Introduction

Manchester City Football Club is a football club in Manchester, England. Founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), they became Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 and Manchester City in 1894. The club moved to the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003, having played at Maine Road since 1923.

St. Marks (Gorton) in 1884

St_Marks_1884.jpg

Though winning their first trophy in 1904, the club's most successful period was in the late 1960s and early 1970s when they won the League Championship , FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup Winner’s Cup under the management team of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allisson. After losing the 1981 FA Cup Final, the club went through a period of decline, culminating in relegation to the third tier of English Football for the only time in their history in 1998.

Having regained Premier League status, the club was purchased in 2008 by Abu Dhabi United Group and has become one of the wealthiest in the world. In 2011, Manchester City qualified for the UEFA Champions League and won the FA Cup. The following year, they won the Premier League, their first league title for 44 years. In 2014, they won the League Cup and a second Premier League title.

By 2013–14, Manchester City had the sixth-highest revenue in the footballing world with an annual revenue of €414.4 million, and were the world’s fifth most valuable football team with an estimated valuation of $1.38 billion according to Forbes magazine.

Stadium

Stadium%20new.ashx?h=450&w=800

Manchester City's stadium is the City of Manchester Stadium, also known as Eastlands and the Etihad Stadium since July 2011 because of sponsorship commitments. The stadium is situated in East Manchester and is part of a 200-year operating lease from Manchester City Council after the 2002 Commonwealth Games. The stadium has been City's home since the end of the 2002–03 season, when the club moved from Maine Road. Before moving to the stadium, Manchester City spent in excess of £30 million to convert it to football use. The field of play was lowered by several metres, adding another tier of seating around the entire pitch. A new North Stand was also built.[87] The inaugural match at the new stadium was a 2–1 win over FC Barcelona in a friendly match. The capacity as of summer 2013 stands at 47,405 after various stadium renovations under the new owners since 2008.

Manchester City have used several grounds during their history: after playing home matches at five stadiums between 1880 and 1887, the club settled at Hyde Road Football Stadium, its home for 36 years. After a fire destroyed the Main Stand in 1920, the club started to seek a new site and moved to the 84-000 capacity Maine Road three years later. Maine Road, nicknamed the "Wembley of the North" by its designers, hosted the largest-ever crowd at an English club ground when 84,569 attended an FA Cup tie against Stoke City on 3 March 1934.[91] Though Maine Road was redeveloped several times over its 80-year lifespan, by 1995 its capacity was restricted to 32,000, prompting the search for a new ground which culminated in the move to the City of Manchester Stadium in 2003. New expansions are in the process to bring the capacity to 60,000 seats by 2017.

Club badge and colours

Manchester City's home colours are sky blue and white. Traditional away kit colours have been either maroon or (from the 1960s) red and black; however, in recent years several different colours have been used. The origins of the club's home colours are unclear, but there is evidence that the club has worn blue since 1892 or earlier. A booklet entitled Famous Football Clubs – Manchester City published in the 1940s indicates that West Gorton (St. Marks) originally played in scarlet and black, and reports dating from 1884 describe the team wearing black jerseys bearing a white cross, showing the club's origins as a church side. The red and black away colours come from former assistant manager Malcolm Allisson, who believed that adopting the colours of A.C. Milan would inspire City to glory.

Neil Young goes past Leicester City's Peter Shilton in the 1969 FA Cup final

2daykc4.jpg

Allison's theory worked, with City winning the 1969 FA Cup Final, 1970 League Cup Final and the 1970 European Cup Winner’s Cup Final in red and black stripes as opposed to the club's home kit of sky blue.

The current club badge was adopted in 1997 as a result of the previous badge being ineligible for registration as a trademark. The badge is based on the arms of the city of Manchester, and consists of a shield in front of a golden eagle. The eagle is an old heraldic symbol of the city of Manchester; a golden eagle was added to the city's badge in 1958 (but has since been removed), representing the growing aviation industry. The shield features a ship on its upper half representing the Manchester Ship Canal, and three diagonal stripes in the lower half symbolise the city's three rivers – the Irwell, the Irkland and the Medlock. The bottom of the badge bears the motto Superbia in Proelio, which translates as Pride in Battle in Latin. Above the eagle and shield are three stars, which are purely decorative.

City have previously worn two other badges on their shirts. The first, introduced in 1970, was based on designs which had been used on official club documentation since the mid-1960s. It consisted of a circular badge which used the same shield as the current badge, inside a circle bearing the name of the club. In 1972, this was replaced by a variation which replaced the lower half of the shield with the red rose of Lancashire. On occasions when Manchester City plays in a major cup final, the usual badge has not been used; instead shirts bearing a badge of the arms of the City of Manchester City are used, as a symbol of pride in representing the city of Manchester at a major event. This practice originates from a time when the players' shirts did not normally bear a badge of any kind, but has continued throughout the history of the club. For the 2011 FA Cup Final, City used the usual badge with a special legend, but the Manchester coat of arms was included as a small monochrome logo in the numbers on the back of players' shirts.

On 15 October 2015, following years of criticism from the fans over the design of the 1997 badge, the club announced that they intended to carry out a fan consultation on whether to disregard the club badge and institute a new design

Expectations

34e5ny8.jpg

The board expects you to win the Premier League Obviously. They're a bit milder with the minimum Champions League expectations, but with the squad you have you should be able to reach the quarter finals at the least. The FA Cup expectations on the other hand are quite rough since you also need to have a bit of luck. Can your team stay injury free? Are the likes of Touré and Silva going to be exhausted, ... If you want to increase your wage budget a bit you should go all in and see where you end up... Let's hope they like you in case things go down the drain.

Facilities

Manchester City in 2016 already has the best training facilities for both your youth teams and your first team. As you can also see, a stadium expansion is planned in 2017 to increase the capacity to 60,000 seats

Finances

Since an FM or two ago you will also start off this season with 0 transfer budget. The only way of getting some transfer budget is by selling players. Personally I have been fiddling around a bit by adjusting the wage budget and trying to ask more wage budget from the board but always without success. Despite a very nice overall balance, don't even try to ask for a transfer budget, not even if you are a manager with an international history. They will blow it off anyway. Your only chance to get around 13 million euros (sorry I'm not from the UK) of transfer budget is by putting the bonusses for the players on low.

On the upside... you have a Sugar Sheikh! Meaning that if you play it smart, and you offload some players before the start of the season for the best possible deals. And you buy some top players with a lot of monthly installments, fees after reaching a certain amount of games etc. without depleting your actual budget too much you can do very good deals. Which also means that at some point in the first or second season you will go into the red numbers. But have no fear, Sheikh Mansour is here! He will just give you some pocket change to make your club financially healthy again.

spx8xk.png

Staff

Personally I usually get rid of 80-90% of the staff at Manchester City. Most of them are just not worthy of having them there. I replace them by the best possible staff that are interested to join... cause, well... you can! Even though it is tougher than in previous FM's to get some of the best ones you can still get top quality coaches, scouts, physio's, ... in. Your wage budget allows it to even turn Directors of Football with good scouting stats into scouts.

The only staff members worth keeping around would be Txiki Begiristain in case you want to work with a Director of Football, and Gary Worthington as a scout (so offer him a new contract, since he ain't the best Chief Scout).

Squad

Goalkeepers

JH.ashx?h=540&mh=540&mw=960&w=960

Joe Hart

Rating : ★★★

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : Very good Handling and Reflexes and decent attributes overall. Your number one pick in the goal for years to come. Only to be replaced by a world class goalkeeper.

Notes : N/A

Willy Caballero

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A very good backup for Joe Hart and at the age of 33 he will still have some good years ahead of him. Selling him is an option, only if you have a good cheap replacement and if you really need the money.

Notes : N/A

Christian Kjetil Haug

Rating : ★★

Home Grown Status : Could become Home Grown

Recommendation : One of your biggest prospects this year at City, although his attributes don't give that away. Send him out on a loan to get some play time and he might kick Joe Hart from the throne after a couple of years.

Notes : N/A

Defenders

Vincent%20Kompany.ashx?h=540&mh=540&mw=960&w=960

Vincent Kompany

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Your rock in the defense, world class defender and a great leader. He has incredible attributes, with only marking that could use a bit more training. At the age of 28 he is at his peak and will serve you well for another 4 or 5 years.

Notes : N/A

Nicolás Otamendi

Rating : ★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Quite similar to Kompany, another great central defender that you can play alongside him. Besides the frustrating yellow/red cards he'll often get there is no reason not to play him. Try to get him to unlearn diving into tackles... if he doesn't eat you after that.

Notes : N/A

Eliaquim Mangala

Rating : ★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Very good physical stats, and very good potential, but that's it. The mediocre tackling and ok heading and marking attributes don't make him a central/limited defender that deserves a first team spot. His mental stats aren't great either. You can give him some play time and try to get his attributes up, but at the age of 24 his clock is ticking. Else... I hear PSG would like to pay big money for him ;).

Notes : N/A

Martín Demichelis

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A very good backup for Otamendi and Kompany. He's not worth selling since he's 34 already and you will get peanuts for him. His concentration is very low so expect some occasional blunders. Better play him as a limited defender in that case.

Notes : N/A

Jason Denayer

Rating : ★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : IRL the next Vincent Kompany. Still has to prove his worth in a good team if you ask me. He has good potential and it's up to you if you will use him to see what he can become.

Notes : Currently on loan at Galatasaray till the end of the season.

Gaël Clichy

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : A full back that will have to fight it out with Kolarov for the spot on the left. He's got good pace and acceleration, ok defending attributes but very low concentration. Technically and mentally he's being overthrown by Kolarov and this is probably the reason why you should use him as a backup. David Alaba would be a very good replacement for him.

Aleksandar Kolarov

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : With his good crossing, corner kick and free kick taking this fella' can be a very valuable asset to the team. Probably your first pick on the left but same as with Clichy, you want to keep an eye out for Ricardo Rodriguez and/or David Alaba to take over since Kolarov ain't getting any younger.

Notes : N/A

Pablo Zabaleta

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : No discussion needed. One of the best full/wing backs out there and a model professional too. He should be one of the first names on your game sheet.

Notes : N/A

Bacary Sagna

Rating : ★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A decent backup for Zabaleta, and can play as a central defender too. With the money you can get for him still you might be able to get a good young replacement instead.

Notes : N/A

Pablo Maffeo

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : Could Become Home Grown

Recommendation : Another prospect from the youth academy to keep an eye on. Send him out on a loan to get some play time.

Notes : N/A

Tosin Adarabioyo

Rating : ★★★

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : A promising center back that you should make available for loan. It feels like he could become important with the right amount of training and first team football.

Notes : N/A

Midfielders

Yaya%20Toure.ashx?h=540&mh=540&mw=960&w=960

Yaya Touré

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Vice-Captain Yaya, is a Legendary Midfielder. You can play him either as a Deep Lying Midfielder or as in real life, a Box-To-Box Midfielder. His free-kick, long shot and penalty skills are a welcomed bonus. Sadly he's already 32 and may be good for another year or 2 before you should replace him with a certain Paul Pogba.

Notes : N/A

Fernandinho

Rating : ★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Can play as a Deep Lying Playmaker alongside Touré. The battle for the spot next to him goes between him and Fernando. He's in a more offensive mould than Fernando. His attributes are good allround but nothing that sticks out. Since he's 30 and over his peak you might want to consider selling him and get a good youngster like Youri Tielemans in.

Fernando

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Can play as a Ball Winning Midfielder or Defensive Midfielder next to Touré.

He has very good mental, and good physical attributes. Another candidate to replace if you found a wonderkid to take his spot.

Notes : N/A

Bruno Zuculini

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A promising midfielder that can serve as a back for Fernando. He has good potential and you can give him some play time to see how much he can develop still or you can sell him if you really need the money from the transfer.

Notes : N/A

Fabian Delph

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : Plays best as a Box-To-Box Midfielder so he would be a good backup for Touré. He's already at full potential and he doesn't have the best technical attributes. You could sell him or since he's home grown you might wanna stick with him for a season.

Notes : Injured for 2-4 months

Notes : N/A

Kevin De Bruyne

Rating : ★★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : IRL he is known cause of his incredible vision and accuracy when passing, crossing and shooting. He's either footed and can play anywhere on midfield. Let's hope he'll do exactly the same as he does IRL for you. So far I haven't found the best role for him yet, so I won't give any advice on that.

Notes : N/A

Raheem Sterling

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : Your first choice right winger. If on a good confidence roll he can easily be your best player on the pitch. Play him on the AMR lay back and watch magic happen.

Notes : N/A

David Silva

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A world class advanced playmaker that has everything to be the best of the best in that position. Can also play on the left or right side of the pitch if needed. Easily your number one pick but he's very injury prone and at a certain age already so I'd recommend looking for someone to follow him up soon.

Notes : N/A

Samir Nasri

Rating : ★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : Samir has very good overall attributes and can play as a winger or inside forward. Since he's either footed he can easily play on either side of the pitch or as an advanced playmaker. He'll have to fight for his spot with talents as De Bruyne and Sterling in your team.

Notes : N/A

Jesús Navas

Rating : ★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : A right winger with good technical attributes pace and acceleration. But it won't be enough to challenge anyone for a first team spot. He can be a decent backup for Sterling, but my suggestion is to sell him and get a fresh youngster instead.

Notes : N/A

Patrick Roberts

Rating : ★★★½

Home Grown Status : Yes

Recommendation : A promising youngster bought from Fulham. Can serve as a right winger or inside forward on the right since he's better with his left foot. Not good enough yet to claim a first team spot but he can get close with some playing time.

Notes : N/A

Brahim Díaz

Rating : ★★★★

Home Grown Status : Could become Home Grown

Recommendation : One of your brightest prospects at City. Can play as a MC or AP. Should be loaned out for first team football.

Notes : N/A

Strikers

Sergio%20Aguero.ashx?h=540&mh=540&mw=960&w=960

Sergio Agüero

Rating : ★★★★½

Home Grown Status : No

Recommendation : One of the best strikers in the world is at your disposal. I yet have to find the best role for him since his attributes suit more the spot of an Advanced Playmaker than those of a striker (hence the finishing). So far he produced best as a Trequartista for me, but it depends as well on how his form is. He's also quite injury prone so find him a good backup.

Notes : N/A

Goncalo Guedes.

Just buy him. The next Cristiano Ronaldo!

I signed him on my Man City save and play him on Right Wing - absolutely unreal. Won Player of the Season every season apart from one (he was injured for 4 months, and still came second), loads of goals, loads of assists, shortlisted for World Player of the Year and won European Golden Boy - and is now only 22 on my save! Real Madrid keep bidding for him, but I don't need the money, his favoured club is now Man City and I am his favoured personnel. So I reckon I've got him for his whole career.

Can't post a screenshot just yet, but I will when I get home tonight. But, just trust me, go buy him! I got him for £32m (release clause if I remember rightly) in January of Season One.

Also glad to see a City thread, first one in years.

I sold Fernando to PSG for 21m in preseason, and used the funds to get in James Ward-Prowse from Southampton for 18m upfront, rising to 30m with add ons.

Only other changes were to bring in lots of backroom staff - City are poor in most aspects and needs considerable investment.

Started well, top after 7 games, won 6 drawn 1. United are amazingly in the relegation zone and the pressure is on Van Gaal.

Patrick Roberts and Brandon Barker have been getting games, like others I've got 5 or 6 youngsters I want to really try and get into the first team squad over the coming 2-3 years.

I'm open to selling Bony, Nasri and Navas if the right offers come in, but not actively looking to sell right now. Come January I might change this approach.

I've just started season 4, and my City team is almost unrecognisable. My squad is:

Hart

Passlack/Clyne - Kompany/Laporte - Otamendi/Korean Regen - Gaya

Pogba/Tielemans - Andre Gomes/Ward-Prowse

Guedes/Slovakian Regen - Odegaard/Renato Sanches - Brandt/Sterling

Morata/Lukaku

My thread stating that every time a team bid for my players the player became unhappy that the bid was rejected forced my hand to sell De Bruyne, Aguero, Toure etc. but the others (Bony, Navas, Nasri, Zabaleta, Clichy, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, Delph) I either received a bid that was too good to say no to - or they got too old. I like having a young squad!

I gave young academy players such as Brandon Barker, Manu Garcia, Kelechi etc. a chance but I was struggling to find the right tactic (not won the Premier League yet, but Champions League win and a few other cups have saved my skin) so couldn't risk playing youngsters too much as needed my best players out on the pitch. They have all moved onto lower Prem/high Championship clubs so shows what standard they actually are - though I do believe Brandon Barker would cut it in the First Team at City given the chance. I still have Oliver Ntcham and have loaned him out every season, and he is now worth £13m so thought I'd keep hold of him this year and give him a few chances to prove himself in the First Team - 1 game = 1 goal & 2 assists so far.

I have problems too getting De Bruyne to perform. As of now he is one of my weaker performers. I have been using him on the left as an inside forward but every chance at a shot he gets he screws up. I play him as a winger now and let him focus on crossing rather than shooting himself. So far its going slightly better.

How are people getting the best out of KDB? I've been playing him behind Aguero in a couple of different roles, but although he's been reasonable, I don't feel like he's excelling or creating / scoring enough.

Have him playing as a IF/A from the left wing in a 4-2-3-1 with AP/S and W/S behind a main forward CF/A.

Crap, I just got sacked in my first season in january. We were 7th! I couldn't get my team on the rails. I decided to not sell anyone in the summer transfers to see where it would lead me but instead I got a team that wasn't conistent at all. I have been playing a 4-2-3-1 Wide attacking tactic mainly and swapped to a defensive version when I was playing out to "better" teams. But without a lot of succes. Aguero was injured for months (which is a world of difference), my left and right backs were never consistent. I could only count on Kompany and Otamendi really. And the rest were just plain sh*t. I got some youngsters in like Zivkovic, Embolo, Barbosa, .... Plus Grimaldo,Tielemans and Odegaard (loans), with the wage budget that I used for transfer money instead. I'm going to start over and get rid of all the ones I didn't like and get Pogba, Alaba, Mario Fernandes, ... instead for a young world class team. I'm bummed :(... I will still updgrade the thread post btw, just stay tuned ;).

I've deleted this save! It was a continuation of a BETA load, and regardless of what I'm told - it felt like there were too many bugs, glitches, and untidiness! Also, I went a bit mad and experimental with signings just to see how much players cost/how much I can get for players. Started a new game, again with Man City, but will take it a lot slower this time and properly build a team rather than just signing who ever comes available (though if the opportunity comes up, I'd sign Pogba & Lukaku again).

No transfer budget in the first season, but got Guedes on loan with a future fee of £23m which I will 100% be activating when the money comes in January or Summer! Sold Zuculini and loaned out Kelechi to Gil Vicente. Tried to loan out Patrick Roberts with a clause of must be a Key Player, and strangely not a single club made a bid! Very odd, but no point loaning him out as cover for the first team - he can stay at City and be cover for the First Team!

Got the scouts out all over the world searching for young players with 5* PA so looking to build a very young, World Class team - as I do every season!

I will update every now and then - maybe twice a week. Though, based on what this weekends weather forecast is suggesting, I doubt I'll be leaving the house so might do a couple of updates this weekend!

Whenever I start a new Man City save I always choose to sell Nasri. The team already has plenty of quality in Attacking Midfield and he fetches a very good price (at least $20m US) and it helps to dump his very large wage. I usually spend that money on home-grown players to backup my attacking 4 (Aguero ST, Sterling LW, Silva AMC, De Bruyne RW) to help with the champions league rules.

George Boyd (Burnley) is a good backup that I usually pickup because he can play any of the AM positions and is Either footed (plus he's home-grown).

If you choose to sell Caballero, a good replacement is Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester). He's a City home-grown player which really helps for Champions League and his attributes are really good to be a backup to Joe Hart.

Bradley Wright-Phillips (New York Red Bulls) is a fantastic backup to Aguero/Bony. He's City home-grown and is available for under $500k US. However, if you don't need him immediately, his contract expires December 2015 so you can easily pick him up for free.

I ended the season winning the league, but knocked out of Champs League in the groups, and early stages of both cups. I've made a decision to keep my team as English as possible - so my summer transfers completed are:

IN

Bale £80m

Micah Richards £15m

Ross Barkley £35m (January)

Harry Kane £40m

Jack Butland £11m

John Stones £40m

Left back from Derby (Can't remember name) £2m

Ainsley Maitland-Niles £15m

OUT

Mangala £14m

Nasri £18m

Sagna £3m

Caballero £500k

Demichelis £Free

Navas is being a ***** so he's in the reserve squad, nobody would even take him on loan

So, I have all the English players I signed above, along with Joe Hart, Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph, Patrick Roberts & the high potential players in my U21 & U18 squad, the future looks English for City! (By the way, I'm aware Bale is Welsh!)

Nice one Marc. May I ask what tactics you are using? I have had so much succes before with a 4-3-2-1 Wide before but I have problems getting them launched in this FM. I sometimes wonder if it's morale, but I have Bruno Conti as my assistant manager and he should be doing a fine job on that. Good job on getting De Bruyne do his thing. I played him there too but without much succes I'm afraid.

Hi. I don't make my own tactics - I prefer to see myself as the man manager! The tactic is downloaded from here: http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/share-download-fm-16-tactics/351824-4-2-3-1-wide-gatling-project-invicible-142-goals-league-%2A%2A-update-%2A%2A.html

I think in the new season I'll be moving KDB to AMC and phasing Silva out, as I like to play with a young squad and Silva is 30 now. I did get a bid for Silva of £30m from Juventus in summer which I accepted, but he turned them down. I'll be playing KDB as an AMC as obviously Bale will be my AML (Winger) and AMR will be Sterling or Guedes.

I've said it before in other forums & thread, but I can't rate Goncalvo Guedes highly enough - absolutely immense! From Benfica, and I got him on loan in Season One with future fee of £23m, which I have obviously done! Retrain him as Striker (Complete Forward) in case of emergencies, and his finishing stats increase, making him the perfect replica of Cristiano Ronaldo. Cutting in from the wing and easily bagging 20+ goals a season along with countless assists.

Nice, lot's of changes at City then! I forgot about Chambers, I believe he is a beast on the game, but run out of money for this transfer window. Might pick him up in a couple of seasons when Zabaleta is too old - Richards signed with a 'Backup' squad status, so he can stay as that behind Zabaleta & then behind Chambers.

Kane didn't have the best record at Spurs in the 2015/16 Season - only scored 9 goals, but hoping with Bale, De Bruyne, Sterling, Silva & Guedes providing the assists he'll score a lot more this season! How's he getting on in your save?

I haven't played for a few days, but will probably have a go tonight or tomorrow, so will see how my new look team fares at the start of the season.

Playing as Tottenham, but I would highly recommend Gaya as a leftback. He is so defensively sound and his crossing stat means he assists a lot of goals. Also I've found playing Kane as a Complete Forward with Support is the best for him.

Yeah I bought Gaya when I played around with the Beta - he is mint. Just trying to keep it English/British. This left back called Easah Suliman I got for £2m is PA 4*, so will be nurturing him and try to get him to reach his max ability.

I'll set Kane up with Complete Forward (Support) when I play the next few days and see how he gets on. Might play Aguero as AMC (Treq/Shadow Striker) sometimes too and see what kind of partnership they can develop!

Trying my best to sing Gaya but valencia want crazy money, even thought i have a transfer kitty off just over 200m at start of season 3 might just see this season out with Kolarov and Creswell, also tried to get Bernat from Bayern but they playing hard ball too

Chambers has been good as a CWB role for me gets plenty assists mainly bought him as backup as can also slot in at centre back if needed, got him for 12m so not a bad price

I paid £63m for him in my fourth season. He has averaged a 7.27 over 51 games getting 15 assists. He has only just got injured, so he is really reliable.

Yeah i think will defo get him at some point Kolarov contract is up this season so might try offload him now and just pay what i have to for Gaya seems to be top 3 left back in game

Kane been doing good for me my tactic i play with a falce 9 role he averages about 15 goals mainly play him backup to Aguero, i also bought Icardi as Aguero got injured for 5 month but he struggle for game time

I've read somewhere on here that Icardi is a goal machine. Maybe give him a run of games, he might just be your best striker without you realising!

Gaya has a minimum release clause of about £30m at the start of the game, but I imagine Valencia give him a new contract as soon as possible.

I can't believe how much you can negotiate teams down though. I bid £40m for Bale, fully expecting them to reject, and they came back asking for £146m, and I got them down to £80m...£66m reduction! Goes to show that you shouldn't just accept the asking price and should always negotiate, unless they have a reasonable minimum fee release clause. Generally, there is no room to negotiate with them!

Yeah i seen the Icardi thread on here might have to give him a good run his return in 1st season for me was good one every other game ratio

i had bid for Bale accepted for 80m with 50m spread over 48 month but he was not intrested in coming to me, probly due to my poor champs league record so far been beaten twice by real in 1st knockout round so far, hopefully better this season

In my first season I got knocked out of Champions League in Group Stage, but won the league by about 10-15 points. It might be more to do with his happiness at Madrid rather than how your City team are doing, as to whether or not he is interested in signing.

On my BETA save (which I've now deleted - I just mess about for a few seasons and see which players end up being good, how much I can sell players for etc.) I bid for both Bale & Pogba in January of Season 3, agreed terms with both but could only afford one. Both fees agreed we £80m, and I went with Pogba. In the summer, end of Season 3, Bale went to Juventus for £20m. Glad I didn't pay £80m for him in January!

Yeah i will have to keep an eye on Bale as madrid seem keen to sell him for decent price

EDIT: I also managed to get Rooney on deadline day for 6m could not resist it and he only went and scored againt man u in the capital cup to knock them out

LB go for Gaya, CB try for Laporte but it's rare for him to have not already been signed in first transfer window.

I'm going to have to have a huge tactical rethink when I have my usual Friday night marathon session! Terrible start to the season, only teams I've beaten are Chelsea & Liverpool strangely, but struggled against the smaller teams and lost my first two Champions League games in what is a fairly easy group. Luckily I won the league last season so my job isn't in danger yet - but I'd be gutted if I did get sacked as I've put together a great squad of players that I know the next manager wouldn't be willing to sell if I tried to sign any of them!

Joe Hart is only 3 star rated? Wow I'd of thought it'd be higher than that.

I'm using the in game quotation given by the Man City coaches at the start of the first season. As the explanation says, he should only be replaced by a world class goalkeeper :).

Same thing with players as Lars or Sven Bender. Awesome stats but low rating, personally I try to look beyond the star rating in game for current ability and look at the attributes instead.

Aye me too now, I used to get blinded by the star ratings, but you're right, attributes in the RIGHT place and form are the things that really matter.

I just finished my first season with city. I ended up first in the premier league with only 75 points, the same amount as Man Utd but i had a better goal difference. It was very exciting in the last couple of matches cause liverpool were 7 points ahead of me but they forgot to finish it off in the last couple of matches. In december i was 9th and about to get sacked... I managed to turn morale around in the group cause despite losing points they had good match ratings. It seemed they didnt like my tactics. I got kicked out of the CL against Barcelona in the 16th final. 7-6 aggregation... Crazy two matches. And i got kicked out of the fa cup in the 1st round. Maybe thats how i won the title cause my team was fresh most of the season. I got Pogba and Alaba in plus some youngsters like Embolo. Tielemans and Ødegaard on loan. In the wintermercato I got Mario Fernandes and Son Heung Min (which is a beast btw as an AMR) and Stones. As soon as I qualified for CL i got 315 million to spend so I got Dybala, Ricardo Rodriguez, Hazard and Courtois coming in July. I got rid of Navas, Fernando, Bony, Clichy and Zucculini at the beginning of the season and Nasri in January. Trying to get rid of Fernandinho, Kolarov and Delph now.

Has anyone tried re-training Yaya Toure into a striker? His offensive attributes are really really good and his poor work rate shouldn't be a liability if he plays up front.

I haven't tried that yet but now you mention it, it's worth a shot.

If you ever want a replacement for Aguero btw, don't look any further. Dybala is your man. It's like a mirror image of him almost and he scores just as easily.

Okay guys i got a question. Ive been battling between playing as United or City. One of the reasons i wanna try as City is i think it could be cool being the biggest team in the world and beat Uniteds premier league records but when im looking at their team what can i really improve? I really have a hard time seeing where i can improve the team compared to United where they got quite alot of bad players this year :)

You will have to find replacements for the left and right back on short notice (Ricardo Rodriguez, David Alaba, Mario Fernandes, Bellerin, ... are top replacements). On top of that, Yaya is past his best and I can't think of anyone better but Pogba to replace him. Aguero could use a good backup and I found Dybala to be a perfect match. David Silva is running out of time too and he's quite injury prone but you will find loads of potential to replace him.

For the rest, you have billions to spill on players if you play it right. In january of season 2 both Ronaldo and Messi were interested to join for me (I only won the PL in first season), so you might wanna save some for some heavy artillery. So if you want to make an all star team City is the place to be... the chairman is more than happy to announce crazy sponsor contracts when the balance is at -200 million or so.

An update of how my save is going. I seem to have found the right tactic and instructions, and now winning almost week in week out. I went on a 40 game unbeaten run in the league, ended by Man Utd of all teams! However, I did win the league by about 20 points, and currently 17 points ahead in mid-February. Got Barcelona in Last 16 of Champs League, but out of both League & FA Cup.

My team is:

Hart/Haug

Passlack/Maffeo - Stones/Humphreys/Kompany - Otamendi/Oxford - Galloway/Taylor (Scottish Regen - aged 19, valued £18m, free transfer from Dundee)

Pogba/Will Hughes - Tielemans/Maitland-Niles

Goncalo Guedes/Sterling - Marcos Guilherme/Barkley - Bale/Neymar

Lukaku/Polish Regen ('The next Robert Lewandowski' - paid £10m, aged 19, valued £22m)/English Regen (Paid £40m from Boro, aged 18, 5 starts = 5 goals and 4 assists)

I did have Depay as he was on the transfer list by Real Madrid for £17m, so I bought him in January and sold him the following January to PSG for £45m. He's good, but already got Neymar & Bale so just sold him while I could.

Finished the league 6 points clear of Arsenal - and beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the final of the Champions League!

I have two wonderkid strikers - the Polish regen and the English regen, and Thierry Ambrose who I sent on loan to Real Betis has come back as second leading scorer in La Liga with 22 goals, and valued at £28m. I think I might take the risk and accept one of the many £40m-£50m bids that are coming in for Lukaku in order to develop the two wonderkids, and Ambrose can be my experienced striker.

Will Hughes has asked to leave as he isn't getting any game time, but he can't expect to if I have Pogba & Tielemans in midfield - so I'll be selling him in summer and have already bought Callum Gribbin from Man Utd for £9m as a replacement back up centre midfielder, the role Hughes used to play!

Other than that, I don't really need any new players. The only area I could look at is Goalkeeper as Joe Hart is down to 2* - but is still doing a decent job. I might make the young lad, Christian Kjetil Haug, my number 1 next season as he is potential 3.5* and was also out on loan in Ligue 1 with Montpellier and was voted 3rd best goalkeeper.

Are the people in this thread and play as City, actual City fans? I am and I find it really difficult to have any drive to be City manager any more :( ... I also find it hard to read when people tear apart the current City team, does anyone have any experience with keeping us similar to how we are now? I'm not saying dont sign anyone, we need replacements for some just like real life, but looking at it, most have about 2-3 actual City players and the rest are bought.

Season ticket holder and my dad took me to my first game when I was 2 in 1989 lol FM used to be great being City, trying to get us to where we wanted to be but now I can't even get past about October lol
