance to play this season as I see him more in the long term future of this club. He played well at right back once Bonera was sold to Juv and when Gallas was injured for a mouth. Jury still out Luca Carretto from WBA for 5 million. Luca is an awesome player who scored some important goal in the season mainly against Everton and Fulham. I’m more than happy with this signing Major Hit Christan Pander from Birmingham for 9 million. Always played well when we needed to give Wayne Bridge a rest. Looks like the left back spot in the team will be his in a couple of season’s time. Hit Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United for part/ex. What a return to form from Berbatov scoring 18 goals for Chelsea. Looks like the player he once was at Birmingham before he moved to Manchester United. Hit Sanli Tuncay from Manchester United for part/ex. Was worth the transfer just for his last game in which he scored 2 goals in The Champions League final. After 7 games, its 7 wins for the reds and with some of the chasing pack faultering, they have built up an already healthy lead over there closed rivals. After racing into an early lead, Pompey manager Andy Nielsen had no answers for the free flowing United football which could have ended up 7 or 8 had it not been for some estute goalkeeping. A late penalty miss for Mokoena the only nagative from the day but another 3 points on the road for Man U against another 'Title Challenger'. English Premier League Manchester United [2]: Fabricio, Delgado Tottenham Hotspur [0]: Spurs have been somewhat of a bogey team with them beating United both in the league and in the F.A Cup Final but Boult's men sent Pagi's team crying back down to London. Fabricio finished well after a practised move from a set play and with Delgado scoring a curling shot 10 minutes from time, there was no way back for the men in white. UEFA Champions League Group Stage Dinamo Bucharest [1]: Baltoi Manchester United [4]: Cerci (2), Delgado, Eto'o Boult's first game in Europe and what a way to make a name for yourself. With a tough game coming up on Saturday he looked to rest several key players which could have proved costly, but Cerci and co didn't let him down with a marvellous play making the manager realise what a talented bunch of players he has at his disposal. English Premier League Aston Villa [1]: van Nistelrooy Manchester United [4]: Ronaldinho, Eto'o (2), Delgado Sam has turned Villa around since joining 2 seasons ago from being a midtable pushover to strong title contender. Finishing 3rd last season was always going to be hard to follow but after 30 mintes, his team were much the better. After going 1-0 down, Boult changed his tactics to great effect with Eto'o netting either side of half time to give United the lead. Bouchard is a talented manager and tried to get back into the game introducing Rossi but 2 more well taken chances made it 7 wins from 7 for the red side of Manchester. Retaining the Premier League is obviously a key thing, but for many teams, consolidating their side's place in Europe is a top priority. Third place in the best league in the world was extremly good for Aston Villa last season, but surely with more faces going out than in, and other teams strengthening their sides, things couldn't be the same this term...could they? The beloved Suazo was STOLEN from Villa Park by Niall Murphy at Everton whilst Mo Ilyas tried to steal anybody he could get his hands on. Cisse turned his back on a marvelous bid £9m bid from Fulham whilst Mike Zonnoveld had to be held back from hitting Ilyas after he valued him at only £6m. For a man with 30 million in his pocket he's still tighter than a camels arse in a sandstorm. Aaron Lennon was signed from Leeds for 600k, Christian Baumann was brought in on loan from Manchester United for the season, whilst Real Madrid let go defender Juan and forward Rossi for a combined value of just under £10m. A very tough start to the Premiership season saw Bouchard's men take on the 5 teams that should be topping the league in the first 7 games :S. Trips to Portsmough and Chelsea and the combination of having to host Everton, Tottenham and Man United oh so close to the start of the season could've killed morale. With the start of the season usually key for Villa, things weren't looking bright, but with the distraction of Europe...who cares! Champions League Qualifying Round 3 - First Leg GAK [0]: Aston Villa [5]: Nolan, Cisse(3), v. Nistelrooy A first half hat-trick for Cisse set Villa on their way through to the Group stages after GAK turned out to be CACK and conceded five away goals. Aaron Lennon got his first Champions League appearanceand duly assisted two of the 5 goals, a main highlight was the through ball for van Nistelrooy to finish late on. Premier League - Game 1 Portsmouth [4]: Pazzini(3), Blondel Aston Villa [4]: Nolan, v. Nistelrooy(2), Baker (pen) Portsmouth scored with 4 of the 5 shots they had on the day. Pazzini scored three sublime goals whilst the rest of the side couldn't handle the Villa MAAAAASSSIVE. It took a late late late late LATE goal from Blondel in the 106th minute to bag a point for Andy Nilsen. Cisse was brutally taken down on 30 minutes and had to be taken off on a stretcher....disgraceful tactics by the self proclaimed 'goat'. Premier League - Game 2 Aston Villa [2]: Nolan(2) Tottenham Hotspur [3]: Defoe, Rochemback, Calaio Defoe took 2 minutes to get his name on the scoresheet after a terrible freekick backfired up the field for Jermain, giving him enough time to have a cup of tea and a fag before finishing off from an acute angle...cheeky bugger. Jefferson in goal was woeful througout and this could well be his last fixture for the club. Spells of pressure from the home side gave oppertunity for Villa to strike back, and that they did through Kevin Nolan on 20 minutes. A stunning strike from a man who's keeping super Frank Lampard out the side after his superb start to the season. Spurs sat on the ball at times, playing superb through their counter attacks, but bar that...were outplayed for vast majority's of the match. Credit to David Pagi for his arrangement of the side, and for taking 3 points at Villa Park, not many have done that in recent years. Premier League - Game 3 Aston Villa [0]: West Ham [0]: A change around at the back proved critical as the first clean sheet of the season turned up against a side that were used to keeping them theirselves. After finishing 2nd last term in The Championship, West Ham were predicted to go back down, however they are standing their own in the EPL, and faught for a point deservedly. Champions League Qualifying Round 3 -Second Leg Aston Villa [4]: Lampard(2), Lennon, Vorisek GAK [0]: CACK rolled out against a different looking Aston Villa, with Frank Lampard and Vorisek getting their first starts of the season. A top quality performance at home should install confidence as well as faith in the team for the fixtures ahead. Everton next :S. Premier League - Game 4 Aston Villa [2]: Cisse, de Long (og) Everton [1]: Petrov Always a hard game against Everton, and with the form book very much in the window things were pretty much predicted. Murphy doesn't like visiting Villa Park, and after the own goal late on many can see why. A slightly fortunate set up for Petrov's goal may have swayed the pundits on the last goal, but still...it was unfortunate. Anyway, the first three points of Villa's season are in the bag but with United and Chelski to play, and a tricky away tie against Lyon in the group stages, points will no doubt be scarse. Premier League - Game 5 Wolves [1]: Cole(17) Aston Villa [4]: Cisse(2), v. Nistelrooy, Korzym Attacking Wolves managed to score first in a game which Villa must've felt they were going to lose. A tactical change and 4 goals were scored! Beltin'! A penalty save by Sorensen save Villa the lift that they so desperatly needed, and they kicked on in the second half - top bananna. Champions League Group A - Game 1 Lyon [0]: Aston Villa [2]: v. Nistelrooy, Cisse A solid two nill victory away to a rather weak Lyon. A clean sheet away from home and 3 points in the bag , can ask of no more. Premier League - Game 6 Aston Villa [1]: v.Nistelrooy Man United [4]: Eto(2), Ronaldinho, Delgado Expecting nothing out of this game Aston Villa went into it hoping to take anything out of it. A strong start from the home side gave some hope and after Ruud bagged his 3rd in 3 games things were looking up. In a rather scary turn of events, the game panned out very much like the Wolves fixture. United were deadly from the off of the second half showing talent that has to surely be granted the Premier League. Current Champions Chelsea lost their first of the season against Wolves, giving United a chance to stretch out. Rick Boult has turned this team into world beaters...EPL hold on to your pants :S Premier League - Game 7 Chelsea [1]: Drogba Aston Villa [3]: Nolan(2), v.Nistelrooy After the cancelled game two weeks prior, Aston Villa and Chelsea could finally meet in a game very much anticipated by all. This fixture ends the awful set of games Villa have had to play early on in the season, and having really been outplayed at times, things better improve for Villa. They did, thank god, just at the right time as they led Chelski by three half way through the second half. Kevin Nolan bagged his 5th and then his 6th goal of the season proving too much to handle for Danny King's awesome defence. Juan was injured early on in the game whilst with the last kick, Sorensen's leg gave way surely doing a lot of damage :S. 11 points from a possible 21 so far for Aston Villa, but with the toughest fixtures out the way until after Christmas, things are going to get better surely over the coming weeks. He has just joined this season after a 5 million pound move from Birmingham City and will be first choice this year. Value £ 2.6 million Age: 32 Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard GK Kevin had a good season in goal last season but he is at fault for the odd goal or two. Still only a young keeper and will make good back up to Lobont this season. Value £3.7 million Age: 27 Paul Dobson GK Dodson is third choice keeper who has only played a couple of games for Chelsea over the last couple of seasons. Value £1.9 million Age: 20 Defenders… John Terry DC What can you say about John Terry? He is club captain who has played for Chelsea all his life and always gives you a 100% out on the pitch. Terry has won the lot for Chelsea and I was glad to see he was still at the club when I arrived. Value £13 million Age:29 William Gallas D RC Gallas is another rock at the back that can play either in the right back out centre back position for Chelsea. He may be getting on a bit and losing his pace but he still has the class to read the game well. Value £2.4 million Age:33 Christian Pander D/DM L Pander is another new signing from Birmingham City who will provide competitions for Bridge in the left back spot. Also plays for Germany Value £3.2 million Age:27 Wayne Bridge D/DM L Wayne is a class player who loves to run forward and whip the ball into the area. Again getting on in age but can still cut it for a couple more seasons. Value £7.25 million Age:30 Ricardo Carvalho D C Ricardo will again be used as a backup player for the back line. When he does play he always gives it’s his all for his team. Value £5 million Age:32 Anthony Vanden Borre SW/D/DM RC Anthony is a utility player who can play in either defence or midfield. He will prove a useful addition to the squad. Value £3.4 million Age:22 Alessandro Nesta DC Nesta is maybe one for the finest ever defenders to ever play football. This guy has it all and if it wasn’t for his age would play ever game for Chelsea when he was fit. Alessandro my be getting on in years but like all the greats he has kept himself in shape and looks like he could go on forever. Value £500k Age:34 Rocco Barbini DC Rocco is one of Chelsea only young defenders who look like he could turn into a good player. Italian U21 player who one day could find himself a first choice player Value £2.1 million Age:22 Dave Simpson SW/D RLC Dave isn’t a very good player but due to the amount of injuries we received last season he found himself promoted from the youth team to the 1st team and it all honestly didn’t play to bad. Value £220k Age:19 Tom Huddlestone D/M C Again another old Birmingham city player who can play either in defence or midfield. Tom hasn’t improved in the way I had hoped when I first signed him for Brum but like many players under action Jackson he seems to have gone backwards in his development. I’m hoping he will one day take over from Gallas in the Chelsea team. Value £3.6 million Age:23 Daniele Bonera D RC Saving the best defender until last as I realized my mistake last season selling him to Juventus. With the chance to bring Bonera back from Italy I couldn’t say no even with it meaning the end of De Rossi in a Chelsea shirt. This lads is class, class, class Value 7.5 million Age:29 Midfielders… Tomas Rosicky AM C Tomas had an unlucky season being injured for 5 months but he finished the season strong with some fine performances. He is one of only a handful of players in the team that I would never sell. Value £16.5 million Age:29 Sanli Tuncay AM/F C Tuncay played the game of his life against Inter Milan in the Champions League final scoring 2 goals. Will only be playing a back up role for the midfield players and if a good offer came in for him he would be sold. Value £33 million Age:28 Andes D’Alessandro AM C D’Alessandro is the star man in my team and to think some managers said he was a waste of money after he signed for Chelsea for 30 million pounds from my pervious club Birmingham City. He was one of the reasons why I took the Chelsea Job after I saw how much my team missed his skill and goal scoring touch. Value £21 million Age:29 Michael Carrick AM C Carrick is a good squad player for my team but he is starting to feel he should be starting more game for Chelsea so I don’t know how much longer he will be playing for my team. Value £4 million Age:29 Cani AM C Cani is a great goal scoring midfield player who I wouldn’t be interested in selling. He scored 18 goals last season from an attacking midfield position. Value £16 million Age:29 Michael Ballack AM C Ballack my be getting on a bit but he still has the class to cut it in the premiership, I will have to use him a lot less this year to save him from burning out. Value £2.5 million Age:33 Georginio Boateng AM/F C Boateng is a young Dutch international player who has also played for Middlesbrough and Tottenham already in his short career. He will be playing more game this season as he looks like he could turn into a fine player Value £6.25 million Age:20 Luca Carretto DM C Luca has an eye for goal as well as keeping the defence and midfield together. He scored some awesome goals for us last season and I’m happy I finally got him from WBA once Chris Morris resigned. Value £3.9 million Age:26 Michael Essien AM RC Michael has been outstanding for Lyon over the last few season and when his contact was running out Chelsea was more that happy to give the player a chance to prove himself in the Premiership. He is still coming into his prime in his football career. Value £8.75 million Age:27 Mohamed Kallon AM/F LC Again Mohamed had played some good stuff in the French League and wanted to prove himself in the Premiership. Scored a good goal against us last season for Monaco in the Champions League and he will add some class to the midfield area. Value £7.5 million Age:30 Giuseppe Guerra AM/F C Chelsea has to start looking for the future and with Guerra they have found a man that can play for the team in the new era. Got this lad from Sevilla on a free transfer and will try and loan him out for a couple of season until he is ready for the biggest stage of his young career playing for Chelsea. Value £9.5 million Age: 19 Forwards… Nilmar F C Nilmar had a great season for Chelsea and is looking to carry that form into this season. He will form an all Brazil attacking front line this season with Robinho. Value £32.5 million Age:26 Dimitar Berbatov S C Berbatov will mainly be used as third choice striker this season will the first 2 being Nilmar and Robinho but what an option to come of the bench. Value £15.75 million Age:29 Didier Drogba S C Drogba was also unlucky last season due to a broken league that kept him out for 7 months of the season. When I was Birmingham boss he always scored against me so I will be keeping him at Chelsea and I know when he gets his chance he will not let me down when it matters. Value £3.9 million Age:32 Antonio Cassano F LC As soon as a good offer for Cassano comes in he will be on his way out the door of Stamford Bridge. Played well last season at the start but after a 1 month injury he never found the same form. Value £28.5 million Age:28 Robinho F LC What a result getting Robinho for 10 million from Betis due to them going bankrupt. He and Nilmar could form the most lethal partnership the premiership has seen for a long time. Value £37.5 million Age:26 Mido F LC Mido will be no more than a back up to the first team. He has proven with Portsmouth that he can score goals in the premiership but he will find it hard going to make this Chelsea team. Will only be playing a back up role for the midfield players and if a good offer came in for him he would be sold. Value £33 million Age:28 Andes D’Alessandro AM C D’Alessandro is the star man in my team and to think some managers said he was a waste of money after he signed for Chelsea for 30 million pounds from my pervious club Birmingham City. He was one of the reasons why I took the Chelsea Job after I saw how much my team missed his skill and goal scoring touch. Value £21 million Age:29 Michael Carrick AM C Carrick is a good squad player for my team but he is starting to feel he should be starting more game for Chelsea so I don’t know how much longer he will be playing for my team. Value £2.5 million Age:33 Georginio Boateng AM/F C Boateng is a young Dutch international player who has also played for Middlesbrough and Tottenham already in his short career. He will be playing more game this season as he looks like he could turn into a fine player Value £6.25 million Age:20 Luca Carretto DM C Luca has an eye for goal as well as keeping the defence and midfield together. He scored some awesome goals for us last season and I’m happy I finally got him from WBA once Chris Morris resigned. Value £3.9 million Age:26 Michael Essien AM RC Michael has been outstanding for Lyon over the last few season and when his contact was running out Chelsea was more that happy to give the player a chance to prove himself in the Premiership. He is still coming into his prime in his football career. Got this lad from Sevilla on a free transfer and will try and loan him out for a couple of season until he is ready for the biggest stage of his young career playing for Chelsea. He will form an all Brazil attacking front line this season with Robinho. Value £15.75 million Age:29 Didier Drogba S C Drogba was also unlucky last season due to a broken league that kept him out for 7 months of the season. When I was Birmingham boss he always scored against me so I will be keeping him at Chelsea and I know when he gets his chance he will not let me down when it matters. Value £3.9 million Age:32 Antonio Cassano F LC As soon as a good offer for Cassano comes in he will be on his way out the door of Stamford Bridge. Played well last season at the start but after a 1 month injury he never found the same form. Value £28.5 million Age:28 Robinho F LC What a result getting Robinho for 10 million from Betis due to them going bankrupt. He and Nilmar could form the most lethal partnership the premiership has seen for a long time. Value £37.5 million Age:26 Mido F LC Mido will be no more than a back up to the first team. He has proven with Portsmouth that he can score goals in the premiership but he will find it hard going to make this Chelsea team. David Pagi Posted June 23, 2005 Share Posted June 23, 2005 I like two cups at a time baby yeah (3 if u include the Super Cup ) Spurs Cup Final Clashes Uefa Cup Final Spurs were back on the hunt for European glory as they progressed into the Uefa Cup Final. This fixture was a clash between two evenly equiped sides as their 6th and 7th placing indicated, me and Brum boss Ben had a nice rivalry brewing during the course of the season, which really light up this final. Gambino made headway down left berth as LM replacement for Downing and spotted Calaio free in the box Calaio one touch and shot with the military precision he's been accustomed to for the solitary goal of the match to claim the Uefa Cup. Brum were outplayed as far as meaningful chances created was concerned, but did have some chances in the end failing to convert any of their decent opportunities. FA Cup Final This fixture was a real grudge match as Rick had been p***ing me off with his undermining of my success claiming I won with his team. Well Rick yeah you and Sam bought some decent players to the Spurs squad and done ok on the back of that, (ok being the important word there) but show me your medals!!! u %$$£ %$$££ sorry bout that . Going by your reckoning Benitez owes his Champions League success all to Houiller as he bought ALL the players that won Liverpool the Cup (except Xavi Alonso of course) and anyone with half a brain knows Houiller is a s&^% manager Benitez a good manager. They won because of Benitez's tatical noun etc, rather then the players Benitez inherited. So leave it out will ya with this MY Spurs Team bo*****s. Anywaysssssss onto the match I went into this historic game as overwhelming underdogs given the gulf in league positions and wealth of talent at Rick's disposal. Although I was confident given our second half of the season form. Man Utd opened the scoring early doors as playmaker Van Der Vaart found some space on the rim of the Spurs box and had enough time to collect an Eto'o right wing pass, look up and dink a delightful chipped through ball into the path of Italian poacher Cerci to convert from close range 1-0. Torres equalised soon after following a revised throw in routine as Calaio headed on Guarin's throw into the path of Torres, who show great composure in directing his shot bottom right from around 10 yards. The fu*&ing beautiful FA Cup Winner was very sexy as Gokdeniz made progress down the right flank, somehow spotted Gambino in a little space on the opposite wing raked a long pass across field for Gambino to thrash a volley into the top right hand corner, a goal fit to grace the lengendary trophy. Super Cup Final In all honesty I did not hold any hope against Chelsea as I witnessed their demolishion job on the rest of the Premiership last season and feared the worst. My fears perceived to be correct when Tuncay thundered a free header into the top corner on (17 mins) Essien confirmed my pre-match nervousness when he dillyed and dallyed along the right flank looking to be going nowhere, then suddenly rocketed a shot past Akineev's near post. (43mins) Was it savable? who knows? who cares? 2-0 game over. But nooooooo at this point I decided tactical alterations were necessary and decided to draw a few diagrams on a piece of paper for Guarin to have a look at (as I thought he needed to cos he had been ****) and made a few tweaks in player instructions not telling what though . Calaio pulled one back on (66mins) with a trademark header after Gambino's left wing cross. Defoe equalised on (74mins) taking full advantage of a Kranjcar through ball, a minute later Tuncay was handed the freedom of the Spur's box to smash home an Essien cross. 3-2 Chelsea. Super Sub Janssen grabbed a (90min) equaliser utilising his electric pace to race onto Gambino's through ball smashing the ball straight down th middle 3-3. BelfastNiall Posted June 24, 2005 Author Share Posted June 24, 2005 Latest News Aston Villa 2 - 1 Everton Aston Villa are now one of England's leading Premiership outfits which I have to admit has surprised me given that I thought Sam Bouchard was very much yesterday's man when he was sacked by Spurs, then Villa and ended up languishing in 13th two seasons back. However, last season Sam introduced a new tactic (a 4-4-2 diamond - a formation I normally relish playing to be honest) and being a very suspicious host I have to admit that I questioned its legitimacy as entirely the own work of young Sam as all of a sudden Villa were playing football with a verve not associated with Bouchard sides for some seasons. However, Sam assures me it is all his own work and on that basis we get on with the game and credit then is due for a turnaround that is quite remarkable and totally unforeseen by the Premier League bosses. Tale of the Tape: Villa have a couple of very dangerous players in their side. These are Rubirosa (who won the English Player of the Year last season); Simon Davies or Bierofka on the right flank; Kevin Nolan in the tip of the diamond as his long range efforts are often lethal; Djbril Cisse who has caused me a lot of trouble in the last two visits to Villa Park and the old but still potent wonker, Van Nistelrooy, up front. Sam likes to get the ball to his wingers, in particular Rubirosa and swing in accurate crosses to the two attackers. I knew this before the game so I am kicking myself for not paying closer attention to the wingers until I was already 1-0 down through that pain in the arse Cisse. After a quick change, Everton began to threaten and equalised just after the hour when one of Sam's defenders was robbed by Pedretti on the Everton right. Pedretti fed a nice ball into Petrov who finished with a sweet chip over the stranded Sorensen. A lovely goal and nothing lucky about it. However, Villa had a huge slice of luck when they won the game in the 89th minute. A through ball chased by Cisse and De Jong. I had confidence my defender would win the ball and indeed he did, playing a back pass to Isaksson. Amazingly as I awaited the keeper just to take a step to his left and boot the ball clear, Isaksson stood and watched it go in - one of those FM moments that makes you want to punch the screen. So Villa win 2-1 and are playing well - credit to Sam - but I feel my side Everton is better than Villa and I hope to finish above them come the end of the season. Everton 2 - 0 Wolves Well Rick Boult and Danny King will tell you all about how good Wolves are!! Everton though took the three points at Goodison - an og from Wolves and a good finish from Gilardino wrapping up the win. Chelsea 1 - 2 Everton Well it was a great day for EPL Challenge when Danny joined the clan for he is a top player and totally dedicated to FM. It was time to visit the Champions, Danny King's Chelsea side who are finding, like I did in 2007/08 and Andy did in 2008/09, that winning the title is one thing but defending it in a league this difficult with around 9 or 10 exceptional teams, is another. Last season Danny did the double over me on the way to the title which annoyed me a lot as I have a good record over Mr King in previous seasons prior to his arrival at Stamford Bridge. This was a game I was hoping to win but faced with a team like Danny's I knew it would take something special to win the game. Tale of the Tape: Well I'll not give away a few of the tweaks I made pre-game in order to win this game but Danny's tactic has remained constant since his first season in the clan and I'm pretty familiar with the way he plays. Basically, through the middle with some width provided by fullbacks and strikers and attacking midfielders moving wide. This was a very tense game and Everton look the lead after 10 minutes when Reveilliere swung a fantastic cross field ball into Petrov, who left Chelsea full back Van Den Borre for dead on Everton's left before finishing with composure past Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard. Chelsea came back as you would expect and some good saves from Isaksson were made and Chelsea came close on a number of occasions and on another day might have grabbed an equaliser. As it was, it was not one way traffic in this game as Everton created some super chances but didn't take them either (indeed I would say some were more clear cut). Gilardino made it 2-0 just after the hour and although Berbatov replied quickly for Chelsea, the London outfit were unable to create a clear opportunity to equalise. This was a very tough game and Chelsea remain a great side. Whether Danny will be allowed to hang out there much longer though is currently open to question. Oh and Vincent Kompany was a rock in this game but I didn't see too much from Mr Andres D'Alessandro. Everton 2 - 3 Manchester United Well, at this early stage its got to be put out there that if Rick Boult II is unable to win the league this season with this side and this start to the season then he will have blown it. There is a lot of speculation around the Premiership that the Rickster may not have the nerve to win the title and may suffer from some sort of "I'd love it" Kevin Keegan mental breakdown when it comes to the crunch. Only Rick can prove us all wrong and to be fair, so far he is going an excellent job and are everyone's favourites for the title. Now that I've applied the pressure - onto the game. Tale of the Tape: This was a tremendous match. Rick had blown away both Sam Bouchard and Andy Nilsen on their patches but Murphy held a psychological edge over Rick having been unbeaten against his side last season and taken much mileage over a 4-1 defeat of the Manchester Reds last season. Uniquely, on the eve of this match, both managers were abusing each others sides on MSN with Boult obviously concerned about what part my young Mexican AM Giovanni Dos Santos was going to play in the game after his hat trick last season. As it was, Rick was worried despite his bravado. He didn't want to lose this game and let one go first, changing his formation from the one that had brought him to the top of the table. Everton took advantage - in the first 35 minutes we were easily the better side and took the lead through Gilardino after around 25 minutes. The Italian should have added a second and that he didn't probably cost us the game. Rick went back to his 4-1-3-2 and equalised just before HT when that man Ronaldinho, who since Boult II arrived at OT has justified Liggins' £40m outlay on him, played in Ammendolea for a smart finish. After this Cana was deployed on the Brazilian and his influence waned and when substitute Kallstrom fired home a rocket on the hour to make it 2-1 Everton all was looking good. But Rick made another good move. There's a lot of debate about who is the best striker in the EPL atm but for me it is E'too without a shadow of a doubt and he is the one player I fear in the game. I was delighted to see him on the bench but he came on and despite my marking him with my own pacy defender, Yobo, he got away from a raking long pass to get through and equalise. Utd made it three when Everton made a hash of clearing a cross as Utd hit us on the counter again and won the game. So, fair play, I think Rick played a master class game here to win the match and has definitely got himself into the top branch of EPL managers over the past few seasons. I'm still p1ssed off though. Leicester 2 - 2 Everton The three promoted clubs are a lot better this season and this was a very very hard game, where Leicester went ahead twice with a last gasp 86th minute equaliser from Dos Santos grabbing Everton a point. Everton 2 - 0 Charlton Charlton have done Mo's Fulham and Danny's Chelsea this season as they put 11 men behind the ball and are tough to break down. A long range effort from Pedretti deflected in to give us the lead and in the last minute, Suazo assisted Semler to make it 2-0. In the UEFA Cup we ease past OB of Denmark in the first round and entered the group stage where the most difficult side are Sampdoria. In the first game of the group a 2-0 win was recorded over Turkish outfit Trabsonspor. The Carling Cup 3rd Round draw has been particularly cruel as we have pulled none other than Rick's Man Utd out of the hat and now have to play his team again!! Argh. At least the game is at Goodison and what I have learned from the league game is that United are very dangerous on the counter and Murphy may be taking measures to avoid getting caught out in similar fashion once again. The Premiership is now an amazing competition as five months of playing sees most of the human managers with great teams and are now tactically very astute. Rick's side looks the best of the lot this season and I'm confident Everton are second or third which is very good given our financial position at the end of last season. The man to watch for me at the minute is Mo Ilyas' Fulham who needs to win two games in hand to go into second place. Of course, I've known for some time that Mo would eventually become dangerous and my danger radar is beginning to beep a lot more loudly just down by the Thames. Of course, it would be a tragedy if Mo wins the Premiership with his brand of football but the man knows what he is doing. Pagi's Spurs were my pre-season tip for breaking into the top four and he's up there in second, with my old man Calaio delivering a lot of goals. However, in January, Pagi is offloading Ledley King to Chelsea for Cassano plus cash and this will either secure a top spot or see him fall away. Danny remains dangerous as does Sam Bouchard. My old mate down at Pompey, Andy Nilsen is finding it harder going this season so far and I think he may finish outside the top 6 for the first time in a few seasons. I used to think Andy was just a buy/sell top players manager but watching him over the past few seasons, I think Andy is more tactically aware than ever before and a league title with Pompey already has shown he deserves to be seen as one of the best managers on the forums. With Pazzini, he is dangerous and can't be ruled out of contention. Ben continues to be a hard side to beat down at St Andrews and will provide stiff competition for the UEFA Cup prize. Dave Williams is trying hard down at City but just hasn't got it right just yet, though his excellent sense of humour remains intact (so far!!). And I hope that we haven't seen the last of Mark D'Ardenne down at WBA. Affectionately known as Frenchie, Mark has been a great addition to the clan and joining, like Dave, late in the game was always going to find it difficult to break into the top section. Fulham got the first break through though as Vilakazi, a signing that I decided not to persue, finished off a good move to give Mo's team the lead. We answered back quickly though through the veteran striker Zurawski who finished well past Ochea for his first Birmingham goal. The second half was a similiar story with our new goalkeeper signing Stenild needlessly fouling a Fulham player in the box which gave the chance for Fulham defender Veron to step up and put the resulting penalty away to put Fulham back into the lead. Fulham then further extended their lead through their striker Fred and it seemed like the game was over until Fernandez gave us a lifeline with a cool finish to reduce our arrears to 3-2. Unfortunately we puffed and puffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but we couldn't blow down the defensive wall that Mo has developed with his Fulham team which is why they're looking very good this season. I'll look to put it right though at St Andrews as we showed enough to maybe have got something out of the match in the end . 6th October 2010 Birmingham 3 Dawson 31 Owen 45 Fernandez 55 Portsmouth 0 Considering the problems I usually have facing up against Goat's Portsmouth team , I wasn't going into the match with much confidence with just hoping to come away with a draw at most . The match was closely fought in the first 30 minutes until we won a corner which was swung in by Basturk and was met by the head of Dawson who powered the ball past the despairing dive of Wiese . Control of the match definitely swung towards us when Owen was put through and he stroked the ball into the top right hand corner to leave us 2-0 up going into half-time . With Goat making a few tactical changes, Portsmouth started the brightest in the second half until Fernandez put the game beyond our opponents as he finished off a quick counter-attack with a good finish. Portsmouth really cranked up the pressure in the last 20 minutes or so but with Niemi in great form in goal, there was no way through as we secured a very impressive victory . Goat claimed that 'We had more shots on goal but it was only because of Niemi that I lost' which was in total contrast to how the match actually went but then he's renounded for his sour grapes after losing matches . I think he's purchased some of those rose-tinted glasses that Alex Ferguson has worn throughout his managerial career . 16th October 2010 Tottenham 3 Calaio 6 Hitzlsperger 10 Janssen 88 Birmingham 2 Rosenberg 22 Cigarini 68 In a re-run of the UEFA Cup Final last season, the two upcoming managers came up against each other as we faced off against Pagi's resurgent Tottenham team. The match got off to a bad start as Calaio put Pagi's team 1-0 up but it then got worse as Hitzlsperger hit a tame long shot at Niemi who then proceeded to palm the ball into the net as Tottenham threatened to run away with the game. That was until Rosenberg picked the right time score his first league for us as he put away a cross from Esposito to get us back into the game as we got to half-time with the score 2-1. We then had Esposito sent-off for a second bookable offence, so after being forced into making a few tactical changes which included taking off Flamini and putting on Cigarini, the changes paid dividends when with about 20 minutes left of the match, Cigarini received the ball 25 yards out and powered the ball in the top-right hand corner giving the keeper no chance. So with the scores level at 2-2, It looked like it would end in a draw but that was until Pagi introduced Janssen to proceedings and he did his usual super sub routine as he latched onto a through ball and won the game with a lovely finish past Reina to win the game. Pagi accused us of being a 'dirty' team after saying that we'd injured most of his players but that's probably just because he knew he'd snatched all three points at the death when a draw would have been the fairest result in the end . We'll make sure we put this result right when it's the return fixture at St Andrews . Other Premiership There was also a 1-0 win over Frenchy's West Brom team with Mark's assistant in charge of the match (Come back Mark, I enjoyed beating you everytime I played you ), a 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool, a 5-2 trouncing of QPR, a closely fought 3-2 win over Blackburn, a 5-0 thrashing of Man City, a bad loss to a very impressive West Ham team and a 1-1 draw against a much improved Arsenal team that started off the season. UEFA Cup The campaign got off to a great start as we sailed through the 1st round against Roda JC, winning 10-0 on aggregate , we have now been drawn in Group G with Auxerre and Olympiakos being the main threats in the group out of the five teams. The first match put us up against little known Swedish football team Orgyte and we managed to easily win 4-0 as we dominated virtually the whole of the match. The games up against Auxerre and Olympiakos will definitely be harder than this but I'm still confident of getting through the Group stages and getting into a 2nd consecutive UEFA Cup final so we can make amends for last year's poor performance up against Pagi's Tottenham team . A few changes by Boult saw Eto'o and Delgado come off the bench an immediately reaped the reward as Delgado and Ronaldinho worked a nice 1 2 before releasing Eto'o in the clear to slot home from close range. With the game heading to a draw, Eto'o once again weaved his magic down the right wing crossing over the head of the Everton keeper and after a mess up from the defence, Delgado was on hand to give United all 3 points. I’m hoping the fans we remind Roman Abramovich that in less than two years at the club I have won the Premiership, Champions League, Uefa Cup, FA Cup, Community shield, Super Cup and Asian/Euro Cup but there again the fans are on my back for praising Cani for scoring 7 goals in 7 games in a midfield position so I guess there not on my side anymore. Transfers In… Bogdan Lobont.. from Birmingham for 5 million Lobont has recently been voted best goal keeper in EPL. He has just joined this season after a 5 million pound move from Birmingham City and will be first choice this year. Tom Huddlestone from Birmingham for part/ex Again brought Tom into Stamford Bridge as he has youth on his side and he looks like he could be class defender for the club Daniele Bonera from Juventus for 10 million and part/ex It was a mistake selling Bonera and when the chance appeared to bring back this top class international defender back to the Bridge I took it. Michael Essien from Lyon for free Michael has been outstanding for Lyon over the last few season and when his contact was running out Chelsea was more that happy to give the player a chance to prove himself in the Premiership. He is still coming into his prime in his football career. Mohamed Kallon from Monaco for free Again Mohamed had played some good stuff in the French League and wanted to prove himself in the Premiership. Scored a good goal against us last season for Monaco in the Champions League and he will add some class to the midfield area. Giuseppe Guerra from Sevilla for free Chelsea has to start looking for the future and with Guerra they have found a man that can play for the team in the new era. Already worth 9 million and looks the real deal. Robinho from Betis for 10 million Watch out EPL the boys from Brazil are coming to get you. What a bargain due to Betis going Bankrupt. Transfers Out Mwafulirwa to Charlton for free. With Mwafulirwa not being able to hold down a regular place in the first team he waited for his contact to run out and leave on a free transfer. Mutu to Manchester City for free. Again Mutu wasn’t a 1st team regular and Manchester City could offer him that. Sorry to see the lad go but he was getting on a bit and the coke was being to take its toll on the player. De Rossi to Juventus for 10 million plus part/ex Using De Rossi as bait was the only way I was going to get Daniele back from Juventus and to get 10 million for him was well was a bonus. Once the other managers in the premiership knew De Rossi was available the offers were coming in fast but I didn’t want to sell him to a rival. Cigarini to Birmingham for part/ex. With Carretto coming to Chelsea Cigarini found his first team chances very limited. With Birmingham looking for a dmc and us looking for a young defender this was an ideal swap. Paul Robinson to Tottenham for 8 million. Robbo never broke into the 1st team after his free transfer from White Hart Lane so when the opportunity to get an 8 million pound profit on a player for him I took it. The Goat himself would have been proud of that piece of business. Vincent Kompany to Everton for 12 million. Vincent never really settled into Chelsea and his performances never inspired the fans. Still a good player so it came to no surprise that both Everton and Fulham went head to head for him. Tommaso Benedeth to Leicester for 1.5 million Thommaso could turn into a good player but I felt we had better options in the squad so was shipped out to Leicester after the offer came in. First half and Chelsea team are still not playing that great but should have taken the lead in the 9th minute but Cani couldn’t finish a one-one with the West Ham keeper. I matched Rick’s formation as Manchester United had been playing some awesome stuff. Within the first 7 minutes Chelsea had been given a free kick after Ronaldinho had committed a foul, Rosicky stepped up and hit a fast shot into the wall which took a deflection from Silvano into the Manchester United goal. Then Ronaldinho made up for his mistake by hitting a 35 yard free kick past my goal keeper. Rosicky scored a free kick to put Chelsea 2-1 up before Cerci leveled again to make it 2-2. Robinho popped up in the 44 minutes to give us the lead going into half time. Second half and a few subs are made on each side with Delgado coming on and making an impact leveling the game at 3-3. Charlton scored with there only shot on goal and we did more than enough to win the game but being low on morale we seemed to be taking a lot of long shots on goal. 1-1 Draw Premiership… Currently in 5th place after 10 games with the board and fans are already on my back. What short memories they have as only a few months ago they were singing my name from the terraces. Manchester united was looking unbeatable under Rick until he said he would leave EPL if he didn’t win the league (what more incentive do you need to win now ). They way its looking at the moment Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham or Villa could walk away with the title. Champion League…. Its business as usual for the European Champions Chelsea in the Champions League wining all 3 games of there against Real Madrid, Feyenoord and Benfica. Chelsea is looking a different class so far in Europe . Cups… In the Carling Cup I have been drawn against WBA which I didn’t see as a problem until Mark left again. This happened last season in the league when he was Newcastle manager and they played the game of there lives against me then so who knows what will happen in this tie. The Premiership is very tight this season and that is reflected in the results. FA Barclaycard Premiership Southampton 0 - 2 Everton A very good win at the home of the Saints who have a number of dangerous players in their side. Semler and Suazo the men on target. Yeeha. Carling Cup 3rd Round Everton 3 - 0 Manchester United Sweet revenge for the unfortunate league defeat to Man Utd a couple of weeks earlier. Before the game, word was leaked to the press that Man Utd manager Rick Boult was "burnin the midnight oil" trying to figure out a "Murphy buster" tactic. Well on this evidence a few more sleepness nights are required from Mr Boult after this performance by his lads - as the bad blood between Everton and Utd continued to simmer - Boult storming out of Goodison Park without being professional and congratulating the Everton boss on his victory. On the pitch, the game was over at Half Time, after a brace from rejuvenated German striker Borut Semler and a stunning free kick from Swedish Legend Kim Kallstrom put the Toffees 3-0 up with just over half an hour played. In the second half the game petered out rather tamely from Utd's point of view as Everton were barely troubled on the day. A disappointing performance from a practically full strength side from the league leaders. FA Barclaycard Premiership Everton 1 - 2 Arsenal Bad slip up here as Wenger's last few days in charge at Arsenal see him defeat us at Goodison Park and then go on to also defeat Chelsea as the mercurial Frenchman goes out on a high. The key here was an appalling display from the normally reliable and rock solid Joseph Yobo, which Arsenal striker Portillo took full advantage off with two spectacular strikes. Everton pulled one back through Semler but a steady performance in the Arsenal goal by Roy Carroll saw us unable to score the equaliser and record a point. UEFA Cup Group Stage Steau Bucharest 0 - 2 Everton Comfortable win in Romania giving us 6 points from 6 and practically ensuring we move into the First KO Round proper. FA Barclaycard Premiership Birmingham 1 - 1 Everton Ben Jackson is a dangerous opponent at St Andrews as teams such as Andy Nilsen's Portsmouth have found to their cost this season. After Pompey lost 3-0 here earlier in the season, Nilsen was spotted in the crowd jotting down some tactical tips from the Everton formation in an attempt to figure out how to play the Blues. As it was, this was a dull game, which is always good news for the away manager. An early goal from Michael Owen gave Jacko's side the lead, but not long after, Vincent Kompany registered his first goal for the club with an excellent header from a corner. The best chance to win the game came with six minutes left, when Borut Semler got through, but Brum defender Gonzalez got back just in time to make a life saving tackle which earned Ben's team a point. Carling Cup 4th Round Middlesbrough 1 - 2 Everton This was a fantastic match at the Riverside where I have suffered a few defeats in my time as Everton boss. Everton were up against it from the off as the referee sent off Kim Kallstrom with barely a minute on the clock. However, Semler helped Everton shrug off the loss of the Swedish maestro and when we added a second goal the tie was effectively over, although James Morrison did pull one back late on to give Boro a hope they didn't deserve. This sets us up for a Quarter Final tie against Danny King's Chelsea at Goodison Park, so if we win this competition we will have done it the hardest way possible. FA Barclaycard Premiership Everton 4 - 2 West Bromwich Albion At last a home win against my bogey team at Goodison WBA. It only took seven seasons which is crazy when I have never lost at the Hawthorns. This was a testing game for the Toffees, with Kallstrom suspended, Dos Santos injured and Isaksson also injured forcing me to pick the dodgiest keeper in the world Gino Mommers, who couldn't catch a cold. As such, dangerman for WBA, Cesar Delgado scored with Albions' first attempt but goals from Semler and Petrov put Everton back in front. Despite this, WBA scored with their second shot on target, a rasping effort beating the rubbish Mommers all ends up. 2-2. Looked like we'd be done again, especially when Petrov took a knock, was replaced by promising Welsh winger Peters, who was then subsequently crocked himself. Moving Suazo out to the left wing and introducing Vittek and fit again Gilardino did the trick though, with both strikers scoring in the last ten minutes to wrap up an important win to keep Everton in touch at the top of the table. With the top 10 in contention for Champions League, and MOST of the top 10 performing to a very high standard it's not lookin' too good for Sam Bouchard' Barmey Army. Arsene Wenger has been thrown out on his arse after not performing in the league to standard in recent years, dispite winning the Champions League in recent memory twice! Danny King believes he will also follow in Wenger's path to the job club as his a possible curse of winning the Champions League is beginning to emerge. Ben Jackson looks to swoop like a vulture to the Chelsea hotseat...if they'll have him that is whilst Niall Murphy shuns his first love, Arsenal in favour of some unknown group of players up in the land that time forgot. Premier League - Game 8 Leicester City [0]: Aston Villa [1]: Grygera(og) Some dismal defending from both sides gave chance for a very open game, and that it was - but only one goal was scored with both keepers hitting form. It took an own goal to defeat the newly premoted side who surely will take points off teams this season. Champions League Group A - Game 2 Aston Villa [0]: Club Brugge [1]: Simons With a relativly passable group Aston Villa had set their sights on the knockout stages, and with 3 points away to Lyon in the first game already in the bag this one looked almost a dead cert too. Poor defending once more by Taylor gave Simons a chance to score and he duly took it. 3 Points dropped against a side that should be beaten, two games against Inter Milan next...oh joy! Premier League - Game 9 Aston Villa [2]: v.Nistelrooy(2) Charlton [0]: Considering the tightness of the league the points against lesser thought of teams are more valuable than Rick Boult's ******* claw. Premier League - Game 11 Aston Villa [3]: Cisse(2), v.Nistelrooy Arsenal [2]: Kapo(2) Being 3-0 up against Arsenal doesn't really happen often so i thought i'd take it easy after that point - bit of a mistake - they came back with two goals in 6 minutes and er well....i was on my toes for the rest of the game put it like that. Champions League Group A - Game 3 Aston Villa [1]: Cisse Inter Milan [1]: Ewerthon The giants of Italian football brought along their odd little fans with their smoke bombs to Villa Park to see beautiful manager Sam Bouchard...aswell as the game i believe. An Inter mistake on 40 minutes gave Cisse the chance to BURY one in the back of their net and he did...in some style it has to be said. Ewerthon got a rebounded shot late on to equalise..doh . Premier League - Game 12 Birmingham City [4]: Owen(2), Zurawski(pen), Harbuzi Aston Villa [0]: Villa weren't even in the game - full credit to Ben Jackson at the Birmingham helm, destroyed the away side completly from start to finish. Terrible game..let's move on shall we... Champions League Group A - Game 3 Inter Milan [2]: Motta, Ewerthon Aston Villa [4]: v.Nistelrooy(2 pens), Vorisek, Lampard A day to be proud of for Aston Villa fans EVERYWHERE! Bouchard cemented his stance on the European stage tonight as he led his team to victory over the Italian giants. Scoring 4 goals in the San Siro against a strong Inter side brought out the best from the fans and the manager too. Simply stunning . Premier League Game 14 Liverpool [0]: Aston Villa [1]: v.Nistelrooy 2nd against 5th........2 sendings off......one goal.....one winner....one Aston Villa League Cup 4th Round Liverpool [3]: Valdez, Holm, Lupoli Aston Villa [0]: The reserves were put out for this one due to the crunch league game against Fulham just days away. They put up a good fight in the first half but just cracked undder pressure against a first choice 11 from Liverpool....welll they've gotta win something surely? Premier League Game 15 Aston Villa [6]: Cisse(2), Nolan, Vorisek(3) Fulham [1]: Taylor(og) Bar the dismal own goal at the end of the game, this was pretty much a perfect performance. A very strong Fulham have given themselves every chance to qualify for Europe this year dispite Mo's poor cash offering's in the transfer market. Usually a team stands tall in adversity...but Mo's just flopped over, as per, and failed to cope under the Aston Villa pressure . Vorisek bagged 3 long range BEAUTY'S whilst Kevin Nolan smashed one in from 20 years...captive viewing. Sublime passing for Cisse's goals, with cross field balls being played like short one two's the game was going to be special. One only hopes Mo remembers how he played here for the return game in a few months . Manager Sam Bouchard feels the tactics were right...but really we all know Villa are Champions in waiting...aren't they? No chance for the Championship surely... It's believed he's been invited by the hard hitting Russian, Maria Sharapova. This isn't going to be taken well by Boult's current girlfriend Kelly Brook whose just returned to Britain after shooting Celebrity Love Island. Rick asked to meet a real sports star and in this case in was Maria Sharapova. Maria did not wanted to meet a beer Belly, foul mouth smelling Rick, but was persuaded by her advisers to meet with him as she felt sorry for him. As Rick walked into the dressing room, (who had a tipple or two during the day) Rick lost his balance in Maria dressing room and went head first into maria lockers which was ajar. Rick was slightly dazed and now found his head stuck in Maria locker with his lumbering arms and beer Belly lying outside the locker. Rick attempted in vain to dislodge his head from the locker , but his overflated head (Since he had been at Man U) would not budge. Maria called in help from her escorts to pull Ricks head out but it was no good. The emergency services were called and they all huffed and puffed, but it was no good. The emergency services were about to use a blow torch to break free Rick from the locker when Rick noticed a small photo in Maria;s locker. It was a photo signed by Pagi holding the Uefa and FA cup and had been inscribed with “With all my loveâ€. At that sudden moment the emergency will swear on oath that Rick’s head shrank by an inch and thus freeing him from the locker. This all happened over a half an hour time span, but Maria needed a further 15 minutes to compose herself as she and her escorts as well as the emergency services rolled around on the floor laughing! Well with Man Utd holding a big points lead at the top of the table, the Cup competitions have an additional importance as a route to silverware. The Carling Cup is being taken seriously by most managers this season and it is certainly bringing the best out of my lads as we sit 90 minutes away from a place at Wembley for the first time since the Community Shield at the beginning of 2008/09. After comfortably disposing of Rick Boult II's Manchester United by a convincing 3-0 scoreline in the 3rd Round, then defeating Middlesbrough 2-1 at the Riverside, Everton faced another very tough game in this competition in the Quarter Final, with under pressure manager Danny King II bringing his Chelsea boys up the road to Merseyside. With irate Chelsea fans protests ringing in Danny's ears, Mr King was just happy to be out of London for a few hours and knew a win over Everton would silence the boo boys on Kings back for at least a few days. Unfortunately for Danny he was entering Murphy's Lair: Carling Cup Quarter Final Everton 3 - 1(aet) Chelsea This was a fantastic game and a very tough one as always against Danny's Chelsea team. Tale of the Tape: Murphy's mind games that he "knew exactly how King played" seemed to have done the trick as Danny King pulled off a surprise before kick off - his team sheet showing a change to the runs of his midfielders albeit in the same formation that has won trophies for Danny at Chelski. It was Chelsea who came out of the blocks the quickest, in an impressive opening 20 minutes the Londoners forced a number of corners and looked dangerous from them as well, with Cani being a thorn in the Toffee's side. After good defensive work and a couple of important interventions by Andreas Isaksson, Everton had importantly not buckled under Chelski pressure and began to come into the game. Before half time the Toffees took the lead through top goalscorer this season, Slovakian hitman Borut Semler and after this, the Merseysiders were comfortable for quite some time. As the clock ticked down towards the inevitable Everton win, Danny King was spotted sweating on the touchline, his face as grey as his long "Chelsea poseur" coat, urging his men on and re-arranging his side. And for King it worked. As Chelsea became more dangerous and Everton struggled to keep them at arms length from their goal, the Londoners showed why they are the Champions by grabbing an 82 minute equaliser which sent the game into extra time. Murphy, however was inspired by such a titanic struggle and after a great passionate team talk, played his hand. Petrov and Gilardino entered the fray, with the instruction to "Bury the Blues!!". Shortly after the game restarted, Gilardino swoops on the Chelsea goal and fires home to put Everton back in front. Yeeeessssss!! 2-1 but still time for Martin Petrov, the scourge of so many a side over the past few years, drifts in from a wide position to slot home and seals the tie and Everton's place in the semi finals. Woo hoo.... Nilsen, I'm coming to get you!!! </div></BLOCKQUOTE> Carling Cup Semi Final First Leg Portsmouth 4 - 4 Everton Reading the comments of Danny King before the game, I had to agree with the sentiments expressed in his article that winning the Carling Cup this season is probably harder than winning the Champions League!! Next up, it was one of my historic rivals, Andy "The Goat" Nilsen at Portsmouth. Andy is having a poor season this year and is adrift from the rest of us in the Premiership, languishing in 10th place. Before this game, Andy had rested his players in the FA Cup 3rd Round against Leicester City and paid the price by getting dumped out of the cup. How the EPL chucked at that!! Therefore, considering Pompey are, in my opinion, unlikely to win the Champions League, the Carling Cup is probably Andy's last chance of silverware. Tale of the Tape: After a 3-3 draw in the Premiership, I was confident I had finally ended my run of just turning up at Fratton to get beat and felt we could take something from the game. The one thing you know when you go to Fratton is that Portsmouth will score against you so its important to make sure you can pick them off at the back as well. This was another outstanding game with defences practically non existent. Before the game, I had made a major move in the transfer market, by selling my top scorer Borut Semler to AS Roma for the princely sum of £20m but with the mouth watering add in of Columbian striker Edixon Perea included in the deal. Too much happened in this great game to run through it all but Perea hit a brace, Gilardino finally took a chance to make it 3-3 after Andy had come from 1-0 and 2-1 down to lead 3-2, before Suazo (what a great signing this boy was Sam) made it 4-3 before Diego (not the Porto one) scored his second to make it 4-4. Great game, between two of the original champions - at their respective first teams - but I'm pleased to bank a draw with four away goals before the return at Goodison. With the title beyond us, I will be disappointed to miss out on a European Champions League place as I feel our team is more than good enough for it once again. A few results against the AI before discussing the major games, saw a 4-1 hammering by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, before I set a target of 15 points from the next five games which we managed to achieve against lesser sides. Some of the other games: Everton 1 - 2 Fulham Mo has a very good side down at Craven Cottage and will also be hoping to sneak into the top four this season, but despite a good array of talent continues to play the frustrating game in a 5-3-2 line up based on defensive solidity. After consistently beating Mo in the early seasons, Mo has turned the tables on me and recently has a good record against my boys. This defeat annoyed me as my new 4-4-1-1 was working well up to this point and I was keen to see it put a few goals past the Ilyas one. However, an early goal from Robbie Keane exposed a flaw in the tactic that I have now reversed and of course, if you concede first to Fulham you are in trouble. Despite trying to take the game to the Londoners, Mo picked us off again in the second half with another effective substitution allowing Winkler to make it 2-0. Having tried going 3 at the back, reverting back to season 5 tactics and then going 3 at the back again, we did make it 2-1 with 3 minutes to go, but Fulham deserved the win and Mo probably had another cosy night with Mrs Ilyas as a result...It won't be the same the next time Mo!!!! Everton 4 - 1 Portsmouth The Sunday Papers after this one screamed out - "Nilsen An-Niall-ated at Goodison!!" and "Pompey Torn Apart by Impressive Toffees" making my early morning cup of coffee a very pleasant one indeed that day. After an even 20 minutes, a quick tactical change gazumpped the south coast outfit as Everton raced into a three goal lead. Despite Pompey pulling one back, Everton wrapped up a great performance when Gilardino added a fourth goal to wrap up the points and see Andy back off down to the south coast in quiet, embarrassed form. Loooovvvvvvve Le!! Tottenham 2 - 0 Everton Pagi's turnaround since moving to Spurs is amazing. I know exactly what he's at down there to, with Calaio appearing to be used as a target, Defoe sniffing chances around him as left winger Downing pulls the strings and Pagi's RM does the run perfected by Ljungberg at Arsenal into goalscoring positions. You would think that this would leave Pagi's right back exposed but the Spurs boss pushes him up the flank so it's difficult to get going down the left as well, although I may explore this option in our next meeting. Pagi deserved the win as I hoped to pick Tottenham off on the break, we created the odd chance but were outplayed by a Spurs side that in most seasons would be being talked about as possible champions. Defoe scored before HT and when the second went in, Murphy knew it wasn't his day and a second consecutive defeat at "The Lane" was recorded as I go back to the drawing board for future meetings down here. Everton 1 - 0 Aston Villa As Doug Ellis clearly doesn't pay Sam Bouchard enough down at Villa Park, Mr Bouchard II was off working his second job in an attempt to scrape together a few pennies for his summer holiday. His team suffered as the absent minded Bouchard forgot to tell the assistant how to play and Villa lined up in a flat 4-4-2 and not the expected diamond. As an extra bonus, left midfield genius Rubirosa was sitting in central midfield. How we liked that one!! Kim Kallstrom won the game with a typical powerful finish just after HT. Villa are a side who I cannot fathom are so good and they came back strongly in this game and were probably unlucky not to nick a draw, but Villa have had a few lucky results against me in the past few seasons so it was about time the Toffees got the rub of the green...1-0 to the Everton!!!!!! FA Cup 3rd Round Everton 5 - 0 Middlesbrough Very convincing win, Perea scoring on his debut, Kallstrom, Pedretti and Gilardino score. This means that Pagi's Tottenham will visit Goodison in the FA Cup 4th Round as my season of incredibly tough cup draws continues unabated. With both myself and Pagi having recorded 2-0 wins each over each other, home advantage will hopefully see Everton through to the Fifth Round...We want this one Pagi and you and your sorry excuse for a team are going down!!!!!!! This is the second time I have been beaten by Everton this season and I still have to play them again at Goodison in the league . Chelsea should have been a couple up after 20 minutes but super Isaksson just couldn’t be beaten. Then to add insult to injury Everton score with there first attack of the game to take a 1-0 lead into half time. Second half with little happening in the way of highlight I change the formation playing 3 up front to try and pull us level and with 8 minutes left on the clock Tuncay breaks free a scores to take the game into extra time. When Chelsea still on the attack Niall makes a couple of good tactical changes and brings on Petrov and Gilardino who both score to give Everton the win. Transfers In… L King from Tottenham for part/ex Even with King reaching 30 years old he still is a world class defender who could have another 3 years at the top. He will make a great partnership him and Terry at the back for Chelsea in the next couple of years Guaria from Tottenham for 15 million Guaria is a great player who has been having a very poor season for Tottenham. Like all players sometimes, they need a change of clubs to give there career a boast. He will take over from Carretto as 1st choice DMC. Transfers Out Cassano to Tottenham for part/ex Cassano was used in the part exchange deal that brought King to Stamford Bridge. I feel with Robinho, Nilmar, Postiga and Berbatov I have another cover up front and I needed a defender more so I was happy to offer the exchange to Pagi. Carrick to Tottenham for 10 million I think the Tottenham manager has more money than he knows what to do with as I had just received a 3rd offer of 30 million cash for Rosicky that I had rejected. Then a 10 million pound offer came in for a backup player and it was to good to reject. I have some big games coming up against Villa, Portsmouth, Everton and Manchester united knowing a couple of defeats in those games could cost me my job. A competition that Niall failed last season to win and qualify for Europe . Fulham 3–2 Birmingham EPL Ben is a great tactician who Mo regards as a friend and even asks Ben advice on tactics. Unfortunately for Ben this time, Fred – The new Brazilian kid on the Fulham block was precise in taking his chances and a fortunately penalty to Fulham insured that for once Birmingham left empty handed. Arsenal 1–3 Fulham EPL A great derby result, once again the supporters are pleased with a win at their local rivals expense. Manchester City 3-1 Fulham EPL This game was heading for a draw after City surrendered their early lead in the first half and Fulham equalised in the second half. A football game is made up of 90 minutes and extra time unfortunately as William’s found out. Fulham scored twice in the extra time. Fulham 2–2pen Liverpool League Cup 3rd Round A hard 3rd round tie in the league cup with high flying Liverpool resulted with a 2-2 score at full-time. With no goals in extra time, atrocious penalties by Fulham gave Liverpool a deserved win. Portsmouth 3–2 Fulham EPL Having never beaten GOAT in the EPL, it was inevitable that Portsmouth would score with their attacking prowess. Fulham played surprising well to manage a respectable score line, a very disappointing loss. Fulham 1–2 Tottenham EPL If Pagi is a great tactition, then Mo is a monkey’s uncle! I was most impressed by Pagi in how his team defended with easy precise tackling, adjusting the width of his side so that it was so narrow that people on Dr Aitken’s diet would have trouble in getting any narrower. Mo “Cheetah†was disappointed to give away a very late free kick outside the box to give Spurs the winner. Aston Villa 6–1 Fulham EPL I’ll have to hold my hands up and say well done to Sam here. Mo was just shell shocked at the way Fulham just caved in. Even with 5 on the back line, Villa created chance after chance. Mo thinks that Villa players are either eating spinach only or Fulham need to reconsider their tactical approach…….Mo is considering putting 6 on the backline . Fulham 0–1 Wolves EPL Wolves had 1 shot on goal which resulted in one goal and Fulham had atleast 7 times as many shots on their goal. The score for early on stayed 1-0 to Wolves and remained that. A very bad loss at home, considering that prior to this game, Fulham had beaten Liverpool in the EPL. One result to forget. Everton 1–2 Fulham EPL Brett Emerton the scorer of last years winner against Everton at Craven Cottage was in sizzling form to create two goals for Fulham to record Fulham’s first win at Everton since Mo took over. Fulham fully deserved this win, as Fulham have gone for a more attacking mentality which has paid dividends this year. Fulham 0–3 Chelsea EPL A very bad home loss to Danny’s Chelsea even when Mo’s Fulham defended heavily against a strong Chelsea side. It’s a good thing Fulham defended, otherwise another riot like Sams rampant Villa could have caused big morale problems. Mo is tempted to ask his arch enemy Niall for advice on this once ! Manchester United 2–1 Fulham 1 EPL Rampant Rick who has set the EPL on fire with his team is looking likely to take the knob of the year award in this year’s EPL Eurovision votes. Man took an undeserved lead early in the first half only for Fulham to score the most bizarre goal ever seen in the EPL. Fulham right back Mabizela floated a cross from his own half heading towards United’s goal. No Fulham striker was near the penalty when the United keeper decided to come out of goal and play as a sweeper. The ball from Mabizela landed outside the penalty box with the keeper stranded a few yards away, slowly trickled into goal! Anyhow, the game continued and soon United where down to 10 after a red card incident. Fulham firm until a stunning strike from Ronaldinho broke the defensive wall of Fulham and lead to United’s win. So with half a season gone, Fulham are hanging onto 10th place in the EPL. Fulham have made it into the Uefa Cup 1st Round Knockout and will hope to progress to the latter stages. Financially Fulham are still in the black with around £6 million in the bank Fulham will once against pursue to extend their 30k capacity stadium and therefore look to keep money in the bank for such a venture. In the transfer market, Fulham will dabble with selling off a few players, especially the likes of midfielders of which they have around 8 players competing for 3 spots in each game. Fulham will also announce the capture of a key midfielder from Portsmouth in January! In Mo’s opinion Fulham have reached a point of equilibrium in the EPL. They are generally good against the side below them in the EPL table and quite poor against the teams above them in the table. Mo is searching for the Holy Grail formation that could transform Fulham. Unfortunately it looks like that other managers might have the Holy Grail already, and is probably too late for Mo. Mr Leeds United Posted July 1, 2005 Share Posted July 1, 2005 Desperate Meassure's for West Bromwich Albion West Brom were forced into a shock move by employing unproven manager Daniel Caruso to try keep them up. Inheriting a squad plagued with injury's to quality players such as satr Striker Delgado I knew times are going to be tough to keep WBA up. My first game on boxing day ended in a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal and to make matters worse my star AMC(who don't know names of yet) got his leg broken and will be out for 5 months Next match was vs Birmingham which ended in a 1-0 defeat when we had most of the chances in that match but with a striker crisis I couldn't expect less Next Match was vs West Ham and Today we picked up a goaless draw something told me I needed Strikers and fast as we were lucky not to win it again Next Match was Mansfield Town in the F.A Cup 3rd round which we brezzed through 2-0 even with my B-Team out so this boosted morale for the team and hopefully this win will boost morale for us for the upcoming game vs Fulham Being apointed manager of WBA at the right time 4 days before the transfer window opened has enabled me to bring people I want in. Currently I have signed Angelos Charistaes- 4.3m Utility Player Anton Ferdiand 4.9m Youseff Hersi 2.1m Due to my appointment I had to cancel Tin Jansan's £10m move to me a day before I was going to sign him due to me realising his Transfer Deal did not meet the market value and I good of brought 2 or 3 quality players with that money.
