FM16: Manchester United Back in Europe

I'll start a save with Manchester United. But I'm struggling with some decisions, manly in the sentimental department:

-- should I sell Rooney? Homegrown and England best scorer, but bad tutor and huge wage.

-- should I fire Giggs? Legend but awfull assistant.

-- should I sell Carrick? Good tutor but aging and huge wage.

- I sold Rooney for near £30m to Arsenal straight off. Was playing strikerless and Id rather give games to Martial, Wilson, Mata, Memphis and Gribben. He had a bad first season for them but a good second one, so I think hes fairly win/win however you go.

- I removed Giggs and brought in Terry McDermott, then Phelan when he retired.

- With Carrick, depends how you play. He was a good backup for my first season, moved on after that to let others through.

Restarted with ManUtd when the full game came out. Right now I'm in December and playing Arsenal at home for the first time. Finally settled on a three man defence and I'm loving these kind of games: Mata scoring 5 (4 inside 5 minutes) and assisting the other!

8-0 in the champions league? yea you will need an away goal.. had that before where I have won 8-2.. and needed that 1 goal away

i need to get handheld version myself.

Martial scored in the first 10 minutes in the second leg, but we lost 4-1 on the night. We've got Benfica in the quarter final now.

How the hell is everyone getting these kinds of performances out of the team?

I'm struggling to get a goal against the bottom clubs let alone 8 against fecking Barca!

What formation, mentality and team shape are you using mate?

I'm currently playing 4-4-1-1. I don't normally use any instructions at the start of the game (other than opposition ones) Mentality standard, shape flexible

AF-At

AM-Sup

W-At DLP-Su CM-De W-Su

WB-Su CD-De CD-De WB-Su

G-De

I don't seem to get much possession at at all. My players seem too static and the opposition passes round them to form easy chances.

My Striker / AMC are: Rooney, Martial, Embolo, Luan, Mata

Wingers: Sisto, Valencia, Depay, Young

CM: Schneiderlin, Bastian, Herrera, Blind, Gribbin

WB: Shaw, Grimaldo, Darmian, Chambers

CB Smalling, Rojo, Jones, Balanta

GK De Gea, Horn, Romero

I play the DLP usually the Bastian or Blind.

Any help would be much appreciated, im really struggling. Ps: what sites do you guys use for screenshots? Thanks Mezz

Has anyone signed Paul Pogba?

Ive been given a insane transfer budget of £179M to start the third season. I put in a 80M bid and they asked for £120M i told them to jog on. But im interested to hear if anyone has signed him and how much they paid.

Sign him, mate. Simple as that. Continually bosses the midfield as an Advanced Playmaker on attack duty. His average rating so far this season (I'm in March 2017) is 7.98 - the highest in my squad. I paid £80m for him.

This is possibly my most impressive FM win ever considering the standard of opposition

Hey guys,

Just a quick question. Who do you guys captain after selling Rooney?

My current captain is Rooney and vice is Jones. Thought of promoting Jones to captain but who to vice?

Thanks.

I sold Rooney at the start and replaced him with Zlatan who i gave the captains arm band too, had Basti as my vice captain.

I dont want to sign him, Ive got Herrera and Ward-Prowse doing well and Im trying to be fairly cheap on signings. But he is so, so tempting.

I find Europe to be such a struggle. Top of the league and plenty of goals in the league, but in the CL Ive finished second in my group both times and with lots of draws. Not helped with my defence being long term and not peak yet (Shaw, Jones and Andreas Christensen all have a star or two more potential than current).

I got knocked out of the CL in the group stage, pushed into 3rd place, overtaken by Lazio beating me in the final game with an 89th minute winner. Dropped into the EL now, going to give it a proper go and try to win it though. In the early part of the season I was testing out tactics, tweaking etc, and my early season form suffered, I'm flying now though, lost 1 game in the 15-20, won the League Cup and top of the Prem.

I paid £85m for him in January of Season 2 as Yaya was being a mard arse and wanting to go to Barcelona! He didn't do very much from January - May, but in his first full season he was a beast! So much so that he demanded a new contract, I refused, the rest of the squad kicked off, so I caved and he's now on a 5-year £375,000p/w contract...but I was rushing to do it and didnt notice the £64m minimum release clause the agent put in the contract! Bit worried now haha!

Jesus Christ! You better hope Real or Barca don't come sniffing. Have you tried offering him another contract minus the release clause?

Well that's what I'm thinking I might do maybe in January or something - hopefully his wage demands would stop him agreeing a contract with anybody else even if they did come in for him. He only signed the contract just before I went to bed last night so not had chance to do anything else on it yet.

In my beta save I signed him day 1 with a 75 Million Bid but with some better clauses you could get him for less. (I did 30 up front + 30 over 48 months +7.5 for 10 Int Apps + 7.5 for 50 League Apps)

Boss player with AP-A duty and I even use him as a CF-A for fun because I loaned out Wilson and Rooney has injury issues. He has all the attributes to play anywhere across mid and up top. Now starting full save I'm contemplating using him and Herrera as Inside Forwards just to try

Second season has been completed. Started out by beating European champions, Juventus, in the Super Cup, but ended by being beaten in the Champions League final by Juventus, which sees them winning it for the second year running. Paulo Dybala ALWAYS rinses my back four.

We won the league at a canter, and added the FA Cup with a drubbing of Arsenal. Just so disappointed about the Champions League final.

Transfer work is already under way. I've around £168m to spend, but there isn't much to be improved on. Lincoln was signed in January and has spent the rest of the season at Gremio, so he'll come in to the squad. Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj will leave the club this summer. Patrice Evra has retired and immediately accepted my offer for him to become a coach at the club.

There are a number of regens who I have secured, as well as Gianluigi Donnarumma, who will be arriving from Real Madrid for £12.75m. He's not even in their first team squad, instead playing for their U19's, so he'll become the new back up GK, with Milinkovic Savic going out on loan for the duration of next season.

So glad I'm not the only one to get rid of Rooney ASAP, managed to get £31 million out of Arsenal in the end, Chelsea offered 20m but wouldn't go over 28m there was no way I was selling for less than he is worth. For that I managed to pick up a couple of teenagers Barbosa and Maia for combined 23m, hopefully they will be come the core of my team along with the young players who are already there.

Also picked up Gimenez for his buy out clause (more than I wanted to pay but he hopefully make it worth it), Adriano a bargain for 2 million, and Selke from RBL in Germany (I have yet to decide whether to play him up front or see if I can turn him into an attacking midfielder).

Shaw is already proving to be an excellent WB whilst Valencia is actually keeping Darmian out of the team as the RWB due to his performances.

On my save Rooney was transfer listed half way through season 2, and sold to Southampton for about £3m (yes, three). I put a cheeky bid in but they wanted £23m from me, presumably because I'm Man City!

He's not worth buying after the first season if you are a top club as he is on a rapid decline, Southampton have saved you money ;)

In the midst of season two myself and Arsenal have just transfer listed Jack Wilshere for 8.5m. Would want to get him, but atm i have Schweini and Lewis Cook for the DLP spot and Schneiderlin and a few decent youngsters for the more defensive CM role. What do you guys think i should do?

Be careful with Schneiderlin as your most defensive CM as he has "Gets forward whenever possible" ppm.

As promised Axe here if my formation:

I don't have any PI's set at the moment but to give you an idea of what i'm trying to do, I'm trying to get the Striker to be the main goal getter with the IF as the secondary threat, with the AMC, Winger and WB on the left as the main alleys of supply and then the CMs as another late runner into the box.

Hi mate, you don't have any specialist roles so I would change to fluid. For me 10 TI's would be far to many.

As a base just start simple with play out of defence,On a standard mentality using the offside trap seems a little pointless.

Be careful with your 2 man midfield, you (in my opinion) need to holding mids.I have Lars Bender as CM(d)with Besic from Everton as back-up.Both aggressive and strong in the tackle.Alongside them as DLP(s) is BFS and Verrati with PI's close down less and tackle harder.I want these two guys to win the midfield battle. As I said in the post above be careful of Schneiderlin as he will leave his position and move forward.

Is Kane isolated up front during games?I imagine because of his lack of pace you have given him a really attacking role but I think you should scroll him down to CF (s),he has good acceleration so will still find a yard on most defenders while also connecting with the 3 behind him,i would also change Gotze to an Adv Pm he will drift inside the full back and feed balls in to Kane and Memphis.

be careful his injury proneness is sky high great player at that price but as IRL cant be relied on

Cheers for the advice Axe, i've tried it out and we appear alot better at the back but would you keep the 4 attacking players all on support? i only ask because following your advie i had a CFs, IFs, APs and a Ws and my only attacking player is my FBa

In all honesty whoever i play up front ends up getting isolated, whether its Rooney/Kane or the fast Martial/Barbosa.

Another question, i find that in almost every game i have to change to Counter at some point to actually try and get some decent shots in and i almost never end up dominating a game no matter who its against. I just played a match against newport county in the FA cup and they had more possession and more shots than me, plus they won 1-0

Man I'm struggling for any consistency this year. Tried a couple of different saves experimenting with all sorts of tactics. I REALLY want to get a 4231 to work, has anyone been able to accomplish that?

Took me a while to get the 2 midfielders sorted, but ended up with DM (Ball Winning Midfielder - Support) and a MC (Deep Lying Playmaker - Defend). Seems to give a good balance.

yea counter attacking against seems to be crossfield balls constantly so your defenders are not there.

D663A8D59579CF5477A189B6F93A95D319FF46FD

should, and could have been 6 or 7.. Martial missed a 1 on 1 (as per FM...) and Memphis missed a 4th chance at the far post.. where he scored the other 3 goals

was disappointed.... didn't get a penalty, had 4 in total from the past 3 previous games.

was 4-2-3-1 wide areas were a big threat.. as you can see by the bookings all of their L/R backs got booked
