Nobby_McDonald
JANUARY 2019 The start to the new year didn't go well as we struggle for goals and points. We manage to stay in 17th, though mainly because we've played more games than most teams now. With morale low, it will be a struggle to turn this round. Nobby_McDonald
MARCH 2019 March went pretty well. Nobby_McDonald
APRIL & MAY 2019 A poor finish to the season as we get just two points from our last five games though we did very well to draw at home to champions South Shields. Nobby_McDonald
AUGUST 2019 In the first match we had the same number of shots and more possession and somehow ended up getting stuffed. Despite the heavy defeat, I felt good about the team. I was proved right as we were unbeaten for the rest of the month, Harry Clayton was banging in goals left, right and centre and we enjoyed our best start to a season since I took charge. Nobby_McDonald
SEPTEMBER 2019 A mixed month. Our league form dipped although we remain in 7th place at the end of the month. The second game featured a mammoth trek to the Channel Islands for a Northern Premier League Premier Division match. Clayton didn't seem to mind the trip though as he bagged his second hattrick in three games. We started our FA Cup campaign with a great win at the Northern Premier League Premier Division league leaders even though our goalkeeper was injured with ten minutes to play having used all three subs, before scraping through against a team three divisions below us. This earns us a home tie against National League North side FC United of Manchester. Hope we thrash their ****ing arses. Nobby_McDonald
OCTOBER 2019 The month started very well with two wins. However, things went pear shaped quite quickly after that and we dropped down the league to 11th by the end of the month. In the FA Cup we put up a great fight against FC United from the National League North. Two down at half time we equalised in the second half, only to concede an agonising injury time winner. It was a very good performance from the team - one we wouldn't repeat in the remaining four league games in the month. Nobby_McDonald
NOVEMBER 2019 A very good month on the whole. Two wins out of three in the league though we didn't move in the table due to other sides play more games - we stay 11th. The one we lost we were 3-1 down after only 19 minutes. We play well in the cups too, only being beaten by opposition from the league above. Nobby_McDonald
DECEMBER 2019 Another very good month. Despite losing our first league match of the month, we won three and drew one of the remaining four leaving us in the strongest position we have been in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. Harry Clayton suffered a calf strain in the last match though and will be out for 4 weeks. Nobby_McDonald
JANUARY 2020 A mixed month. Some great away performances were wiped out by some poor home matches. Even so, we sit in 6th at the end of the month after 32 games, though we have played the most. Harry Clayton returned as a sub in the Droylsden game. Nobby_McDonald
FEBRUARY 2020 A very tough month - in the league we play four out of the top five, the only league match against anyone lower was at home to Ilkeston. Nobby_McDonald
MARCH 2020 Only four games this month and I have no idea why. Results were mixed and we're struggling to score goals, including the normally reliable Clayton who has lost his scoring touch. NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Newcastle Town 1 Tadcaster Albion 0 (Parker) - 103 Salford City 2 Newcastle Town 0 - 218 Hednesford Town 1 Newcastle Town 1 (Clayton) - 271 Newcastle Town 0 Whitchurch Alport 0 - 112 This leaves us in 8th place after 41 games, 8 points behind the playoffs. However, the top four are out of reach - 5th is the only slightly realistic prospect. March sees our youth intake, and in comes one player who is already good enough for the first team, is already rated as decent for the Northern Premier League Premier Division, my coaches think "he can improve a lot" while the player himself already states he wants to play in and win National League North/South. Here is Matthew Summerfield who made his debut at Hednesford. He handily filled a weak spot in the team on the right wing, which has been filled by Stevenage loanee Alex Adams and Adam Parker - neither of whom are really good enough to make much impact. Nobby_McDonald
APRIL 2020 Failure to win any game this month sees all our good work in the season undone and we plummet down the table. Arse. We've struggled for goals ever since Harry Clayton strained his calf at New Years. Even Clayton's goals dried up on his return. Tolland comes into the side and scores two goals in two games, then suffers a dead leg in his second game. Even when it looks like we'll score goals again, something happens to put the brakes on it. We made a decent enough start and rose up the table in Autumn and Winter to sit just outside the playoffs, where we managed to stay for a while. A poor end to the season saw us drop like a stone to 15th, a position which didn't really do us justice. Nobby_McDonald
SEPTEMBER 2020 We tighten up at the back, helped by new signing Dave Barnett and tweaking the tactics. Two wins and two draws in the first four leagues games of the month looked like getting better when 2-1 at Salford with twenty minutes to play only for the game to crash and we end up losing the second attempt at playing the match. Instead of being 13th, we lie 16th. In the FA Cup we overcome a United Counties League side below losing at a team 7th in National League North. Nobby_McDonald
OCTOBER 2020 For the first time in a long time I had a long FM session. And it was possibly the worst session I have ever had. Starting with the replayed Salford match to end the previous month we lost six in a row before drawing to Ilkeston in the FA Trophy and losing the replay when Hughes was injured after 22 minutes when one nil up and having no substitute goalkeeper. A very plucky and encouraging performance, but we lost again. NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION Loughborough University 1 Newcastle Town 0 - 46 Newcastle Town 1 Scarborough Athletic 2 (Mattis) - 101 Newcastle Town 0 Handsworth Parramore 3 - 80 Bacup Borough 2 Newcastle Town 0 - 102 Newcastle Town 1 Ilkeston 4 (Summerfield) - 97 FA TROPHY FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND - Newcastle Town 1 Ilkeston 1 (Blake) - 79 FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND REPLAY - Ilkeston 3 Newcastle Town 2 (Mattis, Walsh) - 188 We have fell to 23rd but at least we have gone from having no hope to an encourage fighting performance in the last match of the month. Nobby_McDonald
I'm struggling with crashes. I had to start saving after every match, because I was starting to experience sporadic crashes between matches and sometimes in a match. When I last played last weekend, the game crashed during saving and I ended up having played just two matches in two and a half hours. I'm saving up for a new laptop which I should get later in the year and I will almost certainly buy FM18 when I get it. So I don't know how much of this save I will play now.
